right now at 6:00 the official start of spring is hours away. but it's going to feel a lot more like winter. it's hard to see here but those are snow flakes we found falling in northern philadelphia this afternoon. good evening it was cloudy and rainy for most of today. there's a chance we could see more snow tomorrow. a rain and snow mix fell briefly in center city. this was the scene overlooking the city less than an hour ago. let's get a check of the forecast with violetta yas. it sounds like the wet weather will be more of a nuisance. >> there will be snow tomorrow night into monday. this will be a wet roads type of

events. we're talking rain tonight that could mix with a little bit sno snow. as we head into tomorrow, rain will once again develop and change to snow sunday night into monday. with that developing overnight at the poin temperatures will be cooler. it will be a wet roads type of event. we'll need to keep a close eye on that as we wrap up the weekend and head back to work on monday. we're talking wet roads. any accumulation likely to be on grassy surfaces. temperatures still well above normal 39 in philadelphia, 42 toward pottstown. coming up we'll take a closer look at the timing overthe course of the remainder of the weekend and how much snow we're talking about. to a developing story in south jersey, a stretch of black wood road is closed in camden

county because of this car crash. it appears they crashed head on here. we're working to find out whether anyone was hurt in the crash. again, a portion of bloackwood road remains closed. new at 6:00. good samaritan to the rescue in camden county. passers by pulled a man from his crashed and burning car. tonight one of the good samaritans is describing that rescue to us. nbc 10's george spencer talked to him. they got that driver out just in time. >> reporter: witnesses tell me the car fire really blew up moments after. that victim was driving this stretch of the road last night when he veered off and slammed into the large pine tree behind me. right now he's in critical condition, but he might not be alive at all if not for passers by willing to help.

camera captures what passers by saw last night. the mangled infinity wrapped around a tree and the glow of a fire and rising smoke with the driver trapped inside. this witness recognized the car as that of tyrone, here high school friend and neighbor. >> i was scared i know him. >> people was standing around but that were not approaching the car. >> reporter: he was driving past as most witnesses stood by stunned in the chaos. he stopped and grabbed an ax and began hitting the door. you can hear his whacks working to loosen the door as the fire burned inches away. >> proceeded to try to pry the door open. >> reporter: hammering with the ax? before medics arrived another good samaritan ripped out the

car window and three men together then fished him out through the driver's side. within moments the car went up in flames. >> the same time they took him out, the flames came up. >> reporter: firefighters doused the flames as the rescuers moved on with their lives. all in day's work for shaw, a former boy scout. >> i was trained that way. >> not everybody is going to be willing to risk their life to save somebody else. so, you know, god bless the man as well. >> reporter: investigators do not yet know what caused the crash, we're told that victim is on a vent latilator. reporting live from camden county. george spencer, nbc 10 news. stabbed with a screw driver and beaten with baseball bat that's what happened to a man in

philadelphia's kensington neighborhood this afternoon. police say the two attackers one with a gun tried to hide inside a tattoo parlor. police arrested one of the men. it's not clear if police are still searching for a second suspect. the pennsylvania spca rescued 17 dog and cats from filthy conditions inside a philadelphia home. nbc 10 on the scene on marsden street this morning. animal control officers removed 15 dogs and two cats. officers showed up after getting a tip from philadelphia police the animals were living in unsafe conditions. the spca calls it a case of animal hoarding. they're caring for all of the rescued animals. now, to breaking news decision 2016. nbc news reports donald trump's sister received a threatening letter in the mail yesterday. sources say the letter demanded trump drop out of the race. mary ann trump barry is a

federal appeals court judge in philadelphia. it appeared after the front runner's son received a suspicious piece of mail. dozens of protesters blocked traffic near a donald trump rally in arizona. demonstrators parked their cars in the middle of the road and chanted anti-trump slogans. this happened as trump spoke about immigration reform to thousands of supporters. >> the politicians are all talk, no action. they're never going to do anything. they only picked it up because when i went and when i announced i'm running for president i said, you know, this country has a big, big problem with illegal immigration. all of a sudden we started talking about it. >> arizona voters head to the polls tuesday. right now, texas senator ted cruz is rallying his supporters ahead of tuesday's republican caucuses in utah. cruz told the crowds that despite trump's lead he's

optimistic republicans will unite behind his campaign. fresh off his big win in ohio, john kasich is holding a town hall in saint george utah. you're looking at a live picture. he told supporters he's the best hope for supporters. democratic candidate bernie sanders vowed to fight for immigration reform. the senator made the remarks while visiting the u.s. mexico border in arizona. sanders is also scheduled to speak at a campaign rally in phoenix in just about an hour. and for complete election coverage, including the latest delegate counts and upcoming primaries, tap the nbc 10 app. tournament time is heating up. two local teams are moving on to the second round of the ncaa tournaments. both villanova and st. joe's will be back in action tomorrow.

today, the teams practiced for their next opponents, their fans enjoyed r&r before they fill the stands for game two. keith jones is live in brooklyn where he caught up with some still excited villanova fans. keeping busy, huh, keith? >> reporter: yes, they are. they got plenty to do here in the city that never sleeps. of course, behind me some of the sights they checked out, including the brooklyn bridge and the freedom tower. there was plenty to do for villanova fans and students and graduates. music echoes. bouncing off buildings. providing a chorus to new york city, the statue of liberty looking on in new york harbor, one of the many tourist attractions draw diagnose villanova fans. >> this is my first time in new york. we've been seeing the sights. >> reporter: and for this grad student, tears went out surrounded by villanovaens

bald eagle nest at the national arboretum started to hatch. you can see already some movement from the eaglet through this tiny crack. the first eaglet arrived yesterday. here's a live look at the national arboretum. the american eagle foundation which runs this nest camera, says the eaglet could take up to 12-48 hours to slowly emerge. there's mom and dad. there's a new view of north philadelphia today. why the look of the neighborhood is changing and what it means for the people who live there. well, what do you know on the last night of winter i'm tracking snow coming up we'll take a closer look at the timing and also snow amounts in my first alert seven-day forecast.

matter of seconds. nbc 10 spoke with former residents as they watched their old home crumble to the ground. >> reporter: 49 years of history. came crumbling down. in about ten seconds. >> it goes by quick. >> reporter: on lookers gathered at the crack of dawn to watch something they don't see every day. what do you think is going to happen? >> it's going to blow up. >> reporter: police and dogs went door to door, evacuating homes, and clearing the area. balloons, signal a celebration. but for some former tenants. >> 25th floor right there. >> reporter:ist it's bitter sweet. >> we was born and raised in these projects. >> reporter: for 49 years, the two blumburg apartment buildings were home to many. but fell into disrepair. >> poverty, crime, we have a

awards. several women were honored. many received scholarships. now your nbc 10 first alert weather. it was colder out there for us this afternoon. and i'm tracking snow on this last night of winter. again, for tonight, for the most part we're talking rain perhaps with wet snow flakes mixed in. again, the main system we're watching is for tomorrow into tomorrow night. rain will be changing into snow perhaps continuing into monday. we'll talk about that will affect your morning rush. we're talking warmer temperatures as we head into the middle of next week. cold right now. potts town looking dry. and wilmington with a rain snow mix. around 40 degrees. rain at the moment. again, temperatures still well above freezing in the 40s north and west. 39 in philadelphia, 36

wilmington. >> around 40 towards george town. you can see light snow mixing in here. lancaster, chester and delaware. we're looking at rain, some of that moving through atlantic city with some lighter rain towards parts of cumberland county. not looking impressive at the moment but the system will develop off the coast of the carolinas and lift to the north and east. after the initial band starts to move through. again, we're going to keep things relatively dry after midnight once the rain moves through. sunday morning looking dry. it's the afternoon we'll start to see the rain move in again. you can see temperatures well above freezing to the 40s for the most part in particular along the i-95. it's after sunset when the colder air starts to settle in. we'll see moisture switch over to snow, in particular along the i-95. i think that will be our better bet for the heavier bands of snow.

you can see that continues through much of the night sunday. we have 8:00 a.m. monday. maybe some lingering snow, in particular to the south of the city, delaware back into parts of southern new jersey before that starts to clear out as we head into monday afternoon. we're talking cold winds coming in out of the north and west. we'll be on the lower end of one to three inch range, perhaps up to an inch toward southern new jersey. northward, this may be a non-event up to the poconos, allentown. we're talking less than an inch. you saw the band sit along the i-95 corridor. again, for the most part we're talking accumulations on grassy surfaces with the snow starting to develop with colder temperatures we could see slick spots sunday night. for tonight, mostly rain and perhaps some wet snow, for the most part south and east of the city. cold for tomorrow with some rain developing, again, it will be after sunset with colder temperatures settling we'll see the snow start to develop.

one point behind the red wings for the final wild card spot. that was about all that went right for the flyers, michael noyburg was scheduled to start but didn't play. he said he quote, wasn't feeling right. second period, a one timer goes wide. somehow ends up in the net. off the board, that kind of afternoon for the flyers they fall 4-1. saint joe's plays a late night thriller against cincinnati and moved on to the second round. 10 seconds left, miles, st. joe's hits the rim. huge pass, catch and finish. but the dunk, it was after the buzzer. the ball still in his hands when the clock struck zero. st. joe's will face oregon.
