we flew over the scene around 6:30 this evening. neighbors say the police came to the door and the suspect fired shots at the officers. a suspect is in custody here. imagine, a world where you get sick and doctors have no way to help. >> the medicine cabinet is empty for some patients. >> routine illnesses turning deadly. experts say it could be the future now that a bacteria has arrived in pennsylvania. doctors say this is the first time they've seen this bacteria in the united states. they found it somewhere in pennsylvania, but health fifshls won't say exactly where. >> pennsylvania, ground zero tonight for what's been suspected and now confirmed. the ultimate super bug, a strain of e-coli resistant to the

antibiotic found in the urine of a woman. >> i think on a scale of one to ten we're at ten and it's not just for pennsylvania. >> tonight infectious disease specialists are not holding back. sounding the alarm to nbc 10, urging patients to question their doctor the next time they're prescribed an antibiotic that they may not need, the consequences could be devastating. >> we're trying to avoid seeing patients with an infection with a bacteria there's so resistant that we have no available antibiotics to use and treat that patient. >> doctor young studied the over use of ant by theics and found 30% are prescribed unnecessarily. that's 47 million prescriptions each year. >> we need to do a very comprehensive job protecting

antibiotics so we can have them and our children can have them. >> the cdc is investigating how the pennsylvania woman discovered seven months ago and a small number of people in china before being found in europe, africa, canada and now the u.s. >> we contacted the state health officials tonight to try to get more information about the pennsylvania woman's case but by law they're not allowed to share the information other than to confirm she is alive. it appears because her infection was not in her blood it was ultimately treatable. another big story tonight, the heat. we got this bird's eye view as the sun set cooling things off a little bit tonight but earlier today the heat proved dangerous. 20 students had simple toms of heat exhaustion. the students go to the middle school. two girls p taken to the hospital and we're expecting more heat tomorrow. we have your first alert

neighborhood weather. higher temperatures tomorrow? it should be a little bit hotter and a little bit more humid. the higher humidity preventing the temperatures from dropping. 80 degrees at this moment in the lee high valley. this is really warm for this time of night for this time of year. you can see the tremendous warming trend we've had. we got up to 90 degrees today and 92 on friday and the low 90s on saturday. the heat and sunshine helping combine for the air quality which is code red. during the day tomorrow you want to limit your outdoor activity and we just have some isolated showers on radar now but later in the weekend it's a different story. i'll break that down in a few minutes. new at 11:00 evidence markers litter the aftermath of

a triple shooting. we're over the scene. three men in their 20s were taken to the hospital. they're all expected to be okay. police recovered two guns at the scene but so far no arrests. a southwest philadelphia high school student is hospitalized tonight badly hurt after stepping in to defend his teacher. the teacher was trying to break up a large fight when the crowd turned on him. drew smith spoke with the injured student's father tonight who wants to see the attackers arrested. >> reporter: he has been in a hospital bed since shortly after school dismissed yesterday. >> he's in a lot of pain. >> reporter: his jaw is broken in two places. he won't be able to eat solid food for a while. >> he won't be able to talk. >> reporter: it was here at the school where the district says a large group of students from three different schools began fighting. >> a huge fight.

>> reporter: the father met us outside the hospital. he says the ninth grader couldn't stand by when the crowd turned on his teacher. >> my son was trying to do the right thing. he was trying to help his teacher. >> reporter: investigators are working to id the people involved but the boy's father said it never should have happened. >> the only thing you should have to worry about is learning. you shouldn't have to worry about safety or protect your teachers. >> reporter: the district says any time there's an incident like this the school will investigate. the father says he's going to file a full report with the philadelphia police. in southwest philadelphia i'm drew smith. new twist in decision 2016. fresh off hitting the delegates he needs to clench the gop nomination donald trump is welcoming bernie sanders proposal that they meet in a

debate. trump says the tv hosting the event would have to put up millions of dollars for charity. both candidates are feeling confident about how they would do going head to head. >> i thank mr. trump for agreeing to a debate. i look forward to it and i look forward to defeating him and becoming the democratic nominee. >> i'd love to debate bernie. the problem with debating bernie is he's going to lose because his system is rigged just like our system is rigged. >> sanders has challenged hillary clinton to a debate but she's declined. the democratic front-runner held rallies in california tonight where she continued to fire off at trump. >> donald trump is an unqualified loose cannon who cannot get near the most powerful job in the world. it is up to us to say no. >> clinton vowed that democrats will rally together and told her supporters she looks forward to meeting trump this fall.

the democrats running for wilmington mayor faced off tonight. seven candidates pushed their public safety platforms in a debate at the grand opera house. the debate was supposed to happen back on april 21st but it was postponed when a 16-year-old girl died inside that school. parents are nervous about bus service being cut for middle school students. they packed a meeting tonight, possible cuts coming after several child lures are being reported. the state wants to see more efficient bus service. kicked out of a mcdonald's bathroom because she's transgend transgender. the woman said she never saw a child in the bathroom and she shared her story with us. >> reporter: she shared a selfie of how she said she looked when she stopped at a mcdonald's in

new jersey wednesday. misty who transitioned from a male to a woman said the manager questioned her identity while she tried to use the women's bathroom. >> she came back a third time and said that i did not belong in the rest room and i needed to leave. >> reporter: we spoke to the manager over the phone. she says a customer complained when her daughter saw her in the bathroom wm she says she tried to show the manager and the customer her id but they didn't care to see it. >> the manager state people have their opinions. >> reporter: how did that make you feel when you heard that. >> it was enablely infur rating. >> the manager says she would never discriminate against anyone and added the little girl was scared. she wasn't to address the concern. >> to the best of my knowledge i was the only person in the women's room and did i ever interact with any child at all.

>> reporter: new jersey doesn't have a gender bathroom law but it does have an anti-discrimination law which states no public place can deny anyone services based on their gender identity. misty says she wants an apology from mcdonald's. she's in the process of talking to attorneys about filing a discrimination lawsuit which would involve a subpoena to mcdonald's to use their surveillance video. in new jersey i'm brandon hudson. a measure to save atlantic city from running out of cash is heading to governor chris christie's desk. new jersey lawmakers approved the bill today. it protects the town from a state takeover for at least five months. governor christie had supported an immediate takeover but this gives him the authority to help ac. he'll decide quickly whether to sign it. a bill to raise new jersey's minimum wage to $15 an hour is moving to trenton as well.

the measure was passed today and now it heads to the senate. that bill would raise the rate over the next five years. it would starts with an increase to $10.10 an hour on january 1st. today another lawmakers took the witness stand in the corruption trial. >> it was a simple matter to testify to. >> pennsylvania senator bob casy testified about a letter he received. that letter advocated for an embassadorship. he paid for help getting a political appointment but the senator says he did not act on the endorsement. he maintains his innocence. eagles defensive end connor barwin was honord in south philadelphia tonight. he is recognized for his support of children's programs. three police officers were also honored with special recognition awards and 17 received years of service awards.

>> that's correct. and with that the championship trophy will be shared by two guys from texas and new york. glenn, can you use that in a sentence, please? >> i pass. >> okay. how about the weather. never really great at spelling. we do have some warmer weather in northern portions of the area. the coolest weather is at the jersey shore and that's where it was today. we have wind coming in off the ocean but the ocean is now up to 61 degrees. that sea breeze will keep the shore areas relatively cool over the next few days. we have that air quality alert for tomorrow and the memorial day weekend forecast is looking pretty hot for saturday. 93 degrees in philadelphia, 92 in pa suburbs.

79 at the jersey shore but that's still pretty nice and comfortable. a lot of sunshine and not quite as warm on sunday and then the clouds start to come in. memorial day looks the cloudiest. the best chance of rain and the coolest and that's true throughout the area and you'll see why in just a minute. we do have some isolated showers. you can see to the west but there's really not that much on the radar close by. what's interesting going on is out in the ocean we're seeing a possible tropical development out east of the ba ham maus and computer models do take it up to the south carolina coast. some of that moisture may be coming up our way by monday, memorial day, and that's one of the reasons the rain is in the forecast. it's not in the forecast during the day tomorrow for most of the region but it's hot. 92 in brie vista and 90 in

landdale. 90 degrees with a chance of a late day storm. don't have the chance for new jersey or delaware tomorrow. we do have the cooler weather because of the sea breeze, atlantic city 78 degrees. then there's the not quite as hot day on sunday. a little bit more of an onshore wind. monday the coolest, cloudiest day with the best chance of rain. tuesday we're back to the warmth and then next week you can see that we're more in the 70s. this is where the average temperatures are for this time of the year. so the heat that we're getting maybe even the first heat wave that's not going to last into next week. >> we can handle it. thank you. philadelphia sports talk radio host was one of eight people induktd into the philadelphia jewish sports hail of fame tonight.

eagles coach doug peterson has said sam brad ford is his guy but his coordinators say it's a competition. offensive coordinator says it is not set in stone. the receiver jordan matthews has been working with bradford and the practices are slower and they correct things on field.
