nbc 10 news starts now. today the nation mourns the passing of former firstç lady nancy reagan. we'll take a look back at her life and legacy. democratic candidate hillary clinton and bernie sanders square off in their seventh debate. the talk about the auto bailout, the water crisis in flint, michigan and more. get ready, a warmup is on the way. in fact, we could hit the 70s this week. sounds pretty good in is "nbc 10 news today." i'm lauren mayk. let's get right to meteorologist bill henley with your first alert forecast this morning. bill, 70s, that is pretty fantastic? >> our own version of spring

break. today, a chilly start, yes, the skies are clear, the temperatures dropped into.20s for most of the area but is completely dry. nothing to show you on the radar. plenty of sunshine. the temperatures will be climbing, 35 degrees at 6:00. by 9:00, 44 and with bright sunshine into the 50s. look at the wind out of the southwest at 14 miles an hour. that will help to push temperatures even higher. we should top out at 60 degrees or warmer today. i'll go through the forecast neighborhood by neighborhood when i'm back in ten minutes. katy zachry is watching first alert traffic. >> it's quiet on the roads but let's give you an overview of what's going on. this is a live look outside at the schuylkill expressway at montgomery drive. tends to get really busy as we push into the morning commute hours. your drive time as you head into center city philadelphia from the blue route, 12 minutes to reach the vine street expressway. 76 is looking good. 95 is looking good as well southbound as you make your way between woodhaven and the vine

and the blue route is looking good as well. a quick check of area bridges. everything is free and clear,no i issues to report on area bridges. today the nation remembers former first lady nancy reagan. she died yesterday at her home at the age ever 94. matt delucia is live in the digital operations center this morning. people have been spending the past day honoring n@ícy reagan. what are you finding? >> she's being remembered for her strength, class and as a woman who changed the role of first ladies. mourners have been leaving displays. president and mrs. obama said they are fortunate to benefit from mrs. reagan's proud example. there was a moment of silence at the democratic presidential debate in flint, michigan and several of the gop presidential candidates paid tribute to mrs. reagan on the campaign

ended up saving the auto industry. >> if you are talking about the wall street bailout, where some of your friends destroyed this economy, through -- >> you know. >> excuse me. i'm talking. >> clinton joined sanders in calling for michigan's governor to resign or be recalled. some people are blaming him for the problem of contaminated drinking water in flint. here's how the race for the democratic nomination stands right now. the delegate totals show hillary clinton with more than 1,100 delegates, just lessç than half of the total needed to win the nomination. bernie sanders is trailing clinton by more than a two-to-one margin. on the republican side, marco rubio has nearly two dozen new delegates after winning the puerto rico primary. voters on the island gave the florida senator an overwhelming victory yesterday. this is rubio's second win of the campaign following a victory last week in minnesota.

donald trump still leads the republican nomination battle with 392 delegates. ted cruz is now within 100 delegates of the front-runner. marco rubio and john kasich trail in the field. yesterday kasich picked up an endorsement. >> then when he ran for governor, i said to him, i'll be back. governor john kasich. >> former california governor arnold schwarzenegger threw his support behind kasich in columbus, ohio. schwarzenegger called the governor an action hero in his own right. kasich is pinning everything on a win in his home state's primary. that is one week from tomorrow. this morning, police are looking for a gunman want for shooting a teenage fast food worker in north philadelphia. the customer was having dinner at the church's chicken restaurant on north broad street. police say he got angry, pulled out a gun and shot a 19-year-old employee at least three times. medics rushed the victim to the hospital where he is in stable

condition. the shooter ran away from the scene and crime scene investigators found bullets and shell casings scattered across the restaurant. >> senseless. a senseless crime. getting shot over chicken? come on. >> police tell us it is possible the customer got angry when employees were cleaning tables near his food. this morning, investigators are looking for a man in his late 50s or early 60s. just a half hour before that shooting, about a mile and a half away, police say someone killed a woman in a second floor apartment on north 17th street. police say the killer beat the woman with a hammer. she was pronounced dead at the scene. there is still no word on what led toç this killing. and no one has been arrested. happening today, dozens of delaware airmen are coming home. some 60 members of the delaware air national guard are returning to the new castle base on two different flights. they've spent the last four months in the middle east as part of operation freedom

sentinel. there will be more airmen returning tomorrow and wednesday. it's 4:06 and a pay raise is coming for pennsylvania state workers and contractors. golfer tom wolf is expected to sign an executive order that raises the minimum wage to $10.15 an hour. that is only for employees under wolf jurisdictions and employees of state contractors. the democratic governor has asked the republican-controlled legislature to raise the minimum wage for all workers to $10 an hour. the republican lawmakers disagree with the idea. the current rate is $7.25 an hour. one of the lowest levels in the nation. now your nbc 10 first alert weather with meteorologist bill henley. >> chilly start this morning. our skies are clear. the temperatures have been dropping overnight. we're in the 30s. a couple spots have dropped down into the 20s. the chill this morning will not last long. we'll see bright sunshine today, into the very low 60s this afternoon. but that's not warm enough for

4:12 and authorities have accuse a coatesville man of arranging an armed robbery that led to the death after lincoln university student. police arrested evander wilson. investigators say he drove two students off campus late saturday night where three masked men robbed them. one of the masked men shot christopher robinson in the neck. he died at the hospital

wilson faces homicide, robbery an other charges. a teenager is dead after a new jersey transit train struck him in mercer county. officials tell us the 18-year-old victim was killed just west of the hamilton station. trains between princeton junction and trenton were delayed while investigators were on the scene. those trains are operating on or close to schedule. families in philadelphia will get to learn more about community schools. the group action united will release new findings offive astudy done on community schools. mayor jim kenney made community schools a priority when he took office. they operate on the idea that schools should be community anchored. in addition to teaching children, they provide clinics or police substations. the information will be hand out at sayre middle school. they want to hear from parents about their neighborhood schools. the councilwoman wants the

community to be more a part of the district's budget process. also happening today, philadelphia will officially launch this year's work ready summer jobs campaign. it's a work force development program for young people between the ages of 14 and 21. participants complete a six-week paid work experience that teaches them skills they can use in the workplace. and new jersey transit officials and yawn onleaders meet again today in newark as a strike deadline looms. both sides met on friday with the national labor board in wag washington. the labor dispute started brewing nearly five years ago when the last union contract expired. the union set a strike deadline for just after midnight next sunday. more flu cases are being reported in new jersey. doctors say the flu is peaking later than in recent years. they say this may be because the milder winter has more people outside and not stuck in close quarters where it can spread more quickly. the flu vaccine has been very

effective this year. health officials say flu is widespread in new jersey, pennsylvania and delaware right now.ç now your nbc 10 first alert weather with meteorologist bill henley. it's 15 minutes after 4:00. temperatures are in the 30s, 34 degrees here at nbc 10. skies are clear. we'll see lots of sunshine today. that number will warm up to near 60 degrees this afternoon. not into the low 60s. a little but of a breeze, south, southwest at 6 miles an hour. that will be picking up, too and will help with a warmup during the day. not much wind or sunshine. that is going to change. coldest temperatures, northern, western suburbs in interior new jersey. 28 degrees in doylestown. it's right at the freezing mark for wilmington. no problem with icing. no seen of any precipitation. just have scattered light clouds in the area. 31 degrees in lafayette hill. it's dropped to 24 in collegeville. a sign of very light wind.

same story for gilbertsville at 25 degrees this morning. cold but clear and dry. showers are going to steer clear of the shore and the rest of the area today. and the temperatures will really take off this afternoon. we'll go from the 30s into the 40s and then into the upper 50s. that's at 3:00 this afternoon. look at that, 60 in pottstown, allentown, reading, 62 degrees. i think we'll peak in the low 60s in philadelphia as well. a nice monday for march. mostly sunny skies, breezy, high temperatures in the upper 50s and low 60s. and warmer weather is in store for us during the workweek. the weekend not looking bad either. saturday, 64 degrees. we'll see some sunshine sunday then late in the day, there's a chance of showers and the temperatures pushing to near 70 degrees. we will see 70s before we get to the weekend. have a look at the seven-day forecast coming up in the next half hour. that's a good way to start out our monday. let's take a look at traffic and

in iraq, isis claimed responsibility for a suicide bombing near baghdad yesterday that killed at least 47 people. iraqi officials say the bomber rammed a fuel truck loaded with explosives into a military checkpoint. they said isis andç other sunn militants are trying to undermine the shiite-led government. vice president joe biden is in the united arab emirates today, the first leg of a middle east tour. earlier, officials greeted the vice president and his wife in abu dhabi. dr. biden also has public events planned with the focus on education and gender empowerment. later this week, the bidens plan to visit jordan and israel. tomorrow marks the two-year

anniversary of the disappearance of malaysia airlines flight 370. there are more clues washing ashore that could lead to answers about the missing jet. a man jogging along the shore of reunion island on friday found a piece of debris that could be a part of the plane. he is actually the same man who found the only confirmed part of the plane in that same place last summer. the families of the 239 victims gathered yesterday to call for the search to continue. right now, the plan is to stop searching in june. a new push to fight lead poisoning in new jersey could get a boost today. state lawmakers will review a bill that would put $10 million into a lead control fund. this program would give money to property owners to safely remove lead paint. governor christie opposes the idea. he says the state already spends millions to get rid of lead. water safety is expected to take

center stage in moorestown, burlington county. residents didn't get a letter notifying them about bacteria in their drinking water until last week. the water crisis in flynn the, michigan, is lead to a new jobs program spearheaded by former first daughter chelsea clinton. the flint water works initiative will provide the city's youth with jobs to help families affect by the water crisis. young adultsd]%11 be given volunteer opportunities to distribute clean water, healthy food and information to families. chelsea clinton says this program is not politically motivated but deeply personal. support has been pouring in to flint from all over. these pictures were taken by members of the new hope full gospel baptist church in norristown. the church says another trip is

in the works. they are accepting donations. a link to the church's facebook page is on nbc10.com. the philadelphia flower show continues today in center city. thousands are heading there to get some ideas for their own gardens. nbc 10 at a crowded pennsylvania convention center last year around this time, there was still snow on the ground. but with some nicer weather this week, organizers say you can learn new things at the show to get to work at home right away. >> japanese flower arrangement was astonishing. >> this is a fund-raiser for the pennsylvania horticultural society. organizers hope this week's 70 degree temperatures won't make people skip the show to spend time outside. the flower show runs through next sunday. it is the opening act of the third annual philadelphia chef

conference. last night's culinary panel discussion was held inside the mitchell auditorium. the discussions were on modern kitchen science and food waste. the justice department says the city of ferguson, missouri, can resolve a cost did i lawsuit if it approves a proposal to real estate form its police and court practices. that's according to a letter obtained by the st. louis post dispatch. the fed sued ferguson over police conduct following the deadly shooting of michael brown and the riots that followed. this letter from a justice department official also rebuts a city belief they would have to give police and other workersç 25% pay raise. city council will vote on the agreement tomorrow. in baltimore, a cvs pharmacy burned during riots last year is now open again. the store was set on fire during protests over the death of freddie gray. crews rebuilt the store and it re-opened yesterday. now your nbc 10 first alert

from here at the nbc 10 studios. a nice warmup. what you won't see, activity here on the radar screen. it's dry this morning, it stays dry. there are cold spots, millville, 23 degrees right now. 23 in toms river, a sign that the wind has died down. coatesville at 34. 34 also on roxborough but just below freezing in south philadelphia. northeast philadelphia at the airport is right above freezing at 33 degrees. you'll have to bundle up if you're heading out the door in the next couple hours. it's going to be chilly but with bright sunshine. you'll be able to ditch the jacket during the day. 34 degrees at 6:00. look at the warmup, up 10 degrees by 9:00 and give it another three hours, we'll be up another ten degrees, 54 and still climbing at lunch time. southwesterly winds at 14 miles an hour will be staying with us into the afternoon hours. that will help with the warmup today. helping with traffic, katy zachry has your first alert traffic. >> i am happy to step in, bill, at a moment's notice.
