problem. >> we'll be back next week. if it's sunday, it's "meet the press." nbc 10 news starts now. hit and run investigation. bensalem police are looking for the driver who plowed his suv into a house and then ran from the scene. there's no place like home. today, the phillies will welcome tens of thousands of fans in citizens bank park. we'll have an inside look of what's new there this season. and we're tracking the threat of afternoon showers ahead of baseball. here's a look at citizens bank park. this is "nbc 10 news today." i'm tracy davidson. let's get right to meteorologist bill henley with his first alert forecast and talk about that rain moving in. bill? >> look at it behind me, the rain is falling, it is just light rain in our area this morning. temperatures are above freezing to the north.

that's where you'll find frozen precipitation. 45 degrees in philadelphia. 48 in cape may. even above freezing in the pocono mountains. we have rain but it is only going to be rain. this morning, we'll see the rain coming down, 46 degrees. showers in the area at 9:00, 48 but by lunch time, the rain takes a break. we'll see cloudyç skies at noontime. there should be breaks of sunshine this afternoon. the other thing we'll have to deal with and the players, too, winds that will be picking up this afternoon. 55 degrees at lunch time with the wind out of the south/southwest at near 20 miles an hour. we'll go through the forecast neighborhood by neighborhood when i'll back in 20 minutes. jessica boyington is watching the first alert traffic. >> we're starting to see rain falling on our majors, of course. no big problems right now on the vine street expressway. you can actually see right here, these are over top of our cameras where you can see the schuylkill expressway and the vine street expressway meet together. we have no ongoing construction

right now on the vine. last week we began the week with the vine street expressway closed between broad street and schuylkill. right now we are open. if you take the vine street expressway, you'll be good to go there. we have in problems on the schuylkill expressway. i also checked in with the area brnls. no scheduled openings for the tacony palmyra or the burlington bristol. no big backups from the philadelphia area towards jersey. today, baseball fans can officially say welcome home phillies. the 2016 home opener is this afternoon. there's a lot to look forward to at citizens bank park. deanna durante is at the field right now. the tarp is on the field because of the showers bill nengsed.

>> the tarp is on. nbc 10 the only people here on the field right now. the tarp covering that opening day logo, just a piece of it sticking out there as we have light rain falling. new score boards have been installed here so fans from all around the stadium can see the score. we can tell you that not only is there more to choose from inside to eat and drink, there will be plenty for fans to do today, especially opening çday. there's the big block party at citizens bank way there. we saw a ferris wheel and sound stage already outside. by the time we leave this afternoon, there will be tons of people out there, tons of amusements and games. take a look at video we shot. if you're getting ready for breakfast, this will begin to wake up your appetite. we have got an inside peek at some of the new food you can get at the ballpark, not just today but all season long, new burgers, new dogs, new things to drink, all coming to you

right now, they just want the driver caught. take a look at the inside of this house. these are photographs. bensalem police tells us around 5:30 yesterday morning, a car was coming up knight's road, hit something on the edge of the road, goes airborne and crashed into the shed and continued on into the front of this house. barrett davis was sleeping upstairs when the car crashed right through that house. >> i couldn't think. i couldn't think or nothing. i froze, like it was a dream. >> to have enough force to go through a home, you can imagine the speed and how dangerous that situation was for the homeowner and the driver. >> the homeowner says he wasn't lucky, rather he's blessed to have escaped injury from something like that. a woman who lives here was taken to the hospital because of the stress of everything. she's expected to be okay. the driver took off running after the crash. police are still look for him at this hour. live in bensalem, matt delucia,

nbc 10 news. the pennsylvania house is expected to vote on new abortion restrictions. the republican-sponsored bill would ban elected abortions after 20 weeks. the current law is 24 weeks. tom wolf urged lawmakers not to approve what would be the strictest abortion measure in the country. the bill needs house and senate passage before it would go to the governor's death. a northampton county man is facing charges after police find hidden weapons during a traffic stop near the holland tunnel. marlin murphy of easton was pulled off at a toll plaza on saturday night. they stopped him to check this large blue barrel in the back of the truck forç hazardous materials. officers found a .12 gauge shotgun and 175 rounds of ammuniti ammunition. he's been charged with unlawful weapons possession. we have new information on

this deadly crash in lehigh county. wet roads likely played a role in the accident that killed a 3-year-old girl. a car and pickup truck collided. the 3-year-old was strapped in a car seat that was ejected from one of the vehicles on impact. omembers of the air nationa guard are back home with their families. this was the scene at the new castle air guard base yesterday. the trups have been in iraq, afghanistan and southwest asia. while it was a welcome ceremony, 14 others deployed for missions overseas. now your first alert weather with meteorologist bill henley. >> 4:08. we're tracking showers. light rain showers in the area this morning.

they'll be tapering off this afternoon for the phillies game. gusty winds will be kicking in. these winds will top 20 miles an hour. tonight, rain returns and that will carry us into tuesday. right now, we may need an umbrella if you're heading out the door, reading and philadelphia. light rain for both locations. 43 in reading, 45 in philadelphia and cape may is 46 with cloudy skies. the rain has not reached the shore just yet. there are the rain clouds right over the city. this is a view from right here at the nbc 10 studios. the wind is light. the rain will take a break and that's when the wind will kick into action. the radar shows quite a bit of widespread light rainfall falling in philadelphia. not so much at the shore. there are some spots that are getting a break from the rain right now. and it's a little steadier in montgomery county and pushing into bucks county at this hour. hour by hour forecast shows rain showers at 7:00 this çmorning. they will still be with us. you may still need your umbrella into the late morning and early

thanks for that. 4:10 right now. let's check the roads. first alert traffic reporter jessica boyington has that. >> we're starting off on a good note, the vine street expressway is open for business. all vehicular traffic allowed to travel through, starting last week on monday. for three days we had that ongoing construction closing it in between broad street and this point at the schuylkill expressway. headed westbound, no problems getting to the schuylkill, even with some of the wet roads and eastbound towards 95. no ongoing construction there. the schuylkill expressway is moving nicely either direction. i also did check in with some of the area bridge as well. no problems or scheduled openings right now on the tacony palmyra, burlington bristol. here's 95 around girard avenue. headed southbound from woodhaven road to the vine street expressway, a 13-minute trip. speeds into the 60s even with the rain coming down. we are watching that ongoing construction around girard avenue. that off ramp is closed from the

now. these 26 bike riders represent the 26 victims of the sandy hook school shooting in connecticut. today they are pedaling into the university of delaware as part of their ride on washington. that ride runs from newtown, connecticut to washington, d.c. today they plan to meet with delaware governor jack markell to discuss gun control laws. team 26 is pushing for universal background checks and a ban on guns on college campuses. the riders have already traveled through new york, new jersey and pennsylvania, hit those spring showers over the weekend. >> i don't think any of us would have been on a bike for ten minutes, not to mention eight hours but for the importance and the significance of what we're doing. it's something that we need to fix. >> yesterday team 26 met with philadelphia mayor jim kenney and the families of gun violence victims. the riders are expected to get to washington tomorrow. today in georgia, jury selection begins in the trial of a father accused of purposely leaving his infant son inside a hot car to die.

authorities say ross harris left the baby strapped in his suv while he was at work in 2014. selecting a jury is expected to take up to two weeks. legal experts believe that widespread media coverage will make it tough for the lawyers to find jurors who have not heard of the case. >> they are going to beç taske with finding a jury who can dedicate their entire life to this case. what i think you can find in cobb county is someone who hasn't made up their mind, because they realize they haven't heard all of the evidence. >> the trial is expected to last more than two months. now to decision 2016, president obama is defending hillary clinton's run for the white house and her record, including the use of a private e-mail server. the president made his first ever appearance on fox's sunday morning show, saying that neither he nor his administration would politically influence investigations of clinton's e-mails. he also said he agreed with clinton that she showed carelessness in handling some
