now to decision 2016 where the political spotlight is turning to pennsylvania, the state's primary is just six days away now and a presidential campaign blitz is under way. voters in the keystone state have the power to make or break presidential dreams next tuesday. >> candidates and celebrities are all crisscrossing the state ahead of the primary. hillary clinton is in philadelphia right now. we're live where we'll hear from clinton in just a few minutes. >> reporter: jim and jacqueline, this is actually the first of two events in philadelphia for hillary clinton today. but this is not your traditional rally. let me sort of move out of the way and show you what's happening here today. you see the stage is set for a panel for the secretary to join in and the audience here, this includes people who have lost loved ones to gun violence and are working to stop gun violence. some are wearing t-shirts and some wearing buttons that have

pictures of loved ones they've lost. also part of the discussion here today will be former attorney general eric holder. he is on the campaign trail for hillary clinton. now, back in 2008, he was working with the obama campaign. just a few minutes ago, i got a chance to talk to him and ask him why this time he's working with hillary clinton. >> primary concern of mine is to protect the obama legacy. we've done a lot of good things over the past seven, eight years and she's uniquely qualified to continue what president obama has done with domestic issues and keeping americans safe with issues of terrorism and national security. >> reporter: this event here, as you mentioned, is expected to start in just minutes. just about 15 minutes from now. another issue we may hear talked about today is the community relationship with police. two of the people on the panel today are the mother of sandra bland who was found dead in a jail cell after a traffic stop and the mother of brandon tate who was killed by police in

philadelphia. so we'll bring you our report later on what happens here this afternoon. for now live in philadelphia i'm lauren mayk, nbc 10 news. bernie sanders may not be in town today but some of his big-name supporters are ice cream tycoons. ben and jerry were in rittenhouse square this afternoon. ben cohen and jerry greenfield hosted an ice cream social. the pair has been making the rounds throughout our area. just yesterday they campaigned for sanders in wilmington. right now hillary clinton has a double digit lead over bernie sanders in next week's pennsylvania democratic primary. that's according to a new monmouth university poll. clinton has the support of 52% of all likely democratic voters in the keystone state while sanders has 39%. republican ted cruz is looking ahead to pennsylvania after coming in third in new york last night. the texas senator held a rally at an antique car museum in

hershey today. he mocked donald trump's win in his home state of new york. and he said the media wants to convince them that pennsylvania is a suburb of manhattan. >> that's their telling, that's their telling, manhattan has spoken and pennsylvania is quietly forced into obedience. you know what? i've got a lot more faith inpen >> cheers for the senate's wife heidi cruz who was in our area as well today. freedom park in medford. she held a meet and greet with voters early this afternoon. mrs. cruz also campaigned in north jersey. she was set to visit the state back in march but had to reschedule. the presidential visits continue tomorrow. gop front-runner donald trump will be in harrisburg, john kasich visiting king of prussia and bernie sanders will be in reading and scranton. clinton and trump's commanding wins in new york have

put them even further ahead in the delegate count. this as they prepare for pennsylvania's primary next week. here's a look at where the race stands. trump leads with 844 delegates. ted cruz is nearly 300 behind trump and ohio governor john kasich is a distant third. as for the democrats, clinton leads sanders by about 700 delegates. sanders must now win 73% of the remaining delegates to catch up to clinton. for a complete decision 2016 coverage including the upcoming primaries be sure to tap the nbc 10 app. breaking news now. the philadelphia eagle just made a bold move that could mold the future of the franchise. taking a live look inside lincoln financial field. the eagles moved up and now have the second pick in next week's draft. but they have to give away several picks to do that. the last time the team picked this high was back in 1999 when the birds got franchise quarterback donovan mcnabb who

draft day station. we'll have exclusive interviews with the team's new decisionmakers, live guests and analysis from hall of famers. eagles draft day hair airs thursday, april 28th. sky force 10 was above as flames poured out of a burlington complex this morning. the fire broke out around 8:30 at the hunters glen apartments. they're helping residents find a place to stay. unclear just how that fire started. skyforce 10 also flew over this fire in warrington bucks county overnight. first this house on palomino drive went up in flame, then the fire spread to a car. fortunately firefighters were able to get it under control quickly and no one was hurt. >> now to traffic trouble that has proven to be a headache for thousands of drivers. skyforce 10 is live over the delaware memorial bridge where three southbound lanes are shut down for emergency repairs.

the work could take several days. nbc 10 delaware bureau reporter is live aboard skyforce 10 with more on what's wrong with the bridge. what did you find out? >> i found out traffic is oufl and people are really not happy about it. you see the work under way and as we pull out there and pan over, you see the bottleneck where traffic is barely able to get through. they had to cut the weight down on the bridge which means fewer cars. which means a heck of a lot of frustration. >> a catastrophe. >> that's what insome people call it. others say -- >> madness. >> reporter: whatever you want to call it, cutting traffic down to one lane on the delaware memorial bridge is causing major backups on the jersey side of the river. it's gridlock even on the side streets. i found lots of drives cutting illegally through medians just to escape the area. >> sesame street, endless sesame

street. >> reporter: that's how this guy is entertaining his daughter in the traffic that's barely moving at all. >> one hour like 300 yards? >> it was a little difficult today. >> reporter: even the bridge authority spokesman said it took him twice as long to get to work to today but the repairs are crucial. inspectors found two others that were compromised. this isn't work you could put off. it could become a very bad situation. >> there's over 200 cables on each bridge, and we're talking about three cables. for us to do this in an efficient manner, we have to limit the weight on the bridge. >> reporter: so that means they can only let one lane go by which means frustrated drivers are stacking up. the red lines on google maps shows all the overflow traffic. those of us who know the area are telling people to go north back over the commodore perry bridge. i did that. there was a backup but nowhere as bad. if you do end up stuck in traffic here, do what you got to do to stay calm.

>> we have to sit and relax and enjoy the music. it's a lovely sunny day. >> reporter: it is a lovely sunny day. chopper the best way to get over the river. i highly recommend it. when will this mess end? you can see it's a mess. they're doing their best, but they still say it's a fluid situation and could be several more days of work. i suggest avoiding the area, like we said. if you need to go from jersey over to i-95 on the other side of the river, try to commodore perry bridge, the walt whitman bridge or any of the bridges that will get you over the river and away from this area beneath us because it is very tight down. tim furlong, nbc 10 news. a court appearance full of surprises for embattled pennsylvania attorney general kathleen kane today. she made no comment as she arrived this morning. her defense team previously filed motions accusing reporters of leaking recordings to fbi

officials. it gave confidential information to a philadelphia paper which she denied under oath. but her defense team withdrew that motion. her lawyer called it all a distraction. >> i thought it was a distraction, to be perfectly frank with you. i've been in these hearings before. it's a mystery that's never solved. >> reporter: kane's defense team also asked for a week to file more papers. that could potentially delay the start of her trial which is set to begin in august. a judge ordered the man accused of shooting a philadelphia police officer over the weekend to remain behind bars without bail. 23-year-old scott griffin was arraigned early this morning on charges that include attempted murder and robbery. griffin is accused of shooting officer james mccullough sunday night after he interrupted a carjacking that griffin and another man allegedly carried out. griffin was arrested monday. officer mccullough is recovering after being released from the hospital. trial began today for the man accused of killing his girlfriend at millersville

university. jury selection under way the lancaster county courthouse for the trial of greg or why r oh, rrostieta. he's accused of murdering his girlfriend carlie hall. she was a student at millersville. orrostieta was not. reports show he called 911 and was giving hall cpr when medics got there, but prosecutors say that hall had been dead for hours. now to the latest on the water crisis in flint, michigan. today the state attorney general announced felony charges for three people in connection with the lead contamination of the city's water supply. thousands of people who live in flint have been exposed to lead poisoning. nbc 10's keith jones in our operation center with the latest. >> reporter: we have their names. city employee mike glasko, steven bush and mike prizby are all facing criminal charges.

glasko. he's accused of changing results to make it look like there was less lead in city water than there really was. the other have been charged with conspiracy to tamper with evidence and tampering with evidence. the state attorney general says more charges could be on the way. >> we'll follow the facts without fear or favor, and we'll go wherever the truth takes us. and in this case, wherever the e-mails take us. >> reporter: bush is on paid leave, prizby has another job in the same agency. prizby told him that additives the were not necessary to prevent lead contamination until after one year of testing. arraignment dates have not been set for any of the three men. keith jones, nbc 10 news. the nbc 10 investigators spent a month investigating lead in our area to keep you safe. you can watch their reports on nbc10.com and the nbc 10 app.

we have two stories just into the newsroom. volkswagen has reached an agreement with the feds to spend more than $1 billion over polluting vehicles. the money will come to owners of diesel cars who cheat on emissions tests. vwag vw aj acknowledged the cheating last september. also this just in, the $20 bill is getting a new look with a new face. u.s. treasury is replacing president andrew jackson with harriet tubman. jackson won't be completely removed from the bill. his image will be moved to the back. the treasury will make changes to the $10 and $5 bills. the new designs should be ready by 2020. now to the flyers quest for the cup. here is a live look at the wells fargo center where the team will take the ice less than three hours from now for an elimination game against the

some places in between are going to be dropping into the 30s during the night tonight. as you'll see a little bit later west bradford township 66, phoenixville 70. newtown 67, warrington 69, milford township 68. a lot cooler than it was yesterday we'll be warming up again. we cool down for one day. 70 for the high so far today. 75 tomorrow. then perhaps near 80 on friday. but at the same time, the pollen is not chamging. it's still extremely high. it's going to be that way tomorrow a tiny bit of a break on friday depending how much rain we get, then it goes back up over the weekend. this is time of year that the pollen will be high unless it's raining.

as we go through the neighborhoods tomorrow, we show you some of these low temperatures in the bottom numbers, then the high temperatures. notice the high temperatures are higher than today even in reading, up to 74 degrees. and as we look toward parts of south jersey, we find some temperatures in the 30s, 39 degrees in lynwood. and we'll get a chance of a little bit of frost in parts of the area. now, we're also looking for some rain. it's not very close. getting a little closer. some showers across now into indiana and, as we go through the futurecast, you see it is moving this way. eventually, we're likely to see some rain. it's not going to come until at least friday morning. there's friday at noon and this computer model doesn't even have the rain nearby. it does come in toward the afternoon rush, then maybe even a little line of thunderstorms coming through.

free repair program to anchor an estimated 27 million standing chests and dressers. the company now plans to extend that repair program, but it has not released the details. you might remember one of the children killed by a falling dresser was from our area. 2-year-old kurt collis died in 2014. his family has filed a lawsuit against ikea. you could call this a divine surprise. a pregnant woman in indiana says a holy image showed up on a recent ultrasound photo. we're going to show it to you. there it is. ali meyers picture appears to show an image of jesus on the cross right there. we're zooming in for you. she says she didn't even notice what looked like a crucifix until about a week later when someone pointed it out to her. the picture went viral. she likes to think the message is a subtle message from above. the path to the white house is now crisscrossing right through our area. >> the ads, they're picking up. and so is the amount of face

this is nbc 10 news. philadelphia is about to get a little greener. today the pennsylvania horticultural society loaded up hundreds of trees that will be planted all around our area. it's part of the plant 1 million campaign to restore the tree canopy across the region. the group hopes to plant all 889 trees starting friday and running through the weekend. new study says most americans live in areas with unhealthy levels of air

pollution, and unfortunately, that includes us. here's a live look at center city, philadelphia and the remaining 12 counties in our area got an f rating. now to camden where the news doesn't get much better. all the measured south jersey counties got an f as well, salem, cape may were not counted. rounding out the region, a look at wilmington where all three delaware counties got an f reading as well. the air quality report was released by the american lung association. the unhealthy air puts people at risk for health issues such as lung cancer, asthma and cardiovascular damage. both ozone and particle pollution can cause these dangers for the american public. life expectancy for white american women has fallen slightly. that's according to a new report from the cdc. and that means the caucasian girl born in 2014 could expect to live slightly past her 81st birthday. that's about five weeks less than 2013's prediction. researchers say drug overdoses,

you ready for it? we'll be seeing a lot of campaigning in our area over the next six days ahead of tuesday's primary. >> lauren mayk walks us through why presidential is so important to the presidential hopefuls. >> reporter: it is a very busy week, but the voting that happens on tuesday, that's really just the first step here because what these candidates are really after are the delegates that each state hands out. let's take a look at how pennsylvania and delaware do that. we'll start with pennsylvania and we'll start with the democrats. first of all, take a look at that number. 189 delegates. that's a big number, one of the biggest states out there for the democrats. and these delegates are handed out proportionately. both bernie sanders and hillary clinton could both end up with delegates here. take a look at how the republicans do it. theirs is very different, very unique. 17 delegates is what you get if you win the state of pennsylvania. but take a look at this number.

there are another 54 delegates out there who can vote for anyone they want at the convention. they're completely unbound. and these unbound delegates, you're actually going to vote for them on your ballot on tuesday, but you will not know -- it will not say who those candidates support. some of them have decided at this point, some of them have not. so that is a very unique part of the process here. let's take a look at how they do things in delaware. it is a smaller state, of course, but at this point every delegate counts. this is winner take all. then for the democrats, we've got 21 delegates. again, they are awarded proportionately after tuesday's election. i'm lauren mayk, nbc 10 news. coverage get the nbc 10 app.

now your first alert weather with chief meteorologist glenn "hurricane" schwartz. >> well, beautiful looking afternoon out there, near 70 degrees, philadelphia near 70 and most of the rest o the area, a little cooler in south jersey. it will cool off quickly tonight. this is in easton, 76 degrees by 9:00. you need a jacket and by 7:00 in the morning you'll need a jacket, too, because it's going to be chilly and even colder than that in other parts of the area. it will be a little chilly at the ballpark tonight. temperatures dropping to the mid-50s by 10:00. the wind blowing out a little bit. but not nearly as strong a wind as what we saw last night. the wind is blowing off the ocean now. we've got a sea breeze. the overall wind flow is light. and these winds are really going to diminish as we go through the night. only in the 50s at the shore. 54 degrees in atlantic city

right now while 64 may's landing. these inland areas will cool off dramatically tonight. humidity is extremely low and the winds will be light. so that means there could be some frost in inland portion of atlanta county and ocean county later this morning. there's a frost advisory for that. look at the satellite radar again, clear skies up and down the east coast, the rain getting a little closer, getting into indiana, but rain relief is coming for us. it's going eight straight days without a drop of rain. here we go on the futurecast as we go into thursday. the rain's getting into ohio. now it starts getting closer to pennsylvania, but that's still thursday night. so we're not talking about rain coming in here until friday. there we are friday at noon. just a few showers around the area and then as we go through the afternoon you see those little blobs of yellow and red.

that could be a potential thunderstorm coming through later in the afternoon and maybe another line of storms coming through during the evening hours. so it's rain that we do need and it's coming, and that's about our only shot for several more days to come. here are the temperatures as we go through this night tonight, by 6:00 a.m., 48 in philadelphia. in the suburbs it's dropping to 43. you see these temperatures going down pretty quickly. lehigh valley down to 41 and look at that. in south jersey, parts of the area going down into the upper 30s by tomorrow morning. then it's really going to warm up dramatically during the afternoon. 75 degrees tomorrow in philadelphia. close to 80 on friday with those showers and thunderstorms and then we start drying out on saturday. now, the showers could linger at the shore in southern delaware early saturday. sunday looks beautiful

everywhere. and then next week we have several chances for rain with temperatures back into the 60s and maybe by next friday we'll be sick and tired of the rain by then. >> all right, glenn. mosquitoes and the zika virus threat are forcing leaders at the jersey shore to make changes ahead of the summer tourist season. what they're doing to keep visitors safe during their short vacations, next.

there aren't any infected mosquitoes when visitors head to the coast. ted greenberg got a first look at how they're working to keep everyone safe. >> reporter: more than 40 different kinds of mosquitoes come through the labs at the cape may county department of mosquito control, but only one will soon be tested for the zika virus. >> i think it's very important to keep up on date with all these different viruses to protect our community. >> reporter: starting this summer, it will be the first county lab in new jersey to put a new focus on the asian tiger mosquito which is widespread in the garden state. it's capable of carrying zika, although there are still many unknowns about how well it can spread the virus. >> this is the way that we'll find out if the virus has, sin fact, gotten into those mosquitoes so we can then tailor our control efforts to those mosquitoes. >> reporter: zika can cause

severe birth defects. at this point it hasn't been spread by mosquitoes in the continental united states but has turned up in people who traveled to places where outbreaks are common, mostly blamed on the yellow fever mosquito which is not seen in our area. >> i'm hoping we don't find it. >> the chance of zika virus being an issue in new jersey are -- is extremely low. >> reporter: with that said, experts say it's important note that asian tiger mosquitoes like to bite people, and they're commonly found in urban and suburban areas where they can find standing water. >> it is extremely important to empty out all of those containers in your area that will be holding water throughout the summer. >> experts say zika has shown it's capable of quickly spreading. and should it become more of a threat here, they want to be ready. ted greenberg, nbc 10 news. nbc 10 news at 5:00 is next. here are keith jones and denise nakano. >> all new tonight on nbc 10
