this area this afternoon. here's a live look right now at center city philadelphia. expect temperatures in the 60s today before much colder weather moves through. good morning, this is "nbc 10 news today," i'm katy zachry. it is 4:01 on your monday. a lot colder it felt this morning than it should for spring, right, meteorologist bill henley? >> 43 degrees right now. there's a little bit of wind to start with this morning. that will be increasing during the day. we're tracking snow showers right now in the pocono mountai mountains. just to the south, light snow is moving towards allentown. you might see snowflakes but as far as sticking it's out of the question. but the pocono mountains, a different story. it's in the 20s right now. that snow is sticking in mount pocono, 27 degrees. low 40s for reading. you might see snow flakes but it shouldn't be an issue. 42 degrees in philadelphia and dry at this hour. hour by hour forecast is calling

for the temperatures to climb. middle 40s at 6:00. by 9:00, 52 degrees with southwesterly winds boosting our temperatures into the 60s by lunch çtime. that's when we'll start to see showers enter the picture and more rainfall on the way this afternoon. but it will only be rain as the temperatures will be much warmer during the afternoon hours. neighborhood by neighborhood forecast when i'm back in ten minutes. jessica boyington watching first alert traffic. >> we're watching 422 for ongoing construction right now. around trooper road. you can see up here we do have flashing lights and lane restrictions as well. you can see the cones placed down the roadway there. expect some delays, possibly. not a lot the cars out the door right now. maybe delays with lane restrictions east and westbound on 422 between trooper road and 423. an accident in salford in montgomery county. medford township, a utility pole

is down, route 70 eastbound around main street. the jug handle is closed. updates on mass transit when i come back in the next ten. now to the latest this morning on the deadly amtrak derailment. the train is being moved from the tracks in delaware county. amtrak says it is running a normal schedule for morning commute but septa riders could see delays on the wilmington/newark line. the train collided yesterday morning with a backhoe, killing veteran amtrak workers and sending dozens of passengers to the hospital. with cleanup along the track under way, the focus remains on how the deadly derailment could have happened. monique braxton is live in tr n trainor with more about the investigation. >> reporter: we've been watching what appears to be repairs here in trainer and the train has been moved. the presumption is it's going to be taken to 30th street station.

we're still waiting for confirmation of that. the goal here is what you mention, disruptions in the morning minimal, whether it's the septa train or an amtrak train. >> we now have our second d.o.a. located at the impact site of the backhoe. >> two people were killed and more than 30 injured when amtrak's palmetto train 89 slammed into a backhoe sunday morning. delaware county medical examiner's office plans to release information after performing autopsies today. the ntsb confirmed one of the deceased was the operator of the equipment. and u.s. senator chuck schumer of new york said the other person killed was a supervisor. we're also learning they had decades of experience. so what happened? what caused the train carrying

our area in just the past year. eight people were killed when this train derailed in philadelphia's port richmond neighborhood. more than 200 people were hurt in the may 12th derailment. amtrak train 188 was traveling at more than twice the posted speed limit when it hit a curve in the tracks and crashed. amtrak installed positive train control along the northeast corridor, a system that can automatically slow down a train if it's going too fast. for new developments on the deadly derailment, stay with nbc 10 on air and online. we have a slide show from the latest crash scene, video and a link to the national train schedule for amtrak. shifting gears now, villanova university and the main line are ready for a championship evening. watch parties for tonight's title game are planned for the pavilion on campus and on local pubs like kelly's tavern in radnor township.

kelly's manager expects a packed house just like it was for the final four. >> anybody that does come in with a bag or anything like that, they will have to be checked for security purposes. >> police made eight arrests saturday night, mostly for disorderly conduct. tonight university police and township police will add more officers and bomb-sniffing dogs to help keep the peace, win or lose. there are no doubt the villanova campus will be pumped up for tonight's game. but plenty of fans chose to hit the road and see the team in person. nbc 10's matt delucia is live in houston for us. you spoke with two sisters who made a last-minute decision to fly there, right? >> reporter: that's right, katy. it wasn't until they watched the big time, the blowout that they decided it was time to go. they stayed up until 1:00 sunday morning booking flights and a hotel. the two flew out to philadelphia yesterday morning. they landed in houston, ready to

in the pocono mountains you'll see a mix, snow to start with and rain coming in. temperatures in the 50s this afternoon for allentown and quakertown. reading up to 60 degrees. cool in doylestown, 59. rain this afternoon for trenton and mount holly. the farther south and east you go, the warmer the temperatures get. look at this 70 degrees for dover. 65 in cape may. clouds moving in. winds will be gusty this afternoon and a chance of some rain and for philadelphia, a dry morning but this afternoon, the rain will be coming through. 67 degrees before the rain starts to move in. west chester, 63 and up to 68 degrees in swedesboro. a look at the futurecast, hour by hour to show you exactly when the rain will alive in your neighborhood when i'm back in ten minutes. all right, bill, thank you. at least the rain is not here yet which means if you are traveling now, traffic should be light, not a lot of volume. it should be a pretty smooth ride, right, jessica. >> we have a smooth ride this morning, not a lot of really big

delays for our drive times. everything is moving along. some construction but a big focus will be mass transit. we'll expect some delays for amtrak and septa. the wilmington/newark line for septa is running on a regular weekday schedule starting today but starting at least 30-minute delays for outbound trains. septa will also be running to newark as well. they'll be sharing tracks, amtrak and septa. two and tracks three will be out of service leaving track one and four in service today. definitely delays in between wilmington and philadelphia this morning for all passengers all across the board. if you're out in warrenton township, watch out for construction on county line road between fairmont avenue and park ride, scheduled until the 8th of april. we'll see some delays there for your morning time. here is the schuylkill expressway, right through the conshohocken curve. 12 minutes from the blue route to the vine street expressway. katy? >> jessica, thank you.

derailment. the train has been moved from the tracks in trainer, delaware county where the crash happened yesterday morning. autopsies will be done today on the two amtrak workers who were killed in the collision. they were on a backhoe working along the live tracks when the train hit them. strong thunderstorms may be to blame for the fire that destroyed a historic church in cumberland county. skyforce 10 was over the mount pleasant united methodist church in millville. police tell us high winds yesterday morning knocked down a tree which brought down power lines that may have sparked the fire. nbc 10 was also at ground level as firefighters put out some hot spots there. we're told fire crews were able to save the church's social hall. no one was hurt. investigators are looking for the official cause of that fire. well, today, the head of nato visits the white house. president obama will host

secretary general yen saltonburg. turning now to decision 2016. nbc news has learned that the presidential campaigns of both donald trump and ted cruz are working to block rival john kasich from the ballot at the republican national convention. this latest report suggests the two leading gop candidates are preparing for a contested convention in cleveland this july. trump spoke about kasich while campaigning in milwaukee yesterday. >> kasich shouldn't be allowed to continue and the rnc shouldn't allow him to continue. and kasich has more of an impact on me than he does cruz. >> as for kasich, he said he hopes there will be a contested republican convention. here's how the republican race stands heading into tomorrow's wisconsin primary. trump leads with 749 delegates.

he's followed by ted cruz with 468. kasich is in third with 143. 1,237 delegates are needed to win the gop nomination. in the democratic race for the white house, front-runner hillary clinton will campaign in philadelphia this wednesday. her visit comes just a few weeks before the pennsylvania primary on april 26th. now on "meet the press" here on nbc 10 yesterday, clinton criticized her rival bernie sanders about holding up plans for their next debate. >> we've offered dates and we've done it over the last several weeks. so we've been trying to figure out when we could do this. there's a lot to talk about. my campaign has been really trying to get a time that senator sanders campaign would agree with. >> the sanders camp denied stalling on the debate issue. yesterday he was talking like a general election candidate. listen. >> the democrats want to make sure that a donald trump does

showers farther to the south, allentown, a few snow flakes there, moving through reading it's a mix of rain and some light snowflakes. some of those not even reaching the ground. it's falling into some drier air. the snow will get out of the picture. then rain will be likely to move in as we go into the later morning hours. more likely this afternoon. this is 9:00 this morning. futurecast showing 50 degrees in philadelphia with some very light rain showers from lancaster county into northern chester county, montgomery, bucks and into northern new jersey. that line fizzles out but look at the rain developing by lunch time today, farther north and west. look at the warmup, too. 61 degrees in philadelphia, wilmington, millville, dover, while it's in the 40s in allentown. a big range of temperatures today. here comes the rain. this is 3:00 this afternoon. steadier rain in the pennsylvania suburbs. 65 in philadelphia and wilmington and a bit warmer toms river at 67 degrees.

welcome back. 4:26 and happening today, health officials are trying to stomp out the zika virus as we quickly approach mosquito season. the new jersey department of health is spearheading a campaign to educate people about the risk of the zika virus. the zap zika campaign heads to vineland, cumberland county today. officials will hold a bilingual presentation at the community health center on west sherman avenue. and we have new information on that faulty escalator at the wells fargo center. you're looking at video from saturday when the moves stairs suddenly sped çup, throwing dozens of flyers fans who were leaving the arena.

no one was hurt, amazingly in that. the spokesperson called the escalator problem a malfunction. he said it was back in service and running normally during the rihanna concert last night. in pittsburgh, the flyers missed a chance to pad their lead for a final playoff spot. the penguins blasted the flyers, 6-2. the flyers visit detroit on wednesday. and today is opening day for the phillies. the team will begin the season in cincinnati later today. manager pete mccannen told comcast sports net the fans should get on board with these phils. >> the fans want to see us win. i hope that they have that same enthusiasm when we're going through a little stretch where we're not winning games, they'll be able to tell that we're really playing hard. i'd like to be the type of fan that when we get back to where we are supposed to be and we
