18-year-old and 21-year-old are dead. a 17-year-old was grazed in the head. the incident brought out the police commissioner who is frustrated the second shooting was not prevented. family and friends flocked to the 1400 block of vernon road where a 21-year-old lay dead, shot twice in the head, just after 3:30 this afternoon, outside of the m and f supermarket. >> i seen the police cars. i had no idea that it was someone in my family. then my nephew says, he is gone. >> reporter: minutes before, he was talking to chris rabb, campaigning to become the state representative. according to the campaign manag manager, the 21-year-old said he wanted to work with the candidate. seconds later, a man walked up to the 21-year-old and shot him before running away. >> very frustrated by the fact that we were not able to prevent this second homicide. >> reporter: four hours later,

an 18-year-old is shot in the back in the 8000 block of temple road. he was pronounced dead at the hospital. a 17-year-old is grazed in the head after what police describe as a drive-by in retaliation to the earlier shooting. >> this is the first i've seen anything like this. it's very disturbing. >> reporter: police say both groups in the car and on the sheet were firing at one another. the commissioner says he believes it's gang related. >> we do believe that these are two rivaling factions. what they are fighting over, we haven't pinned that down. >> reporter: unnerving for a community not used to this type of violence. the candidate just happened to be canvassing in that area at the wrong time. we're told that he has given a statement to police. officers will be out here in force trying to get to the bottom of this. right now, no arrests have been made. if you have any information to

give them a call. tonight, a gunman is free and cooperating with police after shooting a man to death inside a montgomery county church in the middle of sunday's service. it happened around 11:00 this morning during services at keystone fellowship church on stump road in north wales. it left dozens of church goers ducking for cover fearing someone may have been targeting their congregation. the sound of gunfire interrupted sunday service at keystone fellowship church. nbc 10 obtained audio of police radio dispatch. >> all units active shooter montgomery township. >> it sounded like the three pops almost like a champagne bottle opening three times. >> the music stopped as a law student says she and others, including children, drop ped to the ground. >> make yourself as small as possible. could you hear some screaming, some crying. it was silent. >> joe feared his daughter and

granddaughter were caught in the cross fire. >> to hear my daughter saying she was under the seats of the church and not knowing if the person was coming up and down the rows shooting, i'm glad that that didn't happen, that there weren't more lives lost. >> police found the 27-year-old shot in the chest. the district attorney says an argument turned into a fight inside the church and the shooter is now cooperating with investigators. >> we're going to have to determine whether the shooting was justified under the law. we are still interviewing witnesses. >> the shooter is not in custody while police continue to interview witnesses. an autopsy on the victim is scheduled for tomorrow. breaking news in decision 2016 coverage. working together, that's basically what two presidential campaigns are doing to stop donald trump from getting the republican nomination. john kasich's campaign announced that they would clear a path for

the chest. police got calls about the shooting around 11:00 saturday night. he will have his first court hearing tomorrow afternoon. new at 11:00, a cat was killed, three other animals rescued when a house went up in flames in frankfort. crews were called around 4:30 and had the fire under control about a half hour later. two cats and a dog were rescued. they are in emergency care. investigators are working to determine the cause of that fire. today, hundreds of people marched through downtown baltimore to remember the death of freddie gray. >> one baltimore, one vision. >> organizers said the march was to show solidarity with gray's family. he died a year ago and protests erupted. they say the movement symbolizes a message of change.

u.s. ground troops in harm's way. still the chancellor says is the president's closest confidant in europe. it was repaired after damaging revelations three years ago that u.s. spy agencies were listening to her phone conversations. ron allen, nbc news, traveling with the president in germany. we went a week and a half without a drop of rain. we had some on saturday. and now we're going to get into a week where there's going to be enough you will be tired of it. no rain tonight. none dur ing the day tomorrow. pleasant conditions. up to 70 degrees both saturday and sunday. but things are about to change. we have been showing you some of the neighborhood weather temperatures. it's, of course, much, much warmer in the city of philadelphia, upper 50s in some areas. look how much colder it is in

delaware, to the south, greenville at 48, glassgow 47. fe kenton, 45. we have all of these numbers here. we can show you any part of our area. we also have the seven-day forecast scrolling constantly for your area, not just philadelphia anymore. this is what neighborhood weather is all about. we have got dry conditions now. going to have a lot of sunshine during day monday. some moisture starting to approach from the great lakes. but more of it is back to the west. look at that. big thunderstorms. they're not moving this way directly. but we're going to get a little bit of moisture from that as we head toward election day. we have been telling you for a week, we're likely to see rain for election day. and we're still telling you that. that may just be the beginning of a wet weather pattern. here we are during day monday. nothing much going on until --

this is after midnight tomorrow night. 24 hours from now, we start to get showers. as we go into tuesday morning for election day, may not be that wet. but it's not going to stay that way. take the umbrella with you on tuesday because here come the showers, especially in the afternoon and into the evening hours. there's the potential in the afternoon rush. pretty heavy thunderstorms moving through with some gusty winds possible. then we start drying out on tuesday night. setting us up for dry weather wednesday. but it's not going to stay that way. now, it will be dry during the day monday. take a look at the neighborhoods. to the south, not quite as warm at the jersey shore, because we're going to be seeing the sea breeze. over the next ten days, there's the warmest day and the day with the strongest thunderstorms. coming in election day.

we dry out wednesday. and then look what happens thursday and friday. it gets wet. it gets colder. and that potentially lasts into next weekend. we have several days with threats of rain. nobody is going to be complaining about it being too dry by the time we get to next weekend. >> the nfl draft is quickly approaching. we will hear from north dakota state qb carson wentz about the possibility of playing in philadelphia. there's a silver lining to accompany the doldrums for the flyers. we will explain next.

the flyers' quest for the cup came to an end this afternoon in a loss. there are a few silver linings to the loss. for more, here is john clark. >> going into the off season,

the flyers feel a lot better about themselves now compared to when they were down three games to none in this series. they fought back. they left everything on the ice. >> 100%, we were positive we will take it to game seven. unfortunately, we didn't. >> last two months, we gave everything we had. it's obviously frustrating to be out here right now. >> i don't think anyone gave us a chance to make the playoffs. i'm proud of every single guy. we push it to the limit. we busted our butt all year long. sometimes you don't get the breaks. that was it. they're a good team. they were the best team in the league all year long. i think could you see that out there. >> the flyers said the playoffs are a completely different level from the regular season. it was a great experience. >> it's good experience. of course, we wanted to go a different way. you learn from everything and

take everything in stride. >> for him and everyone, it's huge. games are so tough. physical, hard. for all of us to get a taste, including him, it will be helpful for the future. that's what we need going forward. >> after the season ended, flyers fans stayed classy. they gave the team a standing ovation. >> let's go flyers! let's go flyers! >> those are the philly fans we know and love. they are here through thick and thin. i think that was really classy of them. obviously, giving us an ovation like that. we really did give it everything we had all year long. obviously, we know we came up short. but it's not for lack of effort. like i said, we're going to be building off this for next year. we will come back bigger, stronger, faster. thanks, philadelphia fans,

that's for sure. >> i'm john clark for comcast sports net. >> the nfl draft is four days away. while eagles fans are awaiting the selection of the quarterback of the future, the rams have the first pick. like it or not, they are the ones who will ultimately decide if the eagles get goff or wentz. hard to believe the eagles who traded from eight to two without knowing who the rams would take. yesterday, wentz was asked by the nbc affiliate in fargo, north dakota, do you know where you are going? >> i will know when everybody else knows. it's a very anxious time. i tried to stay away from it. my agent has been filling me in. we really don't know. i will be excited when i hear my name. >> philly, that's a hard place to go in and be -- it's a sports town. they love it. did they warn you? did they ask about that?

how easy is it coming from where you are the only show in town? >> they brought it up. growing up, you see the eagles fans when they had donovan mcnabb. he was a legend there. that's how they are in philadelphia. if that were the case, i would embrace it. it's part of it. will hold myself to high expectations wherever i go. some of it might be deserved. we will see what happens. >> the draft is thursday. that's sports. we'll be right back.
