5:18 pm
chester county and berks county until 6 p.m. we've seen the area of the severe storm getting trimmed but it is approaching parts of chester county now. coatesville on the edge of that heavy rain. it's mostly moving to the northeast, around about 60 miles an hour. this is a fast-moving thunderstorm. so pottstown you can expect by 5:33, limerick 5:42. and norristown closer to 6:00. so a lot of heavy rain in this thunderstorm, but again, it's a quick mover. winds could gust near 60 miles an hour. those are damaging wind speeds, also some lightning possible, heavy rain and the potential for small hail. we'll watch this one as it continues moving mostly from west to east. and it has a little bit of a northeast motion too so i think some of that will move into upper montgomery county here soon too. also more showers and storms trying to develop to the west of baltimore, and this whole area is going to come together and move into the philadelphia area soon too. now we're looking at parts of
5:19 pm
upper bucks county, heavy rain here, richland seeing rachblt we have heavy downpours and it's pretty gusty outside. winds are gusting near 30 miles an hour through parts of the area. along with these storms moving through and the warm temperatures near 80 degrees, it's going to help these storms hold together into the philadelphia area a little after 6:00 this evening. so, in the next hour or so, we should see storms in the philadelphia area. this is future weather, these storms are going to continue to move up the i-95 corridor by about 6:00 p.m. even areas around wilmington could see showers or storms by then. 7:00 p.m., most of the rain should be confined into new jersey, maybe even delaware at that point. but later on tonight a lot of this will be clearing out. now we go into your weekend and some rain starts to move back in. this is saturday morning we're looking at now. some showers moving into new jersey and delaware, some of that could certainly move into the philadelphia area. so we'll be watching that closely to start your weekend. even by the middle of the day
5:20 pm
saturday, models have been pretty consistent with bringing rain back in from offshore. we're going to see developing storm system so that's going to increase our winds as we go later in the day saturday and early monday. we have a high wind watch out for saturday into early sunday, mostly later in the day saturday, winds could be gusting from 50 to 60 miles an hour. those are damaging wind gusts, these are the types of wind that we do see in severe thunderstorms that end up causing damage. so, it is going to get windy right over the middle part of your week so keep that in mind. don't be surprised. it's going to be very gusty. then we'll get colder on top of that into sunday. tonight early showers each thunderstorms around temperatures staying in about the mid to low 50s. tomorrow to start the weekend showers, mostly new jersey and delaware but again the philadelphia area i think seeing some rain too. high winds start to develop later in the day tomorrow, high temperatures only about the mid to low 60s. so tomorrow you'll notice it will get cooler. by sunday morning lows in the

5:30 pm
that her son died hours later. police are not sure if she was pregnant. they are trying to confurm that. right now she is being held on $500,000 cash bail at the montgomery county prison. the question many people have been asking is how could this happen? today nbc 10's aundrea cline-thomas spoke with the mother. >> she says she has never been to the mall before and she thought it would be a way to get fresh air with her newborn and toddler. >> she was saying she was depressed and wanted to get out and something i could relate to. my other child was beside me but he was cranky and crying because he was ready to go. he'd beenen the mall all day. he was sleepy. i was trying to comfort that one while he was -- and when i turned my back for a second i didn't even have a chance to wipe the food off his face and my son was gone. >> the search lasted five hours,
5:31 pm
and the baby was safely returned to her mom -- to his mom. when they found the baby he had been given a bath and new pajamas. >> it could have happened to almost any mother. >> lauren mayk is joining us with a closer look how this all unfolded and what can be done to keep the public safe. >> this was all out in the open, a very busy mall. you probably have been there. let me show you this is the plaza side here. let me walk you through what police tell us happened. they were over here when the mother tells police that she and her family met with suspect who struck up a conversation. they were here in front of the pandora, then walked over this way. the family starts to walk away. the mom says that the woman followed them and eventually end up here over at the food court that you saw. and that's when police say the woman picked up the baby and went upstairs, that's not very far away from the food court here but went up the stairs here
5:32 pm
and then what happened next is what you have seen here on this surveillance video. this is an outside camera that catches this as the suspect walks out with this baby. so, this is such an important image and we went to take a closer look at why we have it. >> inside the cameras are all around, we noticed them today at king of prussia mall. it's one outside that caught a key image that helped bring a little boy home. >> this camera is up top covering the exit. >> michael hall is owner of engage security and a former police officer. >> probably would be surprised at how many cameras there are in a mall, and the banks of cameras and the people who are looking at them. >> we watched the surveillance video released by sles ples. >> when a security professional looks it's never good enough for us. we're like my god i want that to be clear but it was good enough. got the job done. >> good video is key. and he tells me this image can
5:33 pm
be helpful both in identifying a suspect and in building a case. >> she clearly has it in her possession. you can see what she has on, you can see what the baby or the image of the baby has. >> for parents that's why he says it's important to have an updated photo of your child and fingerprints or footprints. parents, malls and police hope they never have to encounter this, but hall was impressed. >> this is definitely a success. and so they did a lot of things right. >> that security expert has one more tip for parents. the one thing your child should always be wearing -- shoes. he said an abductor will probably change the child's clothes but maybe not the shoes. it is one more thing that can help police. lauren mayk, "nbc 10 news." >> never have thought of that. a lot of people say they didn't receive an amber alert about the baby's abduction until hours
5:34 pm
after the infant went missing. police responded around 5:43 but the amber alert wasn't sent until around 9:30, nearly four hours difference. an executive producer here recorded this video when he got the alert on his cell phone. the time on the phone shows 9:38. last night. today the police chief was asked what took so long. >> i know that the amber alert went out through the police department went out to all surrounding jurisdictions in montgomery county went out in the first few minutes. >> the chief said authorities are looking into why it took so long for some people to receive that alert. and nbc 10 was the first to alert you about this kidnapping. if you want to get breaking news as it happens, you should download the nbc 10 app. >> right now at 5:00, nbc 10 is tracking rain and possible storms. right here on the first alert radar. they seem to be getting closer. >> some of that is moving into
5:35 pm
our area? >> yes, you can see our skyline has changed outside. if you saw the sun shine a little bit ago in the philadelphia area you're not seeing it now. we have storms quickly approaching. these are the ones we were trauking earlier in lancaster county. they were severe thunderstorms but either way at this point not technically severe but still strong over pottstown heavy rain, moving into upper montgomery county, also near coatesville and across 76 here in parts of chester county. this is heavy rain shown by the red and precip rates are a little over five inches an hour possibly. that's radar indicated precip rates. they are not sitting in one spot for an hour. they are moving pretty quickly so i don't expect that we could see any type of flooding from this. certainly heavy rain in a short period of time could cause some localized flooding. this line is mostly moving to the east and northeast. very quickly around about 50 to 60 miles an hour. it's a quick mover. norristown expect by 5:49,
5:36 pm
wilmington near 6:00. philadelphia, a little after 6:00 p.m. and trenton closer to 6:20. that line is going to be moving again into the major interstates, just around the time of the evening commute. so we do have a lot of heavy rain in this direction. we're also watching more showers right around baltimore and those are still moving in our direction. temperatures, though, are warm enough to be supporting the rain. upper bucks county now where we're looking a lot of the rain has moved out but still moderate to heavy showers around bedminster. we go through the rest of the evening here is future weather. we continue watching the rain move through, and as we go into 6:00 p.m. still scattered showers, even thunderstorms possible, some of these could be strong and we're still looking at potentially heavy rainfall and gusty winds. we'll take a closer look at the rest of the forecast with the storms for this evening. and also more rain as we go into your weekend. >> right now 5:00, a shooting in a wilmington bar early this morning killed a man and injured another. happened inside the shades of blue bar and grill on governor
