will break it down for us. how wet will it be? >> sunday is the day to expect potentially heavy rain. that's the wet day out of the weekend. saturday, tomorrow, looks good. here's a look right now, though. philadelphia's skyline, liberty un1 and 2, and overcast skies, sprinkles right now. with the new neighborhood weather, current condition, 50 degrees in philadelphia and the seven day forecast, so you'll never miss that. radar right now, we are mostly just seeing overcast skies, and light rain is moving out, i can't rule out sprinkles this evening, but what you see to the west in the middle of the country, that's part of the area of rain that we do expect to move in on sunday. tomorrow, not so bad for the penn relays. tomorrow's forecast, very different than what we see sunday. my noon, 58 degrees, 3:00 p.m., 60 degrees, and 6:00 p.m., low 60s tomorrow,cloudy, but breaks in the clouds.

sun in tomorrow's forecast. now we go into sunday. we'll have rain moving in, some of it could be heavy. your blue cross run forecast by in the morning, the race starts at 8, we'll already see rain moving in. by 8:00, pretty steady rain approaching most of the area, but mostly in philadelphia, we could see heavy rain, by 9:00 in the morning, rain, and through the later morning hours, some of that could still be heavy and look at those temperatures, only in the upper 40s to around 50 degrees, so rainy and chilly into sunday. a look at the rest of the area's forecast for this coming up. no matter what your weekend has in store, take the app with you, tracking rain wherever you are with the first alert live radar. >> that forecast means the broad street run will likely be a wet one. nbc 10 at the pennsylvania convention center as runners picked up bibs, shirt, and everything to get set for sunday. the nbc 10 countdown clock shows just about a day and 13 hours

until the runners will be begin their ten-mile journey down broad street. ted furlong is live at the convention center tomorrow. >> we'll be there tomorrow helping people get their bibs, hey, tim. >> reporter: tell you what, i met so many people here today at bib pickup that train so hard with this race in their sights, you think rain bothers them? no. they come here to place like this, pick up some rain gear just like this stuff here. that's plenty to choose from from the expo. they run the race because it's become a favorite of the american running scene, rain or no rain. that's a starting line that's going to be packed. it's been around and growing since 1980. >> first time running broad street. really super excited. >> reporter: this run, now the biggest city organized race in america -- >> we have national recognition because of us. >> reporter: the eighth biggest overall race in america.

some runners argue it's the best. >> as you're going down, you get all the high fives, and with every high five, you get more energy. >> gets you out in philly from one end to the other. just always exciting. >> reporter: thousands of runners here at the expo to get bibs and souvenirs today, the race brings out characters and even the superheros. cape make you go faster? >> way faster: without the cape, i'm a snail. i put the cape on, and switch flips, and i'm lightning. >> reporter: the course, itself, is a big part of the draw, running down broad street is cool and as far as the course goes, it's flat, making it more appealing to many of the 40,000 runners expected to make this start sunday. many of the runners train specifically for this race. >> it's anybody's run. you know, ten miles is not a marathon. it's a challenging distance, but it's not impossible to do. it's an iconic race, and you get to see every neighborhood in

philadelphia. >> reporter: down at the expo today and tomorrow, fill out a sign for the favorite runner, hang out with our friend, george spe spencer here, and buy rain gear i talked about. it is a great event, running or walking, buy the gear and do fine. it is going to be an awesome event. of course, you could watch it live on nbc 10 and 62. >> tim there with the friends from nbc 10. all right, students from arch bishop carell and st. catharine's day school worked to mic sure runners have what they need at the end of the race, food. joining volunteers packing bags with fruit and snacks given to the runners when they cross that finish line. until then, bags will be stored in refrigerated trucks at the navy yard. our coverage of the blue cross broad street run begins at 8:00 sunday morning, and if you're running, don't forget set the dvr so you can go back and look for yourself. if you miss it, we'll air the

answers. >> good afternoon. >> reporter: what was expected to be an announcement of charges of the beating death of francis at howard high school of technology was an announcement of a further delay. >> because there's still a lot of work left to do by our detectives and attorney's general office in terms of revealing evidence and relevant facts, we are not in a position at this time to file charges. >> reporter: three students believed to be involved in the april 21st bathroom brawl that killed the 16-year-old have already been suspended from school. the police chief explained why filing charges against them has not happened as quickly. >> unlike tv, these things absolutely do take time. there are over 3,000 printed pages of data alone to be pain stakingly reviewed by investigators in this case. >> reporter: the legal analyst says a time being taken is a good sign as investigators separate rumors from the truth, scour social media posts, determine responsible for what and if there's charges as

juveniles or adults. the school fight stunned the community and has them demanding answers. monday, chief bobby cummingins promised closure by the end of the week, but it's taking longer than they expected. >> we know the family and public want answers, and we are working to bring the case to resolution as quickly as possible. >> reporter: the police chief confirms no weapons used in the brutal beating. he did not take any questions from the media and did not tell us when or if charges will be filed. reporting live in wilmingtowilm nbc 10 news. a frightening morning for passengers on board a flight forced to make an emergency landing at philadelphia international airport. passengers forced to use oxygen masks after smoke filled the cockpit. american eagle flight from virginia landed in philadelphia around 8:15.

passengers and crew were evacuated. one passenger had to be checked out. the eagle has landed. the new eest one, anyway. his name? carson wepts and birds bank on him being the future of the franchise. within the past hour, the eagles formally introduced wentz. it's been a whirlwind couple hours after finishing a college career north dakota state in fargo, he was taken by the eagles for the second pick last night in the draft in chicago. from there, off to philadelphia arriving this afternoon. nbc 10 is live in the digital operations center. >> head is spinning, right? he is cool about it all, keith. >> cool, calm, and collected. less than 24 hours since drafting the quarterback, wentz, but he's the focus of philadelphia sports, and for good reason at that. fargo to philadelphia, wentz arrived this afternoon, all 6'5", 237 pounds of him. the eagles traded up in the

blueprint and interviews not seen anywhere else with decision makers and analysis of the eagles' draft picks this sunday night at is 1:35 here on nbc 10. and atlantic city mayor just announced a news conference for monday. he's expected to reveal if the city will make a $2 million bond payment due monday. today they said the city's leaning towards making the payment. a new report in the wall street journal calls ac's credit rating the worst in america. no municipality in new jersey has defaulted on its debt since the great depression. >> certainly understand the importance of making a bond payment as we understand the negative implications of bankruptcy. >> quarterly tax payments due next month bring in hundreds of thousands of dollars every day. however, the mayor says the money might run out in june in state lawmakers can't reach a deal on how to bailout the city's finances.

it is the oldest and largest track and field competition in the country, and this attracts thousands of people from all over the world. taking a live look at franklin field on campus of the university of pennsylvania. a damp and dreary day of action is coming to a close. nbc 10 is live in university city. >> out there rain or shine, right, rosemary? >> reporter: they are out here rain or shine because it is an incredible opportunity. it's a springtime event, although, it doesn't feel like spring, more like winter. as you can see here in the stands at franklin field, it's starting to thin out because, obviously, the competition for the day is ending, and it's gotten just a little bit colder. however, fans tell me spectators tell me they really wouldn't miss it for the world.

>> it's not the best weather for running. >> reporter: not the best, but not a washout. for fans, the penn relays is a time honored tradition bringing back memories. >> i ran here in high school, so i've been coming every year since. >> i ran 1970 for my school, west philadelphia high school, so i've been coming like, every year. i just love it. >> cold and rainy, but we track fans, we love it. we sit out here no matter if it's a snowstorm. we like track that much. >> reporter: now it's a matter of bundling up. >> i have three layers of clothes and a jacket. i was dressing warm. >> dressed for the weather. i got my umbrella hat on with the flags on it and i'm handling my business. that's what i do. >> overlook it when it's something you love, passionate about and watching the young people run. >> reporter: athletes don't mind the wet weather, competing at the country's oldest and largest track and field meet is an

opportunity you don't waste, and, besides, the spectators will be here cheering and watching rain or shine. >> sitting in the rain, i would not miss it. i love it. >> reporter: some of the high school athletes behind me who wrapped up the one mile run here at franklin field, the good news today was that we really didn't get downpours, but it was a light drizzle, showers, and they tell me tomorrow, hopefully, it's better. reporting live in franklin field, rosemary connors, nbc 10 news. >> now your first alert weather. yeah. tomorrow for the penn roadway lays, we're not looking for rain, it's the drier day of the week. look at the area right now. neighborhood weather showing the sky conditions in the area. overcast skies, a few sprinkles.

49 in the valley, and 50 in new jersey and pennsylvania suburbs in the 40s. we can show you the entire region, zooming around, and don't ferg the seven day forecast at the bottom of the screen. when i'm on camera, and that's for pennsylvania, new jersey, and delaware since we know the weather changes depending on where you live. live look at radar, overcast skies, light rain moving out. to the west, though, in the middle of the country, that's where we find a cluster heavier rain, even thunderstorms here, so all this wet weather, that's what we are watching as we go into sunday. not tomorrow. tomorrow's going to be a drier day, but that will get here by the end of the weekend. at least the first half of the weekend is going to be nice if you want to get out there. rainy and chilly. that's the main weather story as we go into sunday. now, here's late tonight. by midnight, overcast skies,

can't rule out sprinkles. into saturday, cloudy, breaks of sun, i think, but a drier day. by late night, the rain approaches from the west. that moves in early sunday morning. here's sunday, 8:00 in the morning, and this is exactly the time when the blue cross broad street run starts. the yellow, across philadelphia into delaware and new jersey, that's heavier rainfall. we will be seeing rain. i think before the race starts sunday, during the race, some of which could be heavy rain. we'll watch that closely. we get closer to about noon. rain still around. some of it could be heavy. by the afternoon on sunday we clear out a little bit more. we could see rainfall totals around an inch for your sunday. in the meantime, tomorrow's forecast, around 60 degrees for new jersey. 61 millville, mostly cloudy, and the shore, temperatures mostly in the mid-50s. and atlantic city and wildwood, 61, as well as morristown. if you're in delaware, mostly

the hoopla and everybody's been waiting and see the amount of media here. are you getting an idea what it's like to play here in philadelphia in. >> yeah. it's cool. you know, departed, and, obviously, the coverage is topnotch, and everyone's passionate here from the media to the fan, and i'll learn that, i think, every day, and i'm excited for it. i think i touched on it earlier, i hate losing too, and i'll fit in great. >> howie roseman said you embody the spirit of philadelphia, gritty and how tough you are. where do you think that came from? >> how i was raised. you know, coming from north dakota, my family and everything, just how you grow up. you grow up, you get what you -- you earn what you get type of thing, you know, and hard work goes a long way. you know, hard work, especially my, you know, coming to high school, i was small, you know, i grew a lot, and i was a worker, kept working and kept work, and thankful. you know, thankful to reach, you know, the size and everything that i did, but i'm -- i just think it comes with how you're
