the first alert weather team is tracking a bit more rain for the weekend. you see all that green on the screen, but we will soon see the light at the end of the tunnel. your first alert neighborhood weather starts now at 5:00. good evening, i'm rosemary connors. >> i'm keith jones. that light there, it's the sun. in case you fort. we have not seen it in a while. >> we have more rainy patches to get through. if you forgot the umbrella today, you definitely got soaked. some people got drenched. shopping in suburban square, and it was a steady rain, falling here this afternoon. nbc 10 where it was pouring, and flowers soaked on main street. people in the neighborhood staying inside this afternoon, speak, our meteorologist is tracking the forecast for your neighborhood. sheena, you're tracking rain and coastal flooding? >> yes, another concern through the evening. coastal flad flooding and a new moon. seeing a high tide. so that's going to give us concerns along the shore, and

we're watching for anymore concerns further inland, but aside from that, we are watching the rain, so the heaviest of it moves through earlier this morning, and locally, though, we have heavy pockets farming in northern delaware, delaware bay, watching that here as we go through the next couple hours, i would say. this is moving into newcastle and kent counties. midd middletown in newcastle county seeing the rain, and you see the yellows, oranges, and zooming in more, i think, mostly, northern delaware is just going to be dealing with this for the time, and that's where we see the pockets of that heavier rain right now in newcastle county. along these areas, townsend seeing it too. this estimated rainfall, 1-3 inches in the area. we don't expect heavy rain like that this morning, but another thing we see with scattered showers is threat for coastal flooding, warning for the jersey

shore and delaware beaches. this is for high tide between 7:and 9:30 tonight, expect street flooding, and adds vise ri for the delsz rivers, by 2:22 in the morning, that's when the high tide is by philadelphia. watch for minor street flooding there. this evening, headed out, 10:00 p.m., 51 in philadelphia, 4 the 9 by 6:00 in the morning, and showers are in the forecast for saturday, even in the pennsylvania suburbs and the lehigh valley, but there's sun in the afternoon. i'll show you the forecast and mother's day forecast coming up. a wet mess on the roads in delaware. tonight, people hope the streets and the skies will clear up soon. >> tim furlong is live in wilmington. tim, return warm sunny weather can't come soon enough. >> not for me standing here. it is coal. this is flower market, a tradition, and now at this time

mother's day, you know that? >> exactly. thank you so much. hey, as you make plans for the weekend, check out the nbc 10 first alert weather app with all details for your neighborhood forecast. new information about the breaking news we're following out of maryland. late this afternoon, police arrested a suspect after three deadly shootings including two today at a mall and a grocery store eight miles apart. nbc 10 is following the story from the digital operations center joining us now live. what have you learned, jack? >> we learned the suspect was threatening suicide by cop before the shootings happened. today's violence started at 11:30, shooting one person and two others came to help, and they were shot too. one of the victims tie died at the hospital, the other in critical condition. 20 minutes later, a woman shot and killed outside a grocery store. investigators say the first shooting actually happened

yesterday when the suspect shot and killed his estranged wife at the child's high school parking lot. it was a scary time for people throughout the area, and police say they are still piecing everything together to find out what happened. the suspect was a law enforcement officer for the federal government, but he was put on leave when someone filed a protective order against him back in march. live in the digital operations center, nbc 10 news. thank you for that. right now at 5:00, police say a woman is dead, survived crashing the car into a tree, but then got hit by another driver. the hit-and-run crash happened 155 at 3:00 this morning. or rather 6:00 this morning. police think the woman lost control, left the road, and hit a tree. she got out of the car just before another vehicle hit and killed her. >> the wife of legendary penn

state football coach wants to end the, quote, character assassination, that new allegations bring against her husband. today, sue released a statement in response to a new court ruling that alleged paterno learned of child abuse allegations of jerry sandusky two decades earlier than first thought. chris palone has the story. >> reporter: in a court battle between penn state university and insurance company who should pay settlement money over the sexual abuse victims, a philadelphia judge made a r revelati revelation. the judge wrote insurance claimed a child reported to the head coach he was sexually molested. if true, that means paterno first heard the accusation nearly two decades earlier than he previously admitted, and, again, raises the question of whether paterno could have done more to stop the coach. we might never know if the allegation is true. sandusky convicted on 45 counts

of sexual abuse in 2012 serving 30 years in prison. paterno died in 2012, and the alleged victims' testimonies are sealed. most students arrived after he was convicted and paterno died, but hearing this allegation adds another layer to ponder when considering his legacy. >> in my opinion, he did as much as he could have, just was not taken further by the university officials. >> it does make you question, like,ly who you are, like, supporting. >> reporter: in a written statement, the family called the new allegation unstanuated, and said it's one again smeared the late coach's reputation. penn state is unable to comment. state college, pennsylvania. right now at 5:00, police are still searching for one of three men accused of beating two philadelphia school security officers. this is a photo of the man they are looking for, burgos. two others arrested. earlier this week, n b 10 showed

we have new information on this fire crash that killed three people in bethlehem, a viewer captured the aftermath on video happening shortly before 1:15 this morning on willow park road near first street. we know police say a crashed into three parked cars. the cars, as you can see, then, burst into flames, killing three people inside the driver's vehicle. one man escaped. he's being treated at the hospital for severe burns. we spoke to police moments ago. they tell us that the car sped by an officer right before the crash. the officer tried to catch up, but it was too late. we also spoke to a neighbor who heard the crash.

>> and then i looked the window upstair, and i saw over the rooftop, i saw the big bright glow and the flames. >> right now, investigators are still trying to identify all victims. it was a miserable morning commute for drivers traveling norlt on 95 near academy road. a postal service truck jackknifed before 6:00 this morning, upright, but blocked all four lanes of traffic, and only the shoulder got by taking hours for the road to reopen, afghanistaning traffic headed to northeast philly and points north. get this. if you were not lucky to drive near the accident, you could recognize this scene. this is the backup on the first alert traffic cameras this morning. see the drive teem there? says 86 minutes. that was not even the worst of it. at one point it was more than a hundred minutes. all right. heading further south. for hundreds of workers in atlantic city, they are not sure

rain, low clouds, and even tonight, we're going to see fog developing. don't forget with the neighborhood forecast your seven-day is scrolling at the bottom of the screen so you'll never miss that. the rain, though, that's going to continue as we go through the rest of tonight. it's not heavy like we've seen today, but it's mostly scattered lighter showers, so that's what we will watch as we go through the rest of tonight. look at the radar right now. the area of low pressure's spinning down to the south. we do have heavy pockets of rain, though, moving into the area, so we'll watch that have thanning, but if you head out, take the umbrella with you because scattered showers will be in the forecast. so through the area right now, we are mostly seeing some light scattered showers with moderate rain now developing in parts of newcastle county. this is one section we watch for heavier rainfall at the moment headed to 95 here, and wilmington seeing it soon. middletown as well, and that is headed towards major interstates. that is heavier rain in

newcastle county. aside from that, we have the lighter scattered showers in the forecast. some of those could be locally heavy, but not like this morning. coastal flood threat continuings through welcome in the morning in the delaware beaches. 7:309:30 tonight. that's when high tide occurs. in the back bays, five hours later, and we expect street flooding, moderate coastal flooding is a threat at the shore. further inland, coastal flood advisory, minor flooding, watching the delaware river for that, high tide at 2:22 in the morning near philadelphia may be causing minor flooding there. neighborhood temperature, though, still cool, 54 degrees in philadelphia, and the jersey shore coming in at 54 and south jersey at 48 degree, and pennsylvania sbubs, looking at new jersey neighborhoods, temperatures have stayed cool because of the rain, and, of course, the cloud cover. 53 in pitman, and if you're in mercer county, hope well

township, 50 degrees, and princeton at 49 degrees right now. it's cool outside. weather, though, big improvements for the weekend, so that is what we're really looking forward to. here's future weather, so scattered showers for the rest of tonight, so just have the umbrella with you tonight. tomorrow morning, we still see scatters showers around, and more clearing in the afternoon and into tomorrow evening, and we go in mother's day, sunday, early in the morning, we see another area of showers pass through, but, quickly, because by the middle of the day sunday, we clear out, nice sun, a little windy, but at least it's warmer. the weekend is looking much better. look at the weekend forecast across the board, pennsylvania suburbs 61 degrees, south jersey at 64. sunday, though, nice, sunny, temperatures in the low 70s. it's the better day of the weekend. looking good, though, even into next week, but rain chances come back. a look at the forecast with the ten day coming up. >> just need to get through the

are on edge. a man accused of shooting another car on the blue roet uts on the lose. this is the victim car with a bullet hole. they believe it was a case of road rage, and they want this dangerous driver in custody as soon as possible. nbc 10 randy gyllenhaal is following the latest for us, randy? >> reporter: police say that bullet came through the victim's door and traveled into the car, lodging into the center console likely saving that victim's life, but the suspect fled in his car last seen taking the exit to conshocken. >> 476 is really bad. >> people are crazy. >> drivers here say road rage is really not all that rare along the blue route. >> seen plenty of stuff on the shoulders and back and forth. i can't believe that someone shot somebody, though. >> reporter: gunfire erupting on the, that is something new, and state police are searching for

martin. his west wildwood home still being reed after being severely flooded in january's nor'easter. >> older you get, the more 'háhe shore communities this morning with my flooding causing low lying streets to fill with water, but continue's high tide is expected to be more serious with widespread moderate coastal flooding. >> stressful, hard to deal with. >> reporter: rounds of flooding caused by the upcoming new moon and persistent winds keeping water in the back bays. >> we took all insulation out. >> and threat of flooding is wearing on vince as well. his home is still a work in progress after the january storm. it won't be ready for the start of the summer season. just weeks away. >> it's a grind. everybody wants to come down, but we'll get it back in shape.

direction, heavy rain headed south of neewark. it's moving north west. we are watching this that evening and scattered showers. aside from that, the coastal flooding threat until 1:00 in the morning. delaware beaches, high tide between 7:30 and 9:30, five hours later in the back bay, could see street flooding expected there, otherwise, further inland, kocloser to the delaware river, a coastal flood advisory, 2:22 in the morning, could have minor flooding in the areas that typically see it with a higher high tide. watching that closely, too, otherwise the rain, it's going to stay in the forecast for the next 12 hours or so. we're going to see big improvements throughout tomorrow and sunday. he's future weather, scattered showers, and overnight, noon

to straighten the road because behind frank's property, a larger one, one that's historic. abolition hall. the historic building owned privately along with a large plot of land, and now a developerments to put 48 town homes here. >> it's a landmark. >> the land mark stays, but the general store would be gone. >> it was part of the underground railroad in the civil war, and thereafter, and if you go in the basement here, and went -- it's like going through the catacombs, don't get lost. >> reporter: we went to the basement, opportunity tunnels and pathways to freedom used by slaves looking to escape are there leading to the old abolition hall. the plan calls to be filled if the road is widened. they have put in a bid to buy the land to preserve all that is here, but that bid was rejected. now community members are launching a fight to preserve this small, but they say, important piece of history. nbc 10.

right now another 6:00, relentless rain, no matter what neighborhood you live in, there was rain today, but there is relief in sight. right now, there's a flood threat, though, at the jersey shore when high tide rolls in. parts of the shore saw minor flooding this morning. >> storm force checked out soggy conditions in delaware today. how the rain is ruining people's spirits as we get to the weekend, but first will the rain clear out for saturday? >> nbc 10 meteorologist is here with how the weather impacts your neighborhood. >> for saturday, we'll see improvements, but we'll have showers in the forecast. right now, though, we have a lot of rain around, but most of it has alreadied off to the west and down to the south, so there's a big area of low pressure just spinning right around delaware, and what we have seen today is very heavy

rain this morning. that's moved out, so now we are just seeing the scattered lighter rainfall except if you are in newcastle county, that's one area where we, in fact, have one heavy pocket of rain moving through, so right around newark, 95, just in the north of middletown, this is moving out of new castle county soon, though, and we'll be left with the lighter showers as we go through tonight. aside from that, coastal flooding in the jersey shore and coastal beaches, a warning tonight at high tide, could be up to five hours later on the back bay. in the areas, you could see street flooding, so we'll watch that closely, and further inland, that would them start to affect the delaware river. a coastal flood advisory for this section with some minor needing possible, maybe along some of the streets, watching this closely as well. coming up, a look at the weekend forecast and how the improvements shape up your mother's day. >> well, the rain that just really won't quit is really messing up people's
