nbc 10 news starts now. >> new from overnight, forced out by flames. fire damages a burlington county apartment building leaving ten people without a place to stay. and there's this. >> so kids and a mom for no reason. >> tears and frustration as gun violence takes a life in chester. a 14-year-old died in a shooting that also left two other people hurt. and targeting the zika virus. today health officials in delaware will work to educate residents about the danger of the disease, plus offer kids to help prevent the illness. good morning. this is nbc 10 news today. i'm tracy davidson. let's start with bill henley with his first alert neighborhood forecast. a close look at conditions in

communities across pennsylvania, new jersey and delaware. bill has you covered. >> tracy, we've got some fog to the west. it's improved in the last few minutes. while it's dense fog in hazelton. light fog at the airport. half a mile visibility there. wrightstown is just under a mile. farther to the south, it's not an issue this morning. the temperatures will be climbing. we'll see some sunshine today. but we're still tracking a few isolated showers to the south. completely dry in philadelphia. 51 degrees now in parkside. while it's 57 in society hill. clouds to the south, a few sprinkles in cumberland county. but most of the area is dry. and the clouds will be thinning for some sunshine before the next round of showers moves in. a look at the futurecast when i'm back in ten minutes. right now let's see how traffic is looking on a monday morning. jessica with traffic. >> we're already pretty light this morning. starting off with normal construction projects that aren't active again this morning. there's the vine street expressway.

no closure here. you can see no problems in either direction. and every once in a while maybe a car will drive through. if you typically take this and you tune in to see if we're dealing with that construction this morning, you're good to go. also an accident in norristown, arch street and east chestnut street. possible delays behind that. for right now okay. route 202 looks great. ten minutes either direction north or southbound from route 30 to the schuylkill destroy. also in the green there. tracy. >> thanks. 4:02. new from overnight, crews battled a fire that left ten people without a place to stay. the flames broke out just before midnight at the woodlane crossing apartments in edgewater park. more than 50 firefighters from surrounding communities helped get the situation under control. no one was hurt. the red cross is helping affected residents. right now the search is on for the shooter who killed a teenager in chester over the weekend. that teen was one of three people shot during the same violent incident. nbc 10's matt delucia is live at

headquarters. what do you know? >> reporter: chester police are still going through video from a nearby store and they're also pleading with the public to try to get some information especially from neighbors and witnesses who were there. more than 24 hours now after that shooting, residents on the city's west side are still looking for justice. a 14-year-old was killed. nas nichols is the boy on the right of this photo. on the left is his 16-year-old cousin who was critically injured in the shooting. police say they were innocent bystanders walking down the street. this happened near 10th & pine around 8:00 on saturday night. investigators say someone fired dozens of bullets at adults sitting in a car. there was another innocent victim here, an adult, janeen shipley. she still has a bullet under her skin and her eye is scratched from broken glass. >> you knew that there was kids out there. there was kids out there.

like no remorse, no nothing. they didn't care. >> reporter: now the motive here is still unknown. chester's mayor says the community has to work together to make the area safer. the mayor says that there is also a reward being offered for a conviction related to this murder. we're also working to get some of that surveillance video hopefully putting that out to the public will help to catch the people responsible for this. so we'll be following that throughout the day. for now live in chester, matt delucia, nbc 10 news. grief counselors will be at burlington city high school this morning after a student was killed by an alleged drunk driver. a car hit the teen along route 130 south at the intersection of east federal street in burlington. 17-year-old antoine timbers jr. was walking home with a friend after leaving early sunday morning. investigators say the two were walking on the side of the road when an suv hit timbers. police arrested 42-year-old ricardo patterson and charged him with dui and reckless driving.

>> i seen the black escalade truck jump the curb, hit this pole that they were putting back up and hit the guy. and i seen him laying on the ground. >> according to his dad, antoine was in the rotc and hoped to one day join the military. delaware governor jack markell has declared this zika awareness day. delaware's department of public health will be distributing zika prevention kits for pregnant women at clinics. this comes on the heels of a report that 279 pregnant women in the u.s. and its territories tested positive for zika. meantime, democratic lawmakers are calling on their republican counterparts to fund the fight against zika. >> the house of representatives ought to get with it and vote the money that's needed so we can stop zika from becoming a scourge this summer here in new york and in the rest of the country. >> house republicans say the obama administration has padded its request for zika money. three months ago the president asked for nearly $2 billion in

emergency funding to combat the virus. one person is recovering this morning after a house fire in west philadelphia. take a look at the scene on north 55th street last night. firefighters rescued one person from a room on the third floor of the home. another person escaped through a second story window. >> and it was fire right there. they say when you see smoke, it's fire. i couldn't see to get on the floor. i just thought the window was my best option. >> she says a pot left unattended on the stove may have started the fire. the official cause is under investigation. it's 4:06. this morning friends and family are mourning the loss of a student from bucks county. officials say she fell off a roof at a home in state college on friday after grabbing a high-voltage wire. autopsy results say she died from electrocution. she was from warrington. her death is being called an accident. and the lights are back on

in society hill after an underground cable malfunctioned, caused power outages and evacuations. it took all day yesterday to restore the power near 6th & pine. neighbors tell us she woke up around 1:00 a.m. sunday to a loud boom that shattered windows. more than 120 homes lost power. peco says an underground cable was burning, and the pressure forced manhole covers to pop off. now your nbc 10 first alert neighborhood weather with meteorologist bill henley. >> live look at cape may. you can see it looks a bit damp. there have been a few light showers to the south in cape may. you can see them on the radar, on the satellite, very light shower activity. barely noticeable. but it has produced a few damp roads. it's already dried out in cape may. these showers will be crossing delaware bay and into central delaware. but otherwise the showers pushing to the west. so most of the area is going to stay dry this morning. there's a good chance we'll see showers develop again this

afternoon. we're still in that showery pattern. though it's not going to be an all-day rainfall and clouds are breaking to the northwest. so we'll see some sunshine during the day. futurecast shows clouds breaking at 10:00. sunshine, we'll see a lot of it. clouds linger to the south in cape may and southern and central delaware. those clouds will be back in the afternoon. as we heat up in the afternoon and warm into the 70s today, you can see the showers that are developing for philadelphia into new jersey and delaware. scattered light showers to begin with, but then as we go into the afternoon, a possibility of some heavier thunderstorms and even a chance of some showers into later this evening. so the forecast is calling for temperatures to climb, yes. we'll get some sunshine, too. upper 70s in bethlehem and easton. a chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms there. phoenixville and westchester, 75. morning sunshine before any showers pop up this afternoon. and middle to upper 70s in philadelphia. 77 degrees this afternoon. clouds will linger in new

accident in montgomery in norristown. arch street and east chestnut street. and here's cherry hill, new jersey, route 70 near kings highway, no big delays or backups in this intersection. >> jessica, thanks. new information about the man caught on tape taking pictures up women's skirts in delaware county. > and police say the same man is behind several of the crimes including this incident captured on security video inside a pretzel factory store. who officers say is responsible. a safer ride. we'll tell you about the safety feature up and running on one regional rail line.

4:00 right thousanow. a judge is expected to issue a verdict in the trial of a baltimore police officer charged in the death of freddie gray. officer edward nero is one of six baltimore police officers facing charges in connection with gray's arrest and death. he graduated from washington township high school. nero is charged with second-degree assault, reckless endangerment and misconduct of office. nero chose to have a judge decide his case rather than a jury. the man upper darby police believe is responsible for taking pictures up women's skirts is behind bars this morning. upper darby police arrested bobby hayden of chester township over the weekend. he's being held in county jail after failing to post bail. here's surveillance video of the incident at the pretzel factory on may 10th. police say hayden is the man snapping pictures up a woman's skirt. investigators say hayden did the same thing to another woman last thursday in media. he's facing several charges including invasion of privacy, harassment and disorderly

conduct. through this morning, president obama announced the end to an arms embargo on vietnam that had been in place since the vietnam war. the president is making his first visit to the communist country. vietnam is seen as a crucial u.s. partner in the region, but the president is still pushing for more human rights there. >> where we still have differences, there's been modest progress on some of the areas that we've identified as concerns. >> the president wants a better balance with vietnam as china works to claim disputed territory in the south china sea. president obama also talked about the death of a taliban leader. he says it marks an important milestone in the effort to bring peace to afghanistan. monsieur was killed in a u.s. drone strike ordered by the president on friday. he took over leadership less than a year ago. the taliban has stepped up its attacks against afghan forces and seized more afghan territory.

the search continues in the mediterranean sea for the black boxes from egyptair flight 804. egypt sent a robot submarine to join the hunt for the wreckage in the mediterranean. debris and human remains have been recovered. egypt's president says mounting evidence points to a sudden and dramatic catastrophe as the cause of the crash. dozens of women returning from a church retreat are recovering this morning after a crash on a california highway. their shuttle bus overturned in san bernardino mountains yesterday. two of the victims are in critical condition. two dozen others were hurt. police in michigan say a semitruck ran a stop sign at a railroad crossing and collided with a train, and here's what's left. the truck driver is in the hospital with serious injuries. he was pulled from the truck after it caught fire. the railroad crossing does not have flashing lights or a gate. and this morning firefighters in california are battling a brush fire roughly half the size of fairmont park. the fire began yesterday

afternoon in soledad which is about an hour south of san jose. crews are attacking the fast-moving flames from the ground and the air. so far no one is hurt and no homes have burned. now your nbc 10 first alert neighborhood weather with meteorologist bill henley. >> 16 minutes after 4:00. 55 degrees. and we are mainly dry. there have been a few scattered showers in delaware. south of wilmington. this is a live view from the stadium this morning. the temperatures now in the 50s. 56 currently in wilmington. satellite and radar show those showers just to the south. can you see them moving into maryland. a few more raindrops moving across delaware bay. but most of the area is dry. we're getting some breaks in the clouds, too. we will see some sunshine today before the next round of showers pops up. and that's going to be this afternoon. then we're going to finally break out of this rainy pattern. the low pressure off to the east is going to be pushing out of here. and the dry weather you can see to the west, that's what we're

going to be in store for for much of the rest of the week. but it's going to come with much warmer temperatures. it's going to feel like summer for the rest of the weekend into next week. no sign of any rainfall this morning for most of the area. but there is a possibility of some showers and thunderstorms. so we could see a quick quarter of an inch of rain during the day today. seven-day outlook plus three for the ten-day outlook. 76 this afternoon. those afternoon showers and thunderstorms tomorrow, an early shower is possible. then mainly dry. a high of 77 degrees. and look at wednesday. sunshine and the temperatures take off. are the warming process starts tomorrow. really warms up on wednesday. and come thursday, possibly up to 90 degrees. and still hot next -- going into next weekend, friday, 88 degrees. saturday and sunday we'll get a break from the rain, get some sunshine. look at those temperatures. upper 80s on saturday. 85 degrees on sunday. then monday, a week from today, we'll be in for more showers and thunderstorms. much warmer than today.

up to 86. and the 80s continue for tuesday and wednesday. tracy? >> all right, bill, thanks for that. now you have the ten-day outlook. now the outlook on the schuylkill expressway for your ride to work. jessica has that. >> tracy, we're doing great so far on the schuylkill expressway. this is right around montgomery drive. you can see no big problems or delays in either direction. we did have a little bit of earlier construction around 30th street headed westbound. that's cleared out of the way. so you'll have no big lane restrictions really to speak of here eastbound from the blue route to the vine street expressway. still a 12-minute trip. speeds into the 60s there as well. also watching delaware and newcastle, some construction 295 southbound between route 9 and 95. reduced to two lanes there. that may cause delays later in the morning. also watching the pa turnpike. doing okay. no big problems westbound or eastbound from route 1. still 23 minutes. watch for construction around route 29. there's some ramp restrictions over the ez pass lane.

4:22. good morning, cape may. the pavement is a bit wet as a few passing showers move in. there is a threat of showers and thunderstorms again this afternoon. right now 55 degrees there. well, the pomp and circumstance is over. now it's time for college grads to face the real world. and there are some things even recent grad should know to keep from falling deep into debt. financial experts say college grads should not rush to buy a car or get a more expensive apartment. their focus should be on paying off student loans, if they have them. don't defer them. >> what they don't realize is if you defer your loans, the interest is continuing to accrue. so while you don't have to pay every month, the bill is getting much bigger as that interest

gets added on top of that. so do whatever you can to knock those loans out as quickly as you can. >> wilson also suggested college grads should get one credit card to build credit and amass a six-month emergency saving fund. speaking of savings, preparing for retirement is something both millennials and older americans need to worry about. in a survey by bankrate.com, three-quarters of americans expressed serious regrets over how poorly they've handled their money. but it's regret millennials can quickly reverse. >> you're just starting out in the workforce, this is a good time to give up, you know, maybe a couple of lattes and a hulu subscription every month and put that money into savings. >> experts say it's never too early to start saving for retirement. well, eagles fans who are women got a day all to themselves at lincoln financial field. yesterday they hosted their inaugural football festival for women. and the ladies got a chance to see some of the players' musical side.

♪ eagles' center jason kelce and tackle bo allen showed off their vocal skills. the women also tested their football skills with on-field drills and learned xs and os from eagles coaches. a wedding wish comes true for a philadelphia couple, but the road to the altar has not been an easy one for lonnie brown and karen fraiger. back in 2014, a year after they got engaged, lonnie was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer. thanks to wish upon a wedding, the couple got a free dream wedding, and yesterday they said their "i-dos." currently lonnie is undergoing chemotherapy. he says through it all karen has been his rock. >> to have that person to lean on and cry on and talk to and have that shoulder to lean on just makes it so much beautiful.

is about to get more support. it's just about 4:29. good morning. this is nbc 10 news today. i'm tracy davidson. right to meteorologist bill henley with his first alert forecast. you've been seeing some fog. >> this is what's going on right now. these are live pictures from around our area. and in the lehigh valley at easton, you can see some of that fog in the distance. the fog won't last. the temperatures will be climbing. so the fog disappears but there will be some clouds to start with. breaks of sunshine by 10:00, look at the warm-up. 65 degrees. 56 degrees now in philadelphia. these numbers will climb into the 70s today. 74 degrees with a chance of some afternoon showers in new jersey at the shore mainly cloudy skies and 68. and for the lehigh valley, for delaware, philadelphia and the suburbs, a chance of afternoon showers and thunderstorms after we get some sunshine this morning. and then later on this week, the heat is on. the seven-day forecast. you can see it at the bottom of the screen. take a look at the futurecast
