shots fired. aramingo. >> gunmen open fire on a police vehicle in philadelphia. investigators have two suspects in custody and looking for more. good evening. i'm rosemary connors. sky force 10 first on the scene capturing images of police with guns drawn looking for the shooters. that manhunt is still under way. lauren mayk joins us live. no officers were injured in the shooting? >> reporter: that's right. officers in the area heard a shootout in the neighborhood and went to check it out. and this is where things ended up.

let's show you that car behind me that you see, that is an undercover vehicle that was driven by a narcotics officer here and it was fired on. now, police don't know whether the gunman knew that this was a police car but they say it was brazen just the same and that officer is lucky to be okay. the search through this frankfort neighborhood followed gun fire. >> in succession. like that. i was just, wow. i was three blocks away and could hear how loud it was. >> just a bunch of gun fire. it sounded crazy. >> reporter: police heard shots, too. went to investigate on hedge street. >> three to four males pointing guns in his direction at the police vehicle and fire several shots. >> reporter: police tell us this unmarked ford taurus was hit with a bullet and they believe fired upon several times. they found four shell casing from a large semiautomatic

weapon in front of it. >> a few feet from the officer in the driver's seat where that bullet struck in the front bumper. >> reporter: that officer wasn't injured. dozens of officers combed the area where they took two suspects in the custody and continued to search for one or two more. >> brazen. it's very stupid to be firing a gun at anyone, especially a police officer. it's out here to protect everyone. >> reporter: police tell us officers on scene did not return fire. tonight, you know, this shooting really hits home for officers here in the city. this weekend, they will be marking the one-year anniversary of one of their own. officers robert wilson's death. live in frankford, lauren mayk, nbc 10 news. tonight, a man in custody and recovering from a gunshot wound after police say he was

shot from the person who was trying to rob. a group of men tried to rob him around 5:30 tonight. happened at broad and allegheny avenue in north philadelphia. the shooter and the man who was shot are both in custody after police continue to piece this together. tonight, we have new information about a discovery that brings america back to the trial of the century. a knife purportedly found on o.j. simpson's property. sources tell nbc news that the knife appears to be too small to be the murder weapon but they're not ruling anything out. nbc's patrick heally reports from los angeles. >> reporter: now in a nevada case on an unrelated case, o.j. simpson is the topic. a generation after he was found not guilty in the brutal murders of his former wife nicole brown and her friend ron goldman. the murder weapon never found but lapd confirms in the past month it's come into possession of a knife apparently found on

simpson's former property. >> it's been submitted to our lab. they are going to study it and examine it for all forensics. >> reporter: the captain said lapd learned a retired motor officer got it when he was workingoff duty. >> he claimed an individual who claimed to be a construction worker provided him with the knife claiming it was found on the approximate. >> reporter: the account is being vetted. >> if the cop thought it was important, he could have turned it in to someone before now. >> reporter: carl douglas was part of the defense team. >> for them to suggest or to harbor any belief that this knife is connected is pure fantasy. >> murder weapon is always a key piece of evidence but you don't need it. >> reporter: regardless, because simpson is found not guilty of the double murders the law says he cannot fair double jeopardy,

he cannot be tried again. nbc sources describe what was found like a construction worker's utility knife. smaller than expected. but no decisions on its authenticity until after the testing. in los angeles, patrick healy for nbc 10 news. the prosecutor in the o.j. simpson murder trial is talking about the high profile case that continues to make headlines more than two decades later. marcia clark sat down for a two-hour special, the people versus o.j. simpson. what the jury never heard. clark told nbc that she never wanted simpson to try on the leather gloves that police said belonged to the killer and blames herself for the verdict. >> i felt horrible. it was physically painful. you know? that was not justice. and i thought of ron and nicole. i thought, this is wrong. it's so wrong. >> clark says she believes there was no way her team could convince the jury that o.j. was

guilty. in the end they acquitted him of the murders. don't miss the two-hour special here on nbc 10. it airs this sunday night at 9:00 followed by nbc 10 news at 11:00. tonight, this picture has led to outrage online. it shows upper darby high school students dressed up as the ku klux klan. the costumes were part of a class assignment meant to depict the historical impact of the 1920s. but school district leaders admit that the assignment was inappropriate. nbc 10 tells us what the high school is doing about it now. >> reporter: the class assignment happened last school year and school leaders did in the know about it until pictures resurfaced last night and they say they'll be working through the weekend to figure out a plan on how to move forward. this picture posted on twitter last august but just started gaining traction online. >> that's terrible. that's terrible. why would they do that?

>> reporter: it shows three upper darby high school students dressed as the kkk part of a skit in history class of 1920s. >> one of the diversed schools i have seen in my life. that's sad. >> reporter: the district said it was meant to highlight the atrocities of the ku klux klan and no intention to harm anyone but it was a poor judgment. >> i don't think we need to dress like the kkk to talk about the historical time period. >> reporter: christie should know. she's teaching the class about the 1920s in another school aiman with all of the diversity in mind and everybody is included and not doing anything to offend any particular group of students. >> reporter: across the district, administrators, teachers and staff are taking diversity school and they plan

to speak to students about the issue on monday. reporting in upper darby, nbc 10 news. in chester county, three high school football players facing criminal charges for allegedly hazing a teammate. the district attorney says the investigation uncovered a hazing culture that goes back at least four years at conestoga high school. the students call it no-gate thursday. authorities say three seniors on the football team held down a freshman player and violated him with a broom stick. dry night in bucks county. nbc 10 was at the shops that flower mill and no sign of snow here. very different story this morning when some falling flakes made for slick roads. this pickup truck went off the garden state parkway. as you can see, ended up at the bottom of an embankment.

meteorologist sheena parveen with more on what to expect for the weekend. talking about snow? >> we have snow showers in the weekend forecast believe it or not. don't be surprised the see that sunday morning. we'll have a cold start to the weekend. look at the temperatures right now. below freezing in millville. 29 degrees. 32 in reading. from the snow of this morning we have some wet spots out there so really any areas that have not dried will be icing as we go overnight tonight so temperatures will be cold to start your saturday. and that's going to carry in to the middle of the day. for saturday morning, look at the temperatures overnight. below freezing. 7:00 in the morning, 9:00 degrees. by 10:00 a.m., temperatures in the mid-30s and we'll see just about mostly cloudy skies. now, aside from that, we have this weather system around chicago, a small clipper system bringing parts of the area snow showers by sunday morning. we'll take a look at the timing

trump continued attacks against mitt romney as well as the other republican presidential candidates, marco rubio and ted cruz. whom he referred to as little marco and lying ted. and then ben carson ended his bid for the white house at the conservative political action convention or cpac today in maryland. carson surged in the polls in the fall but lost momentum after questions of policy expertise came to light. today carson joked, quote, a lot of people love me. they just won't vote for me. now to the democrats, senator bernie sanders blasted hillary clinton in a rally in traverse city, michigan, earlier today. more than 2,000 supporters were on hand for the event. sanders criticized clinton for positions of free trade and blamed her for the decline in manufacturing jobs. clinton also in michigan today after touring a detroit auto parts maker, told a crowd that the nation needs a new bargain to create better paying jobs. clinton and sanders will debate on sunday night in flint,

tonight police looking for the last person to see a cook alive before she was murdered at a south philadelphia restaurant. investigators call this man a person of interest in the case. he goes by the name noel. he's a co-worker of sung win. they were both preparing food in the basement kitchen of lee's cafe and bistro last night. when the owner went to check on a food order, he found win dead with a deep cut to her throat

and noel nowhere to be found. pennsylvania governor tom wolf made a first public appearance today since announcing that he has prostate cancer. the governor did a meet and greet with employees of urban outfitters in the navy yard part of the wolf's jobs that pay tour. they started with 600 workers at the headquarters in the navy yard. ten years later, that's now 3,000. governor wolf said the company is committed to staying in pennsylvania. a popular center city restaurant operating after the philadelphia health department ordered it to shut down. nbc 10 confirmed that mccormick and schmick's seafood and steaks were issued an order on wednesday. this after an inspector allegedly found standing waste water and water leaking from the ceiling. a corporate spokesperson says restaurant management acted swiftly to resolve the situation. robert deniro was in town today making an appearance at

the grand opening of a liquor store in delaware county. the legendary actor helped to cut the ribbon at the store in glen mills. 15 people waiting outside the store won golden tickets to meet him. we talked to a winner who was literally shaking with excitement. >> such an amazing actor. very kind, very polite. very calming because i'm very nervous. >> the store tells us that this is his first time ever participating in a store opening. on this friday night, students in metropolitan good morning ri county were at school trying to knock each other out. it was a dodgeball tournament that brought kids from kindergarten to high school and the goal to make a difference in the community. in this mad dash to the dodgeball, every step counts. and strategy is the name of the game. >> we usually go for the best

million. i would do that for you, sheena. buy you breakfast if i had the winning ticket. >> i would take you down to the florida keys with me. and then we would buy an island and nobody would see us again but that's a different story. in the morning this weekend, though, it feels like winter still not feeling like spring just yet. that is in the forecast. we have the threat of some icy spots just because of the snow that fell this morning. still some slushy areas possible or wet spots but by early sunday morning, we have another round of showers moving in. some snow showers with another small clipper system and showing you that in a second. otherwise, next week we are talking about warmer weather. temperatures in the 70s. feeling like spring. right now, north and west of philadelphia, freezing many spots. philadelphia at 36%. south jersey and delaware, mid-30s. atlantic city airport at 30 degrees now. and as we go overnight, temperatures keep on dropping to

about the upper 20s. areas of ice forming. not for everybody. because a lot of areas did dry out today. keep it in mind tomorrow morning, new jersey and delaware with the most amount of snow today. right now, we are nice and dry and we are going to stay that way going into your weekend but by the middle of the weekend, meaning sunday morning, we have this small clipper system right now moving through chicago, pretty quickly and snow with it and seeing some of that move in. by 7:00 tomorrow morning, we are looking at temperatures in the upper 20s to low 20s, areas north and west through the afternoon. we stay dry and then late tomorrow night and early sunday there you see the approach of that snow. 6:00 sunday morning. philadelphia. even north and west of philadelphia. through the philadelphia area and possibly parts of new jersey and delaware. should start to break up quickly

and clearing as we go through the afternoon. as far as snow totals, really we don't expect much. maybe a coating to an inch around the philadelphia area and north and west of that and we could see a mix across the philadelphia area, too. after that whole thing leaves, we are talking about a big warm-up monday through wednesday. 70-degree temperatures move in. not tonight, feeling like winter. tomorrow, cloudy and cold. 42 to 45 degrees. and then we'll be watching that small clipper system sunday morning and snow showers sunday morning. don't be surprised if you see that. should be out of here pretty quick. next week, 60. by wednesday, 72. in bucks county, a basketball game to battle cancer. the crowds were in full force at maple point middle school and organizers hosted the third annual coaches versus cancer boys basketball doubleheader. the money raised tonight will be donated to the american cancer
