flonase. 6>1 changes everything. right now at 11:00, five candidates, five states. all eyes inory area on pennsylvania and delaware on this crucial day in decision 2016. polls are now open across pennsylvania and delaware, and here's a live look at a polling place in philadelphia's neighborhood. voters in both states have until 8:00 p.m. to cast their ballots. within the past hour, democratic candidate bernie sanders was out greeting voters at reading terminal market in center city, philadelphia. the vermont senator is down in the polls but says he's fighting all the way to the democratic national convention here in philadelphia in july. good morning. i'm vai sikahema. as voters in our area head to

the polls today, a new survey shows where the race stands nationally. donald trump has reached 50% support from republicans and republican leaners nationally for the first time since the beginning of the nbc news survey monkey tracking poll. texas senator ted cruz in second place with 26%. ohio governor john kasich is third with 17% support nationally. governor kasich joined the "today" show this morning to discuss his deal with the cruz campaign to pull out of indiana. the move was designed to let each campaign place their resources in the states where they had the best chances to win. kasich is still telling his indiana supporters to vote for him. >> i have not told anybody to not vote for me. i'm just not there campaigning. when you don't campaign in certain areas in any kand of a race, guess what? your turnout goes down. i don't tell people how to vote. >> kasich went on to say he

expects there to be a brokered convention in cleveland and he hopes to emerge as the nominee. >> on the democratic side, hillary clinton now has a ten-point lead over bernie sanders nationally. clinton's lead is up one point from last week. and before his appearance in philadelphia this morning, democratic hopeful bernie sanders was on msnbc's morning joe to discuss his chances to win the nomination and whether he would support hillary clinton if she becomes the nommy. >> first of all, i do not accept there is no path for us. let's not count our chickens before they're hatched. there are five contests today. the state of california, last i heard, the largest state in the united states of america, has not yet cast a ballot. >> sanders says if he does not win the nomination, he will do everything he can to make sure that a republican does not end up in the white house. pamela osborne is live at a polling place. she's tracking voter turnout.

how is it looking? >> vai, a lot of people coming in today. i have to tell you, i just got off the phone with the committee of 70, they help keep an eye on polling centers. they tell me there are more than a million registered voters in the city. we have seen many of them stopping by polling centers like these all morning long. >> every vote counts. if you don't vote, you don't count. >> it didn't take the people turning out at the polls any time to figure that out. the finley rec center was buzzing with people weighing in on the record in the way it counts most. >> i vote all the time. >> we bumped into timothy shank at a nearby polling center inoa. >> this is a critical time. >> he tells us he's less than thrilled with the tone of this year's election. political watchdog group committee of 70 tells me that may actually help voter turnout. during the past four or five presidential election seasons they say voter turnout has varied from 20% to 50%.

it's still early on in the day, but they're anticipating anywhere from 400,000 of philly's registered voters to hit the polls. while the numbers are subskrekt to change, the reason behind each individual hasn't really. >> i had to set an example for my 4-year-old so when she becomes 18 years of age, she knows, i have to vote for my rights. >> and we ended that piece with that mother and daughter because there's something really unique about this election period this time. we're talking about 400 election ambassadors at the polls some time today. these are students, younger people that they have been getting out to get people energized about coming down to the polls. also, about 40 people are going to be working the call centers in case you have questions, all day long. reporting live, i'm pamela osborne, nbc10 news. >> thank you. four democrats running for u.s. senate in pennsylvania. they're small business owner joseph babarka, katie mcginty,

tom wolfe, and john fedderman. and former congressman and former navy admiral joe ses tack. they'll try to unseat pat toomey. >> sestak voted this morning. he lost the senate race to toomey six years ago, and he's hoping for a rematch. and his rival, katie mcginty voted this morning in delaware county. she won the endorsement of president obama and vice president biden. >> in the race for pennsylvania attorney general, democratic battle, between northampton county d.a. john morganelli, josh shapiro, and steven zapalla. they voted this morning. his family joined him as he cast his vote before becoming a montgomery county commissioner, shapiro was a state commissioner. he earned president obama's

endorsement in the a.g. race. >> john rafferty is facing federal prosecutor joe peters. kathleen kane is facing criminal charges, decided not to run for reelection. >> another race we're following is the one in the pennsylvania second congressional district. incumbent democrat voted this morning in east falls. he's hoping to hold on to his seat while dealing with federal corruption charges. >> real results for the people of philadelphia. and we're going to do a lot more. that's what today is about, winning an election so we can continue this work in washington. and we're excited that the voters will get a chance to step forward and have their say. >> he has represented his district since 1995. one of his challengers is pennsylvania state representative dwight evans. evans cast his vote this morning at the finley rec center in west

thunderstorms in the forecast for this afternoon. this first batch of showers is not potential severe weather that we're talking about for later today. but coming right into philadelphia area now. what is something that we're going to be watching is up in this area, up in new york state right now, and that's going to develop into a line of storms and move in the general direction of philadelphia during the afternoon. and that's the area that has the best chance of getting some severe storms with strong gusty winds, maybe some hail. that's southeastern pennsylvania, much of new jersey, and all of delaware, potentially getting some of those severe storms. here's the futurecast. you can see, by 2:00 this afternoon, we're starting to see some of those storms developing and getting close to the lehigh valley. by 3:00, it's even past allentown, headed to southeast pennsylvania. by 4:00, right into the philadelphia area.

right during the afternoon rush. and whielg a lot of people are trying to vote. and at 5:30, it's already moving past philadelphia and mostly south jersey and delaware getting affected. it's very warm outside across most of the area, but not in allentown. 58 degrees there. while it's 74 in philadelphia. just a tremendous temperature contrast, but it will warm up in allentown as well. now, we're expecting generally dry conditions in philadelphia. at 2:00, and by 6:00, it may be over. so it's in between 2:00 and 6:00 where we're getting the thunderstorms and temperatures get into the 80s. in the p.a. suburbs, by 6:00, still some showers and storms, but we're dry this evening. lehigh valley, getting the showers and storms by 2:00. 6:00, a chance still of a shower or thunderstorm. in delaware, we wait until around 6:00 to get the showers

and storms. look how warm it is, in the 80s. and then it's over with by 10:00. in new jersey, we have the threat in the area by 2:00. temperatures in the 80s. by 6:00, still that threat, and at the jersey shore, it should stay dry by 2:00. by 6:00 and later this evening, we have that storm threat. more on the forecast for just where you live coming up in a few minutes. >> all right, see you then, glenn. later today, parents and student will meet at howard institute of technology after a 16-year-old died in a fight in a bathroom. a town hall was held there last night to talk about the death of amy joyner-francis last thursday. there are three people of interest and charges should be filed by the end of the week. >> a huge ball of fire swallowed up a delaware county home this morning. fire crews tell us it started on dogwood hill lane at about 2:00 this morning. it took crews about two hours to

put it out, completely engulfed in fire. luckily, no one was hurt. and we'll continue to track and see what happens there. time now for a check on the roads with jessica boyington. how is it looking out there in the 11:00 hour? >> we're seeing a little delays because of construction. we're looking at the ben franklin bridge. not a lot of backup, but we have some construction vehicles blocking two lanes headed westbound into the city. this continues on to the vine street expressway. headed westbound, we earlier had a disabled tractor trailer, that's clear. after the disabled tractor trailer, you're going to run into some construction on the schuylkill as well. so some delays there. also in upper township in new jersey, an overturned vehicle tying things up on the parkway headed northbound. the right lane is closed. bye. >> thank you, jessica. >> up next, right move?

members of a montgomery county church said they're in a shock over a deadly shooting in sunday's services. hundreds of members attended a fellowship. that's another campus at the same church where 27-year-old robert braxton was killed. the shooter and braxton had been fighting. the shooting suspect is cooperating with police. there are no charges while the investigation continues. espn is reporting the lakers will consider jay wright for their head coaching opening after wright's big win with the wildcats is now reportedly on the short list for the head coaching spot with the lakers. now, the lakers fired byron scott on sunday. so far, wright hasn't shown any interest in the pros. and the villanova spokesperson told us they don't comment on speculation. >> well, a new quarterback controversy, the eagles acquired the number two draft pick in the

nfl draft last week, and the team is widely expected to take a quarterback. and that apparently is not sitting well with current eagles starting qb sam bradford. bradford's agent confirmed last night in an interview on sirius nfl radio that his client is in fact requesting a trade out of philadelphia. take a listen. >> sam's a competitor. and he wants to go someplace and know he's the man. he just doesn't want to be there holding the place card. none of this is personal. it's just business. >> just business. eagles vice president of player personnel sat down for an exclusive interview with our john clark yesterday u and john asked the question on everybody's mind. >> has sam bradford informed you guys he wants to be traded? >> you know, john, i want to reiterate our support for sam bradford. i go back to our statements of last week. sam is our starting quarterback. his agent and sam know how we feel about him. these workouts are voluntary.

59, white hall, 58. nazareth, 57. bethleh bethlehem, 58. pretty chilly. just one county away, it's 68 degrees in hopewell. 67 in reading. 68 in sinking springs. that's the kind of detail we can see, and that's the kind of differences that we get in weather around here. now, we can show them to you. we can also show you different seven-day forecasts. you can see it all the time. always up there. and for different areas. this is not just a philadelphia seven-day anymore. we have some showers coming right into philadelphia now. just some light showers. we may even see the sun come out later. this is the yare your we're going to watch for lines of thunderstorms developing later that could potentially lead to some severe storms with some strong gusty winds and hail. we'll keep an eye on that, from southeastern pennsylvania down through delaware. and that would be, of course,

when this line of storms comes down. there's 2:00, and it's just getting close to allentown. 3:00, it's in parts of bucks and montgomery countys. berks county. by 4:00, it's right across philadelphia and up through lower burks and into portions of delaware. just barely getting into northern delaware at 4:00. by 5:30, it's mostly out of there in philadelphia, but watch what happens here. the moisture doesn't exactly keep plunging down to the south. the clouds hang around. by 9:00, still getting showers and storms by cape may and into southern delaware. and more showers coming across later tonight and maybe even into tomorrow morning. so can't exactly promise you it's going to be bright and sunny tomorrow. things may stall like that. now, as we go through the day today and tonight, that westerly wind turned into a north wind.

reading at 74. phoenixville, 77. west chester, 77. newtown, 78. everybody has that threat of thunderstorms today. haddonfield, 81. we have special events coming this weekend. comcast cares day looks like it's going to be dry on saturday. temperatures going into the 60s. and for the blue cross broad street run, we have the expo on friday, may be some rain then. saturday, again, looks basically dry, on the cool side. the expo continues there. and the race itself at 8:00 a.m. on sunday. 52 degrees at the start. warming up to 65 by noon. and right now, the odds favor dry weather for that. it's not going to be dry this afternoon.

get ready for a celebration of music, of crafts, food, and fun this weekend in delaware county. it's time for the third annual hadderferred spring festival. tom is here to talk to us about it. welcome back. as i said, there's food, there's fun. there's all kinds of vendors. but really, this is about the music. this could be called a music fest instead of a spring fest, right? >> it is, a music and arts festival, vai. we've got great bands onstage, and we also invite artisans and crafters to sell their wares, display their wares, and of course, food from all over the philadelphia area. >> just saw a shot of the crowds. how many would you say? 10,000, 15,000? >> about 10,000 people we expect this year. and it's growing every year. it's really a terrific day on the brookline boulevard in

havertown, and it's a great fund-raiser. >> you mentioned the fund-raising. who do the proceeds help? >> kelly music for life is a nonprofit that produces this event as well as other events. and the money that we gather from these events goes back into music education. sadly, music education and arts programs are the first to get cut. >> cut all over the country. >> and it's really not right. we feel strongly about how essential music is in people's lives. it's important to us that we keep that music alive. >> now, this festival is, again, the third year. it's still relatively new. what kind of response, the feedback from those who come and participate or are just there? >> the community loves it. i mean, we get not only people from haverford township, about half of the people who come to the festival are from the immediate area.

proportionally based on total votes. for the republicans, the winning candidate automatically gets 17 delegates, but there are 54 unbound delegates up for grabs. and those unbound delegates can back anyone they want. >> you can kind of find out by doing a little research who they kind of say they're going to maybe support. they might say that support the state-wide winner or a certain candidate, but they're really not bound to do that. once they get to convention, they can vote for whoever they want. >> delaware is a state much smaller than pennsylvania and they award fewer delegates on each side. for the republicans, there are 16 delegates and it's a winner-take-all. for the democrats, there are 21 delegates awarded proportionately, just like in pennsylvania. and of course, make sure you're staying with nbc10 throughout the day today. we're going to have live updates all day long on air, online, and also on the nbc10 app. and watch for all the results right here tonight on nbc10 news at 11:00.

take a live look now at the jersey shore from our camera at the marquis de lafayette hotel. it's much warmer than yesterday, but they are bracing for some stormy weather. we're bracing for stormy weather. first alert chief meteorologist glenn "hurricane" schwartz is here with the forecast and the timing of it all. >> yeah, vai, they had storms last night. now getting a break, and there will be more storms later today. also a tremendous temperature contrast across the area. this is what makes neighborhood weather just ideal. we had fairly similar temperatures for several days. delaware now, 76. but lehigh valley, 58. 76 in new jersey, but only 68 in pennsylvania suburbs with some showers. and then 74 in philadelphia. so what's going to happen as we go through the afternoon in philly? temperatures getting up into the 80s. it looks like most of the

thunderstorms coming generally after 3:00. so most of the day is dry to get out and vote. but what a contrast across the area. and even within certain counties. so we take a look to our northern and western suburbs. west calen is only 68, while kenneth square is 74. west chester, 74. chester heights, 75. that's in the same county, chester county. as we go toward montgomery and bucks, we're talking about 72 in st. davis and north wales, 73 for ft. washington, but only 66 in bedminster. big temperature contrast just north of philadelphia. and part of the reason is some places are getting sunshine. the temperatures really going to jump up in many areas. this is the first little batch of showers that has really weakened as it's gotten into the philadelphia area. this is the area we're going to

watch, see if it develops into a line of storm like many computer models are showing, as we go through the afternoon. it's going to take several hours for this to happen. then, as we go into the 3:00, 4:00 hour, we're talking about the thunderstorms, some gusty winds possible with these, and also some hail. hail reports in parts of delaware and south jersey overnight with some thunderstorms, an indication the atmosphere is primed for that right now. delaware, south jersey, getting it during the afternoon rush. it's going to be a little rough there. got the seven-day forecast constantly for your area, and back with a ten-day forecast coming up in a few minutes. >> all right, glenn, look forward to the ten-day. ukraine's president led a ceremony in chernobyl to mark the 30th anniversary of the world's worst nuclear disaster. they presented awards to people involved in the dealing with the aftermath of the chernobyl nuclear disaster.

about 600,000 people were sent in to fight the fire at the nuclear plant and clean up the worst of the contamination. the initial explosion at the power plant killed at least 30 people and exposed millions to dangerous levels of radiation and forced a permanent widescale evacuation of towns. they're constructing a vast structure which is going to be the first step in removing the tons of radioactive waste that remain around the destroyed reactor. and we have breaking news here. texas grand jury has just ind t indicted ex-cleveland browns quarterback johnny manziel. he's accused of hitting ex-girlfriend several times while driving from a dallas bar back to her home in ft. worth in january. police reports say crowley tried to jump from the moving car, but manziel stopped, dragged her back in the car, and hit her. y crowley was granted a protective

women who work the night shift, the overnight shift from time to time may have an increased risk of heart disease. boston researchers found women who spent at least five years working rotating night shifts were more laikely to develop heart disease than those with a more regular schedule. the risk decreased after the nurses returned to steady hours. >> later today, the irish pub will celebrate its seventh annual gathering of heroes and it takes on special meaning this year as we get set to mark the 50th anniversary of the start of the vietnam war. the pub will also honor the greatest beer run ever. john dawn hue is the subject of a viral video, the world's greatest beer run.

he's in the middle, reunited with his friend, rick dugan sitting to his right, and also with us, medal of honor recipient barney barnum. thanks to all of you for being here. this is a pretty fascinating story. barney, tell us about the gathering of heroes and why this is such an important event? >> it's put on by the marine corps law enforcement foundation. we raise money for scholarships. for children of marines and policemen who have lost their lives in this war on terrorism. so we're gathering today to have a good time, camaraderie, show our patriotism, love of country, and raise money for their children. you know, the children are the future of our country lies in their hands. they're the next future leaders. >> absolutely. >> so we're doing the right thing at the right time for the right reason at the irish pub. >> chicky, i want to ask you this. your story is so fascinating. you snuck back into the war zone to do something really amazing.

when i saw the story, it reminded me of private ryan, only with beer. tell us a little more about what happened, chicky. >> you know, it's living in an irish neighborhood in the northern end of manhattan, and i walk through central park one day, saw a demonstration against the war and against the gis over there and continued to the neighborhood, went in a pub, and the guys had it on tv and were talking about it. we just all agreed that it's a shame, demonstrating against our boys. somebody said, what can we do? we got to do something. we don't want to go down and start a brawl. somebody said, i wish i buy them all a beer. i said, i can do that. >> a merchant marine. >> ant seaman, but i had been in the marine corps four years before that. i had been to vietnam three, four times before that, and i knew enough about it, knew the military lingo.

so i said, i can do that. i didn't think i could do that, but i said i could. then the next thing i know, one of the guys tommy collins who is here with us today, he, his mother came to the bar. she came down, chicky, you're going to go see my tommy, with an irish accent? she tried to give me $100. i couldn't take it, that would cost me my life, i knew it. the next day i went to the union hall, got a ship from new jersey, amship. only place going in that year was vietnam, so i got on it, jumped ship, and got -- >> you took beer with you on the trip. >> there was always beer on ships. sort of like a tradition. >> rick, you're over there, and he shows up. what was your reaction? and he brought warm beer. you still drank it. >> well, everything was warm there. canteen water, everything. i was in total disbelief. i just, i was in shock.

i just -- what are you doing here? and he said, i was in the neighborhood. i thought i would stop by and buy you a beer. and what he accomplished is amazing. how he got to find me in the desolate area i was in is -- it's a miracle. >> not to mention the lies you had to tell just to get in there. >> exactly. >> right? had to be creative. >> he's good at that. >> theyant lies. they were military lingo. there was no retreat. there was a strategic withdrawal. that was not a lie, either. >> well, you guys are absolutely terrific. we're proud of you. we appreciate your service to the country, and what an amazing thing to go back there and find your buddies just to bring them a can of beer. >> they can have some beer tonight if they come down to the irish pub and contribute to this charity. >> there you go. here are the details chicky just

74 in philadelphia. also in the 70s, new jersey and delaware. 76 degrees, but it's only 68 in the p.a. suburbs. and what we're going to be seeing over the next 12 hours or so in philadelphia, we're going up into the 80s, and then dropping down to 51 by midnight. in trenton, we're dropping down to 50 by midnight, maybe noting into the 80s. reading going down into the 40s. wilmington going up into the low during the afternoon. so it is going to be pretty warm. it's already warm in delaware. the wind direction is out of the southwest. that's why the temperature is rising. reading point, already to 79 degrees. newmark, 75. and farther to the south, it's even warmer. it's already 80 in harrington. 79 in ellendale. remember how chilly it was at the delaware beaches the last

few days? not today. southwest wind, a land breeze. 79 degrees at rehoboth beach. the kind of detail we can show you with the neighborhood weather. well, we've got rain coming in, some of it later today. we have one little batch of showers coming through, but this is the area that we're going to be watching later on. and that, with the heat of the day, is going to help build up some thunderstorms. you can see them getting between philadelphia and allentown, about 2:30 in the afternoon. so in the philadelphia area, we're expecting it more like 3:00 and 5:00, a little earlier farther to the north. a little later to the south. you can see some of these heavy thunderstorms down in south jersey and delaware. and that is 4:30, 5:00 tonight. everything goes down to the south. and then, moisture kind of stalls a little bit. it's going to take a while to clear delaware and south jersey,

and in those areas, there is even a threat of some showers tomorrow along with the cloudy skies. and this afternoon, there is a threat of some potential severe thunderstorms in southeastern pennsylvania, parts of new jersey, and delaware. strong gusty winds and some hail possible. now, we can also see these are the neighborhood forecasts for today. these are the seven-day forecasts for all sorts of neighborhoods. constantly on the screen. you don't have to wait for the seven-day anymore, and it's not just the philadelphia seven-day. here's lehigh valley. temperature, bethlehem, 72 degrees with thunderstorms coming in. again, not as warm in lehigh valley. newtown, 78 degrees. again, a little warmer as you get farther to the south. 77, west chester, with afternoon thunderstorms. farther to the south, philadelphia, fairmount, 82 degrees. thunderstorms coming in the afternoon. and haddonfield and new jersey, 81 degrees. we have big events coming.

the blue cross run. we have the expo friday and saturday. rain friday. nice saturday, and the race, 52. it looks dry and fairly comfortable for runners. and the comcast cares day, that looks basically dry with temperatures in the 60s. so the weekend overall, looking pretty decent. there's a warm day today with the thunderstorms. look how much cooler it gets tomorrow, and then only to 50s, thursday and friday, with a chance of some rain. and then we have temperatures going into the 60s. it's going to be a week before we're back to even 70 degrees.
