breaking news. right now at 6:00, a first alert. a severe thunderstorm watch is issued for the entire nbc 10 viewing area. take a look at this. heavy rain has already started falling here in montgomery county as a wall of stormy weather moves in. if it has not hit your town yet, it is coming. good evening. i'm denise nakano. the nbc 10 weather team issued this first alert friday to get you ready for the storms and now it's here and every part of our region will be touched by the storms. the rain is starting to fall here in delaware. a live look from our camera at the blue rock stadium in wilmington shows the storm just arriving and the rain is starting to fall here in philadelphia as you can see the

sky getting darker. here is a live look with sites north atop the comcast center in center city. storm force 10 is out live checking on conditions from the roadways. right now storm force is making its way through trenton, and you can see there's some sun in the skies, but the clouds there are darkening. a check farther south, down the shore. here is a live look at cape may where you can see the sky is still a little blue right now, still trying to hang on, but the storm is coming and let's take a look at the first-a, letter weather radar as it moves through. violeta has been keeping an eye on the storm and she's here with more on the timing and when you can expect to see rain where you live. >> we've been tracking the storms all afternoon and the visibility on the live cam has gotten lower and lower through the course of the afternoon. you can see the rain has started in philadelphia and we do have a severe thunderstorm warning that in effect for philadelphia and the surrounding counties that run through 6:15 and that's that

initial box that you see here and we have the second one that popped up while denise was speaking to you and that includes parts of burlington county and down into gloucester county, as well and we'll be taking a closer look at that, of course, in our next segment. here is a look at the heavy rain and rainfall rates at over two inches per hour and enough to cause ponding and you want to be very careful and this is moving out of northern delaware and into part of southern new jersey and up to parts of 295 and the i-95, as well and further north toward chester and seeing heavy rain and that includes media. 476 being impacted by that, as well and that shifted eastward toward philadelphia. the heaviest rain is still just west of the city. so of course, that's something that you'll need to watch out for over the course of the next hour or so. heavy rain extending northward toward warrenton and those of you are seeing the rain is out ahead of this now and that includes the trenton area that

runs through 6:45 p.m. rain is starting to taper toward the lehigh valley and up toward the pocono and that's the area where we're starting to see improving conditions and trenton, 6:35, and vinebridge, 7:23 p.m. we have gotten some storm reports already across parts of lancaster county. coming up, we'll take a closer look at that and we'll take a look at hour by hour what to expect through the rest of the night and your forecast as you head into monday. tens of thousands of concert fans are bracing for the storms in south philadelphia. here's a live look inside lincoln financial field. the stage is set for beyonce. she's set to perform there in just a few hours in front of a sold-out crowd. fans started gathering outside the stadium early this afternoon and nbc 10's lauren mayk talked with some of them about the storm and what are the

conditions like right now? >> reporter: denise, it is raining here now. within the last half hour things have started to pick up and it is a steady rain behind me and it is not a complete downpour. fans are lucky and there is a bit of an overhang here where they can do some tailgating and it is not dampening their spirits today. >> before the concert kicks off, the music is already pumping outside lincoln financial field. it's the night beyonce fans have been waiting for. >> as soon as we were told she was going on tour and she was coming to philly, we were, like, we're going. >> reporter: fans are having to prep for more than just a good time. concert gear includes rain gear. >> she's beyonce. >> reporter: the weather had phillies fans packing it in early, though, why are you leaving? >> it will be thundering and lightning and plus i have work to do, but the weather will be dicey tonight. i feel sorry for the beyonce fans.

>> the chance to see beyonce in person is a big draw for fans. monica and david ortiz drove in from buffalo. >> how are you feeling about the weather tonight? if it rains we're still going to party with beyonce. up brels aren't allowed and ponchos are and fans have other ideas. >> i wore a bathing suit cover up and i figure i'll just let beyonce rain on me. >> rain or shine, if the lightning comes, we'll run for cover, but just wear light clothing and you'll be fine. >> reporter: that severe weather is what we worried about and take a look right behind me right now just as we were running that package, look at what has started to happen. this rain, this wind is really starting to pick up here. people are kind of grabbing things and trying to grab them under cover, but this is what we had been waiting for to come through here. i have an update for you also on the concert from lincoln financial field. they've been sending posts on their social media and one thing

hospital. a go fund me page has been set up to help the family. the city of philadelphia marks a solemn anniversary today. it was three years ago that this building collapsed in center city, killing six people. the building was being demolished at 27 and market and more than a dozen other people were hurt when the rubble toppled into a salvation army thrift shop below. the city is building a memorial at the site. a convicted contractor and subcontractor who took a plea deal are serving time in prison for their roles in the market street collapse. a suspected thief is in the hospital tonight after police say he was greeted by a knife-wielding homeowner in north philadelphia. officers say the suspect tried burglarizing a home at 11th and masters streets early this morning, but the homeowner stabbed him several times. the suspect is in critical condition. police have not yet file good charges. some of the top cyclists in the world took to the streets of

the nbc 10 weather team has issued a first alert. a severe thunderstorm watch is issued for the entire nbc 10 viewing area. heavy rain moved through montgomery county earlier this afternoon, and right now pico officials tell us there are 7900 outages, 6300 of them are in chest eer county. and now a live look at the first alert radar where you can see a line of storms moving through the area. violeta yas will have a timing on the storms in five minutes. now some surveillance videos you just have to see. as cute as this monkey may be he's also a thief. he sneaks into a jewelry store in india and hops up behind the

forecast for your neighborhood in just a few minutes. >> for the sixth consecutive year the eyes of the rugby world were focused on our area today. they played host to the collegiate rugby championships and out of burks county made it all of the way to the semifinal before falling to eventual runner-up ucla. tournament organizers had nothing, but great things to say about this year's championship. >> philadelphia is the home of rugby and it's been a great city here so far. the cal bears took home the national title and it was their fourth straight rugby sevens championship. the pats were the focus of a fun-filled fund-raiser in bucks county today. it was sunday fun day in bensalem with benefits going to the red paw emergency relief team and it helps animals rescued after fires and other emergencies. the highlight of today's event

was without a doubt the puppy kissing booth. now your nbc 10 first alert weather. >> we have a lot of different conditions across the area depending on where you live. up to the lehigh valley where the thunderstorms are east and they're moving through philadelphia with heavy rain and gusty winds, gusting to 32 in philadelphia and we did get a gust of 48 miles per hour and here's our live look outside and you can see the skyline here and that's not the case right now with the heavy rain moving through at the moment. we have severe thunderstorm warning and that now includes philadelphia extending eastbound through 6:45 and that heavy rain moving through the city extending into parts of south jersey. northern delaware and that shifting into salem county where we see the red colors here extending northward into philadelphia where we actually

have lightning strikes as well and that now east of upper darby and seeing very, very heavy rain at this moment and that extends northward toward white marsh including parts of the pennsylvania turnpike and we're seeing heavy rain across bucks montgomery county over the next couple of hours. this line a little more broken down and want quite as linear and that is shifting into millville at 6:30 and winslow 6:50 and approaching egg harbor at about 7:45 p.m. we have some tree damage across lancast lan kacaster county and east of northern delaware and we're waiting to get in on this less humid air mass and still looking stormy for the next couple of hours and especially the i-95 extending eastward and we'll see the line of storms shift toward

the shore and toms river and atlantic city down into cape may and parts of kent and sussex county and delaware and that's where we will continue to see the heavy rain. the severe thunderstorm watch still in effect through 10:00 tonight. once we get toward the midnight hour, conditions will start to produce first and certainly as we get into tomorrow. that will bring us the nice amount of sunshine and the next couple of hours and we'll watch for this heavy rain and not only the gusty winds and want only will it be dryer with more sunshine, and very nice day to get the workweek under way. we do have the chance for some showers and maybe a thunderstorm on your tuesday. overall conditions not looking too bad as we head into a slight cooldown and temperatures into the mid-70s. >> i'm ron burke, coming up in sports ryan howard upset after a fan throws a beer bottle at him

minute. replay shows the fan reached over the railing and interfered with the ball and joseph awarded only a ground-rule double and not to worry, one of the newest phillies and lets joseph walk on home with the three-run blast to right and to 7-0 and the next batter's cameron rough and they go back-to-back over the wall and a solo shot here and the phillies win it 8-1 and they're dancing their way into victory over the brewers and here's the skipper. >> little by little, he's starting to relax a little bit and not get too big and i'm thinking a game like this to run and maintain his composure if you want to look at it that way. what he needs to do is not get big and strong and he needs to sneak up on the ball and be short and quick. >> the phillies welcome in the cubs for a three-game series starting tomorrow and the weather affecting the sporting world and the nascar race at pocono rained out today and he'll make it up tomorrow with
