"nbc 10 news" starts now. right now the pennsylvania and delaware's crucial roles in decision 2016. they're working hard to win votes. hillary clinton has events in wilmington and philadelphia. bernie sanders will also meet supporters in the city. on the republican side, donald trump will hold a rally in westchester and john kasich is visiting a south philadelphia diner. now ted cruz and kasich are taking on a new campaign of sorts. they're joining forces to block donald trump from getting the delegates necessary to claim the gop nomination this summer. our live team coverage begins now with "nbc 10's" pamela osborne who's live in wilmington

new castle county. former secretary of state hillary clinton is about to hold a campaign event. pamela, house's the turnout? >> reporter: vai, a lot of people lined up to get inside to get the opportunity to hear her speak. we spoke to a couple of people who were at the front door. this event is open to the public. they're filled to capacity. no more people going in right now. the crowd here is incredibly diverse. there are people of all ages, really just looking to hear from hillary clinton herself before they head to the polls tomorrow. some of the people we've spoke to say they are preparing to vote in their first primary in presidential elections, and that this is an important next step in feeling confidence in their vote. hillary is expected to talk about raising income for families, gun safety and eliminating economic, social and racial barriers. we spoke to one teen from the charter school of wilmington. the designated youth governor there. he isn't able to vote this time but he wanted to be informed.

he wants everyone else to be no matter which candidate you choose. >> into the selection, it's fantastic to see a lot of my peers get involved in the electoral process. i'd like to see how she thinks she can reach out to the youth of america. >> reporter: former secretary of state clinton should be taking the stage. wou we'll have a fresh new live report from you. i'm pamela osborne, "nbc 10 news." meanwhile clinton's rival held a rally this morning, bernie sanders, in connecticut. he told a crowd in hartford that democracy is under assault due to the supreme court's citizens united decisions. >> to allow our kids -- >> ted cruz is holding a campaign rally. the senator is speaking to supporters at a winery in the southeastern part of that state. indiana is one of the states that cruz is focusing his attention. governor kasich has shifted resources away from indiana to clear cruz's path. tonight the democratic

candidates for president will be in philadelphia to speak to voters on the eve of the pennsylvania primary. msnbc will host back-to-back town halls with hillary clinton and bernie sanders. the candidates will take questions from voters at the national constitution center. host chris hays will host the sanders town hall. rachel maddow will host the clinton town hall that will follow at 9:00. a new polling shows sanders has an uphill battle to win tomorrow's primary in pennsylvania. the new nbc news wall street journal marist poll shows clinton with 55% support compared to 40% for sanders. in the republican race, donald trump has an even more commanding lead in pennsylvania. he's polling at 45% now among likely gop voters. that's compared to 27% for ted cruz and 24% for john kasich. free "nbc 10" app is a great resource to have ahead of

tomorrow's primary to track the candidates and send you push alerts from the campaign trail. philadelphia's police commissioner is speaking out again this morning after the shooting claims the life of a young man. seconds after he spoke with a political candidate. a spokesperson for pennsylvania house candidate chris raab said that he heard gunshots moments after he made a campaign pitch to the victim. this happened while he was canvassing for votes along vernon road in east mount airy. rabb was not hurt. alex cherry was the victim. a few hours later more gunfire nearby killed another young man and wounded a 17-year-old boy. "nbc 10" spoke to police commissioner richard ross about the investigation. >> we don't think it had anything to do with the politics, i think it just had to do with the wanton violence that you see sometimes in the streets of big cities. and it's just ridiculous behavior. people don't seem to care about what the back drop is and who's

around. >> police believe the shootings are connected. he expects that video to be released to the public in some form. police are asking anyone with information to contact them. the family is out of their home this morning after a fire. crews were called to heartville street in philadelphia's kensington neighborhood. "nbc 10" viewer sent us this video of the scene. an adult and child were inside the home when the fire started. the red cross is helping them this morning. no one was hurt. and investigators are calling a fire in frankfurt neighborhood suspicious. a cat was killed. the fire started at the home on leiper street yesterday afternoon. it rekindled last night but it is now out. now your "nbc 10" first alert weather. sunny and warm day -- start

of the day across our area as we take a live look now from our presidential city apartment. man mantioch in the background. >> vai, it's a nice looking day. beautiful day yesterday, too. the temperature going up higher today. up to 64 degrees in philadelphia now. with sunshine and just about the same across much of the rest of the area. and we are going to be going up into the 70s, well into the 70s in many parts of the area. in the lehigh valley already 65 but heading well into the 70s, not a whole lot of wind during the day today. both of those conditions are going to change as we go into tomorrow. into our local neighborhoods here in philadelphia, pretty uniform temperatures in the mid 60s. 62 degrees though in society hill. the cooler spot in the city right now. but we're going up until at

least the mid 70s in philadelphia. no rain during the day today or into the early evening hours. some of the pennsylvania suburbs, a little farther north and west not quite as warm this afternoon. and in the lehigh valley, getting into the 70s but by 10:00 tonight there's a chance of some showers. this is why we break down the forecast neighborhood by neighborhood. same story in delaware we have that chance of showers, even a thunderstorm by 10:00 tonight and also at the jersey shore where it won't be anywhere near as warm as the rest of the area. temperatures are actually dropping during the afternoon. we have the chance of showers coming in. there is no rain very close. not even a whole lot of cloud cover that close. we are going to be seeing an increase in the threat as we go into the rest of the day. the time line on that coming up in just a few minutes. we'll see you then, glenn. an autopsy will be done on the man shot to death inside a montgomery county church sunday

service. another church goer fired the shots at 11:00 a.m. according to investigators, 27-year-old robert braxton, a member of the church was involved in an argument with another church member. during the altercation at least one shot was fired. braxton was hit in the chest while other parishioners ducked for cover. >> we were worshipping and you hear three different gunshots right and everybody went on the floor and was hiding. everybody was trying to make themselves as small as possible. you could hear some crying, but it was pretty silent. >> braxton died at the hospital. alleged gunman was treated and then released from the hospital. he is cooperating with police. they say he had a conceal carry permit. police say he was justified. until then there are no charges. a town hall will be held to talk about the death of a

16-year-old girl involved in the fight inside a bathroom. amy joyner francis died after the fight at the howard high school of technology on thursday. her friends tell us she was a peace maker who always stepped in to stop fights. the town hall tonight at stubs elementary will allow the community to talk about what happened and how to prevent future incidents. the governor, attorney general, the mayor and other officials are expected to be there and to speak. police are -- hope newly released surveillance video can help them find the man suspected of breaking into a car and stealing credit cards. investigators say this happened on easter weekend in south philadelphia. surveillance cameras caught the suspect using the stolen credit cards at the wawa on air ra mingo avenue. if you happen to recognize this man wearing the baseball cap, you're asked to call police. time now to get a check on the roads. early -- what, 11:00, 11:09 with

katy zachry. how are the roads looking out there? >> hi, vai. very different story from 6:09 when we talk about traffic. things are looking pretty good on most of our majors. this is a live look at the schuylkill expressway around belmont avenue. you can see this direction is headed westbound. this eastbound into center city philadelphia. now westbound you're not seeing a problem on this stretch, but earlier there was a roving work crew on the schuylkill expressway between 95 and route 1. it was really tying things up, but i've watched this drive time get better and better over the last few minutes. so i think you will have a fine drive if you were on the schuylkill expressway between 95 and route 1. so 76 we've touched on. 95 southbound, this changes all the time. a half hour ago we had a lot of stop and go southbound around cottman, around gerrard but things are looking pretty good. only 15 minutes that drive will take you to go between wood

morning and it comes a week after 200 troops are headed to iraq to help battling isis. meantime, president obama toured a trade show in hanover, germany, today with german chancellor angela merkel. the president is praising mer kehl's ha -- merkel's handling of the refugees. a brussels metro station opened up today. officials say the bombing didn't cause any structural damage to the station but the ticketing area needed some superficial repairs. they erected a tribute wall where people wrote words about the vomiting victims. terrorists set off a bomb at the metro station and two others at brussels airport. in all, 32 people were killed. isis claimed responsibility.

degrees in harrington and felton. a. allen dale, 69 degrees. we're up to 77 degrees in fairmont, westchester 74. bethlehem, 74 degrees. fairly uniform temperatures in many places except at the shore. bay city is only going to be 62. right where we have a sea breeze and elsewhere it's going to be a little bit warmer in delaware. a few high clouds coming across the sky right now. the main action is going to be way out to the west. not even this stuff that you see up across the great lakes stuff. we swr wahave warmer weather. tomorrow, 82 degrees.

then as we've been saying for a week or more, election day thunderstorms. not going to rain all day, but we do expect some thunderstorms around. here's the future cast by 8:00 a.m., just a few showers. most of us not getting rained on but as we go through the day, we have a front coming down. showers, maybe some gusty thunderstorms coming through but as we go after 8:00 tomorrow night, things are going out. then it is going to get wet again starting thursday. this is the area that's going to get hit the hardest during the day tomorrow. right in the plains states as you can see. tornado outbreak there, but the greatest chance of any severe weather in our area is parts of southeastern pennsylvania and down into new jersey. so that's something to watch during the day tomorrow. and there it is.

the idea is that cruz would concentrate on indiana, kasich would concentrate on oregon and new mexico and they would stop donald trump from getting the nomination. now kasich was just here at the penn rose diner just about 20 or so minutes ago. we were here as he went in to shake hands with people, take some pictures and do some final campaigning here in pennsylvania before this primary tomorrow. now inside there were supporters of his. there were also volunteers who have come here from all over the country to help him with his campaign. i talked to some of them about what they think about this new arrangement. they told me they like it because they do want an open convention where governor kasich would have a possibility of getting the nomination. here is what john kasich had to say about it himself. >> i'm not going to go tell anybody how to vote. they can -- look, i mean, this is a matter of resources and, you know, we are running a national campaign and we want to

"nbc 10" first alert chief meteorologist glenn hurricane schwartz is here with that answer. hey, glenn. >> hi, vai. we're going to be seeing some of the high clouds starting to come in now, they're thin but they're going to thicken up later today and tomorrow is going to be a pretty cloudy day. the temperature is rising into the mid 60s just about

everywhere across the region. one exception, right towards the jersey shore with the wind coming in off that cooler ocean. only 56 degrees in atlantic city, 59 at summers point while it's already into the upper 60s to near 70 degrees in inland areas. we're going to see that kind of temperature contrast for the rest of the day. just some high thin clouds coming across now. no impending rain but of course we are going to be seeing some of those changes later on. you can see a mix of sun and clouds, mainly those high clouds coming across this afternoon. even a place like reading and bethlehem up into the mid 70s. so it's going to be warmer than it was yesterday everywhere across the area except perhaps right at the beaches. but even there it's going to warm up tomorrow. we'll see how warm it's going to get. the timing on that rain that's coming for at least a part of election day in just a few

minutes. and the world continues to mourn the loss of rock star prince. the music icon's body has been cream mated but his family has not disclosed the final resting place of his remains. fans are remembering, meanwhile, how he lived but still wondering how he died as nbc's joe fryer shows us. even those closest to the star are searching for answers. >> reporter: private during his life, prince's death is now shrouded in mystery. the autopsy complete but toxicology tests still pending. questions swirl around what the results will reveal. it will likely take weeks before the medical examiner issues a report on how the superstar died. >> prince lived a very healthy life, a vegan, and he certainly had no addictions that we are worried about. >> close friend londell mcmillon spoke with prince five days before his death. >> he said he was doing perfect. we now understand that he was not in the best of health, however, perhaps he's in a

perfect place now. >> reporter: over the weekend close friends and relatives held a private service at paisley park celebrating the legend's life. music shan and prince's one time girlfriend sheila e. was there. >> you grabbed who you could to hug and cry. we were in disbelief as to, you know, is this real? >> sheila e. says that prince's family would like to have a public celebration of his life featuring band mates and people he's performed with over the years. it's still unclear exactly when that might happen. in the three days following prince's death neilson says more than half a million prince albums were sold along with 2.3 million songs. joe fryer, nbc news, chan hassen, minnesota. meanwhile, new orleans will pay tribute to prince today with a jazz funeral. there will be a marching band

and release of white doves. meanwhile, our sister station in dallas reports an official announcement is expected today in the case of former browns quarterback, johnny manziel. there are reports that he's been indicted on an assault charge. manziel is accused of hitting his ex-girlfriend during a dispute on january 29th in dallas. sources told a dallas radio station that he was indicted on a misdemeanor assault with bodily injury charge. the florida man who tried to travel the caribbean inside an inflatable ball had his trip cut short. the ultra marathoner agreed to let the coast guard rescue him yesterday. he's now back on dry land. coast guard officials had looked at his plan and determined that it would be unsafe, but he tried anyway. he could face a $40,000 fine for violating that order.

a second and final vote is expected this week on wildwood's intention to ban hoverboards. officials fear the people would sue if they get injured while riding the hoovverboards. if the ban passes, it will be in effect by memorial day weekend. apparently moms aren't the only ones who can multi-task. dad who left the baseball game with a baby in one hand and a souvenere in the other had quite a story to tell. >> had it all the way. you need your sunglasses today and probably umbrellas tomorrow. i'm tracking the stormy primary day weather. timing of it and what you can expect to see where you live just ahead.

and who you serve. >> we are a family lives on. we support children ages 3 to 18 who have experienced the death of a parent. we help fund an activity that they did every year until they turn 18 an it's part of a therapeutic service to help them through the grieving process. >> why did you settle on children and teenagers, that specific age, that group? >> there's many different reasons. it's such an impressionable time in the developmental stage, those years. it's a great way for them to know they aren't a loern and their activities and memories are important about their parent. it helps them stay connected with their parent through the years even though they are no longer there presently. they're always with them and their memories. >> did you guys have a personal experience with this as children or with your own families that's made it powerful for you guys to be involved? >> i can speak to that.

my father died when i was older, but i think you're always a child when your parent dies. so it's very touching for all of us to be involved with this organization. >> tell us what's in store for the race on saturday? >> it's going to be a lot of fun. it's always been a good time. i'm actually on the board of directors. to find out more about the foundation, we have a brand-new website, family lives on.org. that was created by j 2. there's tons of sponsorships still available. my company has been sponsoring. it's a fun event. you can run, walk, push your kids. it's not a broad street event. it's really casual and fun or can you put your children actually in the event. toddlers in the toddler run. it's a good family. >> tell me what the response has been from the kids who have gone

meteorologist glenn hurricane schwartz. >> we got up to 70s in the last couple of days and today is going to be even warmer. it's going to be in the 70s just across the entire area. in philadelphia we're going well into the 70s. then it's not going to drop that much in the night tonight. similar story, for example, in reading, wilmington. it's going to be a warm afternoon and not a very cool night. not as cool as the last couple of days. the neighborhoods in parts of south jersey, some places getting up to 70 degrees already. pittman, audubon, medford at 72 degrees. elsewhere it is -- oswego lake getting up near 70 and only 66 degrees at princeton. 66 degrees in mount laurel. so, again, with the neighborhood weather we can focus in on any part of the area.

we also give you your seven day. different seven days across all different parts of the area scrolling. we have a bit of soggy weather for election day. you don't see anything that's threatening right now, but there will be. that's what the computers are for, future weather computers, to show what's likely to happen as we go through the next couple of days. so we have clouds increasing a little bit today and into the evening. later tonight could be a couple of showers moving through. by day break tomorrow in the morning rush, we're not talking about a whole lot of rain around, just some isolated showers. later in the day that's when we start seeing some more widespread showers, maybe even some heavy thunderstorms moving through and you can see that in the afternoon rush. later on in the evening hours

that all clears out to the south and east. so we're going to be getting kind of scattered amounts of heavier rain. tomorrow night everybody is going to get it. we are going to get it warmer. dropping into the 60s on wednesday. similar stories across much of the rest of the area and what about the ten day forecast. so it looks like the warmest day is going to be election day. 80 degrees. we drop some more thursday. 58 degrees with an east wind and rain. that rain lingers into friday. even over the weekend we have threats of at least some rain. looks like the most would be later sunday and into monday. these temperatures a little bit below average and chances of rain go into the middle of next
