6:16 pm
a lot of the storms still to the north and to the west of philadelphia but we're still watching the one in parts of upper bucks county. the severe thunderstorm warning has expired but we're still seeing areas of heavy rain just to the south of bedminster entering solbury and also high winds expected and lightning in this cluster of thunderstorms near hilltown. precip rates about 2.5 inches so not as heavy as earlier. but we're still seeing that heavy rain nonetheless. even in parts of montgomery county, hatfield, norristown, 476 approaching the p.a. turnpike this is still heavy rain. so i'm sure visibility in these areas very low traffic moving slow but again, we've seen the hail with this storm when it was severe earlier about 10, 20 minutes ago that's when we had hail size over an inch. golf ball-size hail. that hail track extended from 476 in montgomery county through east rock hill township, bedminster and we're not seeing
6:17 pm
as much in this storm system but it really shows you what it was capable of. here's a look higher up in the atmosphere at the core of the storm. at one point it was over 40,000 feet in the atmosphere. that causes it to be cold muff to produce hail like we saw. we'll look around and see still the height of some of these storms, we're seeing some of these weaken from what we had earlier. so now if we watch that trail of storms it extends through northern delaware. if we look down the trail of storms they are not as high. so in these areas there's less of a chance for hail but we are still seeing some locally heavy rainfall. so now we are looking through parts of new castle county and northern delaware. near wilmington, heavy rain, 495, kennett square, seeing heavy rain, also lower montgomery county now we have heavy rain approaching glenside will see that soon. and it is still approaching the philadelphia area. so if we track this line of showers with some thunderstorms still the potential for storms as they move through. we'll see it approaching the
6:18 pm
philadelphia area, close to 6:30. gloucester 6:44, washington township 6:46. so they are moving quickly around 50 miles an hour which means they should be moving out quickly too. future weather showing the storms around by about 7:00 p.m. so only an hour or so from now. storms moving through the philadelphia area, but still potentially across parts of bucks county, even trenton. a lot of these could be losing energy quickly as we get closer to 8, 9:00 this earning. much better than what we see now on the radar. but then as we go into your saturday, starting off your weekend, we have rain moving in. this is saturday morning, 8:00 in the morning. south jersey and delaware you'll be seeing it first. i wouldn't be surprised if we had rain starting off the day in philadelphia and it could even stretch up farther north and west. so rain for your saturday morning. as we go later into the day saturday and into sunday, that's when we have high winds moving in and we're talking about potentially damaging wind gusts. we're in a high wind watch for
6:19 pm
the ep tire area, 50 to 60-mile-an-hour winds possible. later saturday into early sunday. don't be surprised if you walk out and you get a very strong gust of wind. those are damaging so be careful as we go later to the middle part of your weekend. tonight early showers, even storms around, temperatures only dropping to the mid to low 50s, a mild evening. then tomorrow, morning showers, high winds developing later in the day. high temperatures much cooler mid to low 60s, and then we're colder as we go into sunday with that high wind. morning lows in the 30s, afternoon highs about the mid to upper 40s, next week though we have a lot of stuff in the seven-day forecast. a clipper system moving through on monday. that will mostly be rain but then into early tuesday some of that could be changing over to snow. >> reporter: i'm john clark live in houston texas, villanueva villanova preparing to play in a football stadium. we'll talk about that next.
