nbc 10 breaking news. and our breaking news this morning, pentagon officials say u.s. special forces have killed isis' second in command. defense secretary ash carter made the announcement just minutes ago. officials believe the isis leader was killed during a raid in syria earlier this month. now, his death comes after another top isis commander was killed in a u.s. air strike in syria around that same time. carter says the deaths are a victory for the u.s.-led coalition taking out the biggest names on the u.s. terror hit list. and belgium state prosecutor says two blasts were heard during police raids in a brussels district. meanwhile authorities have confirmed two new york siblings were among those killed when bombs exploded at the brussels

airport tuesday. the pair were dutch nationals who had lived in the u.s. for quite some time. french officials say intelligence agents arrested a man in a paris suburb who has connections to the suspected ringleader of the paris attacks. officials reportedly say the man was in the, quote, advanced stages of plotting an attack somewhere in france. nbc national correspondent steve handlesman has an update from belgium. >> reporter: good day from brussels where three days after the terror attacks the focus remains on the human loss. this memorial in brussels still drawing tens of thousands of belgians with word today that two young new yorkers are among the 31 people murdered by the terrorists. they were from new york city. they had flown here, they were on the phone to their mom, the mom says, when there was a loud noise and the phone went dead. a tragedy. two americans at least are reported missing and still unaccounted for.

>> i offer our deepest condolences to the people of belgium and to all of the families, all those individuals who have suffered inconceivable loss in the last few days. >> reporter: the good news u.s. secretary of state john kerry is now in brussels conferring with the belgians who want to work with the french, the americans and other european nations in a more coordinated crackdown on isis terror. from brussels, steve handlesman, nbc news. french police carried out a raid on an apartment building in a paris suburb this morning. the raid followed that arrest of a suspect who was allegedly in the advanced stages of planning an attack there. investigators are continuing to search the apartment building for clues. well, for the first time we are hearing from one of the three utah missionaries who was injured in tuesday's bombing in brussels. 19-year-old mason well suffered second and third-degree burns in the airport explosions.

>> saw fire from my face and on the ground around me. i know that the burns came from that. my body kind of lifted off of the ground during the first blast, very loud. >> wells was in paris when that city was attacked in november. he was also in boston to watch his mother run the marathon in 2013 when the star nevada broth -- tsarnaev brothers set off deadly bomb at the finish line. people picking up food for their easter weekend watched a stabbing happen in the entranceway to a philadelphia bakery this morning. officers are trying to track down the man who did it. nbc 10's drew/[?os smith is liv us in the city's olney section. drew, police closed the building down to investigate this, right? >> reporter: yeah, they still have it closed right now. witnesses tell us one of the customers was right outside the colomb colombian bakery here, that's when he was stabbed. investigators had to rope off the entrance. bakery workers were kept inside but no one else allowed in.

not good timing as customers came to pick up easter orders. it is a big day for the bakery. they're even advertising it in the windows. detectives spent the morning looking around for evidence, they interviewed some people. witnesses on the scene spoke only to nbc 10 and said the man with the knife ran off. they believe there was a brief verbal fight before the violence. >> the guy coming outside he started like put the knife on your body, you know what i'm saying. >> reporter: we got a look at some of the surveillance video that bakery workers were playing for detectives. you can see there's a 58-year-old man sitting there amongst a bunch of other customers who came out to help him. he was holding a stab wound to his stomach. he was rushed off to the hospital. we're told he's in stable condition. police have not yet tracked down the suspect or the knife used in this, but you can see there are several cameras out here on the scene. so police are expected that that will help lead them to who this

is. we're live in olney, drew smith, nbc 10 news. drew, thank you. a 16-year-old girl is hurt after a stray bullet hit her while she stood in front of her own home. it happened in hunting park just before midnight. police say the girl was not the intended target. she is listed in stable condition this morning. now your nbc 10 first alert weather. well, if you've been outside this morning, then you probably have noticed it's been wet, windy and on the warmer side today. you will need your rain gear if you're headed out any time soon. here's a live look at market street in center city philadelphia. a little gray and gloomy, but hopefully that will change. similar conditions at the shore. here's a live look from our camera in cape may. and the man who has all the info on if this is going to change is nbc 10 first alert meteorologist bill henley. hi, bill. >> hey, katy. it's going to be changing all day. the windy and warm conditions will stay with us. the rain at the shore and farther inland are on the move. these rain showers a little

up on the roads. >> that's right. well, katy, we do have less traffic on the roads for sure because there's lots of people taking a three-day weekend, a lot of kids off from school. but with the rain starting to fall we're starting to see a few accidents pop up. here's one in the lehigh valley around 78 around lehigh street. it's been there for about 45 minutes or so. traffic still getting through the area, but you can see that police presence there on the scene. now, the falls bridge has reopened. it's been closed with emergency repair work for the last two months. this is some good news also here. again, reopened. the race street is also closed this morning between fifth and fourth street. that's going to be there until about 3:00 p.m. that's from that earlier building collapse this week. it's now going to be a building demolition. that will be there again until 3:00 p.m. this afternoon. now, amtrak's northeast corridor, if you take train 185 from new york penn station to washington a pedestrian was actually stuck -- struck by one of the trains near chester. so all amtrak and septa traffic is at a halt right now. you may see some delays. as for more delays at the

philadelphia international airport, we're not doing too bad, but there is a traffic management program in effect due to weather and low ceilings for arriving flights. you want to check before you go. katy. jes ka, thank you. a juvenile justice officer is accused of dealing drugs near a new jersey school. berkeley internship police say she was about to sell heroin near bayview elementary when they arrested her. they found more heroin on her, plus cocaine, scales and cash at her home. they don't believe she was selling drugs while working at the toms river juvenile detention center. yes, it is tournament time. and tournament time is not over yet for villanova. the wildcats are still dancing this morning after crushing the miami hurricanes in the sweet 16. here's what it looked like before the game as fans who traveled to louisville, kentucky greeted the team. it was a dominating win over the miami hurricanes 92-69 was the

and governor chris christie has said he will only sign bills that allow the state to fix the broken casino tax collection system. but the mayor still wants an $8.5 million temporary loan from new jersey. >> how long can we last? not long. for three weeks we make it, may 2nd, second quarter taxes come in, it will only be a matter of weeks, not months, before we run out of money again. >> police, fire and trash collection services will continue. and some city employees have volunteered to work for ious from the city. others will sit home and collect unemployment. well, u.s. congressman chaka fattah is intent on keeping his seat out of the hands of four challengers. the candidates debated in center city last night. fattah faces challengers dwight evans, republican james jones among them. >> i've said i am completely innocent.

welcome back. it's 11:15. happening now, friends and family are gathering for memorial services for a maryland police officer and delaware county native who was killed in the line of duty. detective colson died during an unprovoked attack on law enforcement. people stood in line yesterday to get in to a viewing for the prince georges county officer. and today's memorial services colson's friends and loved ones will gather again for his funeral monday. he'll be buried in his native delaware county. colson graduated from chie chester high school in 2005. he was a member of student council and an athlete. he was killed earlier this month after a man entered a police station and started shooting. it turned out bullets from a fellow officer actually killed detective colson. well, this morning hollywood is remembering comedian garry

different than what you'll experience for today. 58 degrees in mt. pocono. starting to see breaks in the clouds. little sunshine in the pocono mountains. seen some showers, 62 degrees but some breaks in the clouds there. look at the wind blowing the lake. we've seen some blue sky break through the clouds every so often. you'll see more of that this afternoon. the wind gave us the warmup to start with. 24-mile-an-hour wind gusts in philadelphia. but they're starting to shift, the winds, they're toot west now for the pennsylvania suburbs. and that's going to get the showers out of here and also put a lid on our temperatures and change things for the weekend. here's a line of showers we're watching and also showers and thunderstorms offshore. the heaviest rainfall is offshore. there's a slight chance we'll see some thunderstorms pop up in delaware and south jersey. and then there, right there, that's your weekend. it will be clearing out. we'll see plenty of sunshine. for today though still have a few showers in the area.

the pocono mountains will be dry the rest of the afternoon, 60 degrees. 68 for allentown and 66 for reading this afternoon. with breaks of sunshine this afternoon once the rain moves out, trenton and mt. holly will warm to 70, 69 degrees in norristown. and clouds will linger at the shore with some occasional mainly light showers. but there could be a brief heavy downpour for cape may, vineland and dover. inland though the showers will move through then we'll get some breaks of sunshine. so low 70s for wilmington, drexel hill and philadelphia. but the winds will be with us through the day. the showers will not. showers taper off, windy and warm, 60s and 70s today with winds gusting to 30 miles an hour. those westerly winds will bring us a cooler weekend, but still really nice for march. 62 degrees saturday afternoon after a morning low of 39. plenty of sunshine saturday, and a nice sunny start to easter. sunshine and 64 degrees sunday afternoon. clouds will be building later on sunday. that will lead to showers likely

quite some time. investigators are still trying to identify everyone who was killed. nbc's erica hill has more on the victims. >> reporter: since the terror attack tuesday, alexander and sascha have been among the dozens of victims whose fate was unknown. the siblings were on the phone with relatives when two bombs exploded in the brussels airport. their family like so many others struggling to find any information about their loved ones. belgium's privacy laws prevent family members and even consulate officials to visit the hospital without the patient consent. then late thursday hospital officials shared the names of the patients they were treating with the families. the pinczowskis releasing this statement, the belgian authorities tonight provided to the families a list of the names of all the remaining victims of the tragedy of march 22nd who were alive. the state department admits it

too is struggling to gain information. >> it's still i know two days later very fluid, we're still trying to get accurate information. >> reporter: justin and stephanie schultz last seen dropping her mom at the airport. two individuals associated with people who work for the u.s. government remain unaccounted for this morning. cara, an american trainer living in belgium was also at the airport tuesday. a friend confirmed she is in critical but stable condition. about a dozen americans are known to have been injured including mormon missionaries richard, joseph and mason wells, all still in the hospital. in total more than 120 people are being treated including 20-year-old banny who suffered serious burns to her head and hands. [ speaking in a foreign language ] it sounded like the end of the world in one second, she said. i found myself on the ground and there was ash everywhere. doctors describe the injuries as similar to those in a war zone.

and we continue to follow more breaking news, this time here at home. a stabbing at a philadelphia bakery. one man is injured in a spot where so many people shop for their easter meal is now a crime scene. nbc 10's drew smith has been gathering details on this story for us. he joins us live again from logan with an update. hi, drew. >> reporter: yeah, katy, no arrests so far. but we do know police are working to try to figure out the identity of a man who plunged a knife into a customer outside the colombian bakery. you can see workers are beginning to clean up that area where police just cleared the crime scene. meanwhile customers have been out of luck trying to get inside to get what they need for easter weekend. this all happened shortly before 9:00 this morning here on north fifth street. several witnesses say there was some sort of argument. a 58-year-old man then got stabbed in the stomach. other customers came out to help him as the attacker ran away down the block. >> tried to stop but i see the

through moving through wilmington and philadelphia right now and into the trenton area. but there are some breaks in that precipitation, so there's still a chance of some showers as we go into the early afternoon hours. but not much more than that. clouds over the city, 71 degrees at 1:00. some spotty showers in delaware and south jersey at that hour by 4:00 most of the rain in the entire region is done. 72 degrees, some breaks of sunshine in philadelphia and by 7:00 this evening we'll start to cool down. notice the winds too. they are in the process of shifting, a cold front is coming through. the northwesterly winds will drop the temperature not just at 7:00 but also for the weekend, which means changes for easter morning. i've got a close up look at that when i come back in just a few minutes, katy. all right. bill, thank you. well, the battle between republican presidential candidates donald trump and ted cruz is turning increasingly personal as the candidates' wives have become a campaign topic. nbc's peter alexander has the latest on the republican race.

primaries and caucuses, tap the nbc 10 app. well, indiana authorities found a body that matches the description of a missing 1-year-old girl. thursday night searchers found a body matching little girl in a remote area near the city of gosport. she had disappeared from her father's home in spencer, indiana, early wednesday. police took a 22-year-old family friend named kyle parker into custody in connection with the case. an autopsy to positively identify the toddler's body and the cause of death will be conducted later today. former philadelphia eagle kevin turner lost his battle with lou gehrig's disease. turner died yesterday, but not before he brought national attention to the dangers of head injuries in sports. turner played for the eagles in the late '90s. doctors diagnosed him with als in 2010. turner believed years of hits to his head caused that diagnosis, so he led a lawsuit against the nfl regarding the league's handling of concussions.

now, over the past few years he talked about the fight facing athletes and his own personal health battle. >> there's no way to compensate for, you know, not seeing my daughter getting married or my boys graduate. >> kevin turner was 46 years old. a police pursuit in arizona took some twists and turns. officers chased the driver of this stolen pickup truck through the streets of mesa. at one point the driver got out and brawled with a motorcycle rider and possibly it seemed that he was trying to steal the motorcycle. the driver then got back in his pickup and took off again before finally rolling over on an interstate. officials say the crash threw the driver from the vehicle. he was taken into custody. a police dash cam recorded two officers rescuing a man from a burning car. the suv had reportedly hit several cars on a bryant,

arkansas highway before crashing into the center wall and catching fire. twot officers say the driver inside would not cooperate and get out of the car. so they dragged him to safety. the man was not seriously injured, but he was arrested on several charges. that could make you shiver. tens of thousands of texas bees have a new home this morning. a pest control worker removed a large hive that had formed inside the exterior panelling of a west houston home. the hive contained about 50,000 bees and 50 pounds of honey. bee experts say the mild weather in the area is making the bees particularly active, so they suspect this will be an even busier than normal year for pest control and beekeepers. well, a new federal study says drones will keep soaring in popularity for the foreseeable future. the faa report estimated the number of drone purchases for hobbies and personal use will more than double from about 2

weather with meteorologist bill henley. >> ten minutes away from lunchtime and we're still seeing lots of clouds, but there have been a few breaks, little bit of sunshine is getting through. but there's still some showers in the area. look at the wind blowing. we've seen gusts of 30 miles an hour in the region. philadelphia international reporting some light rain right now, 69 degrees. and the winds have started to move. they're now out of the southwest at 15 miles an hour. that direction is shifting to become more westerly this afternoon and northwesterly. and that will bring us cooler weather as we head into tonight. pocono mountains, well, in and out of the clouds. you can still see some clouds over camelback, but some blue sky is peeking through. and as we go into the afternoon hours we'll see more and more of that sunshine. 16-mile-an-hour winds. now coming out of the west for the pocono mountains still some strong southerly or southwesterly winds in delaware and south jersey keeping temperatures warm. there are the breaks in the clouds. allentown, berks county seeing a good deal of sunshine right now. clouds are still over philadelphia and most of new

jersey though some breaks in ocean county. line of showers moving through philadelphia, wilmington, new castle county into salem county doesn't look very impressive. just some spotty showers there. and barely coming down in philadelphia, south philadelphia seeing a few sprinkles. looking a little more impressive now in cape may county, northern cape may county, this is the line moving across delaware bay. and the heaviest rainfall fortunately that's staying offshore where we've seen some thunderstorm activity. so still some showers. the hour by hour forecast shows by 2:00 the rain is pretty much done for pennsylvania and clearing out of delaware too. there's still a chance of an isolated popup shower, really just a sprinkle at 4:00 this afternoon when it's sunshine and some breaks of sunshine for delaware and south jersey, by this evening the showers move out completely. the clouds break out and we'll see the temperatures start to fall, which will clear the way for a pretty nice easter forecast. easter morning we'll see lots of sunshine, a few thin clouds, chilly to start with. 42 degrees at 7:00.

by 9:00, 45 and 50 degrees by 11:00. but that's sunday morning. this morning we still have a few showers that will continue into the afternoon hours, but the showers will clear out. windy and warm for the rest of the day with temperatures in the upper 60s and low 70s. tomorrow nothing but sunshine and a little chillier in the morning, 39 degrees, up to 62 in the afternoon. nice warmup for easter sunday with that sunshine 64 degrees. and clouds coming through sunday night and a chance, pretty good chance that we'll see some showers. showers are likely on monday, monday morning into monday afternoon followed by wind and cooler readings for tuesday. but that's normal for the end of march. 57 degrees tuesday afternoon. come wednesday back into the 60s and closer to 70 with late day showers on thursday. we'll be right back.
