campus ahead of the town hall. i guess the ohio governor is looking for love from a neighboring state. >> good morning. that's right. it's been a very busy week for all othose kajd dts. kasich may have lost out to republican -- republican primary rather in new york to donald trump, but he's pushing now, meeting with pennsylvania voters. hoping to make his message resonate with people here. with time running out, we've seen a major push from both democratic and republican presidential hopefuls, trying to get pennsylvania voters on their side. >> hello, philadelphia. >> last night, democratic front-runner hillary clinton spoke to a crowd add st. paul's baptist church. later today, her husband bill clinton is expected to be in harrisburg talking to folks there about her plan to raise income and tackle gun violence. >> you know what. i think we're going to win here in pennsylvania next week. >> senator bernie sanders

confidently predicted a pennsylvania win at his rally in erie earlier this week. he'll be in oaks montgomery county tonight, trying to drum up support there. >> if there is a large voter turnout, we will win. >> over on the republican side -- >> who can win in the fall? i'm the only one who consistently does it. and secondly, who actually can be the kind of a leader that can run our country? >> the fight continues with kasich going after trump, who according to a recent nbc survey monkey poll is behind trump by 18 points nationwide. kasich will rally in media and then attend a gop dinner and reception in king of prussia. as his opponent trump will rally with his supporters in the state capital tonight. tomorrow, trump will be in delaware, rallying at the fairgrounds. delaware and pennsylvania hold their primaries on tuesday. reporting live this morning, i'm pamela osborne, nbc10 news.

>> pamela, thank you. meanwhile, senator ted cruz is rallying voters in maryland. he's holding a campaign event at a theater in frederick. this is a live look right now. our sister station, wrc in washington, d.c., conducted a poll with marist earlier this month that shows cruz trailing trump in maryland by 12 percentage points. a lot at stake for the candidates on both sides in next week's primary contest here in our area. let's look first at pennsylvania. 189 delegates up for grabs for the democrats. for the republicans, the winner will get 17 at-large delegates, but voters will also choose 54 unbound delegates who can vote for anyone they want at the convention. in delaware, 16 delegates are at stake for the republicans. and 21 for the democrats. and right now, on the free nbc10 app, we have an entire section devoted to decision 2016. and all of the candidates. we send out news straight from

the low to mid 60s right now across the entire area. everybody's got sunshine. the temperatures fairly uniform. and in philadelphia itself, got lots of reports at the airport, it's 64 degrees. 62 in society hill. 66 degrees in somerton. and the forecast as we go through the rest of the day, temperatures going into the 70s, but we're not expecting any rain during the day today. in the suburbs, they'll still get above 70 degrees. we're talking about temperatures generally a little warmer than what we saw yesterday. and the exception is at the jersey shore, where temperatures should actually be falling during the afternoon. so look at this. 2:00, 65. by 6:00, down to 62 degrees. we do have moisture that's coming in from the west. rain is getting a little bit

we expect an official announcement from volkswagen on how the company plans to resolve a scandal involving diesel emissions tests. volkswagen must detail how it will make nearly 600,000 cars comply with clean air laws during a court hearing this morning. the automaker is also expected to announce a $1 billion deal to compensate owners. that agreement would give owners the choice of having volkswagen repair their cars or simply buy them back. the number of americans applying for unemployment benefits has reached its lowest point in more than 40 years. the labor department says that the number of weekly jobless benefit applications fell to 247,000. that's the lowest reading since november of 1973. the historically low figures show employers are holding on to workers and possibly looking to hire more people.

the sunshine this morning pushing temperatures up. already into the 60s in much of the area. and as we go through the afternoon, well, we're going to see temperatures go into the 70s. it's 64 degrees in philadelphia now. 67 by 1:00. by 3:00, 72. 5:00, 53. the high temperature itself may actually get up to about 75 degrees. what about the suburbs? are they warming up as well? well, yes, they are. north and west of philadelphia, avondale, 63 degrees. exton, 63. phoenixville, 63. chester heights already up to 65 degrees. warrington, 63. elroy, 64. st. david's, 66. so they're going to be 70 degrees pretty quickly out there. you can see some clouds starting to come in from the west. that is the sign of the advancing moisture. it's not all that impressive. we're not talking about a huge

amount of rain. but we are going to get some. we're warming again. we were only in the low 70s yesterday. we're going to be going into the mid-70s and then the 80 degree mark may be reached again during the day tomorrow. but needed rain is on the way. and you can see on our futurecast, nothing today. or tonight, for the most part. just an isolated shower. most of the rain, of course, will be coming tomorrow. and not even during the morning. here's the morning rush. generally dry. and then here come the clouds. a few showers, 11:00 a.m. later in the day, that's when we might see the heavier activity. especially toward the late afternoon and evening. look at this. this could be some thunderstorms moving through parts of the area. 7:00, and that could be some briefly heavy rain moving through along with the thunder. but it continues to move off.

some more showers. that's 11:00 at night. now we're starting the weekend here. and the moisture hasn't quite moved out. so we could see some lingering moisture for saturday morning. and you'll see that in the forecast. well, as far as the neighborhoods are concerned for tomorrow, temperatures up near 80 in fairmount, 75 degrees in bethlehem. we're expecting showers and thunderstorms in much of the area. of course, at the shore, those showers are going to come later in the day. there may be a little sunshine in atlantic city before the rain comes in. so we've got showers followed by sunshine in philadelphia, 80 degrees saturday is 70. looking dry there. watch what happens with our neighborhood weather. we can break this down. talking about dry weather for philly. but in south jersey, jersey shore and delaware, we at least have a chance of showers lingering into saturday morning. so we're able to break that down for you, and as you can see, the

in the 60s. rising into the 70s in most of the area. if you look at the general map, you might see elsewhere, 64 degrees in atlantic city. well, probably warming into the 70s, right? oh, no. southerly wind. sea breeze coming in. as we zoom into the shore, it's only 58 in atlantic city. 58 in holigate. it's not getting into the 70s at the shore. not with that kind of wind. 62 in ocean city. these are the kind of details we can see with the neighborhood forecast. and pin it down into your neighborhood, how things are going to change. in some cases, 5, 10 miles away. here's the satellite radar. a few of the first showers have made it into the state of pennsylvania. and as we go through the day today, we're going to see temperatures getting into the mid-70s. south philly at 75 degrees. in the suburbs, getting pretty close to that.

doylestown at 74. lehigh valley, 72. look what happens at the shore. atlantic city, i've only got going up one more degree and then maybe going down. wildwood, 62. lynnewood, up to 68 degrees. we'll talk more about the timing of the rain tomorrow and have the rest of a ten-day forecast in just a few minutes. >> all right, thank you, glenn. >> a texas driver was swept away when he tried to drive across a flooded bridge. he made it about halfway across the north texas bridge in his pickup truck. that's when the water became just a little too deep. look what it does. turns him sideways into the river. the pickup quickly became submerged. and the driver was able to crawl out the window. and luckily, swim to shore. >> elsewhere in texas, the cleanup continues after ferocious hailstorm damaged 80% of the homes in the city of wily. residents say the hail was

golfball sized and larger, even. several city owned buildings suffered serious damage as well. well, espn has fired baseball an lstz and former phillies pitcher curt schilling. schilling's termination comes after he posted an anti-transgender meme on his facebook page. the statement, espn said schilling has been advised his conduct was unacceptable. schilling played for the phillies from 1992 to 2000 and was inducted into the team's wall of fame nearly three years ago. >> philadelphia mayor jim kenny is banning nonessential publicly funded travel to north carolina and mississippi. and nbc10 has confirmed the move is in response to the new laws in those states which limit antidiscrimination protections for lesbian, gay, and transgender people. we have learned septa has pulled out of a transportation conference next month in the city of charlotte. >> the wwe wrestler known as

chyna has died. the coroner said joan lower was found dead in a home in redondo beach, california, yesterday. her manager said she was found lying peacefully on her bed. the coroner had no further information about her death and says the investigation is ongoing. laurer was 45 years old. >> and the olympic torch is now burning brightly. actresses dressed by citizens of ancient athens used the rays of the sun to ignite the flame in greece a short time ago. a torch will travel across the world before arriving in rio for the opening ceremony on august 5th. and of course, you can see it all right here on nbc10. the money in your wallet is about to get the biggest facelift in 100 years. 5s, 10s, and 20s all getting a new look, but the biggest change coming to the $20 bill, as tom costello shows us a former slave, harriet tubman, replacing president andrew jackson, a

representing the confederate states is bill mcgowan. thank you both for coming in today. when people think about the civil war they think about gettysburg. so why has this event in bucks town? >> it started 27 years ago. actually, as a fund-raiser. looking for a way to make money for preservation. and the state park just turned out to be a great place to hold it. >> and spectators are coming this weekend. how many people come and watch the re-enactment? >> in excess of 15,000, throughout the weekend. >> what can spectators expect to see there? >> well, they're going to see how camp life was back during the civil war. both on the union side and the confederate side. what they'll see is the soldiers actually doing soldierly things in camp. cooking their meals, cleaning their weapons, drilling.

doing minor repairs on their uniforms. the women in the confederate camp will be cooking and cleaning. taking care of the children. some families, there are families that come out. with their little ones and little ones will be dressed in period outfits also. >> it's april, so it's spring. it's still cool out there, but we're just looking alt your uniforms rr wearing. these are real life uniforms because they're wool. and underneath it is a wool vest. this is what they wore. summer, winter, didn't matter. >> didn't matter, plus they would have a long sleeved undershirt under that, and today you have boxers or briefs. back then, you had long underwear. and that was some sort of a flannel or some sort of a cotton. so basically, they had wool on 365 days a year. >> i suspect that alone helps you appreciate what these men and women lived through. a lot of re-enactors have

ancestors who fought in the civil war. tell about your background. in doing genealogy, did you find you had ancestors -- >> i did. >> i did also. go ahead. >> my ancestor fought gettysburg. chancellorsville. some of the biggest battles of the civil war. so that's what sort of drew me into it. >> bill, what kind of impressions do you have about your, and appreciation you have for your ancestors who lived through this difficult time in our history? >> we appreciate that they stood up for what they believed in. i had ancestors on both sides. and one of them actually received his parole by the union army at appomattox. i had a couple that were at gettysburg. and one interesting story is i had one that was his first battle was on mcpherson's ridge

and 69 in glasgow, reedy point at 68 degrees. already 70 at lincoln. and in lewes, delaware, they get the winds off the bay, and sometimes they're the coldest spot, but not today. well, we have quiet, dry conditions now. but it's not going to stay that way. the radar shows that the rain continues to approach from the west, into western pennsylvania. and the futurecast shows that it's going to be headed this way. but just clouds this afternoon. an isolated shower possible this evening. most if not all of the rain comes after the morning rush tomorrow. that's 11:30 in the morning. there's one of your first showers. we don't see anything widespread or heavy until later. here's the afternoon rush. 5:30, it's starting to get a little closer, coming into

chester county. and then, that's pretty heavy stuff. at 7:00, tomorrow night, that's heavy enough to potentially be showers and thunderstorms. but they move through. it's much needed rain. it will wash some of the pollen out of the air, but not everywhere. this is not one of those rains where everybody gets it. so is a problem. now, we have the rain totals out of the same computer model. nothing by 9:00 a.m. friday. by friday evening, not much at all. but by saturday morning, it's a different story. it's about a half inch. a little more north and west. a little less to the south and east. but some of that rain might linger at the shore all the way into saturday morning. so the forecast, 80 degrees tomorrow in philadelphia with the showers and storms. not quite as warm in other portions of the area. and you can see even at the

jersey shore tomorrow, it's going to be warm because there will be more of a west wind and the showers may linger in south jersey, jersey shore, and delaware, into at least saturday morning. so that's the one thing that we're concerned about. we'll update this, of course, this afternoon. your own seven-day forecast, of course, at the bottom of the screen here. constantly, and not the philadelphia. this is the philadelphia ten-day that we have just debuted in the past week. and you can see that we have some chances of rain tuesday, wednesday, and thursday of next week. it's not a dry pattern anymore. we'll be right back. modres: the cost of living the pay stays the same. i have to work extra hours just to make ends meet. it's a big struggle.
