suspects arrested with a gun, one police believe is the same gun used to shoot a philadelphia police officer. >> at 1:00 p.m. today, narcotics officers observed a suspect, arrested, and a gun was recovered. >> reporter: police can't yet be sure if that is the same weapon used to shoot philadelphia police officer last night, but they say they are confident the man arrested is the man who pulled the trigger. it was before 9:00 when a woman was carjacked, flagging down the police, and she asked for help. >> bothle males fled on foot, and officers pursued the suspect who had the gun, and the suspect turned to shoot the officer, one time in the leg. >> reporter: police didn't know the man robbed someone else and stole the man's wallet and car keys issue and defense that man who helped nab one suspect as

police tried to track down the shooter. sources say 20-year-old fought with the man who was able to punch him several times and said that man held him until the police arrived. with him in custody, police looked for griffin and found him awaiting at a place he's known to hang out, a corner in west philadelphia. skyforce10 was overhead where griffin is being held. >> police officers never know one encounter to the next what's in front of them, and as it can be a very dangerous job. this is why instead of casting dispersions on a whole lot of people, the entire profession, many should be applauded as the heros that they are. >> reporter: both of these suspects tonight facing a long list of charges. we're told they include robbery and attempted murder. reporting live outside police headquarters, nbc 10 news. we were in the neighborhood

minutes after griffin's arrest. neighbors kridescribed the scen. >> i was coming out the house seen the cars, they had one guy, they were putting in the wagon. >> that's scary. there's too many guns out here. >> the sussuspect's father was there, did not want to talk on camera, but is distraught. he received a call that his son may have been involved in a police shooting. he shared pictures with us and told us his son was attending community college in north carolina until recently. always willing to step in harm's way in the personal and professional life. that's what family, friends, and fellow officers describe the officer. they have been visiting him in the hospital all day today, and we are live outside penn presbyterian hospital where the officer is under doctor's care tonight. what have you learned about him today. ? >> reporter: he graduated from father judge high school in 2012 and attended westchester

university before entering the police academy. friends consider him tireless and commend him for giving up a sport that he so much loved, rugby, to sink teeth into a career, family, and fatherhood. >> just brought a shock real quick because of how close a friend he is. >> reporter: michael's heart sank until he knew his friend and former teammate would survive a frightening gunshot wound. >> we he loves the job, i know that, always wanted to make a difference, so, i mean, just an inspiration to our whole team. >> reporter: friends from holy family university and northeast phillie is the irish rugby club describes him as a force to be reckoned with on and off the field. >> god forbid anybody gets hurt, but he's the first guy you saw, the guy to be there, and that speaks a lot to his character, about, you know, who he is. >> we go out play, but he's

actually the harder job of being a father and starting a career. >> reporter: detectives seen going to the hospital monday at lunchtime and barrage of officers rushing to the scene last night and throughout the day today. police say he is in good spirits considering his ordeal. he tied a tourniquet around the wounded thigh to stop blood loss. >> exhausted, all night long, adrenaline mostly, understandable, but he needs rest. >> reporter: his buddies are organizing a fundraiser to help with med costs. he's a father to a 2-year-old daughter and engaged to be married. >> he's kpieexcited about that. his daughter is beautiful, excited to be a dad, i know that, he brings her out to the games when he can support us. i know he'll pop back from this. >> reporter: and doctors here at the hospital confirm that he is still undergoing testing, and it's unclear now from the police department whether or not he could be released from the hospital tonight or at some point tomorrow. one other note, according to his

show you current conditions across many parts of the area. we can also show you forecasts for just about any neighborhood. concentrate on delaware right now. go different neighborhoods with each weather cast. 79 in wilmington, 64 by 9:00, 56 degrees, not very cold by morning. and if you're not in wilmington, there's other parts of delaware we're covering. harmony hills? 80 degrees. odessa at 81. these are the current conditions. cooler further south of delaware. millsboro at 73 and 57 degrees in duey beach right near the bay. the temperatures tonight, not going down anywhere near as low as they have been lately, but we've got big changes coming as we head throughout the week. we'll get to that including the ten-day in a few minutes.

the man police say shot a 4-year-old philadelphia girl to death faced arraignment early this morning. phillips charged with third degree murder, involuntary manslaughter, and endangering the welfare of a child. he confessed to the crime according to the police. police say he shot his 4-year-old daughter in the back of the head. they say phillips took the 4-year-old to another room then punched his 5-year-old daughter in the face and put her sister's blood on her shirt to appear the 5-year-old was the one to pull the trigger. it all began yesterday when phillips waved a gun around in a small room. >> once inside of the room, he removed his gun from the holster and started carrilessly and recklessly waving and pointing the gun around in the room. >> he turned himself in hours after the shooting. a brooks county man got in more trouble than he was already

in when prosecutors say he lied to a judge about being a marine. shane sparrow of lawrence is charged with making a false statement while sentenced in an unrelated theft case. he led the judge to believe he was retired and decorated marine. a quick check by the county's adult probation office revealed none was true. prosecutors showed the marine corp. items police took from sparrow saying he had a uniform with his name on it and had a phoney honorable discharge certificate. the district attorney is not taking this case lightly. >> you know, when someone lies to the court, we have to -- we -- that needs to be taken seriously. we cannot and will not look the other way. >> sparow was charged with ripping off a scrap medal dealer originally. a new law in new jersey cuts amount of time cons have to wait

to have criminal records clear. the wau law cuts the waiting period from ten years to five. those who finished a court ordered drug rehabilitation program can take advantage of the change. people convicted of murder, sexual assault, robbery, and other more serious crimes cannot have their records expunged. now to decision 2016, both democratic presidential candidates hit pennsylvania hard now as primary day creeps closer. hillary clinton plans to campaign in philadelphia wednesday, but aids have not announced details about that visit yet. today, she spent time shaking hands with employees and union workers at a new york hospital. a new b.c. news wall street journal poll has her leading sanders two points nationally. sanders dismissed the polls this morning on "today" saying the only thing that matters is what happens in the voting booth. tomorrow night, he's in state college to hold a rally at penn

and see the sea breeze cooled off. may's landing was up in the upper 70s a couple hours ago. woodbine at 74, but it's cool at the beaches, 72 in lant tick city. the reason it's going to be a little bit milder tomorrow at the shore, the wind. northwest, a land breeze, 15 miles per hour wind in atlantic city, so as you see the forecast, you'll see why we have temperatures warmer than today. now, the temperatures, wow, up to 82 today. we were 67 on saturday, 73 sunday, and now, tomorrow, the temperatures are going to drop. that's still close to 10 degrees above average, of course, the thing that has been consistent is the lack of rain, and that allows the pollen to build up, and the ground is dry. the wind's blowing around, and tuesday and wednesday will be horrible for allergy sufferers.
