the snow. let's get right to meteorologist bill henley with your forecast. >> this is here and this is what it looks like. thiu is the view from center city looking toward the comcast center. very light snow. a big light sunshines on these flake which is illuminates them nicely to show you just how light it is. the temperatures are cold enough. as that snow comes down, we could see freezing which could lead to slipping and sliding this morning, something to be concerned about. it's a large system way to the south. that's where warmer air is and some of it may reach into delaware and south jersey. but most of this storm is staying farther to the south. at this hour, we have light snow, very light snow in the pennsylvania suburbs. it's coming down steadier in delaware and south jersey. one band moves through central kent county that stretches across delaware bay into southern cumber learn county. maurice river, you're starting to see that. and upper cape may county, seeing some of that light snow. not much accumulation expected

but be on the lookout for slippery spots this morning. the temperatures dropped into the 20s north and west. this is where the precipitation is even lighter. 30 degrees in wilmington and millville. that's cold enough we could see slippery conditions there. same story for atlantic city, cape may is a degree above freezing. a lot of that snow, very light snow, is ming as it comes down. not a snowy view, center city, 8th and market this morning. we'll see light snow at 6:00 this morning. the showers start tapering off by 9:00 and then they're out of here at noontime. still see clouds. look at the temperatures, 37 degrees. we'll likely warm into the low 40s. what hits the ground and sticks this morning will be melting through the day. the futurecast when i'm back in ten minutes. jessica boyington is watching out for some of the slippery spots on the roads. >> definitely watching out for slippery spots. we may have found some in hamilton township, 295, sloan

avenue. there's definitely snow flakes falling. you can see it accumulating a little bit on to the roadways no problems or delays because of that. maybe a delay because you want to give yourself extra time before you head out the door. 95 around cottman avenue, no problems here. southbound from woodhaven road to the vine street expressway, those roadways could look a little damp. the area bridges, no backups to far. the commodore barry down to 35 miles per hour. no problems heading into philadelphia on the walt. katy? >> jessica, thank you. this was the scene just a short time ago in collingswood, camden county. the cars coated but the woods are just wet. drew smith live in south philadelphia. drew, we saw in center city, flakes were falling. what's it like in south philly? >> we had a crew coveringç a

story on washington avenue late last night around 11:00 and there was this light snow falling. you can see it right now, live at 4:00 a.m., still coming down as you see in the light up there. all we have to show for it is a little accumulation on top of cars down here. the second it hits the street it is melting. you take a look at the row of cars when you come out andtry to take off for work this morning you'll find that snow on your car but it is so light that it blows right off. you're not going to need heavy duty equipment to brush it off this morning. the concern is the slippery roads. the roads are still wet. the bridges freeze first. when i was driving in to work this morning, i came over the walt whitman bridge and i saw snow on the road. be careful. we'll keep an eye on it throughout the morning forecast. live in philadelphia, drew smith, nbc 10 news. light snow continues to fall across our area a live look from

stormforce 10. they are driving on 422, oakmont county. wet roadways. something to keep in mind. bill and jessica will be back in just minutes. track the snow on your phone or tablet. get the nbc 10 app. it's a free download. new information on a murder that happened inside a south philadelphia restaurant. overnight, homicide detectives interviewed workers from that business and customers who were there when the killing happened. we first brought you this story last night as breaking news. police say a woman who worked at the vietnamese restaurant you see there on washington avenue was killed. according to detectives, someone slashed her throat during a violent struggle and they believe it happened in the kitchen while customers and other workers were in the restaurant upstairs. right now, police are looking for a suspect and a murder

weapon. we are following these overnight developments and we'll have a live report for you coming up in just about 25 minutes. happening today in atlantic city, the community will come together to mark the anniversary of a police officer who was killed directing traffic. officer thomas mcmeekin died 11 years ago today. family,en froms and colleagues will gather at st. nicholas colintine church to pay tribute to him. he was hit by a bus while directing traffic at an accident scene. we're learning more about the five co-workers who died in a fiery crash near the border of berks and lehigh countys. the crash happened late wednesday on route 222 at the route 100 splitç at upper macungie township. they all worked at qpsi. most of them were leaders. their subaru veered into

oncoming traffic, collided with a tractor-trailer head on and went up in flames. the driver of the tractor-trailer did survive. the five victims were pronounced dead at the scene. >> a lot of people that work here actually witnessed the accident itself because everybody was on their way home. >> how have you been able to deal with it? >> just lean on each other. >> the victims co-workers say they did not normally car pool together. they leave behind spouses and children. you can go to the nbc 10 app or nbc10.com for information about a go fund me account set up on their behalf. the philadelphia police force is growing in size with more than a dozen new recruits joining today. philadelphia mayor jim kenney will join police commissioner richard ross for the graduation of 15 new recruits who just completed eight months of training. you're looking at a previous ceremony there. today's graduation happens at the fraternal order of police lodge 5 in northeast philadelphia.

nbc 10 was on hand last night as radnor township opened its citizen police academy. a free program for people living there and people can take a series of classes in field exercises designed to give them working knowledge of the township's police department. happening this weekend, a taste of spring after the snow, right? thanks to the philadelphia flower show. the show opens tomorrow at the pennsylvania convention center. it runs through sunday, march 13th. doors open at 11:00 tomorrow morning. 8:00 a.m. on sunday and 10:00 during the week. you won't want to miss that. now your nbc 10 first alert weather meteorologist bill henley. >> tracking some very light snow in the area this morning. that won't last very long. it will be here to begin with but this light snow will be out of here this afternoon. the steadiest snow this morning is in delaware and south jersey. you'll see that on the first alert radar. slippery roads, the temperatures have just gone below freezing for much of the area.

much of it is melting as it hits the ground. be on the lookout, there are colder pockets. you can run into slippier conditions. warmer temperatures offer the weekend. the big warmup we save for next week. 29 degrees in allentown, just below freezing. cloudy skies and precipitation has tapered off. it was never heavy. northeast philadelphia, 31 grows. minimal accumulation, you saw drew's report from center city where it was getting the cars. you might see sidewalks and grassy surfaces covered, otherwise not much coming from this large storm system. covering up most of the east coast but theç very light snows melting as it hits the ground, north and west in those colder areas. philadelphia barely coming down right now. here's where the steadier, light snow is falling in new castle county, kent county and delaware. cumberland county and into portions of cape may county.

cape may is above freezing. even though the snow flakes are falling lightly, it is melting as it comes down. look how quickly it moves out of here. futurecast showing at 7:00 in the morning, scattered light snow showers in the philadelphia area. the temperature just below freezing, just cold enough to support some icing. if it hasn't been treated, you could run into some problems there. at the shore, light snow. but look at those temperatures, 35 degrees in atlantic city. 34 in cape may and slushy, at best, most likely melting as it hits the ground. we go into the later morning hours, that snow hangs in there at noontime. a light snow possible in atlantic city. breaks of sunshine north and west. and then that snow moves out completely in the afternoon. we'll see some sunshine and clearing skies for today. so rally not bad north and west. light snow tapering off already. low 40s for fleetwood and morgantown. pennsburg 39. upper 30s for abington and

norristown. light snow more likely to accumulate, about an inch, in portions of delaware and south jersey. it's not going to last into the afternoon. seven-day forecast when i'm back in ten minutes. katy? >> let's get a check of the roads. driving in, you know this, the wet roads are something to take into consideration. can't go too fast. >> the wet roads are definitely something to take into consideration, especially the major on and off ramps. for right now, we're okay. 295, this is out in west deptford around route 130. no problems in either direction so far. snow actually gathers into the shoulder, not really sticking to the center lanes where the cars are moving through. we have a southbound brave time from the 42 freeway to the delaware memorial bridge and that is a 22-minute trip. average speeds way up there into the 60s. new jersey, watch for construction on route 70 westbound between 295 and west

nominee. trump said if he denies the nomination and one of the other wins, he would support him. bill clinton was out stumping for his wife in louisiana last night. he pushed hillary clinton's plans to make college more affordable and lower the u.s. prison population. clinton's democratic competition, bernie sanders hosted a rally in kansas last night. the arena at a county fairgrounds was jam packed, sanders said a few thousand more people were outside trying to get in. the candidate's caucus is tomorrow. also tomorrow, kentucky and maine hold their republican caucuses. nebraska has a democratic caucus and both parties battle it out in the louisiana primary. i'm vai sikahema, nbc 10 news. katy? two heavyweights fought for the future of the republican party. the 2012 republican nominee, mitt romney and donald trump. romney said if trump wins the gop nomination, it would guarantee a victory for hillary clinton.

arguments are expected in the erin andrews case. the former espn reporter is suing a man who secretly took nude videos of her at a nashville marriott hotel in 2008. she's also suing the management and owner of that hotel and she's seeking $75 million in the case. from our delaware bureau now, don't feed the birds, at least not in wilmington. city council voted to approve a ban on feeding most birds and other wild animals. this comes after someone left loaves of bread for birds in cool springs park. >> when you look at the pictures of loaves of bread everywhere and it adds to more problems besides the bird. you can have the rodents and everything else. >> those who supported the ban say the bird feeding is causing a problem because too many seagulls and other birds are now in the park. they say bird droppings could lead to health issues for residents as well. now your nbc 10 first alert weather with meteorologist bill henley.

>> coming up on 20 minutes after 4:00. we are tracking light snow in the area, it's dampened the roads. temperatures are borderline. look out for slippier spots. most of it is melting as it comes down. you'll see accumulation on cars that have been sitting out overnight on sidewalks and on the grass as well. it tends to run colder. 31 degrees now at philadelphia international. it's not as cold as it was yesterday morning. that was expected. here's a view. doesn't look very snowy. it's not windy either. it won't be stormy. this storm is missing us to the south. we get a glancing blow from it. the farther away from the coast you are, the less precipitation you'll see. this is where it's colder, allentown, pottstown, reading, light snowfall in parts of south jersey. one of the easy ways to see how heavy the snow is coming down is to look at the visibilities. they look just fine for coatesville, pottstown, three-mile visibility. has to get below one mile to see

a steadier snow. very light snow in mount holly, under two-mile visibility at wildwood and dover is at 2 1/2 mile visibility. no one is really reporting any looks impressive on the radar, this is a snow across central delaware and southern delaware, it's a little bit heavier. temperatures above freezing this morning in cape may. the farther north and west you do, the lighter the snow yet. more of a nuisance more than anything. this is all going to be heading out this afternoon. we'll end the day with breaks of sunshine. might see a little bit this morning. light snow at 6:00. by 9:00, starting to taper off. by lunch time, clouds around with winds out of the northeast at 14 miles an hour. we get that sunshine breaking through in the afternoon. 40s, what comes down this morning, melts this afternoon. there's a slight chance of an early shower on send. sunday afternoon we'll see the sunshine once again. no big warmup over the weekend. but that's not the case next

week. the temperatures take off, starting on monday. near 60 degrees. and then even warmer come wednesday, 71 degrees, the high temperature. there is a chance we'll see some rain on thursday but it will still be mild, up to 66 degrees. >> look at that temp on wednesday. >> not bad. >> not bad at all. unseasonably warm. >> that makes a brief last breath of winter that we're dealing with this week seem like no big deal. >> do you think it's the last breath of winter? >> it's a little early to tell. you can still have winter storms even into april. >> i remember that. it typically happens. maybe not out of the woods yet. >> not quite. >> speaking of the light snow falling across the roads, let's check in with first alert traffic reporter jessica boyington. you have a look along 295, is that right? >> we're through center city. we did look through 295 a few moments ago and we had snow falling on the roadways, starting to stick on the shoulders. it pretty much looks the same on the vine street expressway. this is around 24th street.

we do have snow starting to accumulate over into the shoulders. but the actual roadways, where everybody is driving on is looking like a slippery and wet drive. again, this is westbound right in here, headed to the schuylkill expressway or eastbound heading to 95. no problems getting in either direction there. once you get there, you'll be okay. the streetlights, you can see the snow falling there. could be a problem later on in the morning. watch out for some construction, though, also in philadelphia on 34th street. that's closed between walnut street and spruce street. katy? 4:23 and 30 degrees in philadelphia. back to the bargaining table today for new jersey transit and its rail unions. the threat of a rail strike is very real. ahead in our next half hour, we'll share mass transit options for you if workers walk off the job. and also coming up next, cheese steak lawsuit. hear why family members of one of philadelphia and most popular sandwich shops are fighting it out in court.
