nbc 10 news starts now. and we are still tracking snow. yes, some is falling at the jersey shore right now. take a look at the conditions along the garden state parkway in upper township, cape may county. you can see there was some slush on the roadway there is and snow covering trees and grass. well, the snow is covering grassy surfaces, but there's even some you can spot along beach avenue as we take a live look from our cape may camera. and in delaware county penndot trucks are making sure the roads are safe for drivers. we found this truck spreading salt in chester while the snow was still falling earlier this morning. there's no more accumulating snow in philadelphia, and the roads are pretty clear as we

take a live look along i-95 near the girard point bridge. that's good news for people in that area. we have live team coverage of today's snowfall. let's begin with nbc 10 first alert meteorologist bill henley. hi, bill. >> hey, katy. temperatures have been climbing very slowly, conditions improving. still plenty of clouds but you can see that the snow has stopped in philadelphia. and we will see that temperature at 34 degrees increase. the wind is starting to pick up, now the winds up to 18 miles an hour this afternoon they're already there. radar shows snow now in new jersey, but it's really ending in a hurry in delaware too, just sussex county right along the coast is seeing a little bit of very light snow. then it's the shore from cape may to atlantic city. this is now light snow. this is where we've seen some of the heaviest snow during the day today on those grassy surfaces as you mentioned up to five inches of snow has been reported. most of the area saw less than that and certainly less on the roadways. looking a bit more impressive and still a steady snowfall scattered around burlington

county and into ocean county. it's going to take some time, but this is going to be moving out to sea later this morning and early this afternoon. this is 1:00 this afternoon. it will be over in cape may and lewis at that hour, but we could still see some very light snowfall in atlantic city and toms river, finally moving out during the afternoon hours. then we'll get some breaks of sunshine. so the temperatures will be climbing in spite of the bit of snow that fell first thing this morning. so clouds to start with. we'll be at 39 degrees at 1:00 this afternoon. a little bit of sunshine breaking through. we're already seeing it in the pocono mountains, 4:00, 40 degrees, then we cool down this evening at 7:00 39 degrees. this, this, may not be our only chance of snow before we get to the warmer weather that's headed our way next week. take a look at the weekend forecast when i come back in a few minutes, katy. >> oh, bill, really? our live team coverage continues now with nbc 10 jersey shore bureau reporter ted greenberg live in ocean city, cape may county. ted, the snow is still with you.

it's been with you all morning since 5:00 a.m. >> reporter: even before that, katy. i mean, we've been out since 3:30 this morning, and it is still coming down up here on the boardwalk in ocean city. at least a couple of inches on the boards. we saw more than that, three, four inches down in cape may earlier this morning. and it was still coming down for some folks here at the shore the morning commute was difficult and dangerous. outside the original fudge kitchen in cape may, a late-season taste of winter kept paul busy this morning. >> i'd say we got a good three inches so far and it's still snowing hard. >> reporter: on the garden state parkway, which became snow covered and slick in spots, a reduced speed limit and numerous accidents. >> people not paying attention and sliding. >> reporter: this pickup ended up at the bottom of an embankment in middle township. tow truck operators told us no one was hurt. >> see up here where the dents are? that's where he went off over

>> ted, thank you. time now for a check on the roads with nbc 10 first alert traffic reporter jessica boyington. what are you seeing out in your cameras, jess? >> well, katy, we are improving a lot since earlier this morning. no real delays or backups. here's the schuylkill expressway around the vine street expressway almost in the heart of center city eastbound from the blue route to the vine street expressway still a 14-minute trip. headed westbound they are just doing the same eastbound lanes here doing great as well. now moving over into montgomery county on cowpath road an accident reported about 20 minutes ago. some snowflakes still falling in winslow, new jersey. this is route 73 around 561. but really the main portion of snow that we've seen accumulating all morning is into the center medians and the grassy areas. so not really something that's been too much of a hazard for the morning commute, just some slippery spots. the tacony-palmyra still opening, but speed restrictions

on the bridges. katy. >> jessica, thank you so much. and you can track the snow right on your smartphone or tablet with the nbc 10 app. it gives you radar, weather alerts and you can customize the forecast for your neighborhood. it is a free download. and we're following some breaking news involving alleged hazing at a chester county high school. the district attorney just announced some disturbing charges against students at conestoga high school. prosecutors allege members of the football team there assaulted a teammate. the district attorney says last october three upper classmen held down a younger player and sodomized him with a broom stick. says the coaching staff allowed this to happen without enough supervision. >> a simple case about ignorance, violence and a shocking lack of supervision. >> the d.a. says that member of the team would also order fellow players to strip down to their underwear. we are continuing to gather details on the story and we'll bring you a live report in our next half hour.

well, employees at a south philadelphia restaurant are trying to make sense of a murder that took place in their restaurant kitchen while customers ate nearby. right now police are trying to figure out who slashed a woman's throat at lee's cafe and bistro. nbc 10's drew smith explains what happened and how neighbors in that area are reacting. >> reporter: the restaurant was open at the time, customers and servers on the first and second floor. but it was down in the basement where they would later find their cook, her throat slashed and the kitchen a mess. >> it appears there was a very violent struggle. >> reporter: a 54-year-old woman put up a fight before someone ended her life. >> there's a lot of blood next to her body. there is some overturned kitchen equipment. >> reporter: the person responsible got away before staff realized what had happened. they spent the night speaking to homicide detectives who also plan to review nearby surveillance today. neighboring business owners say

this restaurant is fairly new. it just opened last year. >> shocked. very shocked. you know, they were working hard all day. the night last night so shocked. >> reporter: they say the neighborhood has been improving and it's puzzling how something like this could happen. >> my shop is right there, so i got to now. >> reporter: police released the name of the cook late this morning, they did not release a motive for the killing. drew smith, nbc 10 news. investigators are trying to figure out what caused the fire that killed an elderly woman at this home in burlington county this morning. the fire began around 1:45 on francis street in wrightstown. firefighters had it under control in just about a half-hour's time. new jersey state police have not released the woman's identity. happening today, the philadelphia police department is holding its first ever police and community day. every district in the city has events planned today to let the public get together with

officers. some events include coffee with a cop and movies and pizza with the police. happening now in atlantic city, the community is gathering to mark the anniversary of a police officer who was killed directing traffic. officer thomas mcmeekin died in the line of duty 11 years ago today. family, friends and colleagues are gathering right now at st. nicholas to pay tribute to him. he died on march 4th, 2009, after being hit by a bus while at an accident scene. and it was just another night for the republicans, seems that way now. >> voters have a right to know -- >> no, you're the liar. you're the lying guy up here. you're the one. you're the one. >> well, name-calling, accusations and insults, you heard just some of them there. the gop debate had it all last night. and we'll tell you about the attacks against donald trump and the responses so far this morning. plus, more from mitt. the former republican

welcome back. it is 11:12. turning now to decision 2016. and a new surprise in the republican presidential campaign. at last night's debate ted cruz, marco rubio and john kasich all said they'll support donald trump if he wins the nomination. and trump said he would support one of his rivals if they came out on top. this morning the dust is settling after the battle in detroit. rubio, cruz and kasich worked hard to keep trump on his heels. they sparred over immigration policies and over who is best positioned to win the nomination. >> our campaign is the only campaign that over and over again has beaten donald trump to date and it's why we're the one campaign that going forward can and will beat donald trump. >> just for the record, i've won ten, he's won three or four. >> we're talking about polls, i beat hillary clinton by more than anybody by 11 points. >> there was debate about other issues including health care and foreign policy, but there was so much bickering that moderators

do in the wake of this storm system that has stayed offshore but had an impact in our area. we could see some more snow showers early on sunday. i'm not expecting much out of that one. and out of here next week. and moving in much warmer temperatures. into the 70s next week. but not all week. 33 degrees right now. we're seeing some sunshine in allentown, northeast philadelphia producing a few more flakes lightened up at the shore, this is view from cape may marina. clouds are overhead. it was really coming down, now it's very light snowfall in the cape may area. here you can see ocean city, sea isle city, light snow is a little steadier in atlantic city northward into ocean county. and some spots remain in central burlington county where there's light accumulating snow. but it's quickly ending in philadelphia. it's done in delaware. salem and cumberland counties -- well, eastern cumberland county

could see last few snowflakes but not much more expected. futurecast shows at noontime almost all of it will be offshore. might still see a few snowflakes around shipbottom, a couple raindrops possible in atlantic city and cape may as the temperatures will be climbing. it finally pulls out to sea. we'll see clearing skies as we go through the day today. and getting colder tonight by 10:00 tonight we'll be close to freezing. so if it hasn't dried up by 10:00 tonight it will likely be frozen. then the attention turns to that. that is first thing saturday morning. doesn't look very impressive, and it really won't be but as it moves towards us we'll see clouds increasing during the day on saturday after some morning sunshine. and this could give us a quick shot of snow in parts of the area early sunday morning. you can see the snow showers by 6:00 in the morning they're tapering off and that's rain farther to the south. and then it's out of here by 8:00 in the morning. so you might wake up to a light dusting of snow first thing on

sunday morning, especially in southeastern pennsylvania and into northern delaware, new castle county and possibly into new jersey. but it doesn't look very impressive. and by late in the day on sunday we'll see thinning of the clouds, get some sunshine and see temperatures climb. so what falls supd morning will disappear in the afternoon. today, clouds, sunshine, complete with 40 degrees this afternoon. camelback 38 degrees, already seeing some sunshine and 38 in pennsburg. clouds will slowly thin out in new hope, abington and norristown. at the shore still some snow, but it won't last much into the afternoon for ventnor city, already done in cape may, millville 38 this afternoon. and upper 30s to near 40 for wilmington. we'll see lots of clouds into the afternoon, but some breaks of sunshine are possible. tomorrow we'll start with the sun and then get clouds late in the day leading to that quick snow or rain shower first thing on sunday. sunshine is back sunday afternoon. and then check out monday 60

area, but it is still coming down at the shore. here's a live look outside now from our camera in cape may. and now in center city this morning people used hats, hoods and umbrellas as you can see to keep the snow away. and it's a good idea to keep the snow boots handy, at least for a little longer just as this mom and her child did near 15th and jfk this morning. to stay safe as they walked along the wet sidewalks. they were also bundled up as well. philadelphia national airport tweeted there are still delays there even though the snow has stopped. so make sure you check on the status of your flight if you're headed out today. and we have live team coverage as we continue to track the snow falling in parts of our area. let's get right to meteorologist bill henley. hi, bill. >> hey, katy. it's a quick event and it's coming to an end in philadelphia. clouds are starting to thin out. 34 degrees in northeast philadelphia. they're still reporting a few snowflakes, but look at the radar screen and the snow has completely cleared pennsylvania.

now it's burlington county that's seeing snow in central and southern burlington county, pemerton, tabernacle, winslow township in camden county seeing a little snow, it's quickly going to be coming to an end, even at the shore. and you can see some brightening of the skies over center city. so we'll get some sunshine, not a lot of sunshine, but enough to warm temperatures up. and we're already seeing warming in spite of the cloudy skies. we'll be at 36 degrees at 1:00. see a lot of what fell first thing this morning and melt at 4:00 today. and by 7:00 the temperatures start to come back down. and we will be below freezing tonight. so if it doesn't completely dry up, and that's the case for much of delaware and south jersey where heavier amounts came down, we are going to see it refreeze overnight tonight. we'll take a look at those amounts, exactly how much everybody got when i come back in just a few minutes. katy. >> bill, we'll see you then. for our live team coverage continues now with nbc 10 jersey shore bureau reporter ted

greenberg who is in ocean city. ted, it looks from what i can see as the snow is not coming down as hard as it was a half hour ago, but correct me if i'm wrong. >> reporter: you are absolutely correct, katy. the snow has gotten a little bit lighter. you saw about half an hour ago at 11:00 it was still coming down hard. much harder than that earlier this morning. but now we have very light snow coming down. but take a look at what has fallen. already about a couple of inches or so here along the ocean city boardwalk. you can see the boards for the most part looking very white right now. and some roads have also been snow covered and then slick with snow and slush. take a look at the scene that we found on the garden state parkway a couple of hours ago. this was in middle township, cape may county, where a pickup truck slid off the parkway and ended up at the bottom of an embankment. tow truck crews who we talked with this morning they were very busy working on this accident and several others.

the district attorney just wrapped up a news conference less than 30 minutes ago after announcing charges against two members of the football team. nbc 10's deanna durante is live for us in west chester where the prosecutor laid out disturbing details about this alleged hazing. >> reporter: it is disturbing for many in the room here just the reaction from reporters as the district attorney tom hogan was talking about what happened here. now, he does say that in his mind this is the case of hazing that had been going on at conestoga high school. he says the investigation goes back three to four years, however he says pennsylvania law does not allow him to charge high school students with hazing. but this is how the case came to the attention of investigators at the police department and the district attorney's office. they say it was about a month ago a father contacted them saying that his son had been assaulted inside a locker room. the district attorney says that that child, a member of the football team, was assaulted by other football players with a

broomstick. they say that that assault was the result of what they believe was hazing in this case. they say thatents had a practice of exposing themselves to students, making students in that locker room strip down into their underwear to clean the locker room. and he says that many students knew about a practice that was commonly referred to throughout the school as no gay thursday. and he says that those students knew about it, they didn't talk about it to anyone. >> all this happened under the noses of the coaching staff because they were not there to supervise these students. and let this happen by not paying attention. >> reporter: now, the district attorney says that many students that were aware of the practices going on inside that locker room would either avoid the locker room or quit sports altogether. he said while it was primarily football players that were involved in this practice, he

says that there were other athletes that were either exposed to it or involved as well. he says right now charges against three students at conestoga high school, three members of that football team for one incident that happened to a younger student inside the locker room back in october. we are heading to the school. we will be getting reaction. we have reached out to the school district, the athletic director, the principal of conestoga high school all asking for comment about what was announced here today. so far i've not gotten an e-mail or callback from any of the individuals i've reached out to, but we are going to continue to ask the school what if anything they'll be doing in the wake of this investigation and the comments you just heard from the district attorney. for now we are live in west chester, deanna durante, nbc 10 news. >> deanna, thank you. we'll see you at 4:00 on that. happening now closing arguments are underway in a lawsuit brought by sports reporter erin andrews against her stalker and the hotel where he took video of her while she undressed. this is a live look from the

courtroom in nashville. a jury will decide today if the sportscaster and co-host of "dancing with the stars" should be paid $75 million in damages. nbc's morgan radford tells us more about this civil case. >> reporter: the jury could get this case as early as today in which case they have to decide whether, a, the hotel shares the blame for that secretly recorded stalker video, b, whether erin andrews has in fact suffered, and, c, whether that suffering was worth a potential $75 million. today, the last chance for erin andrews' legal team to convince a jury that her stalker video left her emotionally damaged. >> erin andrews has suffered and continues to suffer -- >> reporter: the defense argues even if that's the case it hasn't hurt her career. >> would you agree with me that her career is now thriving? >> yes. >> reporter: that's why the defense says the hotel shouldn't have to pay. >> emotional stress without physical injury cannot stake a claim. >> reporter: especially they

argue says the front desk clerk who checked in andrews's stalker says she didn't give him the room number. >> i did not give that information out. >> reporter: but andrews' lawyer says the hotel did give out her number allowing barrett to shoot the video. she has said repeatedly over the last two weeks she will never get over. >> i think about it every day. >> reporter: the jury is given guidelines on how to assess emotional damage, but there's no fixed amount that they have to award. and they don't have to award anything at all. morgan radford, nbc news, nashville. it's 11:38 now. a medical examiner says bobbi christina brown died as a result of her face being immersed in water and a drug intoxication. the results were made public this morning on what would have been her 23rd birthday. the official said the cause of death was pneumonia but that it was caused by the way she was found and the sedative drugs in her system. the medical examiner was not able to determine whether her death was accidental or

intentional. the daughter of whitney houston and bobby brown was found facedown and unresponsive in a bathtub in her home near atlanta in january of 2015. she died in hospice care several months later. a driver attacks a passenger of another car in the middle of a california intersection. a commuter used his cell phone to record the road rage incident near san bernardino. the driver of an suv -- of an suv was seen pulling another man out of the passenger seat of a pickup truck, as you see. the pickup driver then came to her passenger's defense after less than 30 seconds everyone involved jumped back into their vehicles and drove off. it's not clear what started the fight, but it appears no one was seriously hurt. and police are not expected to charge anyone. south carolina police are looking for a shoplifting suspect whose getaway did not go as planned. surveillance video shows him rushing out of a walmart and running smack into an suv. he got to his feet and took off.

we're looking at sunny slopes in the poconos mountains. clouds have broken, never really snowed in the pocono mountains, snow stayed to the south, very light, get sunshine in allentown and still you can see the clouds are getting over philadelphia but they're starting to break in montgomery and bucks counties while it is still cloudy in delaware and south jersey. it is now just south jersey that is seeing the snowfall. interior new jersey it's actually looking a little bit more impressive than in cape may where it has come to an end. winter weather advisory still in effect for coastal counties, but that will not last through the afternoon. what a range of snowfall totals. this is new jersey and delaware from 3 inches to 6.5 inches on the ground in cape may. and that is on the ground not on the roadway. with the sun coming through even with the clouds that has limited the snow totals on the roads, but the grassy surfaces, those colder surfaces, 5 inches in
