11:20 am
it's 50 degrees, so even though we'll be cooler across the weekend we're still going to be well above normal. there's the cold front up to our north and west, some light rain with it. and that rain has already started to at least try and move into parts of lehigh valley. at the most we're seeing maybe a few sprinkles through parts of berks county, but more rain as we go into tonight. before that rain gets here we're looking at another record high day for part of the area. then we'll watch as rain approaches the poconos, lehigh valley closer to midnight tonight. a lot of this will move through while you're sleeping and for part of the morning commute. there you see 6:00 in the morning i think we'll still have light rain lingering through mostly south jersey and delaware. temperatures with the rain around 60 degrees. then we clear out for the later part of the morning commute. and by lunchtime tomorrow we'll be cooler and clearing through the area. so temperatures by noon around 60 degrees. so noticeably cooler compared to what we had today and what we had yesterday, record warmth again today, mix of sun and
11:21 am
clouds, rain moving in later tonight. 79 to 83 for the high temperature with that normal high being 50. so we are still 30 degrees above that as we go through this afternoon. tomorrow, mid-60s, still mild when you compare it to our normal high of 50, but cool erc. then we go across the weekend. we set the clock forward one hour sunday morning and later in the day sunday a chance of showers returns. that lingers into monday. thank you, sheena. it's a story so many people are talking about. a woman is shot in the back by her 4-year-old son. and why there's not a whole lot of sympathy for the gunshot victim. we'll have that straight ahead.

it's become one of the country's most exciting film, interactive media and music festivals. and philadelphia is taking south by southwest by storm this year. several dozen start-ups from our city will be on display at this year's festival. and it's happening thanks to a huge collaboration. david silver is co-founder and president of rec philly. and he's here with ebony lee, strategic development of comcast, the parent company of nbc 10 and telemundo. david, tell us more about the city start-up phl initiative and how rec philly is involved. >> sure thing. it's called amplify philly. we're seeking to amplify the city, talk about all the great tech innovation, businesses, start-ups and music that's happening here in the city of philadelphia. we have great corporations and small businesses and start-ups
11:25 am
and individuals supporting this initiative. and we're headed this weekend to go amplify philly down in austin, texas. >> why is this such a big deal for our city at the local start-ups to get exposure. >> sure thing. south by southwest is the hottest conference probably in the country for media, music, tech and all that. and philadelphia is one of the leading cities in the country for tech and start-ups and music and individuals and entrepreneurs. so to be able to show the great things happening in philadelphia. austin is one of the biggest national stages in the country. it's a great opportunity for the city. >> ebony, let me turn to you and ask why comcast is involved in this project. >> sure. well, we think it's a really exciting time in the city, and we're proud to have our headquarters here. we're proud to be a member of the start-up community. i think people forget we used to be a start-up ourselves 50 years ago. and it's a rich heritage in the city of growing tech companies, growing start-ups. and we just want to be here and be part of the continued growth
11:26 am
of the start of community in the city. >> and comcast is of course building that big tower in center city. this station will move there. and it's going to be all about high-tech. >> yeah. exactly. exactly right. so comcast innovation technology center is going to be 59 stories tall and filled with our greatest technologists, engineers, designers and other people including having entrepreneur resource center inside that center. so for us we want to attract great talent, we want to see start-up community really thrive and boom and make sure we continue to support all the great things that are happening here. >> let me ask you both of you this question, what are your plans beyond south by southwest? >> well, honestly it's take this initiative amplify philly and take what's happening in philadelphia, the tech scene, music scene, start-ups and show that across the country. promote philadelphia outside of philadelphia, show it's the leading city for a place to grow and live and build businesses. and there's so many great things happening here and it's time to show the world that. >> ebony, how about you? >> i think for us, you know, comcast and nbc universal are
11:27 am
tech companies at heart, we're innovation and media companies and always looking for great partnerships. and a lot of those partnerships in the future are going to come out of the start-up and entrepreneurial community. so for us we're keeping our eyes open and want to see great talent and great start-ups come and partner with them in the future if possible. >> i love your reminder that comcast was just a start-up 50 years ago. for more information about start-up phl, just come to our website at nbc10.com or check out the nbc 10 app. david, ebony, thank you very much for coming in. >> thanks so much. >> appreciate it. another one for the record books. here's a live look at the skyline of center city, philadelphia. speaking of comcast, you can see comcast tower in the background. another gorgeous day. sheena will let us know how long this great stretch of weather will last. wow, house collapse caught on camera. we are live at the scene when we

11:32 am
record high for the area. today we expect to be right around the same. remember, we are still technically in winter, so we're over 30 degrees above normal. normal high is 50 degrees. we're going to stay like that today and then some changes tomorrow, a little bit cooler. right now we're at 71 in philadelphia, 72 allentown, 74 northeast philly and mt. holly. and all of these numbers will continue to rise through the afternoon, so we do expect record highs. we will see those cooler changes i was talking about all because of the cold front up at the top of your screen. the rain is because of that cold front. and the rain will be moving through overnight tonight. mainly. lehigh valley starting to see a very few light showers or sprinkles forming. near the allentown area, near the major interstates but really most of it's going to hold off until about midnight for most of the area. right now beautiful look across center city. we have plenty of sunshine, but you see those high clouds around. we'll keep those clouds in the forecast today, but overall we are still looking at a lot of
11:33 am
sun, a lot of warmth across the area and cooler changes that will be leading into your weekend too. i'll show you that forecast coming up. see you then sheena. this morning a house is reduced to rubble in philadelphia's germantown section. and somehow the couple who lived there made it out of the home with barely a scratch. nbc 10's monique braxton shows us what the damage looks like now. monique. >> reporter: the cities life assistance and inspection officer remains here on the scene for several hours now. you can also see it looks like contractors have just arrived on the scene. you cannot see the fencing on the back of their truck, but the assumption is they're going to put fencing around this property. and we can also tell you that philadelphia housing authority has been on the scene. a neighbor came out earlier to sweep away the debris he could move. look closely at our video and imagine holding the ceiling of your home up as the structure is collapsing around you. that's exactly what happened here about 1:00 this morning on
11:34 am
merion street. the falling debris not only leveled a home but damaged parked cars and left a dust coating the street. the couple who lives here says they heard a loud noise before escaping. >> we just heard a boom! boom! and after you know it just all came down. >> reporter: and after dawn the house continued to break apart. the couple tells us this house has been in their family for years. we've also learned the adjacent home is owned by the philadelphia housing authority. we're told the agency planned to demolish the remainder of that structure later today. they told us they are assisting two families, a total of about nine people. we asked lni about complaints regarding this property and the agency told us the only existing
11:35 am
violation was for a vacant property. it was not, and i should either unsafe or eminently dangerous. now, the cause of the collapse is not known at this point, but no doubt we're going to stay on top of this investigation as we monitor developments here throughout the day. you see a contractor there taking down some of the tree limbs so they can get to that property and install fencing. live for now from germantown, monique braxton, nbc 10 news. >> monique, thank you. checking out our nbc 10 headlines. philadelphia police are looking for the driver in a hit-and-run crash in juniata park overnight that left two officers with minor injuries. the officers were in an unmarked car when they were hit from behind. the impact pushed their car into a building. and philadelphia police say they have someone in custody in the shooting of a fast food worker. the shooting happened last weekend at the church's chicken on north broad street in tioga. investigators are not yet identifying the suspect who is
