shore and in the city. taking a live look at cape may. it's quiet out there right now. the jersey shore has been packed with people soaking up the sun this holiday weekend. changes are heading our way. just take a look at the nbc 10 first alert radar. it shows the rain that could disrupt your holiday weekend. good evening. let's go straight to meteorologist karen thomas for a look at your neighborhood forecast. we could see the wet weather as early as tomorrow. >> that's right. we'll have the clouds moving in before any rain tomorrow. tonight we are dry. we just have a few clouds around in philadelphia. temperatures on the warm side. they will be dipping down into the upper 60s. we're keeping a close eye on what is tropical storm bonnie down here in the carolinas. this system will be pushing the low to the south of us. the eye of the storm will stay far away from us. the cloud shield and areas of showers in front of it will move

traffic alerts on your smart phone or tablet. a deadly hit and run in atlantic county. a pedestrian was killed after being struck by a car in folsom. we checked but police do not have a description of the car that hit the victim and drove off. also new, two dogs tied up and set on fire. tonight police in chester say they are investigating a deadly case of animal cruelty. crews responded to a 911 call and found the animals inside a tote bag in an alley off west 6th street. we heard a big bang. >> everybody screaming and running to the people. >> witnesses describing the chaos that unfolded at family picnic this afternoon.

a large tree branch came crashing down on a father and son. tonight they are being treated at the hospital. >> reporter: they will be spending the night here at the hospital. at last check his son was still being evaluated by doctors. if his son is admitted, he'll be transferred. we know that both of them are stable. cell phone video taken at the state park captured first responders revving up chain saws to remove tree limbs for a man pinned underneath. >> everybody screaming. >> reporter: park rangers say it was large free limb that fell 50 feet. family was enjoying a picnic undernea underneath. witnesses say they heard cracking. the father picked up his 4-year-old son but could not get away in time when the heavy

branch came tumbling down. >> one guy tried to help. he took the tree off the guy. he told the man stay still. >> reporter: the father and his 4-year-old son was taken to the hospital while the area was secured. >> we'll inspect all the trees in the area. >> reporter: trees in the park are usually surveyed after storms. upon initial inspection, the limbs seemed healthy and there was no forewarning. >> is this a like freak accident in. >> trees fall all the time. we do the best in our heavy days areas that we inspect all the trees as much as we can. >> reporter: for those who witnessed everything unfold especially since the park was packed with families. >> it was fast. it was fast. >> the area will be closed for the rest of the weekend until park rangers can determine that nobody else in danger.

a 3-year-old girl is in the hospital after police say she fell from a second story window in germantown. nbc 10 on the scene of the 500 block of manheim streheet. she fractured her skull when she fell. her father said he found a hole in the window screen. police are looking into the girl's twin sister may have fallen from the window. as democratic candidates battle it out for california, bernie sanders has a warning for hillary clinton. what he says she needs to do when it comes to picking a running mate. a memorial salute. we'll take you to the unique tribute to all those who serve. the phillys back in mia with

democratic presidential candidate bernie sanders has a strong warning for hillary clinton about her potential pick for a running mate. he's urging clinton to pick a hard line progressive should he win the nomination. sanders says doing so will be critical to winning over his supporters going into the general election. the senator made the comment in an interview that will air tomorrow morning on nbc's "meet the press."

this memorial day weekend people are paying tribute to those who gave their lives for our country. >> army corporal james castilla. >> loved ones and veterans paid tribute to camden county service members who died on the battlefield. names were read of more than 100 veterans killed in vietnam, iraq and afghanistan. these volunteers this montgomery county spent their saturday placing american flags on the graves of veterans. members of the vfw placed dozens of flags throughout the cemetery. they say the tradition is reminder of the true meaning of memorial day. tonight, thousands gathered under the stars at the man music center as the philly pops

flood waters that have closed roads, damaged homes and forced many to evacuate. two people remain missing. most areas received more than 16 inches of rain since the storm started thursday. meteorologist karen thomas is here with more on changes coming our way in forecast. >> that's some severe weather in texas and the flooding will continue there. for us we're dry tonight. temperatures across the region mainly in the 70s. it's warmer up here in trenton. 77 in allentown. overnight lows dipping down to the upper 60s. we'll be dry tonight. we're looking for heavier cloud cover tomorrow. we're dry right now but keeping a close eye on tropical storm bonnie which is coming ashore to south carolina. it's a tropical storm, started as a depression and late this afternoon it turned into a tropical storm. as it does make its way further north, it's expected to cut off the coast. however, clouds will be pushing up to the north because of that

system and some of the rain associated with it. right now we're just keeping a track here. the winds sustained at about 45 miles an hour. it does have a track. as it moves up the coast, which will take off for tomorrow, we can watch the center of the low sort of just cut right off the coast. this is from the national hurricane center. as it does, that's the good news. however, we'll have sort of far reaching clouds and rain that are expected to come in tomorrow afternoon, sunday night into monday, and yes, bringing the potential on memorial day for on and off showers, possibly even heavy thunderstorm. future cast will put it into motion by 10:00 p.m. tomorrow night. this has heavy rain moving into philadelphia just about everywhere except the shoreline. monday morning still some spot ty showers. as we move on through memorial
