it doesn't appear that the crash is slowing her down at all. she's scheduled to perform tonight in providence, rhode island. we have breaking news now. an 83-year-old philadelphia woman has been found shot dead in her home. the discovery made just hours ago inside this home in the germantown section. nbc 10 is live at the scene. what can you share with us, andrea? >> reporter: take a look, crime scene investigators came here and police are not giving us a lot of information but they have told us at least for now this incident has been labeled suspicious. just before 1:00, police responded to the 400 block of east cosgrove street where they found a woman with two gunshot wounds to the chest. she was taken to the hospital where she was found dead.

police confirmed that her husband was home at the time. now, we've seen emotional family members outside of the house. they have also spoken to officers. officers are still inside of the house right now. again, gathering more information. they have told us, though, that they are not looking for a suspect. reporting live? germantown, nbc 5 news. >> andrea, thank you. now to justice for the family of a mother and her three young children that were killed two summers ago. >> it was emotional. but i'm just glad everything is over. we got justice. >> today, the man who pled guilty to his role in the 2014 carjacking and crash learned his punishment. >> the judge sentenced jonathan rosa up to 90 years in prison. today is his 21st birthday. monique braxton is live in

allegheny. i know you spoke with the suspect's family and the victims' relatives about this outcome. >> reporter: it is nothing but tragedy and in a moment we'll tell you what the judge had to say. this is where the children and their mother were killed almost two years ago this july. now, jonathan rosa apologized in court and then cried when the judge delivered the sentence. amanda rosa cries in her hands, shielding her face from the camera after her son learns his fate. his defense attorney christopher warren read a letter she wrote. >> i can't apologize to the heart take that you all have have experienced but i'm truly sorry. i pray about the victims and their families every day. >> reporter: it's been almost two years since rosa and cornelius crawford killed three siblings and their mother, keisha williams, died a few

weeks later. they were selling fruit on a hot summer day when the out of control suv careened into them. the men admitted taking turns sexually assaulting a realtor and joy riding after they carjacked her not far away. >> you agreed to a plea agreement? >> yes. >> why? >> for lots of reasons. this case was negotiated. the main reason was not to put the family of the descedents through a trial as well as the woman who was carjacked and brutally assaulted. >> reporter: the williams family, who share their loss in court, say they want their closure. >> i forgive them. >> how do you find that in your heart to forgive? >> it was hard. i prayed. >> now you're looking at a sign posted at the place where the family passed away. of course, the mother died a few weeks later but both had

life-threatening injuries. the judge called this case more than a tragedy. she says it's catastrophic. now, cornelius crawford, the co-defendant, was sentenced 50 to 100 years in march. live for now in north philadelphia, monique braxton, nbc 10 news. take a look at this. protesters are rallying for an increase to the minimum wage. this is at broad and jerard in north philadelphia where randy gyllenhall has more. >> this is where we're expecting the protesters to start marching and you can see flashing lights in the distance. you can see a loud crowd of protesters right now and they are supposed to be heading our

way towards city hall. this is a number of different groups protesting across center city. a group of temple protesting plans for a stadium as well as a $15 an hour wage. and subsequent protesting in baltimore and what we are expecting is a large protest crowd and it's set to converge right at 5:00 right at rush hour. for now, randy gyllenhall, nbc 10 news. >> protesters outside the state capitol building there calling for new jersey to follow new york and california's lead and phase in a $15 an hour minimum wage. new jersey's house speaker and senate president have both agreed to send a minimum wage increase to the governor's desk. sky force 10 is over another protest this afternoon.

students and faculty walked out of class today joining a group called stadium stompers protesting the university's football stadium on campus. they will end up at a protest that will begin in an hour. to breaking news now, police have a man in custody in connection with a deadly hit-and-run. drew smith is live. what can you tell us? >> reporter: jim, right now we continue to see police search through a home here at the corner of madison and cedar streets connected to the investigation into the death of 36-year-old thomas dunbar. around 3:30 police took a man out of the home in handcuffs in connection with the accident investigation division and put him in the back of the police car. he had a lawyer here most of the afternoon. the attorney told the police that his client would make no statement and says he's innocent. this investigation began last

night around 9:30 at lehigh avenue. witnesses say dunbar was riding on a motorized scooter when a car hit him and he was dragged for more than 200 feet. the car did not stop, according to witnesses. just before midnight, police said they found the striking car at the home where they are now searching. listen to what the man's attorney told us just now. >> he did nothing wrong. he does not understand why the police would detain him in his house for -- i would say it's been since about 7:30 this morning without a search warrant or arrest warrant until now. he has nothing to say. >> reporter: we are continuing to work this story. i've called the accident investigation division. we're trying to figure out the man's name and what charges he could face in this case. port richmond, nbc 10, i'm drew smith. a perfect day to play

dropping too much at the beaches but we have another frost advisory overnight tonight for all of the counties north and west of philadelphia and also the counties to the north and west. just about all of south jersey except for the beaches. now, let's break it down forecastwise. hour by hour as we go through the night, in philadelphia, we're not going to get that cold. the urban heat island keeps it warmer. but big contrast. let's go to the pennsylvania suburbs. by 6:00 a.m., down to 32 degrees. you can see it dropping faster to lehigh valley. down to 30 degrees as well. south jersey, 32. jersey shore, 38. we'll get into more details coming up. medical marijuana is just days from becoming law in pennsylvania so what is the next step for patients?

rosemary connors has the next step that patients need to know. rosemary? >> reporter: it won't take effect until 30 days after being signed into law and patients will have to wait longer than that to access medical marijuana in pennsylvania. here's the timeline in all of this. over the next six months, the department of health will come up with temporary regulations and set up a process for patients to apply for i.d. cards for doctors to register and discpensary licenses. the regulations will become permanent two years after the law takes effect and the dispensaries have to be up and running for patients to get their medical marijuana prescriptions filled and that will most likely happen one to two years from now. one year being pretty ambitious. most likely, a year to two years. nonetheless, patients in pennsylvania on the front line of this movement are grateful

harrington to lincoln, oh, yeah, we can go down toward rehoboth beach. this is courtesy of one of the most reliable weather sites on the internet since the internet was invented. we have another frosty night out there right now, as you can see. temperatures drop as we go through 8:00. it's not just one temperature. we're showing -- pick your spot. pick where you live. also, that's the seven-day forecast for every part of our area. take a look at whatever you'd like. as we go into tomorrow afternoon, temperatures are near 60. lots of sunshine. we also have a big weekend warmup. high pressure building up over

the east. the jet stream pushed way up into canada and there's no way for any rain to get in here. so we have dry weather and we have warming weather. the neighborhoods tomorrow, as you can see, mostly getting into the 60s. and farther to the south, toward the shore, look at the temperatures in the 50s. there's avalon at only 56 degrees. and over the next five days, there's going to be a big difference between philadelphia and the shore. for example, look at monday. we're up to 80. the shore only gets to 70. so if you're headed to the shore, don't assume it's going to get to 80 like it will in philadelphia. but tuesday, the temperatures are fairly similar. now, on sunday, look at those temperatures. we jump out somewhat on friday and even more on sunday. and look at the difference between last weekend, 43 and

snowing. 64 this saturday. 72 degrees on sunday. at the shore, pretty chilly last weekend and a big difference as we go through the end of the week. this is the kind of detail that we're going to get. that's one of the great things about this neighborhood weather system that we're getting into. and we're showing you more and more detail in central and southern delaware, for example. we have that kind of detail over every county in the entire area. so that's what is happening now. and the forecasts are not just coming out of a computer. it's a combination, computer and our forecast that we've been working on for hours. zoom by zoom by zoom. >> and really zeroing in on

32 in coatesville. 30 in allentown and millville, probably down to 30 or 29. as we go into the weekend, the temperatures are going to continue to rise. about the same tomorrow and maybe a degree higher. saturday, 65, sunday, 78 degrees. and the one problem that we have without the rain is the pollen building up. and the worst of it is the oak. the mold is fairly high, too. it's not going to get any better. forecasts all the way through the weekend and into monday, we still have issues with the pollen. it's still going to be extremely high over the next several days until we get some rain. well, we have the weekend warming not just in

philadelphia. 65 to 72 to 80. elsewhere, the jersey shore, if you're headed to the shore, it's not going to be anywhere near as warm as the inland areas. especially tomorrow and saturday with the wind coming in off of the ocean. so we can get down right to the neighborhoods with the forecast. we can also go out. we're going out in time. ten days out. we were the first station to bring you the seven-day forecast when the science allowed it. now the science allows us to go to ten days with some skill and let me show you what happens after that. 08 degrees on monday. we drop a little on tuesday but we're still in the 70s, all of next week. with the first chance of showers not until next friday. if you need to wash the car, you have plenty of time for that.

this couldn't come at a better time after this little boy is recovering from two life-saving surgeries. keith jones has this young man's story. keith? >> a lot of young kids worship superheroes but one local boy has displayed more courage than most comic book crusaders. multiple brain surgeries, limited mobility and then legally blind. and to think the boy is as positive as ever. >> i've been through a lot. i beat a brain tumor. it takes guts. >> reporter: that's what makes this little 7-year-old -- >> one, two, three! >> reporter: -- a local superhero, thanks to the police department, complete with a cake -- >> super damien. >> reporter: and a great attitude. >> are you bored yet standing here like this? >> kind of. >> me, too. you know that? i've got to hold this heavy plaque. >> reporter: he received a certificate and how could he forget, a badge.

right now at 5:00, protests continue to disrupt center city. sky force 10 is live over city hall where protesters are marching as you can see right now. >> nbc 10's randy gyllenhaal is live with an update. fill us in. >> reporter: so they've got the streets all around city hall shut down. this is causing a traffic nightmare but these protesters are very vocal for a $15 an hour minimum wage. i'm joined by -- what's your name again, ma'am? >> gerry arnold. i'm fighting for minimum wage to be increased to $15 an hour at least. people are not able to pay their bills and feed their children but they can find 400 million for jail but you can't find money to educate to keep our schools open. >> reporter: a lot of these

protesters gathered at the mcdonald's across from city hall which sparked this protest. this is one of a few happening in center city today, including another against the temple proposed stadium. also, a group protesting the anniversary of the freddie gray killing in baltimore. we'll keep following this as it develops but a large protest ending here at city hall. for now, randy gyllenhaal, nbc 10 news. making the streets safe for families. >> neighbors in north philadelphia were stuck in the middle of a gang turf war but now the gang members are off the streets and behind bars. >> police say the so-called tnt gang was responsible for a spree of violence in the northern part of the city. police responded to at least nine shootings where at least one innocent bystander was killed. >> brandon hudson joins us now with more on how
