have gotten both people out of the car. we know both of those people are hurt. and officials are checking people on the train for injuries as well. no word yet on what the car was doing on the tracks. we have a crew on the way to the scene. we'll bring you more information as soon as they arrive. this crash, of course, also having an impact on new jersey tranlst right now. let's get to jessica boyington for more on that. >> well, vai, yeah, it is having an impact. the river line service right now is currently suspended in between palmyra and sin amintson due to the accident. the river line service is suspended at that point. you want to check and plan your trip accordingly or an alternate route. here's montgomery county. the p.a. turnpike northeast extejsz still blocked off around mile marking 26, the lansdale interchange. the tractor trailer went off the

road, a fuel spill, and an additional accident behind the scene earlier. a huge backup, the backup is less right now, but still, they're detouring cars down route 63 to route 309 to exit 339, which is mt. washington. you can take the detore, but to avoid the backups, get on 309 to be safe for now. here's out in southwest philadelphia, the water main break still active there. 63rd and eastwick avenue, still block eed off. the schuylkill expressway okay for the most part, but we have rolling work crews around the area of gerard avenue. traffic is moving along, more of the delays headed westbound towards the king of prussia area. >> all right, thank you, jessica. right now at 11:00, no sign of sun on this cinco de mayo day. they would say sol in spanish if i'm not mistaken.

escaped. he's listed at 5'9" and say he weighs 180 pounds. he looks a lot heavier to me than 180 pounds. he has a tattoo under his left eye, also on his wrist. court documents show he would have been eligible for parole in just 18 days if he had not escaped. >> a day earlier, corrections officers noticed he was missing when guards did an inmate count at 6:00 a.m. he was serving a sentence for aggravated assault at bayside state prison. now, there are other officers ay school in barnegat and they will be there all throughout the school day today. you hear the chief say schools will be open. police warn neighbors to stay inside and keep their doors and windows locked. the residents we spoke to said the extra measures calm their fears. >> keep them safe and they're safer here than at home right now. >> and again, how does that make

fix. that is causing quite a bit of inconvenience around here. rushing water halted the morning rush for drivers who came upon 63rd and eastwick. gallon after gallon pouring into the streets. the earth no match for the 12-inch main underneath. >> this is a major intersection for us. >> steve johnson lives in the development across the street. he woke up at 6:00 a.m. to see this. and he says it's not the first time. >> this is like the third time this has happened within the last two years. at this very intersection. >> i took that claim to the water department. >> if we do find that main is, you know, routinely breaking, we'll have to go through and put that in the process for full repair. >> john says there are several water mains under this street. one can fail now, another could fail later.

water crews pounded the pavement shutting off the source. >> there should be no customers that are impacted. however, if we need to shut further away from the valves we initially were trying to work on, there may be customers who are impacted today. >> those affected now are the ones trying to get around. from pedestrians to drivers. at one point, a car crashed into another as they approached the barricade on 63rd. >> people with wheelchairs. they won't be able to get to the bus stop. >> until the mess is cleaned up. and it will take more than this broken broom to do the job. another live look at 63rd and eastwick. you see the water department crews out here now, and they have the backhoes. there is quite a sinkhole that is over there where the workers are right now. this is going to take a lot of time. and talking about the timeframe, the water department says it all depends on how long it takes to repair the main first and then

flames. it's pretty scary. >> canada's alberta province has declared a state of emergency for what is shaping up to be the country's costliest natural disaster. >> a kenyan official says rescuers are working to free a whum who has been found alive after six days trapped in the rubble of a collapsed building in nairobi. rescuers pulled a nearly 6-month-old bayy from a collapsed building tuesday, raising the hopes more survivors will be found. the head of the natural disaster management unit said the death toll has risen to 33 with 80 people still missing. we still have the clouds that have been around for days, still here. and notice the wind blowing the flags on boathouse row. that's a live view from center city. the wind keeping things chilly and keeping things cloudy too. if you're heading out a cloudy and school day. that chance of some isolated

showers, light scattered showers. that's it. we have seen a few so far today, but not as much rain as we're going to be in for tomorrow. the grass is looking a whole lot better than it did just a couple weeks ago. this evening, showers possible at the shore, but the high tide will also be an issue. minor coastal flooding as the winds are pushing the water onshore. the flood threat mainly between 6:00 and 8:00 this evening. the chance of flooding will be minor. but roadways could be flooded later this evening. and then the winds. that stays with us into tomorrow. and will bring us gusty winds not only later today, but wind and rain for tomorrow. the wind speeds will be near 20 miles per hour at the shore. we're watching for showers. got plenty of clouds and isolated shower right now is moving through just moved through philadelphia, now into montgomery county, getting a few raindrops at this time. the rain showers are moving. they're moving inland. this is the motion of all the clouds for us today's. we could see a few more spots on

the radar screen. radnor, morristown, getting light rain. no heavy rainfall there. no steady rain during the afternoon. the futurecast shows 5:00 today, lots of clouds, but the rain is really out of the picture until we go into tomorrow. the clouds will still be here, and first thing tomorrow morning, we'll start to get some rain. for today, afternoon clouds, 50s for philadelphia. for pennsylvania suburbs will see a slight shower possible, but most of the day just going to be cloudy and cool. 56 degrees. that's at 6:00 this evening. for the lehigh valley, clouds hanging in there. middle 50s to upper 50s this afternoon. there have been some thin spots in the lehigh valley. as far as delaware and new jersey are concerned, clouds and school. an isolated shower will be light today. at the jersey shore, cloudy, school, and windy. this evening, that's when we could see the flood threat after 6:00. again, minor flooding is

possible. clouds will be building for tomorrow, and tomorrow morning, we will see some heavy rainfall in the area. that's 10:00 this evening, clouds will still be here. but look at the clouds and rain moving in tomorrow morning. that's at 11:00. this time tomorrow, the rain will be steady across the area, and continuing into the afternoon hours. but look how it tapers off by 11:00 tomorrow evening. we will be drying out. but there will still be showers offshore, and that possibility of showers will carry into the weekend. but the weekend for mother's day will be shaping up. slowly improving conditions after a rainy day friday. cool, windy, and rainy. especially in the morning into the early afternoon. then the showers will be harder to find on saturday. still a few scattered light showers around in the morning and early afternoon on saturday, but late in the day, the clouds will start to break. we'll get sunshine, and for mother's day, showers, if we have them at all, will end early in the morning.

jersey. bill henley is now here with the neighborhood forecast. hey, bill. >> hey, vai. gloomy, dreary, cool, but otherwise, beautiful outside. if you're a lawn, which is looking better. clouds overhead, temperatures cool. the rest of us are going to have to wait for a warmup. that happens this weekend. 53 degrees with clouds in philadelphia. in delaware, 52 degrees. there are some cooler spots. we were dropping down to the 40s overnight. slowly increasing now, 50 degrees in tulliville, harmony hills is 52 degrees. no big warmup and no big showers either. we have northeasterly winds still working the area. there are some showers offshore. they'll stay offshore for most of the day. that rain to the southwest, that's in store for us for tomorrow. right now, across delaware, lots of clouds and a few sprinkles. if you look really closely, you can see some light rain showers that are moving through new castle county, just drossing 95 right now. that's very light rain and it's going to be brief.

you can probably get away without an umbrella today. i can't say the same about tomorrow. we have steady if not heavy rain in store for us. i'll go through that with the futurecast in a few minutes. and give you a look at the ten-day forecast with a big warmup next week. >> new jersey state police will help protect after school transportation in barnegat dwip new jersey as authorities continue to search for an escaped inmate in that community. barnegat township officers will remained stationed at all schools in the community throughout the day. investigators say arthur buckel escaped from a camden county jail earlier this week and stole a pickup truck. investigators found that truck at a barnegat township cvs, and surveillance video here appears to show buckel entering the store. officials think the stepped up law enforcement presence in the town will force the escapee to head elsewhere. >> let's be realistic. considering the law enforcement presence you men and women have seen over the last 24 hours, if

you were mr. buckel, the only think i would want is distance. >> now, buckel was just weeks away from parole when he escaped from a jail in camden county. >> a water main break is tying traffic and causing headaches for residents in one southwest philadelphia neighborhood. here's a look at the mess earlier from sky force 10. matt is on the scene. matt, what's the situation there right now? >> well, water crews have been here twice this morning. first when the main broke, now they're trying to finish the repairs. as you look at the live picture, you can see the crews at the sinkhole formed because of the break. that was right over top of where the water main broke and the water started pouring out earlier this morning. you see it really has left behind quite a mess here at 63rd and eastwick. take a look at some video. this is what it looked like earlier. water pouring into the streets. fortunately, we're told no residents lost water. there are several mains under

the street. the one that broke around 6:00 this morning was a 12-inch main. i have been talking with the water department as well as residents here. one told me it's not the first time a main has broken at this very intersection. >> i mean, this has happened before. we have had water issues and we complained about it. and it's happening again. >> if we do find that the main is, you know, routinely breaking, we'll have to go through and put that in the process for full repair. >> now, as far as the cleanup is concerned, first the main has to be fixed and then the road repairs can start. the asphalt as you see, has buckled. i'm told by water department official, this intersection could be closed at least the rest of the day. a good idea to find another way if you have to get around 63rd and eastwick here. traffic is being diverted in all four directions. live in southwest philadelphia,. >> decision 2016 news.

a new poll finds that plurality of new jersey republicans don't think donald trump should pick governor chris christie as his running mate. the monmouth university poll found 41% of gop voters felt christie would hurt trump's ticket. 15% say the governor would help. 37% said it wouldn't matter. >> that music has been featured at donald trump's rallies and campaign events for months. now the rolling stones want the presumptive republican nominee to stop using their songs. the trump campaign hasn't commented on the stones' quest. a aerosmith frontman steven tyler also asked him to stop using their music. >> e-cigarette brands will have to undergo federal review.

changes will limit e-cigarette sale to minors and require new health warnings. >> a new bill in congress could curb the regulations. a house committee approved the measure. many house republicans support the bill. but some democrats and public health officials argue the change could lead to unsafe products. the senate has not weighed in on the e-cigarette regulations. >> you now have to be 21 years old to buy cigarettes or other tobacco products in california. the governor of california has signed a bill raising the smoking age to 21. the state of hawaii and some cities have also increased the smoking age to 21. in our area, a bill is moving through the new jersey state house to raise the age from 19 to 21. pennsylvania lawmakers are considering a measure to raise the age from 18 to 21. smoking age is 18 in the state of delaware. about a half hour ago, former cleveland browns

quarterback johnny manziel appears in a dallas courtroom. he was indicted after an incident involving his ex-girlfriend, colleen crowley. she said the pair had an argument at a hotel in dallas and manziel hit her. today, a judge released the 23-year-old on two conditions. first, he cannot have any contact with his ex. he also can't have a gun. the charge against manziel carries up to a year in jail and a $4,000 fine. officials at the u.s. capitol marked holocaust remembrance day. victims and their loved ones lit handled to mark the 71st anverse of the day allied forces liberated the concentration camps. about 60 holocaust survivors attended the ceremony. >> meanwhile in an nbc10 exclusive, we're hearing from philadelphia police officer jesse hartnett, recovering after he was shot in an ambush. he talked to us after the national police foundation named

him its man of the year. the police defense foundation honored him in new york last night. back in january, he was shot while sitting in his patrol car. he managed to fire back and chase down the gunman. officers captured the alleged shooter a few blocks away. hartnett tells us police officers are often criticized and don't get the credit they conser deserve. >> we have seconds to decide whether or not to shoot. it's truly muscle memory at that point. and your training and experiences do kick in and play a factor, but just instead of people attacking right away, look at all the facts. >> hartnett has had eight surgeries and just started physical therapy. to hear his full interview and hear what he says saved his life in the shooting, tap the nbc10 app. >> this morning, we're hearing from a temple university lacrosse player who was nearly killed in a hit and run last year and now she's set to walk

chapter of the lupus foundation. thank you for being here. this is such a devastating disease. what exactly is lupus? >> an autoimmune disease. normally, your immune protects you from things like bacteria and viruses. and when someone gets lupus, the immune system gets out of balance. instead of protecting you, the body attacks itself. so antibodies are made, they build up and result in inflammation, and that can potentially damage or destroy parts of the body, organs, heart, lungs, brain, kidneys, skin, joints, blood. any part of the body is a potential target. >> is it genetic in any way? >> there's certainly a genetic componeabout. we see certain populations affected more often. we know there's a hormonal connection because 90% of cases are women in their child bearing years and there are environmental triggers. the sun, for some people, is an environmental trigger that can cause the lupus to flare up. >> how close do you think researchers are away from finding a cure? two, five, ten years or can you

tell? >> i think probably beyond ten years in terms of anything in terms of a cure, but there's advances being made all the time in terms of having a better understanding of the basic science of what's happening in the immune system and how to target therapy more specifically so that the therapy isn't harmful to the individual. so instead of suppressing the entire immune system which then leaves you at risk for fighting infection, it's very targeted to the mechanisms of lupus. >> we said half a million people suffer from it, but it's interesting because i don't know anybody that doesn't have a connection to it. a personal connection. i was telling you, we have friends in new jersey whose wife suffers from it. interesti interestingly, the female, and a former colleague whose wife was diagnosed. >> most people seem to know someone. the more we get to talk about it, the more we find the connections and hopefully people connect to the resources that

these numbers are really not going to climb all that much in the pennsylvania suburbs. we have 49 degrees in west bradford township, and in the very low 50s for doilstown. we have seen a few sprinkles this morning, but plenty of clouds to keep things cool. there's one isolated shower. that one is moving through montgomery county and just into upper chester county right now. very light rainfall there. and the motion is going to continue. those onshore flow is going to give it a chance of a few more sprinkles during the day. there's the big weather maker. that's for tomorrow. the rain is going to be steady tomorrowing. and we could see some heavy downpours. future cast shows at 4:30 in the morning, the rain across delaware and south jersey, watch hout it streams inland during the morning hours and into the afternoon. we'll still see steady rain, if not heavier downpours. that's at 12:30 tomorrow afternoon. the trenton area seeing some heavier showers that will push

into the lehigh valley during the 3:00 hour, and later in the afternoon, the clouds finally turgoff the spigot and we start drying out friday evening. still a possibility of showers into the weekend. this is the futurecast showing how much rain we can expect today. barely any. this isso rainfall in south jersey, .02 inch in philadelphia. then we go into tomorrow morning. here comes that steadier rainfall watch the rain totals increase. we could see close to half an inch by 5:00 friday afternoon. and then the showers will taper, but there's still a chance we'll see scattered showers into the weekend. the first part of it, at least. a rainy day tomorrow. this is your mother's day weekend forecast. a few scattered light showers to start with on saturday. late day breaks of sunshine, and look at mother's day, looking pretty nice with readings into the 70s. dreary weather for today and tomorrow. get through it, and then we get the late sunshine on saturday. and the warming trend that happened over the weekend

we have an update on breaking news in burlington county. sky force 10 was over a crash involving a passenger train and a car on the tracks. this was the scene as crews worked to rescue two people in the car. lauren is on the scene with an update. what's the latest? >> vai, let me show you what is happening right now behind me. you can see that that car is sfil on the tracks right now, but what they're doing is it appears they're preparing to tow that out. there's a tow truck on the street right next to this. i spoke with a woman who heard this trash crash and tells me this car was pushed from the intersection back behind there, broad and main, pushed from the intersection down onto the tracks here, as you can see. now, there were 35 passengers on that train at the time.

there were people in that car. and there were four people total taken to the hospital. the two people in that car and then two people from the train. i'm told they all have non-life threatening injuries at this point. now, the line here is suspend between palmyra and cinnaminson, and right now, if you need to go in this route, you can use a bus. there's bus service that is also available that will take you down this route, but the line is suspended between palmyra and cinnaminson. here's what has to happen next. i spoke with new jersey transit. they have inspect the tracks. they don't know how long the line is shut down, but the inspection needs to happen before they can open things up again and get the moving. live in riverton, lauren mayk. >> coming up this afternoon at 3:00, all new ellen with cameron diaz, and then the news at 4:00. this fight to put their father

to rest. this local family says it didn't happen the way they wanted it for more than a year after he died, saying they got the run hp around from the company making his headstone. at 4:00, nbc10 responds. >> and our meteorologist bill henley with a look at the afternoon weather. >> if you're a fan of cloudy weather, you have been on a roll. if you're look for sunshine, you'll like the weekend forecast. there are finally some changes ahead. the dreary weather will finally move out of here, but after a cloudy day today, we're in for some pretty good rainfall tomorrow. not just philadelphia, the pennsylvania suburbs, the lehigh valley, new jersey, the jersey shore, and delaware. that will keep the temperatures in the 50s again tomorrow. the steadiest rain will be in the morning and into the early afternoon hours on friday. by late in the day friday, it will be drying out. if you're out and about this friday evening, you should be okay. still a chance we'll see showers on saturday in the morning. scattered light showers.
