you hear three different gunshots. >> police know who the shooter is. we will tell you why he is not in custody tonight. first, new at 11:00, a man is shot and killed seconds after talking to a local political candidate in philadelphia. the murder sparked a violent night in the neighborhood. good evening. a spokesperson for pennsylvania house candidate chris rabb says he heard gunshots seconds after giving his campaign pitch to the 21-year-old victim. he had been canvassing for votes along vernon road when the deadly shooting happened this afternoon. nbc 10's andrea kline top as joins. >> reporter: residents tell me the neighborhood is like this all quiet. but it looked much different not that long ago at this hour an

18-year-old and 21-year-old are dead. a 17-year-old was grazed in the head. the incident brought out the police commissioner who is frustrated the second shooting was not prevented. family and friends flocked to the 1400 block of vernon road where a 21-year-old lay dead, shot twice in the head, just after 3:30 this afternoon, outside of the m and f supermarket. >> i seen the police cars. i had no idea that it was someone in my family. then my nephew says, he is gone. >> reporter: minutes before, he was talking to chris rabb, campaigning to become the state representative. according to the campaign manag manager, the 21-year-old said he wanted to work with the candidate. seconds later, a man walked up to the 21-year-old and shot him before running away. >> very frustrated by the fact that we were not able to prevent this second homicide. >> reporter: four hours later,

an 18-year-old is shot in the back in the 8000 block of temple road. he was pronounced dead at the hospital. a 17-year-old is grazed in the head after what police describe as a drive-by in retaliation to the earlier shooting. >> this is the first i've seen anything like this. it's very disturbing. >> reporter: police say both groups in the car and on the sheet were firing at one another. the commissioner says he believes it's gang related. >> we do believe that these are two rivaling factions. what they are fighting over, we haven't pinned that down. >> reporter: unnerving for a community not used to this type of violence. the candidate just happened to be canvassing in that area at the wrong time. we're told that he has given a statement to police. officers will be out here in force trying to get to the bottom of this. right now, no arrests have been made. if you have any information to

give them a call. tonight, a gunman is free and cooperating with police after shooting a man to death inside a montgomery county church in the middle of sunday's service. it happened around 11:00 this morning during services at keystone fellowship church on stump road in north wales. it left dozens of church goers ducking for cover fearing someone may have been targeting their congregation. the sound of gunfire interrupted sunday service at keystone fellowship church. nbc 10 obtained audio of police radio dispatch. >> all units active shooter montgomery township. >> it sounded like the three pops almost like a champagne bottle opening three times. >> the music stopped as a law student says she and others, including children, drop ped to the ground. >> make yourself as small as possible. could you hear some screaming, some crying. it was silent. >> joe feared his daughter and

granddaughter were caught in the cross fire. >> to hear my daughter saying she was under the seats of the church and not knowing if the person was coming up and down the rows shooting, i'm glad that that didn't happen, that there weren't more lives lost. >> police found the 27-year-old shot in the chest. the district attorney says an argument turned into a fight inside the church and the shooter is now cooperating with investigators. >> we're going to have to determine whether the shooting was justified under the law. we are still interviewing witnesses. >> the shooter is not in custody while police continue to interview witnesses. an autopsy on the victim is scheduled for tomorrow. breaking news in decision 2016 coverage. working together, that's basically what two presidential campaigns are doing to stop donald trump from getting the republican nomination. john kasich's campaign announced that they would clear a path for

ted cruz in the upcoming indiana primary and shift resources to other states. cruz's campaign acknowledged it will clear a path for kasich in oregon and new mexico. both campaigns are hoping to force a contested convention in cleveland where each believes they can win. the news comes as our region is in the national campaign spotlight. we are just two days away from the primaries in pennsylvania and delaware. the polls open tuesday morning at 7:00 a.m. pennsylvania's democratic governor campaigned for the democratic front runner for president today. governor tom wolf and hillary clinton came together to speak to the congregation at triumph baptist church. clinton says one of her campaign platforms is the need for criminal justice reform, including right here in philadelphia. >> i visited a program here in philadelphia ten days ago that is doing the work of trying to

help young men get the skills they need, get the opportunity to apply for a job. we need to -- >> clinton spoke about the need for early childhood education and better funding for philadelphia school district. ros rosario dawson was on the trail for sanders supporters. sanders himself will be back in philadelphia tomorrow. today on "meet the press" bernie sanders admitted his path to victory is narrow. a poll shows he is not likely to win in pennsylvania. the new nbc news/wall street journal/maris poll shows clinton has the support of 55% of the democratic voters in pennsylvania compared to 40% support for sanders. on the republican side, donald trump has an even more commanding lead. he is polling at 45% support

from likely gop voters in pennsylvania. that's compared to 27% for ted cruz and 24% for john kasich. the republican candidates will be back in our area tomorrow. but they were focused elsewhere today. >> thank you, everybody. what a crowd. wow. >> gop front runner donald trump rallied for support in hagerstown, maryland. voters there will head to the polls tuesday for their state's primary. cruz is looking ahead to next tuesday's primary in indiana. he and his family appeared at a campaign rally in evansville tonight. he told supporters he is banking on a big win in indiana and that he considers the hoosier state his battleground state. the republican and presidential candidates will continue their campaign blitzes in our area

of the screen scrolling across for your area. not just the philadelphia area seven-day anymore. the temperature trend is going to continue up for the next couple of days. 70 saturday and sunday. 76 monday. 82 on tuesday. but then it starts going back down. nothing coming down from the sky for a while. we have clear skies now. we have some showers back across the great lakes. the real heavy stuff is way out to the west. some big thunderstorms in the middle of the country. it's going to be severe weather over the next couple of days. we're going to get just some of that moisture as we go into election day. we're not going to be getting it during the day tomorrow. there we are tomorrow afternoon and still sunny. then tomorrow night, clouds come in. we could see a few showers late tomorrow night and into tuesday morning. there we are tuesday first thing. it's not all that wet for election day to start off with. but as we go through the day and

remember the temperature is up to 82, it's a warm, humidity day. there come the showers, 3:00 in the afternoon. watch what happens later in the day. this could potentially be a line of strong thunderstorms right during the afternoon rush coming through southeastern pennsylvania and then going down toward the shore as we head towards 6:00, 7:00. and then we start to clear out. as we go through the day tomorrow, no rain anywhere. lots of sunshine. temperatures in the mid 70s. pick out your neighborhood. we have forecasts for everybody. at the jersey shore, 62 for high in atlantic city. it's not as warm as the rest of the area. the severe storm threat as we go through the week, highest way out in middle of the country. a major area of severe weather. we have a slighter risk in our portion of the country. this would be on tuesday with that line of thunderstorms that you just saw.

as you notice, in the 40s in some of the suburbs. as we go through the night tonight and into tomorrow, look at that, 70 by 1:00 in philadelphia. some of the suburbs similar temperatures by 1:00. a colder start to the day. 43 at 5:00 a.m. in the lehigh valley. still, getting up close to 70. even by early afternoon. the jersey shore, not getting up as warm. the wind will be coming in off that cooler ocean. as we go into the day tomorrow, we are going to be seeing a lot of sunshine. no moisture that close. we have some showers across parts of the great lakes. but there's not a lot of it. it's going to take a while to build up and come into this area. as you can see, it's not going to be coming in for a while. we're talking about election day though. i will have the timing on that with a full forecast in a few minutes. authorities say an argument between two church members ended

with one of them shooting the other during services this morning in montgomery county. it happened inside the keystone fellowship church. authorities say the gunman is cooperating with police and he has not been charged. a man was shot and killed seconds after talking to a local political candidate in philadelphia. a spokesperson for pennsylvania house candidate chris rabb says he heard gunshots just seconds after giving his campaign pitch to the 21-year-old victim. hours later, an 18-year-old was shot and killed on the same block and a 17-year-old was grazed in the head. news from the nbc 10 south jersey bureau. police say a man shot and killed a woman at a birthday party at his home. police are charging the 42-year-old for murder. they arrested him after they say he shot the 35-year-old woman in

the chest. police got calls about the shooting around 11:00 saturday night. he will have his first court hearing tomorrow afternoon. new at 11:00, a cat was killed, three other animals rescued when a house went up in flames in frankfort. crews were called around 4:30 and had the fire under control about a half hour later. two cats and a dog were rescued. they are in emergency care. investigators are working to determine the cause of that fire. today, hundreds of people marched through downtown baltimore to remember the death of freddie gray. >> one baltimore, one vision. >> organizers said the march was to show solidarity with gray's family. he died a year ago and protests erupted. they say the movement symbolizes a message of change.

delaware, to the south, greenville at 48, glassgow 47. fe kenton, 45. we have all of these numbers here. we can show you any part of our area. we also have the seven-day forecast scrolling constantly for your area, not just philadelphia anymore. this is what neighborhood weather is all about. we have got dry conditions now. going to have a lot of sunshine during day monday. some moisture starting to approach from the great lakes. but more of it is back to the west. look at that. big thunderstorms. they're not moving this way directly. but we're going to get a little bit of moisture from that as we head toward election day. we have been telling you for a week, we're likely to see rain for election day. and we're still telling you that. that may just be the beginning of a wet weather pattern. here we are during day monday. nothing much going on until --

this is after midnight tomorrow night. 24 hours from now, we start to get showers. as we go into tuesday morning for election day, may not be that wet. but it's not going to stay that way. take the umbrella with you on tuesday because here come the showers, especially in the afternoon and into the evening hours. there's the potential in the afternoon rush. pretty heavy thunderstorms moving through with some gusty winds possible. then we start drying out on tuesday night. setting us up for dry weather wednesday. but it's not going to stay that way. now, it will be dry during the day monday. take a look at the neighborhoods. to the south, not quite as warm at the jersey shore, because we're going to be seeing the sea breeze. over the next ten days, there's the warmest day and the day with the strongest thunderstorms. coming in election day.

we dry out wednesday. and then look what happens thursday and friday. it gets wet. it gets colder. and that potentially lasts into next weekend. we have several days with threats of rain. nobody is going to be complaining about it being too dry by the time we get to next weekend. >> the nfl draft is quickly approaching. we will hear from north dakota state qb carson wentz about the possibility of playing in philadelphia. there's a silver lining to accompany the doldrums for the flyers. we will explain next.

the flyers feel a lot better about themselves now compared to when they were down three games to none in this series. they fought back. they left everything on the ice. >> 100%, we were positive we will take it to game seven. unfortunately, we didn't. >> last two months, we gave everything we had. it's obviously frustrating to be out here right now. >> i don't think anyone gave us a chance to make the playoffs. i'm proud of every single guy. we push it to the limit. we busted our butt all year long. sometimes you don't get the breaks. that was it. they're a good team. they were the best team in the league all year long. i think could you see that out there. >> the flyers said the playoffs are a completely different level from the regular season. it was a great experience. >> it's good experience. of course, we wanted to go a different way. you learn from everything and
