it was a gorgeous day yesterday. lots of sunshine and another nice spring day, 51 degrees. right now clear in philadelphia. the suburbs running cooler in the 40s now, 43 degrees new jersey, interior new jersey has dropped down to 40 degrees and 42 degrees in the lehigh valley. cool start. we'll see enough sunshine these temperatures will be warming into the low 70s this afternoon. right now, society içill is 53 degrees, 43 degrees in chestnut hill. when i'm back in ten minutes, we'll go through futurecast hour by hour to show you what is on tap for today. traffic wise, let's find out. jessica boyington has your first alert traffic. jessie? >> we're starting off on the vine street expressway right now around 24th street. we are open in both directions so you don't have to worry about the ongoing construction that might set you back. a lot of times we have it closed between broad street and the schuylkill expressway until about 5:00 in the morning. right over here, no problems around 24th street westbound and eastbound open to traffic. you're good heading to the

schuylkill or 95. there's construction skews paving the roads on relevanty drive. that's between hunting park avenue and brewery drive. 422 looks okay as well. we are in the green, eight minutes eastbound from 29 with speeds into the 60s. more updates when i come back in the next ten. >> jessica, thanks. right now, police are searching a wooded area in ocean county for an escaped inmate buckle. this rest stop is not far from lacey township where buckle was seen last week. matt delucia is at the scene of the manhunt. matt, what are police telling you. >>? we're getting new information almost by the hour here. we're at the rest stop you mentioned here along the garden state parkway. you can see some of the new jersey state police units and

department of corrections unit that have mobilized in the parking lot. they've been here for several hours after it is believed that the escaped inmate was spotted here last night. take a look at new video from where we are as the search for 38-year-old arthur buckle continues. he's been missing since last tuesday. police have been using okay nene unit -- canine units to search the area. air units have been up as well throughout the evening. arthur buckle escaped from prison days before he was scheduled to be up for parole. right now he's been serving a sentence for aggravated assault, drug possession and burglary. he has been caught on surveillance cameras a couple of times since his escape. we've been told now most recently by state police just within the past few hours that buckle was caught on surveillance video here at the service station around 9 oo. 30 last night. he used an employee's cell phone, then gave the phone back and left. of course we are expecting more

in the way of a plan from police later this morning as to what the next steps will be. we'll be staying on top of updates. i'll be back again in 30 minutes at 4:30 with another update. for now, live in forken river, ocean county, matt delucia, nbc 10 news. 4:04. 52 degrees. we're following more breaking news. police are looking for a man they say called 911 to report they murdered his girlfriend. nbc 10's katy zachry is live on scene. what do we know about the investigation so far? >> tracy, quite a bizarre sequence of events. behind me, overnight, 911 dispatchers got a call from a manç living on the 3200 block roarer street in kensington. he told dispatchers that he killed his girlfriend. when police arrived they did find a woman inside this home. she was dead. there were four children sleeping at the time of this.

now, we understand police woke them up and we understand they have been removed from the house. detectives have been out here for quite some time. this is where things get interesting. they have been able to follow this cell phone pings of the individual who called 911 saying he killed his girlfriend. he was last detected along a route in the delaware. in the last few minutes, we're told police have made contact with him. he's been on the phone with police, talking to them. they are night now working on the best car description, because he did flee from this scene in a vehicle, either his or possibly the girlfriend that he claims to have killed. and he is heading, as we are told, south right now. he's been in touch with police. they've been on the phone with him. they are trying to ascertain the best vehicle description to get that out to police along the route and also to the public. so that people can be on the lookout for him.

they want this individual in custody. a lot of questions unanswered in this. we'll stay on top of it. another update coming up in 25 minutes, hopefully that car description. reporting live in kensington, katy zachry, nbc 10 news. 4:0. new from overnight, philadelphia police say a fight between two homeless men ended in a stabbing. investigators say the fight started at 12th and race around midnight. the victim has minor injuries to his face. the suspect is in custody. happening today, new jersey lottery officials will tell us more about the winning ticket in this weekend's powerball drawing. one person matched every number in the drawing but we still don't know who that person is. the jackpot reached $429.6 million. the lump sum pay outis about 284 million. it is the largest single jackpot winning ticket ever sold in new jersey. >> just glad it's from trenton, new jersey. it could be in north dakota, all

that, this is capital of new jersey. we need revenue, what up, we need this money. >> the lottery briefing this morning will happen later. we'll bring you updates during our 11:00 newscast and on the nbc 10 app. the norristown fire department and red cross will be handing out and installing free smoke detectors after a fire over the weekend killed three people, including a child. since saturday on the fire on dekalb street, neighbors have been leaving flowers, stuffed animals and balloons in memory of the victims outside the burned out home. all three were trapped when the house erupted in flames. emergency responders rushed several people to the hospital. fire officials are still searching for the cause of that fire. haing today, a judge is scheduled to sentence a philadelphia man who raped four young girls. antoine brown pleaded no contest. police arrested him for assaulting the girls in germantown in four separate incidents in 2013. )e between 12 and

17 years old. we have new information on the penn state child sex abuse scandal. last night the university revealed it paid out settlements to jerry sandusky's accusers for alleged abuse dating back to 1971. that's 40 years before the former assistant football coach was arrested. this is the first time penn state confirmed just how far back the settlements went. the school has paid more than $90 million to set more than two dozen civil claims against sandusky. the revelation comes as the university president eric baron blasted new allegations involving sandusky and the late joe paterno. in a letter to the penn state community, baron wrote about what he called a media frenzy. baron wrote i want you to know i am appalled by the rumor innuendo and rush to judgment that have accompanied the media

stories surrounding these allegations. in contrast, over the last two days we have worked to be dill jen the in re-analyzing the record of reports and depositions to ensure that our reactions and comments are both responsible and trustworthy. family, friends and philadelphia police officers remember officer gary skerski. ten years ago he was gunned down in the line of duty. philadelphia. 67 and near 70 in the afternoon. as the system to the west starts moving into the area, the clouds increase as we go into the afternoon. same can be said for the lehigh valley. 47 degrees at 7:00. as we get closer to lunch time, it willç be in the 60s and nea 70 degrees at 3:00. more sunshine late in the afternoon in the lehigh valley. delaware, completely dry to begin with. we'll be watching the clouds increase. southern delaware may be in for spotty showers. we'll show you that in the futurecast in just a second. most of the area will be dry. new jersey and the jersey shore, brilliant sunshine to begin with. clouds coming in as the morning progresses and the afternoon will be turning cloudy and farther to the south we could see a shower. this is the futurecast, 10:00 this morning, here come the first of the clouds in delaware and south jersey. it stays nice and clear for philadelphia, the suburbs and into the lehigh valley. those clouds will move farther

to the north. we'll see filtered sunshine, 2:00 this afternoon. at that time, scattered showers or at least a chance of them in central and southern delaware and into south jersey, might even see a brief shower in cape may. the steadier showers will stay well to the south. that's 5:00 this afternoon. some clouds are out. most of the day will be completely to the dry end. these are the neighborhoods we're looking at, philadelphia, the pennsylvania suburbs, lehigh valley, into the low 70s. for delaware and south jersey and at the jersey shore, nice warmup there, too. wildwood will be cooler. 67 degrees with those clouds coming in. and to the south, there's a chance of a shower in dewey beach at 68 degrees. that's today. there's the seven-day. when i'm back to look at the ten-day outlook. >> 12 minutes past 4:00. let's get you to work on this monday. starting with 295. first alert traffic reporter jessica boyington is looking at that. >> 295 over in cherry hill, new jersey around route 70. no problems in either direction. a lot of cars out there.

4:16. we're following breaking news in ocean county where police are following leads on an escaped inmate. state police believe that someone spotted arthur buckle at the forked river rest stop along the garden state parkway. troopers say surveillance video at the service station captured images of buckle last night. according to investigators, he used an employee's cell phone, gave it back and then left. nbc 10's matt delucia is on scene. he'll be back with an update in 15 minutes. from our jersey shore bureau, two people are safe after the coast guard rescued them from their sinking sailboat

five miles off the coast of sea isle city, ocean county. the coast guard towed the damaged boat back to port. no one was hurt. in mercer county, the coast guard suspended its search for a missing jet skier. jesus diaz melendez fell into the river saturday evening. the crew from a nearby boat rescued the friend. the coast guard searched by boat and helicopter for melendez until late saturday night. happening today, north carolina faces a justice department deadline on the state's new and controversial bathroom law. it all has to do with public rest room access. the law requires transgender people to use public bathrooms corresponding to the sex on their birth certificate. the feds say this is a civil rights violation.

today the maryland man accused of killing three people in a shooting spree will be in court. police say last thursday 62-year-old tordil killed his estranged wife in a parking lot. tordil is a federal protective service employee. now your nbc 10 first alert weather with meteorologist bill henley. >> we're looking at clear skies this morning and temperatures that will be climbing into the 70s this afternoon. looks similar to what we had yesterday, at least to start with. clear skies, a nice live view from center city which will see enough sunshine to warm things up. that's one of the warm spots at 51 degrees. in the 40s for most of the rest of the area. along the shore, it's in the low 40s, upper 40s, near 50. it's cooler inland.

piny hollow is 43. clarence and lumberton in the mid-40s. we'll see enough sunshine to warm things up fairly quickly this morning. we'll also see a southwesterly wind during the day today. that will do two things, warm us up and bring in clouds this afternoon after a clear start, the clouds will be moving in later today. you can see the clouds to the west. it will come with showers, too. the showers moving into the ohio valley. the shower threat for us looks like it will stay mainly to the south during the day today. a good chance we're see showers around for tomorrow. right now, the clouds show on futurecast that they'll be moving in during the day. this is 2:30 this afternoon. clouds for parts of the area through south jersey, delaware into maryland. to the north it will stay nice and clear at 2:30. the clouds will be creeping farther to the north as a chance of showers develops by this evening. that's 8:30 this evening. a pretty good chance we'll see showers tomorrow as well. the seven-day forecast at the

philadelphia art museum steps in a sea of pink for the 26th annual susan g. komen race for the cure. yesterday's event began with a survivor's parade of pink. many were joined by family members and friends who banded together to show support for those who survived and those who lost their battles, along with those still fighting the disease. >> this time last year i was struggling with chemotherapy treatment and i was watching on television and it was giving me hope. i hope to do that for someone that's going through the treatment right now. >> organizers say 25,000 people registered for the event and thou thousands more came out to support. a portion of the money raised goes to breast cancer research. mother's day is a time for honoring all mom's hard work. it was founded by philadelphian anna jarvis. the holiday was first officially observed in 1908 honoring motherhood and family at a time
