nbc 10 news starts now. right now at 6:00, do you have the winning ticket? someone is now a multimillionaire after winning last night's $429.6 million powerball jackpot, and it happened in our area. good evening. i'm denise nakano. just a short time ago we learned the winning ticket was purchased at a 7-eleven in trenton, mercer county, but the winner has not come forward just yet. here's a look at the winning numbers. they are 5, 25, 26, 44 and 66 and the powerball number is 9. nbc 10's lauren mayk is live

where the ticket was bought. >> reporter: we are live in mercer county and when we got here the first thing someone said to us was who won? i can tell you the person who bought that winning ticket bought it right here at this 7-eleven in trenton and they took the cash payout which means they get just a little over $300 million once they come forward. >> it's $284 million news. >> she woke me up and said there's a winner and it's in mercer county. >> these sisters say it's not them. we now know that the winning ticket was sold at this 7-eleven in trenton. >> i only have one number, number 5. >> reporter: you're not the winner? >> i'm not the winner. >> employee louis sandoval thinks he might have sold the winner here. >> i couldn't believe it. >> reporter: sandoval says it was tuesday afternoon and he's been asked not to reveal details. >> reporter: have you sold

winning tickets here before? >> not that big. this is the first one that we get this big. >> wow! i still can't believe it. i'm shaking right now. >> reporter: lottery regulars across the county were buzzing with the news and those who didn't play had some regrets. >> i went, oh, my goodness. i could have had a chance at winning. >> reporter: this store in hamilton township had been lucky before. >> i've had seven pick six winners and a scratch-off million dollar winner. >> reporter: sandoval is usually selling, not playing. >> are you going to play now? >> i'll probably give it a chance now. >> reporter: now he tells me he thinks that he recognized the woman who bought the ticket as someone who has been to this store before, but he can't be sure so we'll have to wait until that person comes forward. the store itself gets $30,000 for its part in the lucky ticket, and i can tell you that luis sandoval might be playing

powerball in the future. i'm lauren mayk, nbc 10 news. you couldn't ask for better weather on this mother's day and nbc 10 in hamilton, mercer county where the crowds were out enjoying the sunshine at the azalea festival. let's get a check of the forecast with chief meteorologist glenn "hurricane" schwartz and it's been a while since we've seen this much sunshine and it's a while since we've seen temperatures like this and we did get 70 degrees in philadelphia and we're down to 69, still a lot of sunshine out there and even a cool spot in the pennsylvania suburb and 67 in new jersey and in delaware and we have sunshine everywhere. the temperatures are close to 70 at pens port and winchester park and also in summerton and the airport did get over 70 degrees today. >> on the radar, we have one area of a little sprinkle just west of the poconos and not going to do anything as we go

over yet. once the sun sets here, all of this will be lit up and it's really colorful and a cool spot to spend mother's day. i'm drew smith, nbc 10 news. a missing jet skier, the coast guard has suspended its search forres is us diaz melendez. he and a friend were tossed into the water near the trenton boat ramp in the delaware river. the crew from a nearby ship rescued melendez's friend, but no word how he was injured. the coast guard searched for melendez until 10:00 last night. tonight we learned a baby girl critically injured in a crash on henry avenue last weekend has died. >> 7 week old zyana wilson died from her injuries friday. >> she has been in the accident since it killed her father and 6-year-old eric clarksdale perez last sunday. >> the crash happened along a

wet henry avenue avenue in philadelphia neighborhood. the driver crossed on to the oncoming lanes and hit a second car. six others are still recover fromming their injuries. >>. >> turning now to decision 2016 and the race for the white house. the new jersey primary is still about a month away, but the garden state is already a focus for the presidential candidates. >> democrat bernie sanders kicked off a two-day campaign swing in new jersey with a rally at rutgers university. many of them students at the rutgers athletic center in piscataway. including ensuring universal health care and plans to make colleges and universities tuition-free and increasing wages for american workers. >> we are going to make certain that if you work 40 hours a week in the united states you are not going to be living in poverty.

>> sanders will hold another rally tomorrow morning at boardwalk hall in atlantic city. >> sanders' rival hillary clinton is also focusing on new jersey. she'll be in camden county wednesday where she'll be discussing her plans to raise wages and break down barriers that hold americans back. her daughter chelsea will host grassroots organizing events and essex and middlesex counties this friday. the presumptive republican nominee will visit new jersey later this month. donald trump will appear at a pair of fund raisers on may 19th and one to help governor chris christie erase debt from his own white house campaign and another to benefit the state's gop. today republican senator pat toomey of pennsylvania voiced his concern about trump's abilities, in an editorial on philly.com and in it he called trump's candidacy highly problematic and went on to say as the republican elected official he's inclined to support his party's nominee.

toomey also wrote it is up to trump to make a case for himself in a way that reassures the millions of republicans and non-republicans who have grave doubts about him. winning the nomination is a great accomplishment, but it does not mean party members check their judgment at the door. fighting back. penn state's president is taking a stand against new allegations against joe pattern on. his message to the penn state community next. plus rallying for change. people hitting the streets to celebrate pennsylvania's legalization of medical marijuana, but they're not satisfied just yet. what they want the state to do next.

molester jerry sandusky. aaron baron talked about the controversy in a letter to the community. new allegations surfaced last week suggesting the late joe pattern on was told sandusky abused a child on campus back in 1976. court documents also claim assistant coaches witnessed children being abused in the 1980s. in his letter baron wrote i want you to know i am appalled by the rumor, innuendo and rush to judgment that have accomplished the media story surrounding these allegations. all too often in our society people are convicted in the court of public opinion only to find a different outcome when all of the facts are presented. glenn? >> well, the sun finally came out today. look at that picture, but just how long is this nice weather going to stick around? i'll tell you when you can expect more rain in my first-alert seven-day forecast.

new at 6:00, dozens of people hit the streets of philadelphia today to rally for more marijuana reform in pennsylvania. it was all part of a global cannabis march celebrated across the country. this comes as both the state and city have taken steps to decriminalize the use of marijuana. nbc 10's andrea cline-thomas joins us live from city hall. they had a message for state lawmakers? >> reporter: yes. first, putting this into context, in 2014 philadelphia decriminalized the use of marijuana and governor wolf signed a bill making medical marijuana legal across the state. so today's gathering was both celebratory and also a rally to hope for even more changes, dozens gathered at eighth and market and they lit up and walked to city hall. many drivers honked in support along the way. the group wants marijuana to be fully legalized and regulated in

philadelphia and the entire state. the reasons include wanting to use it recreationally and also because of the number of people getting sent to jail for drug offenses and they say the state is losing out on a potential financial benefit and they have a state representative on their side. >> it's not about people being able to recreationally smoke all of the time. >> no. it makes fiscal sense for us to do this the right way. >> our representative harris wants to have a bill that fully legalizes and regulates marijuana across the state right now and he's looking for co-sponsor ship. i'm andrea cline-thomas, nbc 10 news. there was a sea of pink on this mother's day for the annual susan g. komen race for the cure. the event got off to an emotional start as hundreds of breast cancer survivors walked down the steps of the philadelphia museum of art. many were joined by family members and friends who banded

and quite a change from what we saw last week. well, we were 56 degrees on friday and 63 yesterday 71 degrees today for the high and 74 degrees coming on monday. so the sunshine is returning and those temperatures are going straight up, not necessarily to 80 degrees this week, but we're going to be seeing more of these temperatures in the 07s and we do have sprinkles just west of allentown and some of them could come in during the evening hours and that's a very, very weak system and this one is pretty weak, too and this one is tracking down to the south and is not going to be affecting us. so the futurecast, we go through the night and you can see a few of those very light showers up toward allentown and we start the day off tomorrow with sunshine, but then the clouds increase. you don't really see any kind of rain. there's monday night and here's tuesday. we have some chances of showers

in delaware and south jersey, but that is about it. partly cloudy skies and the latest temperatures in the 70s and trenton at 71 and hattenfield at 73. at the shore, atlantic city, 65. galaway, of 8 and it will be much cooler at the shore and as we get into tuesday and dover, 67 degrees and you can see the cooler weather on tuesday and back to warmer weather on wednesday and a similar story in the pennsylvania suburbs and in the lehigh valley, look at that, 76 degrees on wednesday and the jersey shore down to 56 tuesday and then the chance of showers coming in on wednesday, and the forecast is generally dry and we need some time to dry out, and more showers on saturday. and a weather forecast and
