wood 48 degrees in wilmington. here's what's going to happen through the morning hours. temperatures here, you see it as we go through time, they keep rising. this morning, 45 degrees. through the afternoon, 70 degrees by 3:00 p.m. much warmer today. the warmup continues tomorrow and even as we go into thursday, we're talking about record warmth in the forecast. and you're not really going to need your umbrella until you get closer to the weekend. coming up, we'll take a look at how warm the rest of the week will be. let's take a look at the roadways with jessica boyington. >> sheena, we're watching 295 for an update. we did have an accident investigation scene closure. we're looking live at 295 around 130 in west deptford. this drive time okay, all roadways re-opened. average speeds still into the

60s in in problems for the rest of our drive times, on the schuylkill or 95. the blue route is looking okay with a 16-minute drive time. mass transit, everything on schedule for septa, new jersey transit, patco. a new jersey state trooper is in the hospital after being hit by a car while responding to i acall on i-295. skyforce 10 was over the scene late last night. the highway was shut down for hours as troopers pieced together what happened here. nbc 10's matt delucia is live at cooper university hospital where the trooper is being treated. matt, what are you learning? >> lauren, right here outside cooper university hospital, you can see there are a couple of state police vehicles, within on the other side of the corn are by the ambulance entrance. what we can tell you, overnight, that stretch of 295 where this happened has re-opened. this is the scene, take a look at video of the southbound lanes

near west deptford. new jersey state police said around 8:20 last night a trooper was responding to a two-car crash and fire, the trooper was standing in the road when another came by and hit him. police say the driver of that car stayed at the scene. the trooper's injuries are serious, including head injuries. officials aren't saying how serious the situation is right now. but he was air lifted to cooper and throughout the night, there have been police cars and fellow troopers standing outside the hospital waiting for any updates. again, that area of 295 near west deptford had been closed for several hours. it has since re-opened. state police also tell us that two people were injured in the original crash. no word yet on their conditions. we'll be working on updates throughout the morning. live in camden, matt delucia, nbc 10 news. decision 2016. voters in four states will cast ballots in the presidential race. michigan and mississippi are holding primary for both

parties. there's also a republican primary in idaho and a gop caucus in hawaii. meantime, republican front-runner donald trump is dealing with more controversy. according to yahoo! a new jersey mobster's daughter claims trump had a long-time relationship with her father, robert laguti. trump has denied for years having a personal relationship with laguti. gop presidential candidate marco rubio held a campaign rally in florida last night. rubio said everything in this race is coming down to his home state. florida's republican primary is officially one week from today. voters can also cast ballots. the race is tightening. a new muonmouth -- former new york mayor

michael bloomberg has decided not to run for the white house. bloomberg said he feared his candidacy would tilt the election to donald trump or ted cruz. the billionaire mogul first floated the idea of a third party bid in january. on the eve of the michigan primary last night, bernie sanders and hillary clinton took questions during a town hall in detroit. the democratic candidates tackled a wide range of issues including abortion rights. >> i am very strongly pro choice. that's a decision to be made by the woman, her physician and her family. >> i object to the recent effort in congress to pass a law saying after 20 weeks, no such exceptions. >> polls show clinton holding a double digit lead on sanders in michigan. now to a story we brought you as breaking news at 11:00. we now know the punishment for a man accused of raping a doctor in rittenhouse square.

garcia was sentenced from 22 to 44 years. he attacked the 26-year-old doctor while she was walking to her apartment in 2014. he sexually assaulted the victim twice before taking her apartment keys and cell phone. investigators tracked that phone to garcia's home in south philadelphia where they arrested him. a chester county man is accused of shooting into the home of a child he is charged with sexually abusing. authorities say douglas cohen fired six bullets into his neighbor's house on sunday. cohen was out on bail after being arrested in january for abusing a girl who lived in the house. one of the bullets just missed a child who was on a couch. >> at 3:00 in the morning the defendant showed up with a .357 revolver, came up to the window and fire the six rounds through it. >> would have been dead and my daughter would have been dead. >> cohen is back in jail and being held on a million dollars

bail. work is starting on a new project to help low income and homeless families. project home will break ground on a new facility on north broad street in north philadelphia. there will be retail and office space as well as 88 apartments for formerly homeless and low income men and women. residents will have access to medical, behavioral health and substance abuse services. the building is slated to open early next year. in north philadelphia today, a boost for universal pre-k. the william penn foundation plans to make a significant grant to the fund for quality. that fund gives money and planning services to places that offer pre-k in philadelphia. today's announcement will be made at a preschool that has already been helped by the fun for quality. the mayor will be there. mayor jim kenney promised universal pre-k as part of his election campaign. two pennsylvania lawmakers will urge schools no the to close over the ongoing budget stalemate in harrisburg. the education department last

month sent school districts a list of things to consider if they do have to close because of a lack of state fund. the dispute between governor tom wolf and the republican-led legislature has put schools in the mid as they fight to payday-to-day expenses. funeral arrangements are in place for the late nancy reagan. she'll lie in repose at the reagan presidential library in california wednesday and thursday, followed by a private funeral friday afternoon. flags are at half-staff outside the reagan library in simi valley and other government buildings around the nation. mrs. reagan died of heart failure sunday morning at her los angeles home. she was 94. president obama spoke about her passing. >> i know how much she meant not just to president reagan but the country as a whole. he was lucky to have her. i'm sure he'd be the first to acknowledge that. so she will be missed. >> nancy reagan will be laid to

rest next to her husband at the reagan library in california. now your nbc 10 first alert weather with meteorologist sheena parveen. >> a very mild start to your day today. it will only get warmer as we go through the afternoon. 70 degree temperatures in the forecast today, tomorrow, even as we go into thursday, record highs in the forecast. next rain chance won't be until the weekend. if you're about to step outside, we're in the 40s. upper 40s for south jersey and delaware. even some spots at 50 degrees, like dover coming in at 50. here's what's going to happen through the morning. temperatures rise into the 50s by 9:00 a.m. quickly into the 60s and we'll be topping out around 70 degrees by the afternoon. it's going to be a much warmer day and nice and dry. right now though on radar, a few showers moving towards lancaster and berks counties around harrisburg. they're not going to make it through the whole area, some

spots north and west could see light showers early. otherwise we keep warming up today. today's highs around 70 degrees, upper 60s through the lehigh valley. then we go through thursday. so wednesday and thursday, 70 degree temperatures stay here. record warmth in the forecast. it will be warm over the next couple of days. for today, though, much warmer, sun and clouds. temperature anywhere from 68 to 71 degrees. a nice dry day. we go through the next couple of days and we just keep on getting warmer. by tomorrow, 76 degrees, record warmth in the forecast. that comes with sunshine. thursday, 78 degrees. that's going to be another potentially record high day. we go into friday, more clouds move in, a little cooler but still nice for this time of year. 68 degrees. well above normal. we go into the weekend, that's our next rain chance. temperatures in the mid-60s. there you see the clock. we spring forward, one hour send morning. >> thanks, sheena.

unbelievable numbers there. let's get a check on traffic with jessica boyington. starting on 95. >> we're doing great on 95 so far. all the drive times are up there. speeds are up as well. cottman avenue it what we're looking at right now. we have a southbound drive time from woodhaven road to the vine street expressway of 14 minutes. speeds averaging about 50 miles an hour. northbound lanes not doing too bad. the falls bridge is closed for rehabilitation work until april. city avenue is the alternate. scheduled openings at least for right now, there are none right now on the tacony palmyra or the burlington bristol. the case of erin andrews is now over. she didn't get the $75 million award she wanted but the jury did not let her stalker or hotel

a drug investigation leads to a police chase and ends in a crash in west philadelphia. four people are in the hospital in critical condition. police tell us it all started when they spotted a possible drug buy in darby borough, delaware county. two suspects took off in a rental car in west philadelphia, crashing into several cars and taking off on foot. >> next thing i know this guy is coming around me, hits the side of me left front bumper. >> when we came outside we seen the one person running down the

street. we thought he got away. >> police arrested one suspect right away and say the other ran in a laundromat, changed clothes and hopped on a septa bus. officers eventually caught up to him. an internal affairs investigation found a septa officer acted within department guidelines when he tasered a suspect who later died. lopez died less than an hour after he was in handcuffs. >> at one point, mr. lopez punched the officer and grabbed at the officer's gun belt. the officer repeatedly warned mr. lopez to supply, put his hands behind his back and if he refused he was going to be tased. mr. lopez bit the officer's left wrist. >> an autopsy showed lopez died of a drug overdose. one officer was suspended for sending lopez to the wrong hospital when there was one a lot closer. police continue to search for a man who they say shot a

teen employee at a church's chicken in philadelphia's tioga section on sunday night. surveillance video captured the suspect who is believed to be in his 60s. investigators say the suspect men to shoot the employee's brother after they got into an argument at the fast food restaurant. the victim remains in the hospital. $55 million. that's what a jury awarded sportscaster erin andrews yesterday in a lawsuit over a nude video. andrews won the judgment against both the owner of a nashville hotel and the man who secretly recorded the video threw a peephole. andrews said the hotel should have kept michael barrett from finding out her room number. she previously pleaded guilty to stalking andrews. the damages were split just about evenly between barrett and the hotel. main line health invested in new medical equipment that is smaller than a suitcase but has the power to extend and save lives. in this season of flu, it is those patients stricken the

worst who are benefiting. nbc 10's katy zachry is live outside lankenau medical center in wynnewood this morning. what can this do, katy? >> reporter: they have an ecmo machine. it takes blood out of the body and the machine oxygen ates the blood when the heart and lungs aren't able to do that. here in lankenau they've recently invested in four portable ecmo machines. doctors say they are saving even more lives than before because it allows a patient at another hospital to remain hooked up to an ecmo machine while being transported here in.past they would have to be unhooked. that was risky. especially during the current flu season, these portable ecmos are game changers when it comes to treating people whose lungs have filled with fluid. >> once we put them on the pump, we can save their oxygen levels. the body can survive until the

lungs get better. for many of the young, healthy people, the youngs ultimately heal up. >> coming up in the next hour, you'll meet a patient whose life was saved because of the ecmo machine. reporting live in wynnewood, katy zachry, nbc 10 news. the woman with the nation's first successful uterus transplan is the thanking her donor and surgeons and giving new hope to thousands of women unable to have children on their own. the 26-year-old patient spent nine hours in surgery at the cleveland clinic last month. doctors will now keep a close eye on her for the next year or so to make sure her body does not reject the new organ. experts hope she'll eventually get pregnant through in vitro fertilization. lindsay says she prayed for years hoping to one day give birth to a child. >> i have prayed that god would allow me the opportunity to experience pregnancy and here we are today at the beginning of that journey. >> transplant patients receive

uteruses temporarily. after they've successfully given birth, the organ is removed. now your nbc 10 first alert weather with meteorologist sheena parveen. >> it's a mild start to your day. temperatures are mostly in the 40s across the area. but as we go through the afternoon, we have 70 degrees temperatures in the forecast. it's not just today. it's going to be through tomorrow and thursday. but those are the days where we expect some record warmth across the area. mid to upper 70s. the average high is actually 50 degrees. we'll be over 25 degrees above normal. feeling a lot like spring this week an we go into the weekend and we start to see showers moving in. right now across the area, we're dry. clouds around 47 degrees for philadelphia and it feels like 47. it doesn't feel colder outside this morning. pretty comfortable actually, 43 in allentown, 46 in reading. in wilmington, near 50 degrees, same thing in glassboro and dover, we're at 50 degrees right

now, atlantic city coming in at 49 this morning. here's a look at the radar. we are dry but there are a few showers off around harrisburg, moving in this direction. there's a chance some of those could make it into berks county, maybe lehigh valley. overall we're going to be pretty much on the dry side by the afternoon. here's a look at the high temperatures this afternoon, right around 70 for philadelphia, hammonton, 68 for quakertown, 69 for trenton, allentown and west chester. it continues tomorrow into thursday, 70 degree temperatures stay with us and we could even be seeing record highs for wednesday and thursday. for today, though, it's going to be a nice day. warmer than yesterday. mix of sun and clouds. temperatures around 70 degrees. but we keep on warming and then that chance for weekend showers moves in. i'll show you that with the seven-day forecast. that's coming up. >> thanks, sheena. looking forward to that warmer weather. let's check on traffic with jessica boyington. she's keeping an eye on the schuylkill for us.

what are you seeing out there, jessica? >> lauren, we are watching the schuylkill expressway around montgomery drive. no real big problems so far right now. you can see your drive times behind us, still on the eastbound side, a 13-minute trip. from the blue route to the vine street expressway. speeds into the 50s, no lane restrictions what so ever or construction to worry about. severe headed eastbound toward the center city area. you'll be just fine at least right now. here's the pa turnpike, looking the same right now. you can see we are in the green, drive times, we're down, speeds are up. westbound to valley forge, 23 minutes there. same going eastbound. allentown, construction on south 8th street closed between union street and lehigh street. watch out for that. more updates on your morning drive when i come back in the next ten. seemingly out of nowhere, this guy throws a sucker punch on stage in philadelphia. a well-known comedian reportedly involved in this brawl.

public figure. check out this police chase in south carolina. a driver sped through the streets near clemson university with his hood up, blocking his view of the road. that didn't stop him and neither did stop sticks that officers threw in his path. he made it through two counties before police finally got him at a gas station.
