tropical depression bonnie, the tropical moisture headed our way. we have a cold front triggering thunderstorms through overnight hours. live shot over fill, itphiladel it's foggy. if you look at the bottom of your screen, you will see your local neighborhood forecast. overnight, steady until 7:00 a.m. it looks like most of us will get one to two inches of rainfall in total. isolated two inches of rain throughout the region. futurecast puts this into motion. the showers are starting to clear on out by early tomorrow morning. however, i do think we will see isolated showers later tomorrow. of course, coming up in my full forecast, we will discuss that. i do have your ten-day as well. >> thanks. the tropical system moving up the coast is putting a damper on the end of the weekend. families squeezed every last moment out of the beach before the rain moved in.

drew smith reports where the wet weather has caused several changes in plans. >> reporter: several shore times have canceled parades, including avalon. others are moving the ceremonies inside. foot traffic has slowed. some families choosing to travel home instead of being out here for a wet beach tomorrow. >> it's foggy outside. i don't like that. >> reporter: hazy conditions stuck around through the afternoon. many jersey shore beachgoers say they still had a great time. >> three good days. we can't complain. every other year it has been rainy and it's depressing. this year was good vibes only. >> reporter: this woman is planning a departure back to the mainland early tomorrow. but in family will stick around. >> we will make it work. rain or shy, they will be at the shore. >> reporter: these ladies went out to collect sea shells.

they weren't pleased when we told them the forecast. not everyone is upset. people brave enough to get in the ocean also aren't afraid of a little bad weather. >> probably come back out tomorrow, honestly. why not? >> reporter: shore businesses were busy again today. they know it will be a challenge tomorrow. we also checked with the power company. they say they're ready in case the downpours turn severe. i'm drew smith, nbc 10 news. two families have been waiting decades for the names of their loved ones to be added to philadelphia's vietnam veterans memorial. both men died while serving but not during combat. as a result, their names were not added to the wall until now. more on what it means to the families. >> reporter: it has been more than a decade since a name was added to the memorial. now after 50 years, two families believe the service their loved one is finally being recognized.

etched in stone at philadelphia's vietnam memorial, you will find the names of francis corcoran and george wilson. >> privilege and honored. very long time coming. >> reporter: their families got to see their names next to others who served so bravely. >> don't know why it didn't happen when it should have earlier. >> reporter: both men died in 1967 while in service during the vietnam war just not on the battlefield. wilson was an analyst who had a previous tour of duty. corcoran had served in korea. he endured a similar circumstance. >> he had his year up in vietnam. he was ready to come home. he took ill. he died at walter reed. >> it wasn't until 2013 the department of defense allowed them to be included in the national vietnam veterans

this is cell phone video of his ride moments before he was tossed from the horse. we froze the video before he fell to the ground. paramedics rushed the teenager to the hospital where he died from his injuries. runners hit the streets of northeast philadelphia in a show of support for a police officer who was hurt in a hit and run last week. a group of about two dozen runners gathered at 3:00. it's the same time and same intersection where a car struck officer gary miller during his jog last week. the group made the nearly four-mile run to an area near the hospital where officer miller's wife met them. >> we're all runners. we sweat together. our muscles burn together. we're all -- we're a strong community. >> he is in a lot of pain. thank god, i still have him. >> philadelphia police recovered the car involved but no one has

been arrested. help for a montgomery ghigh school band whose instruments were damaged. they are loaning instruments to the high school's band. north penn will be able to march in the memborial day parade tomorrow. it suffered water and smoke damage after a student set a fire in the band storage area last tuesday. that student has been arrested and charged with multiple felonies. a scare at an ohio zoo. a boy falls into the den of an adult male gorilla. the tough decision zoo workers made to save the young boy. denied a diploma. why a high school class president was kept out of graduation ceremonies. i'm tracking showers overnight downpours.

an arizona high school senior has been denied a chance to walk at graduation, even though he kept up with his classes while battling cancer. the senior class president was diagnosed with leukemia two years ago. he spent most of his junior year in and out of the doctor's office. he fell a couple of credits short. the school district denied him his cap and gown.

bike advocates are pushing for new technology to monitor drivers. it comes as we enter biking season. george spencer uncovered new patterns in bike crashes and drivers' concerns about cameras and radar tracking their speed.

>> reporter: the sights and sounds of cycling. increasingly familiar to everyone who works, visits or lives in philadelphia. philly has the highest percentage of residents biking to work of any major city. but with new wheels on city roads, new concerns. >> it was saturday morning. police came to my door. >> reporter: this woman still feels the moment her life changed last month. her only son, a drexel grad, a philly bike computer, killed on his bike by a hit and run driver. he is one of 11 fatalities since the beginning of 2015. >> last item in the house and i'm just roaring in tears. it's my son that's gone. i'm never going to see him again. >> reporter: the investigators got records for every philly bike crash since 2014, more than

1,500 of them. we discovered crashes spread across the city, most happening in the afternoon and evening hours. we found a clear pattern. starting in june, crashes spiked to a monthly average of more than 80, nearly three a day. that continues through summer, peaking in september, with an average of 95 crashes. we found location patterns, too. broad street shows up more often than any other street. 76 crashes in just 2 1/2 years of reports. spruce street was a close second, 63 crashes, even with its painted bike lane. sarah, head of the bicycle coalition of greater philadelphia, is now focused on one leading cause, especially for the crashes that turn deadly. >> speeding is what causes a third of the fatalities in philadelphia. >> speeding is a real issue? >> one of the most important issues. >> speed is a factor in every

crash, every crash we investigate, whether auto versus auto, auto versus bike. >> this captain, the head of philly pd's accident investigations, agrees that speeding is one of the most common crash concerns. cycling advocates are pushing pennsylvania legislators on a plan to improve safety by targeting speeding drivers. they want to extend the red light camera program, add photo speed enforcement and allow local police to use radar. >> it's not about safety. it's about the money. >> reporter: this man of the national motorist association insist philly drivers would pay. his group is lobbying against the technology. he believes giving local police speed radar would distract them from more dangerous problems like aggressive driving or tailgating. >> if you give them radar, they

started at 11:30 p.m. through tomorrow. notice how we see a break in those rain showers. still seeing lo ining lol ining. we have a cold front dipping down and a low that will continue to work its way out towards the northeast as we continue to get this going. there's a lot to talk about here. because we still have more rain showers tomorrow afternoon and tomorrow evening. improving by tuesday. then we have showers by the end of the week. we're still seeing showers moving through. we're not done yet. i expect fog tonight. tomorrow morning and tomorrow night into early tuesday morning. estimated rainfall totals for most part, one to two inches. that cold front will be quick. we have cooler temperatures as well and a shift in those wind speeds. extended ten-day outlook, keep in mind this is the average. we're seeing temperatures cooling down by tomorrow. a high mid to upper 70s. then by tuesday, we're seeing partly cloudy skies.

a florida teenager is recovering after a shark bit him on the leg. the 13-year-old was swimming in two feet of water off neptune beach when he was bitten. paramedics rushed the boy to the hospital with cuts to his legs. he is expected to be okay. at least two people are dead after a man opened fire at an auto body shop in houston. it led to a standoff with police and a neighborhood locked down.

police say the shooter barged into the shop this morning and started firing. a customer was killed. several others were hurt, including two police officers. a s.w.a.t. officer killed the suspect after more than an hour of gunfire. the two injured officers are out of the hospital and they are expected to be okay. four others are still hospitalized, including a person police believe may be a second suspect. so far, no word on a motive. i'm ron burke from comcast sports. the phillies needed a win today to avoid being swept. they would dig a hole for themselves early in the series. rizzo with an rbi single. safe at the plate. he represents the first run of the game. chicago jumps on top 1-0 in the first.

and a half inches. it's not the ideal way to start your memorial day monday. for the most part, it was great saturday, today the entire day. the showers didn't get in until later this afternoon. >> thanks. the tropical system moving up the coast is putting a damper on the end of the holiday weekend. families down the jersey shore squeezed every last moment out of the beach today before the rain moved in. drew smith reports with a forecast of wet weather caused several changes in holiday plans. >> reporter: several shore towns have canceled memorial day parapap parades, others are moving inside. out here, foot traffic has slowed. some families choosing to travel home instead of being out here for a wet beach tomorrow. >> it's foggy outside. i don't like that. >> reporter: hazy conditions stuck around through the afternoon. many jersey who beachgoers say they still had a great time.

>> we had three good days. we can't complain. every other year it's been rainy and it's depressing. this year it was good vibes only. >> reporter: this woman is planning a departure back to the mainland early tomorrow. but this man's family will stick around. >> we will make it work. rain or shine, they will be down at the shore. >> reporter: these ladies wey i out to collect sea shells. they weren't pleased when we told them the forecast. not everyone is upset. people brave enough to get in the ocean aren't afraid of a little bad weather. >> probably come back out tomorrow. why not? >> reporter: shore businesses were busy today. they know it will be a challenge tomorrow. we checked with the power companies. they say they are ready in case the downpours turn severe. i'm drew smith, nbc 10 news. here is a live look outside. you can see a layer of fog over philadelphia. looks like a beautiful screen

out there. >> it does look pretty enticing. the deal is that, of course, visibility is hindered. not terrible right now but overnight into tomorrow it will be. it's a roller coaster ride with the ten-day forecast. cooler tomorrow, warmer tuesday. cooler by the end of the week. >> to talk about tomorrow, most of the heavy rain is coming overnight until the morning. will it affect the morning commute? >> yes. we could see isolated pockets of heavier downpours early. localized flooding, that's my biggest concern. of course, when you wake up, a little earlier, we will see the patchy fog. another issue to deal with. tomorrow night into tuesday, more fog. then i promise, by wednesday the pick of the week, wednesday of all days, pick of the week, it's going to be gorgeous. a high pressure will keep sunny skies in place. not that muggy and temperatures comfortable. >> something to look forward to. that's nbc 10 news for now. for all of us here, have a good night and a great memorial day.
