and the first alert forecast. >> we say good-bye to that line of severe weather that came through the area last evening and as that did sweep through the area, you can see it now well off the coast, leaving clouds out there in the ocean and showers behind it here. we have a few clouds around. we're looking for high pressure moving in today. yes, we are dry, waking up this morning. there's the good news. what we can expect in the future is high pressure. we're looking for sunshine and less humid conditions. we have less humid air moving in. boy, we felt a bit tropical late yesterday as those storms were building and then moving through the area. what we can expect is to move through monday, sunshine and temperatures moving out of the 60s. that's where we are right now up into the mid to upper 80s for our high temperatures. and then, get ready, buzz we've got a midweek cooldown. i'll tell you about that in a little bit. tracy? we are starting with the

vine street expressway around 24th street. no big problems or ongoing construction. all traffic moving along westbound or eastbound on the vine right now. as we typically hold out the door then, no problems getting to the schuylkill or 295. 422, no big problems here either. speeds into the 60s. westbound doing just fine as well. we'll check in with new jersey roads when i come back in the next ten. we're following breaking news from overseas. a school trip ends with 14 dead in turkey. six of theç victims are childr. the school buses returning from a field trip to a national park when it crashed into a car and fell into a canal. 26 others are hurt. count on nbc 10 for updates to this breaking news on air and our nbc 10 app. new from overnight, guests are back in their rooms after a small electrical fire at the embassy swuuites in center city. after about 25 minutes they were

allowed back inside but the elevators were out. some guests tell us they climbed 25 flights to get back to their rooms. this morning, a controversy is building between the catholic church and lawmakers in harrisburg. at issue, a bill designed to help victims of child sex abuse in pennsylvania. nbc 10's matt delucia is live in center city. tell us what the bill is all about, matt. >> reporter: archbishop charles chaput is calling on area catholics to oppose this bill and hopes their voice will help take down this measure. we're talking about the statehouse bill 1947. it passed in the house in harrisburg in april. essentially what this bill does is extend the statute of limitations on claims of sexual abuse. it would allow past victims to file claims up until they're 50 years of age. right now the limit is able 30. it would eliminate the criminal statute of limiting as on future sex abuse claims. >> many don't come forward ever. many don't come forward for decades and decades and decades

and their lives are inalterably changed. they have no statute of limits on the pain that was inflicted on them. i support what was a compromise measure to get some justice for victims of sexual abuse. >> the archdiocese is calling this on attack on the church. archbishop chaput says the church is committed to helping survivors in abuse in healing but calls this destructive legislation in that area, catholics will end up bearing the financial burden. the letter calls on parishioners to con tack their state senator. the bill is expected to be heard in the state senate in the next couple of weeks. live in center city, matt delucia, nbc 10 news. 4:04. 70 degrees outside. today in philadelphia, a federal judge will hear arguments over whether a list of expected

co-conspirators in the bridgegate scandal should be released. a challenge was made claiming his right to due process would be violated. also today, the head of the federal reserve janet yellen will be in philadelphia scheduled to speak at the world affairs council luncheon. yellen's address will likely focus on the government's job report for may which many economic experts found disappointing. economists and investors are looking for any hint from yell than the fed will raise interest rates. the phillies are trying to identify a fan who threw a beer bottle at ryan howard. he just made the final out of the game when he saw the bottle at his feet while walking back to the phils çdugout.

showing them sweeping through the nbc 10 viewing area yesterday. they brought strong winds and rain and left thousands in the dark at one point. utility crews are working to get the last remaining customers without power back online this morning. the strong storms knocked out power lines and knocked down trees. the thunderstorms didn't last very long but the intense wind is what caused most of the damage. a home in morristown, burlington county caught fire after lightning struck there. >> a big boom and she comes and says, mommy, what was that? i look out the back door. i thought maybe one of the tree branches fell on the house. there were flames roaring out the backside of the house. >> in south philadelphia, the skies cleared just in time for a huge crowd to enjoy an outdoor performance by beyonce at lincoln financial field. some people are still waiting for lights to come back. atlantic city electric has more

than 1600 people without power, delmarva has 800 without power. pocono raceway will take another crack at running the nascar sprint cup race. rain and fog postponed it yesterday, it kept cars off the tricky triangle in long pond. better weather is expected today. gates open at 8:00, the race starts at noon. now your nbc 10 first alert neighborhood weather. and good monday morning. i'm meteorologist karen thomas taking a look at your neighborhood forecast. the severe storms moved through quickly yesterday but did bring damage. the highest wind gusts clocked in williamstown, gloucester county, south jersey at 70 miles per hour. that's pretty strong wind gusts. we say good-bye to severe storms. the lined moved quickly overnight offshore. we can see the residual there. we're keeping an eye on tropical storm colin in the gulf. that's about 355 nautical miles

video near houston. the landscape is swamped as far as the eye can see. storms dumped more than a foot of rain in parts of texas over the past two weeks. authorities are blaming the resulting floods for more than a dozen deaths. now yb the latest on 16 deaths at ft. hood, texas, including nine soldiers who were lost in floodwaters during a training exercise. we've learn one of those soldiers is from north jersey and now we're hearing from her mother. army private james was some jersey city, hudson county. private james and eight other soldiers died friday when their vehicle overturned and washed away. her mother said she loved her military brothers and sisters. >> she loved the army. she loved it. she thought of this in high school, she decided this is what

she wanted to do. >> three other soldiers who were hurt in the accident survived. the family of a victim of the market street collapse says they will continue to fight for construction safety reforms. it was three years ago yesterday that this building collapsed in center city killing six people, including ann bryan. her family is urging the public to support sound construction and demolition safety reforms before another tragedy happens. the city has made some changes to the law, including better training for city inspectors because of the collapse. a convicted contractor and subcontractor who took a plea deal are both serving time in prison for their roles in that collapse. the city meantime is building a memorial at the site. the bryan family is one of those who fought it make it happen. her parents say they know their daughter will be looking down on memorial with an approving smile. 4 a 15. now to decision 2016. democrat hillary clinton is on the door step of her party's

presidential nomination. she won the puerto rico primary yesterday. nbc news projects clinton is just 22 delegates shy of clinching the nod. the former secretary of state breezed to victory over senator bernie sanders in puerto rico with two-thirds of the vote count, clinton has 61%, sanders has 39%p (t&háhp &hc% bernie sanders is showing no signs of surrender. over the weekend, he said the democratic national convention in philadelphia next month will be a contested convention. his campaign chief said sanders is confident about winning tomorrow's california primary and of swaying superdelegates to support his nomination bid. new jersey and california are the big prizes tomorrow as six states hold primaries. polls show hillary clinton ahead in new jersey and it's a dead heat between clinton and sanders in california. on the republican side of the presidential race, donald trump is coming under more fire for new comments that some are calling bigoted. on friday, trump referred to a judge's mexican heritage as a

today and enjoy the dry weather. our winds right now mainly out of the west/southwest. 11 miles per hour in wilmington. 10 miles per hour in philadelphia. but boy we had very strong wind gusts last evening when that line of thunderstorms came through the area. the highest wind speed clocked so far, 70 miles per hour for a wind gust. that was in south jersey, as that line of storms moved through. all is calm it morning. just breezy conditions today. 69 degrees right now in philadelphia. we do have clouds around, left from the storm. but the clouds will be clearing out as we move on through our monday morning. temperatures will be on the rise. but for now, we're closing in on 70 degrees in fox chase. 69 degrees in winchester park. you see there, west mount airy, 66, 68 degrees in society hill. as i said, waking up when the sun officially comes up at 5:35. we will be seeing some sunshine, just a few clouds around. we are mostly dry.

there is the line right here, this skirted right off the coast very quickly last night by about midnight. it was off of the jersey shoreline in southern delaware. just a few residual showers. for the most part, that system is gone. we'll take it out further and show you how far reaching that front really is. all the way down here. here's tropical storm colin churning about in the gulf. you can see the cloud line there. thankfully, that system is off of the coast and will remain there. high pressure moving in today. all in all, not a bad monday. as i said, you'll need the sunglasses, especially if you're able to eat your lunch outside today, maybe what we're looking for, 66 degrees right nowç in e pennsylvania burbs. nothing but sun, a few clouds around later on in the day. we are looking for a high temperature in the pennsylvania suburbs today, the 84 degrees. high temperature in philadelphia, close to 87. tracy? >> looks great.
