"nbc10 news" starts now. >> right now at 11:00, runners are just nine hours away from taking their marks for the broad street run. final preengss are happening across the ten mile course through the heart of philadelphia. but the concerns tonight are focused on the rain heading our way. you can see that system moving in on the nbc10 first alert radar. and some light showers could arrive within the next couple hours as we look live at center city. we're expecting the heaviest rain around race time from 7:00 to noon tomorrow. good evening. i'm denise nakano. your home for the blue cross broad street run. we have you covered with team coverage tonight. drew smith is checking on the final preparation preparations in center city.

let's start with meteorologist karen thomas and the racetime forecasting. > all right. yes, we wish it was a different story for the runners waking up early tomorrow morning. they like to gather early. it should be raining early on, say 4:00 a.m., 5:00 a.m. it, 6:00 a.m. in philadelphia. temperatures not doing too badly. 53 in philadelphia. mainly in the 50s. but look at new jersey. the cold spot. we've got the on shore flow, the cold easterly wind. a bit cooler there. we're looking wide here at satellite radar showing us just how big this system is. this is a low pressure system that's actually just setting up over the ohio valley. look at the pool from the gulf. it's stretching all the way down to the gulf and pulling moisture up. so this continue in this fashion moving from the southwest to the northeast bringing the rain as we get closer, we can see that some of it is already come into the area. what's new about the system tonight is that we're seeing the development of it is actually

broken apart. so rain in the morning but then we can't be surprised if the rain decides to take a break here or there. heaviest rain still falling early in the morning hours. and then still sustaining all the way through to midday. we could see some breaks in the shower activity. here's what our blue cross broad street run forecast looks like. at 7:00 a.m., chilly. that's the other piece of the story. 48 degrees right here. we have rain falling. we could have showers on and off through these morning hours as the temperatures climbs so slowly. heavier rain coming back into the picture as the ten-miler begis to wrap up. i'll have more on the race forecast, what we can expect as well as the ten-day outlook. >> we're just nine hours wa from the blue cross broad street run. drew smith is live in center city with a rundown what's happening overnight and how the race is affecting traffic and transit in the city tomorrow. >> reporter: first thing you

need to know, parked cars here on broad street need to go. you have till midnight or the city will tow your car. this space is reserved for run remembers starting at 8:00 tomorrow morning. your best bets for getting around are mass transit and your own two feet. >> running into the city is really, really cool. >> this family is pumped for their second time running in the broad street run. >> what do we have? our shorts. >> socks. >> they're staying at a hotel right at the finish line. many people plan to park near the stadiums and take the broad street line from the southern end up to the starting line in olney. that's what septa is recommending because you won't be able to drive on broad street. a lot of buss will be detoured during the run. >> it's so exciting from the second we set up, we get here early. >> this is one of the restaurants closest to the finish line. managers plan to hold an outdoor

record it so you can look for yourself later. we'll air the race again later on comcast sports net. new at 11:00, police are investigating after an officer found a body in a target parking lot in montgomery county. an upper merion prifr was patrolling king of prussia around 6:30 tonight when he found a body in the store's parking lot. people have not revealed the victim's identity or cause of death. but investigators say they do not believe it is suspicious. nine months ago today, a young philadelphia mother's life was cut short. today friends and family look for answers and justice. >> marchers hope someone will come forward with information about the murder of stephanie and other unsolved crimes. her body was found last july in the bedroom of her port richmond

home with her 2-year-old daughter nearby. >> i'm without a daughter. my granddaughter is out a mother. it hurts me every day. rips my heart out. >> police said last summer they believe this young mother was targeted but her friends say they do not think sheep had any enemies. community leaders and residents hit the streets of camden today to say enough is enough. they marched from the camden county police don't camden city hall for a peace in the streets rally. a local pastor says the event was sburd by a violent month including seven murders in about a week. new at 11:00, local celebrities hold their own in the ring. tonight they went toe to toe for a great cause. >> district attorney versus defense attorney. >> philadelphia d.a. seth williams and lawyer tariq al shabazz squared off in a boxing

match and vi sick ham ma was the emcee for the night at the fights. the event raised money for the urban league of philadelphia and judges gave the win top el shabazz. today, thousand of volunteers joined nbc10 and our parent company comcast for the largest single day volunteer effort in the country. today, is comcast cares day, a celebration of comcast year-long commitment to service. nbc10 and telemundo 62 employees got to work cleaning up a boys and girls club, building a play area and cleaning up the beach. buzzsaws and buckets of wet paint were among the sights at the boys and girl dpz club. comcast employees and families teamed up to fix bathrooms and paint hallways and you can see nbc10 was out in full force. >> what we're going to do here is really make it better for all

these young people who come here as place to gather to have fun to, let off some steam. we're just so happy to be here to help out. >> our comcast cares day volunteering continued in north philadelphia and nbc10 and telemundo 62 workers helped create a new children's play area at a daycare center. it is run by an organization that helps los income minority communities. and the jersey shore also got some help from comcast cares day. volunteers joined clean ocean action to help get rid of the trash at the beach in ocean city cape may county. tonight, 100 cellists from across philadelphia took the stage in center city where they played side by side with a master. ♪ special guest yo-yo ma joined local cellists and philadelphia ork strak musicians at the

scooter she was riding on collided with a duck boat in downtown boss fon. it happened just before noon today. police say about 30 passengers were on the duck boat at the time. a man was also on the scooter when the crash happened, but he survived. the cause of the crash is under investigation. and you might remember some deadly crashes involving duck boats here in philadelphia. we'll get tote that story in a bit. but coming up -- we have president obama at the white house correspondents dinner. we'll have what he has to say about the republicans and the candidates coming up. and age is just a number for this woman. how she finished a race in philadelphia today an the ripe

karen. >> all right. you said it best. waking up early tomorrow no matter your plans, you need the umbrella and, of course, all eyes are on the big race tomorrow ascy go ahead and give you this forecast. check out your seven-day forecast at the bottom of the screen. temperatures right now not bad. but cooler down here at the shore points simply because of that on-shore flow. we've got an easterly flow in south jersey. keeping temperatures cool. out to the pennsylvania suburbs and the neighborhoods, let's see. we'll see in our numbers are coming in. temperatures in the mid to upper 50s right now. but it will, let's put this in motion here. it will become much cooler as we go through the overnight and waking up early tomorrow morning, we're looking for temperatures especially in philadelphia for the racers to get ready it's going to be quite chilly with temperatures in the upper 40s. so let's see if we can -- the computer doesn't want to cooperate. we want to show you radar though because we do have a large area of precipitation on the map.

and it is moving in. we've got light rain falling in there we go, light rain falling in pots town and parts of reading and other parts north of the lehigh valley. you can watch the system continue to move in from the ohio valley. it does have a considerable amount of precipitation. you can see it's broken apart. we're looking for the heaviest rain it start early in the morning, earlier at about racetime. so 58 a.m., 6:00 a.m., 7:00 a.m. then we expect periods of rain. it will be broken apart as we get closer to the midday hours. so the rain will stay with us but it will just be light variety widespread and we can get heavy pockets in there, as well. so we'll go ahead and continue showing you the seven-day forecast at the bottom. but this guy doesn't want to advance for us. there's the system right here. waking up tomorrow morning, we are going to have the showers, some of the rain
