county startled neighbors so much they woke up last night as flames spread to a.çgí warehousd a dozen cars this is the opportunity of calwin where the future of the fire department is in question. it's a story the nbc 10 investigators have been following. harry hairston live with more on the community. >> reporter: it was a big one, flames shooting high into the sky. explosions could be heard for blocks around. right now there is still no word on what caused that blaze. but i can tell you why

firefighters are upset they would not respond to a fire blocks away from the fire company. the colwyn fire company president says this is the biggest fire he's seen in more than 20 years. maurice clark is the president of company 92. he believes politics kept his firefighters from responding to last night's warehouse fire. >> my concern is that council and the state is not doing what they were told 92 they were going to do, which is ensure the trucks, give us workmen's comp and ensure the building, which the bore borough has been doing for years. >> reporter: the firefighters do not have workmen's compensation. >> we're not putting men out there without workmen's comp. >> reporter: nearby darby borough has to cover. the first company to respond with several others. last week the investigators told you about darby sending colwyn a

30-day notice. the council member expressed his concerns today. >> sure, it's a safety concern. without a fire company, it's a safety concern. last night an example? >> last night, it was an example. >> reporter: the borough's under a state emergency act to get finances back on track. officials recommended they shut down the department and say the firefighters are not qualified to do the job. question again, you could have used extra man power from here? >> the more the merrier. and any extra man power would have been appreciated, yes. >> reporter: well, as we said the fire company believes politics knocked them out of the job. they're hoping politics work in their favor tomorrow. they've been handing out these flyers to residents in the area wanting them to show up at tomorrow's council meeting to urge council to vote the firefighters insurance for worker's compensation and get them back on the job. for the investigators, harry

hairston, nbc 10. one of six people killed during a violent stretch in philadelphia the brother of an nbc 10 player. tuesday's murders scattered across west philadelphia, grays ferry, east falls. a victim, dion waitewaiter's yo brother. police haven't said which scene involved his brother. the oklahoma thunder released a statement saying we were saddened to hear the news of the passing of dion's brother he has our full support. dion and his family are in our thought and prayers during this difficult time. philadelphia police identified the suspect they believe shot a teenage employee at a church's chicken. investigators are looking for this man, ronald graham. it shows the moment before police say graham shot a 19-year-old employee inside the tioga fast-food restaurant sunday. graham got into an argument with

the employee's brother who also works there. graham then left the restaurant, came back, and allegedly shot the wrong brother. the victim is in stable condition, at temple university hospital. police are analyzing this video to help them learn more what led to a deadly high speed crash in north philadelphia. police say the driver lost control near second and cecil b. more, hitting three light poles, a tree, and different buildings before the car burst into flames the driver badly burned. investigators are not been able to identify him. the crash left debris scattered aen lo the road including gift cards and up. s in packaging. a witness told nbc 10 what he saw. >> tried to get to the car but i couldn't, it was too hot. he was already dead, i think he was already dead when he hit the wall, because it ignited, boom! it blew up. >> investigators are looking into whether the car may have

break marco rubio's campaign. he's been heavily campaigning in his home state after a rough night. he did not pick up any delegates from yesterday's contest and finished fourth behind john kasich in michigan and mississippi. trump is calling on the republican party to unite around him as his campaign maintains its lead. he'll hold a rally in fayetteville, north carolina. trump won the majority of states, yesterday his delegate lead over cruz grew by 15. two democratic candidates will debate in miami fresh off of bernie sanders' big upset over hillary clinton in michigan. some say momentum has shifted after tuesday's win but he's more than 600 delegates behind clinton. the vermont senator won a narrow victory in a state where polls had showed him far behind clinton. the former secretary of state grabbed a commanding win in mississippi's primary which boosted her delegate lead. everything you need to know about decision 2016, go to nbc 10 app.

crews are sifting through rubble in seattle after a massive gas explosion here injured nine firefighters. the explosion levelled three businesses, a coffee house, restaurant, and a bike shop and it blew out windows as far as two blocks away. the blast happened as firefighters were on the scene investigating a leak. all their injuries are minor. investigators are trying to figure out what went wrong. the clock is ticking. now three days and seven hours away from a possible new jersey transit rail strike. negotiators% back at the bargaining table. both sides saying they've been making progress. new jersey transit says there's a dispute with the union over how service would be stopped in the event of the strike. trains would gradually be taken out of service. more than 4,000 workers authorized a strike for sunday. some 100,000 riders affected.

that includes tens of thousands who would have to find a new way around. live look at philadelphia's 30th street station. new jersey transit, atlantic city line runs between here and a.c. a strike would impact the station's at trenton, hamilton, princeton which people use to get to new york. pennsylvania's ongoing budget battle has lawmakers accusing governor tom wolf of holding education funds hostage. the house members held a news conference calling on wolf to release the money to school districts and back off his demands for increases in the state income tax. wolf vetoed $3 billion in education funding in december as leverage for additional taxes to pay for increased state spending. >> it's not something that the people that i represent can afford. and the message that i get from my constituents is loud and clear, and that message is that you need to stand your ground and need to be certain that you don't allow this guy to just go

crazy in terms of taxes. >> governor wolf's press secretary tells nbc 10 golf wolf is working to balance a budget that makes historic investments in education at all levels and looks forward to continuing to work with republicans in the legislature to accomplish this. >> people in new jersey divide over whether the state should intervene. a bare majority, just 51% think the city should handle financial troubles on their own. 44% say new jersey should step in and take greater control. state's split on whether to allow gambling outside ac. 44% favor moving casinos but 49% say stay in ac. people looking to put down root and buy a home in philadelphia could get help making that down payment. wells fargo teaming up with local community organizations to

a lot of people around new jersey and beyond have heavy hearts today. state police announced funeral arrangements for trooper shawn cullen. >> cullen died after a passing driver hit him monday night. a celebration of life will be held sunday. cullen will be laid to rest monday. cydney long live where law enforcement is preparing themselves for another funeral. >> reporter: jacqueline, excruciating, that's how one new jersey state police trooper described how the law enforcement family is feeling.

especially with cullen's death. it is one of three trooper deaths in the last ten months. all of three young men in law enforcement under 31 years old. may 30th, 2015, trooper anthony raspa killed when a cruiser struck a deer. eli macarson killed when his car hit a slick spot and went off the road. now shawn cullen struck as he responded to a crash monday. all of them just starting their careers in law enforcement, all killed in or near their cars. >> new jersey state police has suffered three line of duty deaths in the last ten months. it is really been a bad year. >> reporter: state police and local departments where cullen served all working with heavy hearts. on thursday, mt. holly police with westhampton planned a candlelight vigil at academy road fallen officer memorial.

>> we'll be helping the family through funeral arrangements. we don't bury a trooper and move on. the family of a trooper is always a member of the state police family. >> reporter: police tell me they reach out to previously fallen trooper families for one parents and widow of eli whose funeral shy of three months ago, two days before christmas. >> the problem with being a police officer, it's an inherently dainherent ly dangerous job. >> reporter: 70 new jersey line of duty deaths, 52, vast majority, involved a vehicle, motorcycle pursuit or vehicular assault. state police don't know yet if a move over law violation may have factored into the death monday. some local police departments tell me they will campaign to remind motorists of the law that was acted in 2009, enacted to save lives of emergency

responders. it's punishable up to $500 in fines. more coming up at 6:00. sid n. long, nbc 10 news. >> new information on a house fire that injured three people in montgomery county. the flames broke out in a second floor bedroom. one of the victims is at the burn center. the others recovering. an investigator trying to figure out what started the fire. police are hoping you help track down a man killing two women two years ago. they released this mugshot of ronald dorsey, he should be considered armed and dangerous. wanted for murdering two women. both shot to death inside their home on vista street august 2014. police arrested james meares after those killings. their investigation helped them identify ronald dorsey as a

second suspect. a florida substitute teacher is in trouble, accused of teaching while drunk. police arrested her yesterday, she faces a number of charges including child neglect. staff members told police she appeared visibly drunk while on duty. high school students in trouble in western pennsylvania charged after police say they brought marijuana candy to school. known as kushy punch, similar to gummi bears but contains thc, active ingredient in marijuana. investigators say students brought the laced candy to west mifflin high school and shared it with other students. one student went to the hospital to be checked out but okay. students could face drug possession charges. local nurses are pitching in to help fill a need that is forgot enwhen it comes to helping the homeless. nurses from all five main line health hospitals gathered to

>> uh-huh. >> reporter: you don't like these birds. >> i know that. i like other birds but not these ones. >> reporter: buzzards, turkey buzzards and nest behind courtney's day care and elementary school. and they fly all over the township. >> what i worry about is them getting potentially sick from feces because they end up playing on the playground and going to the bathroom on the playground and ply husband has to scrub the equipment with bleach and water. >> reporter: the buzz ards found a food source three years ago and they moved in for good. >> territorial and hard to get rid of. this not a lot we can do other than try to get rid of them in a safe way. >> reporter: since birds are protected, keeping them safe is priority. so are making sure the residents don't foot the bill for a few targeted. >> visual deterrents, consist sift of streamers or balloons. >> reporter: then a fake bird placed in the nest to appear dead. that will make birds move out of
