5:01 pm
the answers and is monitoring the changing conditions to make sure you are prepared. >> let's begin with chief meteorologist glenn "hurricane" schwartz, glenn, how much snow could we see from this storm? >> well, looks like areas north and west and up toward the poconos like the lake wallenpaupack we're seeing here could see the most. i don't think anybody's really going to get hard by this because the storm is not coming together soon enough. new england will get hit harder. we have rain showers up by lake wallenpaupack now. it's way too warm for snow at the moment. there's a tremendous amount of moisture as you can see from missouri down into the gulf of mexico, just not necessarily going to organize fast enough. here is that storm that's going to develop along north carolina coast. bring moisture in from the atlantic. at the same time cold air is coming in. that adds up to snow. especially sunday afternoon and into sunday evening. and especially after dark it's got better chance of accumulating.
5:02 pm
but it could start even before daybreak on sunday. as a mixture of rain and snow. could even start as rain in many parts of the area and even if it's snowy it will be melting because cold air isn't in yet. noon to 6 p.m., the cold air is coming in more so. and so, a mix changes over to snow in philadelphia and stays snow north and west. the best chance for accumulation again 6:00 p.m. to midnight. and we're going to be seeing some of that mixing with rain during the daytime hours. and nearly all snow to the north and west. more on how much to expect where you live with the 7 day in a few minutes. >> all right, glenn. our first alert team coverage continues with cydney long live in lafayette hill. >> this is going to be a shock to the system for i think all of us. >> reporter: considering we've seen the temperatures climb well in the 80s over the last couple weeks, many people, they have packed away their essentials, winter gear, their hats and

5:04 pm
>> the easter flowers and tulips will find warmth in the green house, this as their shovels and salt are coming out of their storage shed and placed back at the front of the store. >> we can get to it quickly. but we always store it over the season, so i'll have it if the storms get that bad. we'll have it. >> all my plants are blooming. the daffodils, and my crab apple tree blossomed. that means the snow is going to kill the blossoms. >> you're a little mad. >> yes. >> reporter: and folks here say right now before spring snow is the best time to lay down grass seed. any snow that sticks will seal in the moisture and prevent the seeds from blowing away so it may make your grass a little bit greener when spring decides to stick around for good. live in lafayette hill, cydney long, "nbc 10 news." >> the storm headed our way will be changing throughout the weekend. so, count on nbc 10 first alert

5:21 pm
over the next couple of days as we head to the weekend. we have some showers that we're tracking now. they are generally light. we have colder weather over the weekend and hours and hours of snow coming on sunday for many of us. we have partly sunny skies now, it's 63 degrees, west at 25, gusting to 36 miles an hour. it is really windy out there. but it's warm, 60 in reading and lancaster and bensalem and mount holly and glassboro. 62 in wilmington. 64 in millville and dover. we're not going to see temperatures like that again until the middle of next week. temperatures going down tomorrow, out of the 40s, sunday may not get out of the 30s and then monday is going to be plain windy and cold. a few light showers up toward the poconos and the lehigh valley. that's about it. for this system. but there's a lot more moisture with this next one. now, it is not organized yet,
5:22 pm
and it's going to take a while. the bigger the area covered, the harder it is to get it organized. and it takes longer. so, as this storm develops along north carolina coast, it won't be fully developed. won't have all of those pieces coming together. but there is enough moisture and cold air to change any light rain, into snow. during the daytime hours on sunday. and as the storm is offshore, it stays relatively cold or if anything gets colder and we stay with the snow. here's a closer view, as we go through saturday night and into sunday morning, starts as rain in southern portions of the area. and there's the area of snow, the darker the blue, the heavier the snow and as you can see, this is hour after hour after hour. this is a new computer model just in. and very consistent with the last one. then as we go through the evening you can see the snow spreading down toward the shore.
5:23 pm
so there's a chance of at least a little accumulation, even in that area. so, how much accumulation is likely? we're likely to see just a little bit toward the shore. there's the time table, rain and snow in the morning, the best chance for accumulation is after dinnertime. there's the lightest amount of snow toward the shore. the greatest amounts north and west. even there it's not a huge snowstorm. it's just kind of late in the season. a chance of an early shower followed by clearing, 36 degrees for the low. during the day tomorrow, it's going to be chilly but not as windy as what we saw today. and the seven-day forecast, there's the winter storm on sunday, hours of snow, then hours of wind and cold on monday, and then we start warming up tuesday afternoon and get really warm later in the week. >> thanks, glenn. law enforcement giving support instead of jail time to drug

5:31 pm
glenn "hurricane" schwartz is tracking the changing conditions. >> what's the latest on the timing? >> some of the snow could start even before daybreak on sunday, but i think it would be melting as far as accumulating snow would take during the daytime hours especially later during the day sunday. we've got sunshine on the ben franklin bridge now. we have a mix of sun and clouds out there. and there's plenty of moisture on the way from missouri all the way down to the gulf of mexico. it's not organized obviously, as you can see. it's a large area. it will take a while to get organized and there's enough moisture so that as this storm develops it's going to pull moisture in from the atlantic, colder air comes down from the north and voila, you have snow. and we're going to have a number of hours of it as we go through the day on sunday and into sunday evening. so, could start overnight
5:32 pm
saturday night and mix of rain and snow, but that would mainly melt. temperatures should be well above freezing then. during the daytime hours, mostly melting as well. but as we get toward the latter portion of the day, the snow may get heavier, the temperature goes down a bit, may start to stick in parts of the area and most of the sticking is occurring during the evening hours. so, that is the one thing that we have to watch out for. we'll talk more about how much snow to expect and when it's going to end with the seven-day. >> we'll see you then. thanks. now to a live look from our cape may camera, looking good down there. nbc 10 reporter ted greenberg will have more on the impact our forecast is having on people at the beach this weekend. that's coming up at 5:55. remember, you can follow the changes of our forecast throughout the weekend by tapping the nbc 10 app. >> we've been following developing news out of europe all afternoon. a fugitive suspected in last year's paris attacks is now in custody.

5:34 pm
he was. raided it inside. then opened fire on abdeslam. injuring him, taking him and others into custody. this has been an important step for both french investigators and belgian authorities working closely together. u.s. officials congratulated them on this accomplishment. they said it dealt a blow to isis and said that the victims of the paris attacks will still be remembered. richard engel, nbc news, istanbul. >> for the latest on the raid and its impact stay here for "nbc nightly news" at 6:30 here on nbc 10. we have of course been following the ncaa tournament, our local teams had big games today. and we've been watching temple's game. >> very closely. you know the outcome from your husband and lauren mayk is joining us live where temple

top 10 warmest marches despite the snow on sunday. it's even warm at beach have within a land breeze. a few light showers up toward the poconos, the main action to the west. it's pretty disorganized but there's a lot of moisture with those things. and there is the coastal starm itself. as it moves offshore, pulls down enough cold air to produce snow. so we could be changing from rain to snow. the temperatures still marginal during the daytime hours, a lot of it would be melting, too, because of the time of year. so, it certainly could be worse. looks like it's going to be worse in new england than around here. close in we could see these temperatures are above freezing as we go into sunday morning. and even if we start with snow, it would be melting. there it is 1:00, we still see temperatures above freezing even in the snow areas. but those darker blues, that's indicating heavier snow and when

that happens, the visibility can get reduced, can get slippery at times. but that temperature is going to help us out a little bit because we're going to get hours and hours of this. you can see there we are, sunday, 5:00, sunday evening as the snowline goes down toward the shore. how much snow? less than one inch overall in kourn delaware, south jersey because of its mostly rain or melting. and mostly melting in the philadelphia area. points to the south and east limiting the amounts to 1 to 3 and 3 to 5 with mainly snow to the north and west. and we don't really see potential for a big, big storm because it's not going to come together fast enough. a chance of an early shower, then clearing 36 degrees for a low tonight. temperatures only in the 40s tomorrow. with light winds and then the snow comes in on sunday, windy and cold monday. cold tuesday morning but then look at the warm-up next week.

since the great recession - a good start. but too many families see the special interests gaining the upper hand in washington, while paychecks don't go far enough. if you work hard, your paycheck should show it; you earned social security - it should be there when you retire. and you shouldn't have to go broke to afford college.
