the sat liellite and radar is showing some rain in the philadelphia area. south jersey has light passing shower activity. it will be on and off today. there's a chance of thunderstorms later on. that's the seven-day forecast at the bottom of the screen. there will be a warmup today, 49 degrees with light showers in philadelphia. 48 at south jersey and the jersey shore and in delaware and pennsylvania suburbs, lehigh valley, it's in the 40s right now. that's 49 degrees at philadelphia international while it's 47 at chestnut hill and west mount airy. fox chase is 48 degrees. you'll need the umbrella today. still expecting late-day showers even if we see sunshine this afternoon. the futurecast, hour by hour when i'm back in ten minutes. jessica boyington in the meantime has your first alert traffic. jessie? >> we'll starting off in bellmawr, new jersey. there's an accident and fuel spill headed on route 42, the

block to 295 is blocked for cleanup. here's the vine street expressway. we are open for business right here. these are our cameras around 24th street. no problems headed westbound or eastbound towards 95 or the schuylkill expressway. there's an accident scene in ma marlborough. >> thanks. aç 2-month-old child remai hospitalized after a violent crash, another child dies in an accident that injured several adults. what do we know about the victims. >> the boy who died and the injured infant, 2 months old were both brought here to st. christopher's hospital. that 2-month-old little girl is still in critical condition. the good news is, two other children who were taken to c.h.o.p. and three other adults who were transported to various

trauma centers, they are listed in stable condition this morning. take a look at video that we have from the scene shortly after two cars collided on henry avenue in the wissahickon section of philadelphia. accident investigators tell us the car carrying the four children veered into oncoming traffic and was hit head on by another vehicle. two off-duty police officers who were driving in the area stopped to help, focusing their attention on the injured children. a witness told us his girlfriend was trying to help those injured victims. >> like people laying face down, whatever, she was like i'm shaking. i don't know what to do. >> now, this stretch of road where this deadly crash took place has seen other deadly crashes in the past. that's why there's a neighborhood movement to strictly enforce speed along that stretch. coming up in the next half hour, we'll take a look at that effort

and let you know if anybody's been done. reporting live outside st. christopher's hospital, katy zachry, nbc 10 news. 48 degrees outside. weather may be to blame for a car accident in philadelphia that ended up damaging a porch of a house. nbc 10 was on the scene in tabor avenue in lawncrest. the impact pushed one of the vehicles into a neighbor's porch. nbc 10's andrea cline-thomas spoke to the people living there. >> the impact, what does it look like. >> boom! >> crazy. >> it actually shook the house. >> i walked inside when i hear the boom. i saw the window and the neighbor car was in my porch and my porch was destroyed. >> medics took the driver to the hospital. police believe rainy conditions led to the accident.

today, jury selection will begin in chaka fattah's corruption trial. congressman's co-defendants include a lobbyist and his former chief of staff. opening statements are scheduled for may 16th. last week, fattah lost his re-election bid to dwight evans. from our delaware bureau, grief is gripping the family and friends of a student beaten to death at a high school. wilmington is remember is amy joyner-francis. loved one and community members gathered for a visitation at st. paul's uma church. amy died last month after a bathroom brawl. >> they have our prayers and support. >> kids will never learn. you've got to stop. you've got to. it's kest too much. >> school officials suspended three students believed to be responsible for the fight.

last week, wilmington's police chief said charges in the case will be coming. what a run. the 2016 blue cross broad street run is in the books. nbc 10 carried the event live from the start in logan and the finnish philadelphia. 40,000 runners tackled the ten-mile run. >> this is one of the things on my bucket list. >> i like running broad street. it's not like a race, it's more of a party. the whole city comes together for it. >> i'm glad i finished running. >> congratulations. nbc 10 followed the runners on the ground, in the air with skyforce 10 and even aboard a motorcycle. nbc 10 was there when abel

quakertown. that's the worst of it in the area. the shower activity is going to be even more likely later this afternoon when things start to heat up. that's the seven day at the bottom of the screen. doesn't look like this will be the warmest of the next seven days. we will see showers and mostly cloudy skies even with that warmer temperature. you can see the steadier, light showers in delaware and south jersey. they are on the move. it's not going to be an all-day rainfall here. look at the futurecast shows 6:00 this morning, showers at the shore. a break in philadelphia as we go into the later morning hours, though, mostly just cloudy skies with a chance of showers more likely this afternoon. that's your noontime forecast. plenty of clouds, not too many showers. so the forecast for today, hour by hour is calling for these temperatures to climb up into the 70s this afternoon. very low 70s today. look at the ten-day outlook when i'm back in ten minutes. >> bill, thanks for that. let's check with the woman who

represented the morning team as the blue cross broad street r runner, jessica boyington. how are you feeling it? >> feeling it, tracy. i was complaining about the rain all morning and then once i went, it made it a really great experience. it was so, so fun. i'm feelingç it in my hip a little bit this morning but we got it. we'll be good. good morning, everyone. if you were running the blue cross broad street run, opening your eyes, you may feel groggy. look at this right here, montgomery drive, no problems in either direction. we're not seeing any delays yet, a 13-minute trip eastbound from the blue route to the vine street expressway. average speeds into the 50s right now but you can see no problems either direction. i wish we could say the same in new jersey. bellmawr, there is an accident headed southbound to the ramp to 295 northbound. that ramp is blocked with that accident scene right now. the pa turnpike looks okay. we are still in the green and a

bailey circus. the circus is retiring the elephants to a conservation area in florida. >> i haven't been to the circus in years. just seeing them tonight, it was fun. kind of exciting but sad at the same time. >> ringling brothers made the decision after years of protests by animal rights activists. more then a dozen other circuses still tour with elephants. >> 4:1 a3 and 38 degrees. nine protesters charged in seattle after protests turned violent. hundreds marched through the street calling for immigrant and worker rights. things quickly became disrupted as protesters started chanting and throwing rocks. police officers used flash bangs and rubber bullets to disperse the crowd. five officers were hurt. today in detroit, 43 schools

will be closed because of a teacher sickout. the teachers union urged workers to call out sick. the union says a lack of state funding means there will be no money to pay teachers this summer. sickouts earlier this year caused tens of thousands of students to miss class. also today, puerto rico is expected to default on a $422 million debt payment. it would be the latest financial setback for the struggling u.s. territory. puerto rico's governor made an announcement yesterday saying the island nation will not make certain payments today. it already has multiple previous defaults. now there's debate in congress on how to aid puerto rico. and this morning, the first american cruise ship sailing from the u.s. to cuba in more than 50 years is expected to arrive in havana. carnival corporations adon'tia left miami yesterday with 700 passengers on board.

it's the first trip of its kind since the u.s. and cuba restarted diplomatic relations. muhammad ali's childhood home in kentucky is now a museum. people in louisville celebrated the grand opening yesterday. the little pink house is where cassius clay grew up. linda montgomery was a little girl when the future champ baby sat her. >> he used to sit all three of us on the floor in front of the couch and give us a bowl of cereal. >> ali is 74 years old and lives in arizona. the owners of the museum said they wanted to preserve the roots of the man that many consider to be the greatest. in southwestern louisiana, more rain expected today could make flood conditions worse. at least 6 inches of rainfall

swamped homes and roads yesterday. fire and rescue squads were busy saving people from high water. severe thunderstorms [n new orleans postponed play in this week's pga event. now your first alert weather with meteorologist bill henley. >> a cloudy start a and few areas of light showers this morning. temperatures back in the 40s where they were yesterday morning, 48 degrees in the lehigh valley. pennsylvania suburbs at 45 degrees while philadelphia's 49, just a little bit cooler for south jersey at 48 degrees. it's 47 in mt. laurel. some areas of fog, this will take some time to disappear. it will be doing away. zero visibility in coatesville. that will be slow to clear. not so bad in quakertown. not an issue for most of new jersey. mt. holly, it's fine. down to a mile and a half visibility in millville. visibility is on the good side, even though showers are moving

through delaware right now. you can see the light rainfall in wilmington and central new castle county. the first showers of the day in dover have moved on in south jersey. just isolated light sprinkles really. these will not be here for most of the day, though, there's a chance we'll see more of these showers moving through and then this afternoon, is possibility of strong thunderstorms developing mainly in delaware and south jersey. here's your hour by hour forecast. 7:00, 52 degrees in philadelphia. cloudy skies and 56 at 11:00 and mostly cloudy skies at 3:00. look at that warmup, 65 degrees this afternoon. the pennsylvania suburbs will see a similar warmup, too, with mostly cloudy skies. still a chance of a shower during the morning and early afternoon hours. but mostly we're just going to be looking at cloudy skies and the lehigh valley could see a late morning shower of 53 degrees and 61 degrees at 3:00 this afternoon. for delaware, a chance of some late-day showers and thunderstorms as it warms up, 67

northbound, there was an earlier accident and fuel spill. there's cleanup involved here. that ramp is blocked for the time being. here's route 202. we are still in the green as you can see. no problems in either direction. an 11-minute trip headed southbound from the schuylkill to route 30. today we'll find out when cars can go faster on parts of the pennsylvania turnpike and interstate highways across the state. penndot and turnpike officials will announce expansion of the 70 mile-an-hour speed limit in areas where it's now 65. they studied engineering and safety issues for the last two years. the 55 mile-an-hour zones will stay the same. jerry sandusky is serving 30 to 60 years in prison for child sex abuse. the former penn state football coach wants another shot at justice. ahead at 4:30, hear why he's heading back to court today. deal or no deal? two new jersey transit rail
