the democratic national convention happens right here in philadelphia july 25th through the 28th and withdrew can count on nbc 10 as your place to see it all. and as we lead up to that convention, you can get the latest on the dnc planning and the push for delegates by tapping the nbc 10 app. tonight, a community's grief, hundreds of people held a vigil in mercer county remembering a school superintendent killed while on his morning jog. steven mayer died after a car ran into him this morning. police say a teenage student was behind the wheel. nbc 10's denise nakano reports from robbinsville. >> reporter: this is a close-knit community and you can really feel that with the overwhelming turnout here for superintendent dr. steven mayer. hundreds came to tonight's vigil and here many stay. silence fell over foxmoor community park in robbinsville mercer county. no words could describe as great

a loss as the accident that took superintendent dr. steven mayer's life so suddenly. >> how do you make sense of a nonsensical situation? i mean, i was at a loss for words. i still expect to wake up from a bad dream. >> i am speechless. i couldn't believe something so tragic would happen to such a great guy. >> reporter: more than 500 people turned out for tonight's vigil held only hours after mayer was killed. he was on a routine morning jog with his dog when he was struck by a student on her way to nearby robbinsville high school for a class trip. >> i couldn't believe it. i got a call this morning, told me first thing this morning and i just couldn't -- i still don't believe it. it hurts. >> reporter: mourners placed candles alongside flowers and wrote messages to dr. mayer's family on index cards. >> i look at this, we all cared and he cared about us. he cared about the community. >> reporter: teammates of mayer's son came in their lacrosse uniforms showing solidarity in their support. >> such a great family, such a

tragic event, and i think all the people out here speak of how big of an impact that he had on the town. >> reporter: all robbinsville schools will be closed tomorrow but grief counselors will be available. in robbinsville, denise nakano, nbc 10 news. skyforce 10 over the scene of a five-vehicle wreck in king of prussia earlier this afternoon. it had the schuylkill expressway westbound lanes near route 202 shut down for hours. three people taken to the hospital are expected to be okay. just a few hours ago, crews got this all cleaned up and all lanes have since re-opened. a warning for anyone whose commute includes the delaware memorial bridge. crews closed three of the four lanes on the south bound span of the bridge for the next few days. originally officials said it should be finished by tomorrow. skyforce 10 was above that sacee today. crews working to replace suspension ropes on the bridge. does roosevelt boulevard work for you?

that's the question residents are asking. the city of philadelphia, septa and pendot asked riders and drivers to put their input on the boulevard. kicking off a route for change program to make roosevelt boulevard safer and more accessible to everyone. there are two more forums this week. embattled pennsylvania attorney general kathleen cane scheduled to appear in court tomorrow, pretrial motion at the montgomery county courthouse. she faces perjury and obstruction charges. she's accused of leaking secret grand jury information to the media then lying about it under oath. a ruling expected tomorrow for a local nun accused of drunk driving in gloucester county. kimberly miller was arrested last november. this is dashcam video of that arrest. sister miller says after an event at a bookstore she went back to her north philadelphia convent, had a glass of wine and took an ambien to take her sleep. she has a history of sleepwalking and arthritic condition for which she takes

medicine. from our jersey shore bureau, dry air and gusty winds are fueling a high fire danger. the new jersey forest fire service is battling flames across south jersey right now. that includes a fire that burned about an acre of forest in buena vista township atlantic county. right now the fire service has tripled its normal amount of vehicles patrolling the region for wildfires. boy, people were fired up at city hall tonight. philadelphia city council held this public hearing on mayor jim kenny's proposed fiscal year 2017 budget and the so-called soda tax took center stage. mayor kenny has proposed taxing distributors 3 cents per ounce on sugary drinks to raise money for initiatives like universal pre-k and revital iizing communy centers. >> this tax would be a means to pay for universal pre-k, investment in our children which could help lift an entire generation out of poverty.

on the late baggage refund. >> i guess i need to get a bag lost, huh? >> reporter: you don't want to do that. >> definitely not. >> reporter: at philadelphia international airport, keith jones -- are you frustrated when the airline loses a bag? >> uh-huh. >> reporter: nbc 10 news. >> that same bill would make it easier for companies to use drones including packages and require drone owners to take an online test about the rules and how to handle the devices. there would be criminal penalties for using drones reckle recklessly. also new tonight from our delaware bureau if you're a delmarva power customer you'll notice a gift on your next bill. the company says customers will receive two separate credits this month and going into next month. one for about $122 and the second for $49.95. the credits are part of the new merger between exelon and delmarva's parent company. some wilmington homeowners are not happy with delmarva power installing gas meters in front of their homes. neighbors in the 40 acres

neighborhood call them eye sores. more than 100 residents signed a petition saying they don't want the meters in front of their houses. they say the meters could be kept in their basements instead. >> nobody needs or wants to see an industrial contraption, device and pipes bolted to the front of their home. it just doesn't make sense. it's bad for the property value. it's bad for the neighborhoods. >> a delmarva power spokesperson tells nbc 10 the outdoor meters are much safer and easier to maintain. a new treatment could be a game changer in the way doctors treat some of the most severe and devastating strokes. doctors say the use of a stent retriever in stroke patients could be revolutionary. the device is threaded through blood vessels into the brain grabbing the clot pulling it out of the body. a new study in canada showed 91 % of patients who got the treatment within hours of a stroke had minimal or no disability. 30th street station travelers might want to keep an eye out. >> the nearly 100-year-old
