prince's home in minnesota. good morning, i'm vai sikahema. as music vans mourn the death of prince, we're learning more about the details for the search for answers. medical examiners will conduct an autopsy on the music legend today. a minnesota sheriff said deputies called prince's compound yesterday, found prince unresponsive in an elevator. medical personnel tried cpr but could not revive him. a source with direct knowledge of the events tells nbc news that last friday, prince's flight from atlanta to minneapolis was diverted to illinois because of an unresponsive male of the plane. natalie morales has more from minneapolis. ♪ purple rain purple rain >> overnight, a sea of purple for prince. >> i can't believe he's gone. >> heartbreak and disbelief. >> i have a really hard time understanding that he's dead. >> i was blown away by how much

73 degrees with mostly cloudy skies in philadelphia. lots of high clouds so far, not rain producing. pennsylvania suburbs warming to 69 degrees at this hour, and already in the 70s in south jersey, there lehigh valley, and delaware as we go through the day, sunshine will disappear for much of the area and showers will develop. 80, though, this afternoon for philadelphia, and a warming trend across the entire area. as far as rain is concerned, so far, it's dry. clouds, though, already producing showers in western berks county. you can see i-78 and those extend into lancaster county and harrisburg, light rain. no heavy rain so far. we'll see heating in the atmosphere. even though it doesn't look impressive right now, that line of showers is on the huv. as temperatures warm up, we could see thunderstorm development later today. i'll go through the forecast hour by hour in a few minutes. vai. >> thank you, bill. now to decision 2016. the push for votes continues in

our area today with several candidates holding events in pennsylvania and in delaware. vermont senator bernie sanders was set to attend a breakfast in west philadelphia to discuss economic issues. sanders' rival hillary clinton will make an appearance in montgomery county within the hour. she'll discuss equal pay for women. later, she'll attend an event in lackawanna county. she campaigned in hartford yesterday, where she criticized what she calls an organized effort to intimidate and silence proponents of gun reform. meanwhile, happening now, ted cruz is campaigning in williamsport. he's holding an energy and jobs town hall meeting at a construction company. later today, cruz will hold campaign rallies in skrantden and allentown. and republican front-runner donald trump is holding a rally this afternoon in harrington kent county after a series of nubs, he's hired his first speechwriter and is practicing

with a teleprompter, another he did not use a script in a rally in harrisburg last night. he said he was hesitant to tone down his campaign rallies. >> my wife is constantly saying, darling, be more presidential. i just don't know that i want to do it quite yet. >> well, trump calling his republican opponents to drop out of the race and said democrat bernie sanders is finished. republican presidential hopeful john kasich was also busy campaigning here in our area. he stopped in media and also was in king of prussia yesterday. pennsylvania is a state where he needs support. >> any vote for me is a vote for me. it isn't a vote for somebody else. and i need the support here, so i can have momentum going into the convention. >> kasich is last in the hunt for delegates among republicans. he said unbound delegates are critical to his campaign. he has an event later today in

connecticut. we're covering each candidate's visit to our area today. tap the nbc10 app for updates from the campaign trail. philadelphia police are looking for the man they say assaulted a woman in south philadelphia earlier this week. take a look at these photos right here. authorities say early wednesday, the man grabbed a woman walking at 13th and wharton and forced her to the ground. the woman fought back and sprayed mace in his face. he then ran off. if you happen to recognize this man, you're asked to call police. this morning, police in wilmington are awaiting autopsy results after a 16-year-old girl died following a fight in a high school bathroom. students who were dismissed early yesterday return later to howard high school of technology to grieve. the soft more who was attacked died later from her injuries, so far, no charges filed and students are back in school this morning. and cambn county police tell nbc10 a fire that burned half a dozen houses in camden was

deliberately set and they have a suspect in custody. they forced two dozen people out of their homes. medics took two adults and five children to cooper hospital to be checked out for smoke inhalation. >> and police took a driver into custody on suspicion of dui after a crash in the nicetown neighborhood of philadelphia sending four people to the hospital. the suv driver hit a parked car causing it to flip to the sidewalk, landing on two pedestrians there. one person became trapped under the car. that victim is listed in critical condition at einstein medical center. >> let's get a check on the roads with jessica boyington, checking to see what's happening out there. what are you seeing? >> we actually are watching really easy commute right now. roads are really relatively light. we're watching 95 light. around the vine expressway, too, no big delays in either

secretary of state john kerry is marking earth day by joining with world leaders at the united nations to sign a commitment to fight climate change. more than 170 countries are lining up to sign the agreement on climate change today. the first day countries could do so. signs that don't sign today have a year to do so, and many

observers now expect an agreement to go into effect long before the original deadline of 2020. the secretary of homeland security rejected a plan to use a color coded scheme to measure border security. a consultant to secretary jeh johnson dismissed the idea as simplicistic and misleading. they proposed a system of red, yellow, and green colored warnings in 2014. it was never made public until now. >> and president obama had a royal lunch today with britain's queen elizabeth. the president and first lady michelle obama stepped off marine one at windsor castle where the queen and prince philip greeted them. they plan to have dinner with prince william, his wife kate, and william's brother prince harry at kensington palace. >> following his visit with the queen, president obama met with prime minister david cameron at 10 downing street. london's mayor criticized the president for writing an op-ed that supported britain remaining

in the european union. the uk is facing a june referendum on the issue. we'll have more on the trip to great britain coming up at 11:30. we had a cool start this morning, but certainly wasn't cold, and the temperatures have been climbing. that's in spite of sunshine starting to fade. especially fading in the lehigh valley. 70 degrees, though, and looking close to it in the pennsylvania suburbs, delaware in the low 70s right now. south jersey, bright sunshine there, a few high clouds and 74 degrees. up to 73 degrees in south jersey. just yesterday morning, we saw temperatures in the 30s, well into the 70s now. medford, 76 degrees. look at piny hollow at 73. and pitman at 75. for burlington county, pemberten, lumberton, into the low 70s, and florence is up to 72 degrees and climbing. a couple spots are going to hit

80 degrees this afternoon. got the seven-day forecast scrolling at the bottom of the screen. one 70 for each part of the area. south jersey has its own seven-day forecast. all dry this morning, but the clouds have been increasing. showers are on the way. most of the showers are going to be later rather than earlier. the forecast rain totals show some wet weather moving through philadelphia. this by 9:30 this evening. as we go into the early morning hours, could see a total of a quarter inch in philadelphia. a bit more for west chester. a potential we'll see thunderstorms pop up with some downpours, and that's a possibility to the west, and by saturday morning, there may still be a few scattered showers in the area first thing on saturday morning. maybe slow to clear to begin with, but we will see sunshine by the end of the day if not a little before that on saturday. for today, the winds have been increasing. this is helping to boost our temperatures. now, a 13-mile-per-hour wind in wilmington. up to 17 miles per hour at the shore. sunshine, even though it's

fading, we're getting that nice warm-up. the rain to the west, that could start falling during the early afternoon hours. see some light showers moving in to the new castle county in delaware and philadelphia, too. the showers will continue on and off this afternoon. not looking all that impressive. but by the afternoon commute, some wet weather, especially likely in delaware and south jersey. if you're headed out during the evening hours, the best idea is to take an umbrella. today, forecast, neighborhood by neighborhood. 80 in south philadelphia. phoenixville with clouds coming in, 73 with a chance of showers for bethlehem, and 75 degrees. south jersey, near 80 degrees. that sunshine will be fading with a chance of showers during the afternoon and evening hours. the jersey shore will be running cooler right at the coast. 67 degrees, atlantic city. wilmington, up to 80 this afternoon. there's a chance the blue rocks game tonight could see wet weather, but i don't think it's going to be a wash out. and then moving forward through

the weekend, showers to start with, in fact, even a chance of some showers on saturday morning but the wind will clear us out saturday afternoon. 60s for delaware, up to 70 degrees in philadelphia. then sunshine will be nice and bright on sunday. a chilly morning sunday, but warming into the 60s, low 60s for the jersey shore. upper 60s and low 70s for the rest of the area. in fact, south jersey could be up to 71 degrees on sunday afternoon. that's the weekend forecast. there's the seven-day or there was the seven-day at the bottom of the screen. coming up in the next half hour, the ten-day outlook and nbc10 exclusive. >> all right, thank you, bill. it's a penalty of uber proportions. still ahead, why the company was hit with a record fine.

april is national child abuse prevention month, and these figures are really jaw dropping. it's estimated that 10 to 20% of all children will be the victims of child sexual abuse before the age of 18. there are a lot of resources that are here in our area to help victims of abuse. abbey newman is the executive director and ceo of mission kids, child advocacy center based in montgomery county. thank you for being here. boyerse those numbers are so surprising, i think, to a lot of people. when it comes to abused kids, half of the abusers are typically in the home or family members. is that right? >> that's true. and child sexual abuse, that's

exactly the sad fact of what happens and always why it's such an underreported crime, because people don't want to talk about family members or neighbors or people in the school or clergy. >> tell us about the work that mission kids does. >> we help to coordinate child abuse event investigations in montgomery county between the police, children and youth services and the district attorney's office. that way when a child is able to come forward and is brave enough to talk about what happened to them, they don't have to be interviewed numerous times. they can come to our child friendly center and talk once and have it recorded. >> this isn't like 30, 40, 50 years ago. resources for children who have been abused have expanded. there's a lot of them out there, right? >> there are 800 child advocacy centers across the country. in pennsylvania, the southeast region, we're very lucky. most of our counties have accredited child advocacy centers. that's not true for the rest of pennsylvania. only 26 of them have child

advocacy centers. >> when we talk about child sexual abuse, we have to talk about law enforcement. tell me how law enforcement works with mission kids. >> they're fabulous. we have gift different police departments and all of them have signed on so that if there is a case of suspected child abuse, rerth than interviewed the child by themselves, they bring the child to mission kids where they'll ask the questions in a very age appropriate and neutral fashion. so they get what they need for their investigation without the child being retraumatized by the interview itself. >> abbey, thank you so much for coming, and being an advocate for children who don't have voices out there. we appreciate you coming in. >> thank you so much, vai. >> thank you. there was no one quite like prince. as we continue to mourn the loss of the music legend, we're learning new details uthis final moments and the questions investigators hope to have answered later today. and making a difference, comcast cares day is coming up. how you can be a part of the

showers in these areas, and a possibility of some spots getting thunderstorms, too. take you through the next ten days, show you when sunshine is going to be back when i come back, vai. >> thank you, bill. >> now to breaking news. authorities are announcing the results of a drug investigation in delaware county. a total of 15 people are under arrest. pennsylvania attorney general kathleen kane just announced those arrests. she says the suspects were dealing cocaine in chester. the investigation began last january. >> the investigators determined that these characters sold at least $5 million to $15 million worth of cocaine on the streets of chester city for that 50-week period of the investigation. >> the attorney general says the drug operation was based in chester's bennett homes housing development. >> and a ride sharing service uber agreed to pay $100 million to settle a class action lawsuit. the suit claimed uber drivers are employees, not independent

contractors. and are therefore entitled to reimbursement of expenses. meanwhile, pennsylvania's public utility commission voted to fine uber more than $11 million for operating without approval twost years ago. they drew criticism for continuing to operate for six months in 2014 after being issued a cease and desist order. a spokesperson for the san francisco based company says it plans to appeal. and a mercer county community will come together today for a public memorial service for robbinsville school superintendent steven mayer. the service happened this afternoon in princeton followed by a private memorial tomorrow. we're learning more about what happened moments after the car hit and killed mayer. the 17-year-old driver called 911 tuesday morning while parked outside pond road middle school in robbinsville. prosecutors also say she told dispatchered she believed her

car hit someone on robbinsville while she was on her way to the high school. mayer and his dog both died following the crash. classes in robbinsville resumed yesterday after a two-day closure to mourn his death. the schools there are closed today to observe passover. >> family and friends will gather this evening to remember a marine from malburn who was among a dozen marines killed when two helicopters collided off the north coast of the hawaiian island of oahu in january. a viewing takes place for brian kennedy. it starts at 7:00 p.m. at st. patrick's church, where mourners will attend a funeral mass for kennedy tomorrow morning. the military is still investigating the crash which happened in a routine night training mission. ♪ god bless america >> that's lawrence hart with an

emotional tribute to ed snider. thousands of fans, players, and alumni filled the wells fargo center yesterday afternoon to remember the late franchise owner. the flyers return to the ice tonight as they once again try to keep their quest for the cup alive. but they will be without their center, scott laughton, who was injured in game four. he took a nasty spill into the boards during game four wednesday, and the crew had to carry him off the ice on a stretcher. hit his head hard there against the bottom of the boards. he was in the hospital thursday night. the flyers say he's been released and is doing well. however, he will not accompany the team to washington. as for the series, the flyers need a win tonight over the capitals in order to continue their season. and if you can't make it down to d.c. for the game, you can the official game watch party at xfinity live. they'll show the matchup on their 32-foot screen, and the

of community vestment for comcast, and he's here with christina chang the comcast director of procurement. comcast is of course the parent company of nbc10 and telemundo 62. thank you both for be here. bob, you have been involved, 15 years now, and it's going strong. you have been involved with it every year. how has it evolved over the years that you have seen? >> it has gotten bigger in every way. number of volunteers, the number of projects, the impact on our community. and most of all, the excitement and the passion among our employees and their friends. all have increase significantly. >> what kind of projects will comcast be a part of this year? we have done different things over the years. you remember some of them. >> i remember you with your knees in the dirt. >> it's fun. >> planting at the garden and painting at the germantown boys and girls club. we really appreciate the support from nbc10. just about every project that you can think of. we mostly paint, clean, repair, and landscape. we'll be at parks, recreation centers, schools, boys and girls

clubs. we'll be working on projects that are affiliated with the disabled community, with veterans, with homeless and hunger. it's really an incredible opportunity to make an impact in the community. >> and speaking of that, christina, you're a local girl. you went to high school here, central high school graduate. >> that's right. >> you're doing something involving your alma mater. >> this year, i'm leading a airs day project at central high school. we will be landscaping the east patio, building benches, painting walls, school doors, cleaning up the school lawn, and repainting a mural. we'll have 250 volunteers. next week, they will consist of comcast employees, friends and family, current students, alumni, parents, and faculty. this speaks to the strength of the community, and i'm delighted to bring comcast to central high school on the 15th anniversary of cares day to help make change happen. >> well, if you're not a comcast employee or family member or any

out of the southwest, boosting our temperatures. at the shore, right at the shore, it's going to be cooler. the ocean water temperatures still in the low 50s. that's going to keep cape may point, ocean city, and holigate in the 60s. inland, with sunshine coming through, high clouds, no problem warming into the 70s. upper township at. already 78 degrees in mays landing. high clouds so far. hats all we're seeing on the satellite imagery at the shore. look to the west, you can see mostly cloudy skies. there's the rain, it's been moving through central pen. and just at times falling in berks county and lehigh. in the lehigh valley. there are some spots where it's coming down heavier. take a look at this. showers and some thunderstorms moving through verge. you can see, that's trending toward delaware and south jersey. and it's those showers that could produce evening downpours in delaware and south jersey. richmond is just starting to see that rainfall. it's got a ways to go before it

moves into our area. the most several hours, most of the area will be completely dry. it will change this afternoon. futurecast shows at 3:30 this afternoon, very light scattered showers. trenton, you might see a sprinkle. and some scattered showers into lancaster and southern chester county. then as we go into the evening hours, that's this evening at 6:00, look at the rain coming down in delaware, into northeastern maryland, into south jersey, cape may will get some showers. then at game time, just after 7:00, that's a rain forecast in the wilmington area, but it may be tapering off just in time for the start of the game, but it looks like umbrellas will be going up in the evening hours. a chance of showers with us even into saturday morning, though it's not a big chance for showers in our area. passover this evening, 80 degrees this afternoon. showers developing, scattered this afternoon. a better chance of evening showers. tomorrow, morning shower is possible. then we're clearing out. the wind is picking up. that will keep us in the low 70s

for tomorrow. sunday, though, a chilly morning. 47. 70 degrees is the high temperature. look at the warmup for monday. 81 degrees. election day could feature showers and thunderstorms. more likely later in the day than in the morning. then we're drying out for wednesday. a chance of some more on thursday. just a chance. possibly some thunderstorms up to 74 degrees. and then there it is, looking towards next weekend. 70s for friday and saturday. just a little bit cooler, but still very nice for sunday. so here's this weekend. a chance of morning showers. then sunshine on sunday and saturday, 76 degrees, and indeed, pretty good looking weather for next weekend. your ten-day outlook on nbc10 and exclusive. vai. modres: the cost of living the pay stays the same.
