nbc 10 news starts now. >> beaten and left for dead. a 77-year-old man murdered in his home and his body isn't discovered for days. i'm jacqueline london.

>> i'm jim rosenfield. philadelphia police say the attack happened monday morning. but the victim's son didn't find his body until this afternoon. >> next 10's brandon hudson is live at the home in southwest philadelphia. brandon, do police think this was a random attack? >> reporter: jacqueline and jim, police believe the victim was targeted. the suspects got in through the back of this house. they say they broke in through the back window which is next to that door. then killed the 77-year-old homeowner. since our last report, we spoke to friends who described the victim as a great guy. in the hours following the gruesome find made by the victim's son, philadelphia police collected evidence from this murder. the place a 77-year-old man called home on theodore street most of his life now a crime scene. at this time investigators haven't said if they found a weapon. >> a shame, i'm telling you. >> reporter: arthur became friends with the victim years ago from their time at the american legion post.

arthur got a phone call his buddy was killed. when is the last time you saw him? >> friday. he was out for his walk. he came by the house. i was sitting on the porch. we talked. >> reporter: investigators say the suspects broke in through a back window around 1:30 monday morning which woke up neighbors. >> i heard a boom like that and the wall shook. >> reporter: one neighbor called police. we're told officers went to the home, checked the front door but didn't see anything suspicious. it wasn't until the son who had not heard from his dad went to the house 36 hours later that the victim was found dead in the living room. it appears the homeowner died of blunt force trauma to the head. >> clearly somebody knows what's going on out here and needs to do the right thing. >> reporter: you're going to get another look at the house. the screen that was smashed and broken during the break-in. police believe this may actually be the second time this 77-year-old man was attacked. they believe the first one happened on friday. they're not sure yet if the two attacks are related. they're also looking for the

homeowner's van which was -- which may have been stolen. live in elmwood, brandon hudson, nbc 10 news. two people stabbed in bucks county right across from the fire department. skyforce 10 was over the scene on north 5th street in perkasie. both victims were taken to the hospital. there's no word tonight on their condition and police also haven't released any information on suspects or a motive. new at 11:00, police in northeast philadelphia are trying to track a tire slasher after nearly a dozen cars were hit in mayfair. police were called to the 2900 block of tyson avenue. just after 5:00 this morning. that's where they found 11 vehicles with at least 1 tire slashed. we saw several vehicles with the spare tire on. one neighbor we spoke to said it's time to think twice about where to park. >> i might start using my old garage now. i'm not nervous, but i'm more cautious because, like, people's tires are getting slashed. >> police say they have

surveillance video of a male suspect punching a tire. total damage is estimated at around $2,500. a deadly discovery in chester county. someone found a woman's body tied to a cinderblock in a pond. skyforce 10 was above the pond in east coventry township. investigators are trying to find out who the woman was and how she died. they believe she was killed and dumped into the pond. we spoke to one of the men who found the victim yesterday morning. >> we left and i got on with my day and later in the day it kind of hit me, like, this really happened to an area where me and my children just moved to. >> detectives believe the woman was between 25 and 35 years old. they hopephotos of jewelry, clothing and tattoo on her left shoulder will help someone identify her. in decision 2016, donald trump lashed out at the media today for trying to get answers about what happened to the millions of dollars he said he

raised for veterans months ago. >> you're a sleaze. i've watched you on television. you're a real beauty. >> the presumptive republican nominee held a news conference this morning to detail where the money went. trump said he raised $5.6 million for 4 1 different charities at a fund-raiser earlier this year including $1 million of his own money. nbc news confirms nearly a third of the total had only been dispersed in the last week. >> we have raised a tremendous amount of money for the vets and instead of being, like, thank you very much, mr. trump, or trump did a good job, everyone's saying who got it, who got it, who got it and you make me look very bad. >> hillary clinton told msnbc it took the press shaming trump before he made those contributions. clinton will campaign in the garden state tomorrow. she is said to attend an event at rutgers uniform in newark. the democratic front-runner canceled another appearance in new jersey thursday to focus on california.

instead, her husband, former president bill clinton, will campaign on her behalf in union county tomorrow. and as we head into the last round of primaries, clinton leads democratic rival bernie sanders by 11 points. that's according to the latest nbc news survey monkey poll. in a general election matchup with donald trump, clinton leads by just two points. sanders continues to do much better against trump leading him by 12 points. and new pat 11:00, a divide democratic party on full display here in philly. nbc 10 confirmed sanders campaign is planning a rally across from the wells fargo center on the eve of the democratic national convention. tonight reaction from the head of the convention host committee who's urging sanders' supporters to consider the big picture when it comes to disruptions. >> there were disturbances and disruptions at our convention, the only one that's helping is donald trump. >> reporter: convention host committee chair ed rendell has no problem with voices raised in support of sanders during the

party's july convention at the wells fargo center. and tonight, nbc 10 has confirmed the sanders campaign wants to give those supporters a chance to be heard at a rally across from the sports complex in south philly sunday july 24th. rendell did voice concerns in a recent buzzfeed article that sanders' supporters could well be disruptive inside the convention. but tonight, the former governor expressed hopes the good of the party will win out. >> it's my hope that sanders people will tell their delegates and their supporters to be positive, to rally for bernie, to make noise for bernie. but to otherwise do nothing that would help donald trump's electoral chances. >> reporter: and rendell says it's partly trump to blame for the dnc's current $9 million to $10 million fund-raising shortfall. of the $64 million needed to pay for the philly convention. corporations at odds with trump's stance on various issues, vowing not to donate to

the gop, keeping it even steven by leaving the dems out in the cold, too. meantime, cleveland city officials insisted today they're prepared for anything at the republican convention. outlining their security plans, local law enforcement said the emphasis will be on openness, equipping officers with body cameras to record any incidents with an overall focus on community engagement. >> what you won't see is any military-style equipment. you won't see officers in personal protective gear unless the situation dictates. >> and in addition to body cameras for officers, cleveland police will also deploy a so-called video unit with handheld camera to record any incidents. sirius xm satellite radio suspended glenn beck's morning show for at least a week after the conservative host agreed with a guest who made comments that some believe called for the assassination of donald trump. >> who will stand in the way of

donald trump overstepping his constitutional authority as president? if congress won't remove him from office, what patriot will step up and do that? >> that was arthur bradthore making the comments about trump. sirius xm said the comments could be construed as someone advocating harm against trump. a representative for beck has not responded to the controversy. philadelphia is among the growing list of cities whose police agencies are rewarding officer for showing restraint. case in point back in february. officer michael edwards was awarded for his handling of a man who threatened to shoot him in south philly. after several verbal and physical attacks from the suspect, he used his taser, not his gun. more than 40 officers have received similar awards in the last six months. first time in new jersey, a woman with zika gave birth to a baby with birth defects. the baby was born in hackensack today. the mother got zika in another

country. she's reportedly from honduras. the supreme court will not save union workers in their fight over the future of trump taj mahal in atlantic city. justices declined to hear an appeal from workers who say they improperly lost their pension and health benefits when the casino declared bankruptcy. the company says the benfys would have forced the casino to close its doors. lower courts left the cuts in place. the school district of philadelphia is adding two islamic holidays to its calendar. today city leaders announced they will become official holidays and that means students who observe these holidays can get an excused absence until the src approves those days all for all students. a special honor for some students who are doing their part to put an end to bullying in our schools. district attorney seth williams hosted the champions of change celebration tonight. 65 students received trophies and other prizes for their efforts. part of the third annual

as outrageous grows over the gorilla who was killed when a boy fell through the enclosure at the cincinnati zoo, police are looking whether to file charge against the boy's parents for their actions leading up to the incident and not the zoo which is overseen by the u.s. department of agriculture. meanwhile, an animal rights activist is filing a federal complaint of his own against the zoo. >> he believed this enclosure must violate either the requirements for a physical barrier around an enclosure or for a perimeter fence. >> the boy's reportedly doing well tonight. the gorilla exhibit is set to re-open on saturday. a huge gator brings a game of golf to a halt and look at this. just video taken on the golf course in florida's golf coast earl earl this month. or on the gulf coast. some estimate the pep tireptile 15 feet long. gator has reportedly been roaming the course for years. i guess they're used to it.

one employee says he doesn't bother anybody and they don't bother him, either. and gatorsi of course not an unusual sight in florida. >> that gator is so huge it doesn't even look real. >> right? >> here, of course, you don't see gators like that very often at all. take a look at this, though. an animal control officer pulled a two-foot-long alligator from a lake in jackson township, ocean county yesterday. an exotic reptile handler is taking care of the animal. investigators believe someone was keeping it as a pet. but released it into the lake when it got too big. >> oops. well here's an oops. a major mess that's gone viral. garbage covering the beach in wildwood over memorial day weekend. public works crews had the trash cleaned up within hours but not before this video was posted on facebook. wildwood's mayor says visitors are abusing the town's free beaches. >> will you consider charging people to help offset that cost? >> it's a difficult question. i know you have businessowners that don't want it, you have residents that the do want it.

and more like george clooney especially with that hollywood tan he's got going there. >> president obama was saying with his attire, yeah -- >> what a day for all of them. let's go to our george clooney of meteorologists, glenn "hurricane" schwartz. >> what? >> oh. he's not here tonight. >> okay. >> i'm subbing for them. we got well into the 80s during the day today. not quite 99 90 degrees. 74 in philadelphia. 60s in some of the suburbs. nothing on radar close by. had a couple showers in southern delaware earlier. we have some rain in the middle of the country. some of that is headed this way. but that's going to take a good two, three days before that happens. in the meantime we have a gradual cooling trend. not so much because of any rain, but because the wind is going to start coming in out of the east. and so we have 88 degrees today. low to mid 80s tomorrow. mid 70s on thursday and friday should be in the 70s as well. and then the rain returns later

in the week for most of us. as you can see, the forecast, the temperatures going down and the rain chances going up. especially on friday. the p.a. suburbs, tomorrow 81 degrees. lehigh valley, 82. just a slight chance of a shower in some of these places. for example, lehigh valley, pennsylvania suburbs tomorrow. but the chances, of course, are bigger on friday. at the shore, the temperatures are only going to be in the 60s thursday and friday because of that east wind that is definitely going to be with us. so the future swcast as we egothrough the next 24 hours, one of the computer models is predicting some isolated showers at least coming in during the afternoon to at least part of the area. and that's the reason that in my neighborhood forecast, i actually have some showers, for example, in devon and reading, but not allentown and easton. and not newtown because they're farther to the east.

that's what we can tdo with the neighbor ehood weather, fry to pinpoint what we actually think is going to happen. now at the shore, the temperatures are down near 70 degrees because of that east wind. and then here we go, on friday, cold front approaches. and then the showers come in, maybe even some thunderstorms. and then a stronger system comes in on sunday. you'll see that in the ten day. temperatures down on thursday. of course, with the wind, friday down because of the showers. saturday may be the nicest day of the weekend. sunday, showers and thunderstorms. pretty good bet. maybe even some heavier rain. then as we head toward new jersey election day on tuesday, looks like it's going to be dry and on the cooler side. and we'll be right back. you wanna see something intense?

we have some breaking news from north philadelphia tonight. police are on the scene of a shooting involving a police officer. skyforce 10 over the scene. here's what we know. it was an off duty officer apparently who fired at least one shot at a suspect. this happened at broad and tioga avenue. police right now are looking for
