don't come here after, like, 7:00. >> police have not found witnesses who may have seen it. if you have information, they want to hear from you. keith jones, nbc 10 news. now your nbc 10 first alert weather. it was nice enough for a stroll along the water today. the bureau was out at the dog beach this morning. the dogs enjoyed the ocean. it's still too cold for a lot of people to actually want to get in that water. not quite as warm as yesterday, but still warmer than normal for us. >> but there's a new threat for communities out there. glen hurricane schwartz is here with the threat. >> we have a lot of weather changes. one of the changes is the wind. the temperature started to drop in many parts of the area, upper 60s to the low 70s. we're talking about the fire danger, and that covers about the entire area until 8:00 tonight, and that is due to the

very low humidity combined with the gusty winds and the dry ground. fires can spread quickly. that's why we have to take extra caution here. the wind is blowing strong out the northwest, 15-20 miles per hour. it's been doing that all afternoon, and in the neighborhoods in south jersey, one of the areas that does tend to have fire dangers, we do have some low humidities, 29% at piney hollow, and 22% in bridgeton, that spreads fires fast. princeton at 27%. now as we go through the night tonight, the wind diminishes somewhat and temperatures go down. down into the 40s by daybreak in some places into the lower 40s. there's the lehigh valley and the rest of the area as you can see. the temperatures dropping

quickly this evening. see how much they drop with the rest of the forecast in just a few minutes. >> all right, glen. to decision 2016 now. votesers casting primary ballots in the highly contested new york primary today, a state three candidates called home at some point including trump and hillary clinton, of course. >> both of whom are currently leading the polls in the empire state. clinton served as new york senator cast her home vote joined by her husband, former president bill clinton, and trump cast a ballot in manhattan, expected to pick up the delegates. new yorkers are voter today, many of the presidential candidates are looking ahead a week to pennsylvania's ply mare. >> four out of the five remaining candidates visit pennsylvania this week. john kasich visited pittsburgh today and sat for a meal here and chatted with voters. on thursday, the ohio governor is said to take part in a town hall, a media event going to the

party at the national constitution party, this as he waits for new york's results to come in. he's joined by a discussion in the afternoon, and then hillary clinton holding an organizing event tomorrow night. as we mentioned earlier, john kasich will be here thursday. pennsylvania voters head to the polls a week from today. delaware holds its primary on the same day while new jersey voters will cast their ballots on june 7th. >> the democratic national convention hits town this summer, but you'll see iconic donkeys first. the 2016 host committee announced 57 donkeys symbolizing the democratic party is placed around the city beginning july 1st. the chairman of the host committee says fund raising goals for the convention are down now because some sponsors pulled financial support because of republican donald trump.

dr. steven meyer running with his dog when a student hit and killed them. >> just terrible. school classes cancelled today and the community will gather there tonight. he was the superintendent at robinsville school district, and nbc 10 is live there tonight with more on the crash and reaction from the community, sydney? >> reporter: jim, jackie, the mayor had tears in his eyes this morning, but we didn't have to see tears to know the community is truly heart broken, and they are still somewhat in shock. of course, they are grieving for two reasons, over the sudden loss of their beloved superintendent and young female driver, a senior at the high school who struck him. >> today is a sad day for our community. dr. steven mayers left too soon. >> jogging less than a mile from the high school, he was struck from behind, out of his

running shoes. the teenage driver stopped immediately. a nearby homeowner dialled 911, but it was too late. >> the dog was also struck and killed in the crash. the accident remains under investigation. >> reporter: the mayor tried to reach his friend not realizing he was the person hit. >> as soon as we heard we had an accident, he was the first i texted. >> the supersben didn't for six years, he was a little league coach, a father of three sons, one a junior at the high school, and his wife, a fourth grade teacher. >> he had so much joy and passion and belief in students, that he couldn't contain it. >> students felt it, enjoying his open door policy. >> he was a very nice, loving man. i'll never forget walking down the hall, seeing that smile on his face and making eye contact saying, hey, jer. >> police guarded the entrance today as faculty and students arrived for grief counselling. >> the whole community needs a time to mourn, you know, i'm

face a job accuse of shooting an officer sunday night who interrupted a carjacking that he carried out with another man. we learned from court documents that griffin has 14 prior arrests and less than a week ago, he was sitting in jail and let go after a judge cited a lack of evidence because several witnesses did not show up to testify. >> a judge postponed a hearing for the man accused of ambushing two pennsylvania state troopers prompting a massive man hunt. he's charged with opening fire in 2014 killing one trooper and seriously wounding another. today, frein's lawyer argued his video recorded statement to the police arguing his arrest should be thrown out. the judge asked reporters to leave the courtroom to watch the video. the reporters objected, and the judge postponed the hearing. a friend from the poconos on leave saying he was so drunk they used a stun gun to subdue him.

evans threatened obscenities at him after he was found vomiting in the yard. police used a stun gun on evans when he resisted arrest. the superintendent said he was on unpaid leave. we reached out to evans for response but have not heard back from him. new information on a crash killing a crossing guard in trenton. police arrested dwyane bennett driving a sus pended license when he hit and killed the crossing guard. skyforce10 over the scene. the victim was identified as a 56-year-old crossing route 129 when he was hit. early morning fire at a closed plant, is considered suspicious, nbc 10 at 3:00 this morning for the fire at the five star chicken processing plant. one firefighter had a minor issue but now is fine. the quest for the cup.

stretch down three game, but they point to six years ago back in 2010 when the flyers came back from three down to beat the bruins in the eastern conference semifinal. puck drops tomorrow at 7:00 live at the center. randy gyllenhaal. nbc 10 news. >> thank you. atlantic city finished paying what it owes the school system. today, the city made good on remaining $2.4 million in taxes it owed its schools. last week, they paid the first half of the debt, and right now, they have to pay the system about $25 million by the end of the school year. speaking of dollars, millions are on the way to make the ferry energy efficient. the service got a $6 million grant to help repower and reretrofit two of the vessels and provide a cleaner environment. the delaware is expected to return to cape may next month. it may soon be a lot easier

to take your family on a dream vacation. the senate just passed a new reauthorization bill for the faa including provisions like not having to pay extra fees if you have to switch seats to sit with your young ones, and young children would not be sprited from parents during tsa security screenings. the measure allows pregnant women the option to pre-board their flights. the battle over whether apple should have broken into an accused terrorist cell phone for the fbi went before congressional committee today. they hired a third party to hack into the phone, but today, a senior fbi official told members of congress that is not the solution. both sides agree. the problem is complex. it will take a long time to come up with a solution. new video into nbc 10 shows rescuers pulling a man out alive from the rubble of a collapsed hotel in ecuador. they rescued him two days after the earthquake hit the country. amazingly, the man managed to

call a relative for help while trapped-under-p eped under the the building. 413 people were killed. at least nine of them foreigners. more than 1,000 people stranded in flooded apartment complexes in houston got help today. flood waters continue to rise after more than 20 inches of rain fell in the area over the last several days. >> it's about to my knees in the apartment right now, and last thing i saw was a snake swimming through the apartment so i'm blessed to have all of you helping me. >> reporter: forecasters say there's a 50% chance more rain will fall in the area today. a flash flood warning will extend through tomorrow. now your nbc 10 first alert weather with chief meteorologist glen "hurricane" schwartz. their weather and our weather is related. we're stuck in the fair weather warm part of the system. they're stuck in the wet part and nothing's been moving so we keep getting sunny day after

sunny day and they get rain after rain after rain. well, we started off warm today, but the northwest winds came in to cool things down. 60s north and west, 74 in south jersey. these are the winds, northwest wind meeting a sea breeze, you see where it is with the detail that we now have with all of these temperatures, you can see, look at this, atlantic city, 60 with the wind off the ocean, may's landing, not that far away, 78 degrees. that's almost a 20 degree temperature difference. it did get warm right at the beaches today before that sea breeze moved in. and as we go through the night tonight in philadelphia, temperatures drop into the 40s. you need some kind of coat tomorrow morning. reading dropping perhaps to the upper 30s. wilmington in the 40s. trenton dropping into the mid-40s by morning as well.

so it is going to be not warm and dry. it will be mild and dry as we go through the day tomorrow. it has been warm, 82 monday, 78 today, and 70 degrees tomorrow. that's still above average, and that may end up being the coolest day of the week. the pollen is still an issue and still a not pleasant issue for allergy sufferers that continues to be high wednesday and thursday and drops friday because of the showers and goes right back up on saturday. not exactly great news for those folks. now, we have dry conditions here. we have some high clouds that have moved through, but back to the west, clouds a little bit thicker and more showers, still a long way away. that's st. louis, so it's going to take a while for that moisture to come in here as we go through tomorrow, lots of sunshine, sunny all day. there's tomorrow night. thursday, then, the clouds start

to increase. the showers get a little bit closer by thursday night, and as we go into friday, that's when the shower threat comes, but we're not talking about widespread rain. now, as we go through the rest of the night and into tomorrow, these are the low temperatures tonight and high temperatures tomorrow. near 70 degrees in many parts of the area. pig out your nabz to see what the temperatures are going to be right where you live. same with the seven day forecast at the bottom of the screen. different parts of the area. it's not just a philadelphia seven day forecast anymore. as we go to the shore, look at the temperatures tomorrow. we got up near eighth in atlantic city today. 60 tomorrow. 62 in lynnwood. 60 in avlon. the five-day forecast, you can see the differences at the jersey shore compared to what we're going to be seeing in philadelphia, and that wind really, really makes a

right now at 4:30, a philadelphia mother makes a public plea for help after a hit-and-run driver killed her son over the weekend and died yesterday. >> nbc 10's monique braxton spoke to the mother today, live at the scene of the crash in west philadelphia. monique? >> reporter: hi, the parents came here to the scene to see where their son was hit. they are also hoping to find the witness who saw the fatal accident. >> wonderful son. >> reporter: the grief strick p parents of the 27-year-old talk about their son, a 2011 mechanical engineering grad who was hit by a car early saturday while riding his bike. he pass away monday morning after suffering severe head trauma. >> jamal loves life, church, sports, he was a sunday schoolteacher, played football with the kids.

>> reporter: investigators say when he arrived at 45th and market, the driver who hit morris took off. >> we have no piece of the car left behind, no physical evidence, no reliable eyewitnesss. >> reporter: police also say they are searching for surveillance videotape. meantime, the morris family is hoping someone who saw their only son's last minutes of life will help them find closure. they wish to meet the person who called police. >> he did not make it, but you made the call, so thank you. as a mom, i am pleading with the person who hit my son. i forgive you. please, come forward. >> that person could be a person of fear, but i forgive that person. i have no hatred, no ill-will. >> reporter: incredible strength there, i tell you. we went to morris' neighborhood and talked to his college roommates as well today. you're going to hear from them in the next half hour. live now from west philadelphia, monique braxton, nbc 10 news.

we are following breaking news, a five-car accident on the road westbound at 202. here's a live picture. we don't know yet if there's any injuries, but we know that all lanes of 76 are blocked at route 202. this could make a tough ride home for many people, of course. look at the backup already happening now, i-76 west shut down near 202 near king of prussia montgomery county pennsylvania. we'll follow the breaking story and more on the backup and injuries as soon as we get new information. meantime, here's other stories making headlines on nbc 10 news at 4:00. dr. steve mayer hit and kill in a jog near his home running this morning with his dog on robbinsville road early this morning.

robbinsville mayor says a 17-year-old senior was in the car that hit him, and no charges have been filed. a woman recovering after being attacked on a running trail. police say she was attacked last night on the james hall trail in the area of phillips park. the attacker shoved her from behind and repeatedly punched her in the face. police are looking for witnesses. decision 2016, focus on new york state holding the primary today. hillary clinton and trump are leading the polls. some candidates are looking ahead to pennsylvania. that includes ted cruz who will be in philadelphia tonight for a watch party. now your nbc 10 first alert weather. >> a breezy, but beautiful day outside, and nbc 10 on main street in newark which was crowded this morning as people got out. some taking advantage of the beautiful temps with shorts and trying to enjoy the spring weather. a live look at citizen bank park in south philly. you want good weather in the

refused to answer questions 98 times citing marital or attorney-client privilege. cosby faces charges in montgomery county accused of drugging and molesting a former temple university employee in 2004. he's denied the allegations. police say a man dressed in swat gear murdered a yoga instructor in a texas church. rain forced her to move the camp inside monday morning, and when people showed up, they found her body. the man in the video broke into the church and believe she may have sbuminterrupted a burglary. a high profile ban is boycotting north carolina's decision concert pearl jam announced on twitter, cancelling the concert for tomorrow in raleigh. that bill stripped many discrimination protections from the state's lgbt community. pearl jam wrote a letter that said, quote, the law that was recently passed is a dispickble
