nbc 10 breaking news. this breaking news this morning, right now, multiple casualties are being reported frommen explosion, two explosions at a check-in area at the brussels airport. flight diverted. we're learning new information about the american airlines flight that had to make an emergency landing in boston. temperatures will begin to feel like spring today. let's begin with meteorologist sheena parveen with her first alert forecast, a chilly morning but a warmup, right? >> yesterday it felt like winter, windy all day. feeling like winter but this afternoon, warmer than yesterday was. 35 degrees in philadelphia, 30

allentown, 29 in pottstown. you'll want the heavy jacket this morning. it is cold outside. 26 in millville, 35 atlantic city. 32 in wilmington. we'll stay in the 30s through a good portion of the morning. once the sun comes up, we'll finally warm up a little bit. 7:00 a.m., in the lehigh valley, areas should be in the upper 20s, philadelphia, mid-30s, new jersey and delaware, mid-30s. by 2:00 this afternoon for the afternoon bus stop time we'll be back into about the low 50s through most of the area. we stay nice and dry today, not as windy as yesterday or as cold as yesterday either. we'll take a look at the rest of the afternoon forecast and also a big warmup as we go through the next few days.ç that's straight ahead. let's get a check of the roads with jessica boyington. we're watching through center city around the vine street expressway and 24th street. of course they just zoomed in this camera just a little bit. there's no traffic or volume

westbound or eastbound. you're good to go if you're getting to 95 or the schuylkill expressway this morning. here's 422. we're doing okay, still there, no increase in the drive times. eastbound is where we watch for the delay in the morning eastbound from an 8-minute trip 29 to the schuylkill expressway. average speeds into the 60s. mass transit, no problems or delays. i'll be back in the next ten with another check on your morning drive. reports of explosions at brussels international airport right now. we're hearing at least several people were killed in the blast. we're continuing to get new information, new pictures, video. nbc 10's katy zachry is following the breaking developments from the digital operations center. katy? >> tracy, this happened within the past hour. nbc news has confirmed there was an explosion at the check-in area of the airport. now, a security source at the airport tells us there are multiple casualties. the first pictures and video are just coming in to the nbc 10

newsroom. here's what we know right now. two explosions ripped through brussels airport during the morning rush there. we're told there were hundreds of passengers trying to check in at the time. a spokeswoman for the airport says passengers were evacuated on to the tarmac and that a first aid team is in place right now. she's urging other people planning to travel today not to come to the airport. now, the explosions are taking place days after the prime suspect in the paris attacks. salah abdeslam, who you saw there was arrested in brussels. meantime in europe, a new manhunt is under way for a suspect who may be linked to the paris attacks. investigators say they found dna belonging to najim laachraoui during a recent raid of explosions. he's an accomplice of salah abdeslam who was captured friday after four months on the run.

boston. at first, it said there was an unruly passenger. that wasn't the case. a woman was facing a medical condition. happening today, teachers wanted. the philadelphia school district is looking to hire 800 new teachers. and today the superintendent plans to talk to possible candidates. william hite will host a career information session. the early dead lane to apply is this friday. you can find more information on the nbc 10 app. it has a link to the school district's website. now to decision 2016. presidential front-runners will try to add to their delegate leeds when voters in three states cast their prime ares. there's a primary in arizona and caucus for both parties.

voters are changing political party affiliation ahead of the pennsylvania primary. for a complete list of decision 2016 coverage, including the latest delegate count and upcoming primaries and cautions, tap the nbc 10 app. second case of bacterial meningitis in our a area. the rutgers university student aattends the new brunswick campus was hospitalized on friday. rutgers health officials say they are notifying anyone who had close contact with the student so they can get started on antibiotics. they urge any student or staff who feel symptoms like a stiff neck, a rash or vomiting to see a doctor right away. you may recall a philadelphia high school student died of bacterial meningitis last week. it is the city's first meningitis death this year. 4:07. deldot and other transportation officials will honor a group of delaware toll workers for their

here you see a feels like winter outside this morning. this afternoon it's not going to be as cold as it was yesterday afternoon. temperatures will quickly climb into the 40s. by lunch time, we should be near 50 degrees by the afternoon topping out in about the mid-50s. yesterday. the warmup is starting with today. live look at satellite and radar. we're dry and we'll stay like this as we go through the afternoon. freezing temperatures with the morning hours but, again, we'll start to warm up through the afternoon and into thursday. that's when the 70s return. we're talking about 70 degree temperatures wednesday and into thursday. but then we go into friday, the rain moves in. it will stay mild, temperatures in the 60s as we go into friday with the rain. the rain once it moves through will cool us down. excuse me. going into saturday. then going into your easter sunday, everything looks pretty good. temperatures back into the 60s. a fairly nice weekend in store for you for your easter sunday. a minimum of sun and clouds for

today. not as cold or windy as it was temperatures topping out in the mid-50s. it will be a nice afternoon today. we keep on warming up tomorrow, i'll show you that seven-day forecast coming up. 4:10 right now. this is about the time you head out the door, let's check the roads for you, including the schuylkill expressway. jessica boyington has that. >> we are watching the schuylkill right now. no problems so far this morning. right around montgomery drive. you can see no problem in both directions. a great drive time, eastbound from the blue route to the vine street expressway. a 13-minute trip right now. speed well into the 60s. the blue route, also no problem still. of course it's still early to find any of that added volume on the road, southbound from the schuylkill to 95 is still a 15-minute trip. a much different snow than yesterday. we had snow falling down in this camera yesterday morning about the same time. this is the garden state parkway. nice and dry right around the great egg toll plaza in summer's point. watch for construction in new

jersey also. still taking out lanes on route 70 westbound between 295 and westgate drive. that's scheduled until march 27th. we continue to follow breaking news from brussels international airport. several people are reported dead after at least two explosions. the video from the scene shows emergency crews tending to people as smoke pours from shattered windows. it's been evacuated, the airport. the explosions happened about an hour ago as people were checking into their flight. stay with nbc 10 and the nbc 10 app for updates on this breaking story. two and a half weeks and counting until atlantic city government closes its doors. we'll explain what that means for city workers, including police. i'm matt delucia, live in university city. it's colorectal cancer awareness month. we'll hear from a one who says she shouldn't have waited.

4:14. we want to update breaking news from brussels international airport. several people are reported dead after at least two explosions. all flights in and out of the airport are being diverted. the airplane has been evacuated. the explosions were reported about an hour ago as people were checking in. stay with nbc 10 and the nbc 10 app for updates on this breaking story. now from our jersey shore bureau, atlantic city on the brink of bankruptcy plans to shut down city hall from april 8th till early may. closing city government will mean no pay for employees. city services like trash pickup would also greened to a halt.

the mayor says vital operations such as police and fire will continue but those personnel would be working for no pay. we spoke to a volunteer at city hall who told us workers are afraid of missing a paycheck. >> i think three weeks we can take it but after that it's really bad. >> i'm worried about people who pay mortgages, people who pay rent and have children. >> all employees would get back pay. financial bailout burt only if the city agrees to a state takeover. a sewaouth jersey woman believes she could be facing a griff prognosis if it were not from her family. >> reporter: colorectal cancer awareness month is what we're in for march. there are no obvious signs in

the early stages of this cancer. so peg turned 50 this past year. she had no intentions of getting a colon oscopcolonoscopy. but after urging from her family, she had one. according to the american society of colorectal surgeons, 145,000 people will be diagnosed with colorectal cancer and 56,000 people will die from the disease. >> the problem would have been in i would have let it go, i would have ended up with cancer. i am so thankful that i'm s sitting here saying it was taken care of. >> reporter: colonoscopies are recommended for men and women ages 50 to 75. peg is working to convince her friends and followers on social media to get a colonoscopy of

their own. coming up at 5:15, what meg went through and why she says waiting would be a much worse alternative. live in university city, matt delucia, nbc 10 news. >> thank you for that story. vice president joe biden is considering his moon shot initiative to cure cancer. he toured a facility yesterday. you're looking at a visit to penn abrahamson. biden lost his son beau to brain cancer last year. the issue of human rilgs will be front and center as president obama meets with dissidents in cuba. the meeting will continue a visit of historic firsts. president obama met face-to-face with president raul castro on cuban soil yesterday. the president said there are still very serious differences between the countries on democracy and human rights but he pledged to move forward with normalizing relations.

farook. if this works, the government would no longer need apple's help. now your nbc 10 first alert weather with meteorologist sheena parveen. >> it's a cold start to the morning. feels like winter across the area, because we're in the 20s and 30s. as we go through this week, we'll have a big warmup in the forecast. temperatures in the 70s a couple days. then we go into friday and by the end of the week we have showers returning. have your umbrella ready for your friday and then that brings us to the easter forecast so far. not looking too bad. temperatures this morning, they'll want the heavy coat. 30 degrees allentown, 29 in pottstown, 35 philadelphia, freezing in wilmington. 32 degrees there. 35 atlantic city and millville, the coldest spot there on the map in new jersey. 26 degrees. it is a cold start. the normal high this time of year, that's 54 degrees. i mentioned that warmup coming. take a look. today we expect mid-50s. not as cold as yesterday. tomorrow around 70 degrees, then we go into thursday.

we're looking at a high around 73 degrees. so nice warmup before the rain comes. for today, not as cold as yesterday as we go through the afternoon. by lunch time today, temperature around 50 degrees. we'll see a mix of sun and clouds. not as windy as yesterday. still breezy through the afternoon. temperatures in the mid-50s with that mix of sun and clouds around. so a nice afternoon today. the warmup continues tomorrow and for the rest of the week. locally, though, we're nice and dry. we'll stay that way as we go through next few days, too. another look at the warmup, your seven-day forecast and your easter sunday straight ahead. 20 minutes past 4:00 right now. let's take a look at your ride to work this morning. jessica boyington has that. she's watching 295. what are you seeing there, jessica? >> we're seeing great drive times. this is right around 130 in deptford, west deptford, actually, southbound from the 42 freeway headed to the delaware memorial bridge. we have to get over the bridge there, you'll be just fine.

average speeds into the 60s. we're still atç a 23-minute tr. 78 around route 100. some more cars on the roads here. no backups, problems or road work in the area. new castle, delaware, on ramp closed from route 13 northbound right around 295. no problems at least, north or southbound, an 11-minute trip from 295 to 495. speeds averaging 59 miles an hour. cfx and local agencies will hold a safety blitz today. officials from the freight company, deldot and police plan to talk to drivers and pedestrians in newark about railroad dangers. they include warnings about ignoring crossing signals and cutting across train tracks. 4:21. seven women suing bill cosby for defamation win a legal victory.

moments ago, the terror level in before usle was raised to its highest level. in just the past few minutes, we learned that all flights in and out of the airport are canceled and diverted. the explosions were reported around 3:00 a.m. at a security checkpoint. we're continuing to get new information from the scene, new video and pictures. stay with nbc 10 and the nbc 10 app for updates on this breaking story. at the jersey shore, travelers are being warned to arrive extra early for flights out of atlantic city international airport. the problem is a shortage of tsa staff. transportation security workers have also had their hours cut, which has added to delays. airport officials warn it is best to get to the airport two hours before domestic flights and three hours early for international travel. 4:25. 36 degrees outside. today the villanova men's basketball team hits the road to the sweet 16. jay wright's team is scheduled to leave campus for louisville
