everyone heard the shooting. good pow, pow, pow, whole lot of that. >> mark's family hit the floor, mom yanked him down hard, dad got on top of him. >> i thought i was shot, he said, no, dad, i'm shot. i said, no, you're not. i opened my arms and he had a hole in his chest. >> paramedics rushed him to the hospital. mom yanked him down at just the right time. the bullet went into his shoulder instead of his heart or spine. he's going to be okay physically, but he's now terrified of his own neighborhood. >> he's a good kid, and he's strong. he's not letting it get him down. he's in high spirits, he just doesn't want to go back in the house. >> chester police aren't saying much about the investigation. mom and dad have been lobbying to move out since they car was shot a while back. it's gotten that dangerous. in chester, i'm tim furlong, nbc10 news.

races. meanwhile, a pizza delivery driver's recovering after he was ambushed, kidnapped, and shot in the head by robbers. today, nbc10 is hearing from the victim's family. >> i wish you good luck and please take care of my family. >> that man's brother survived last night's attack. the police say it happened over just $60 and a cell phone. nbc10's randy gyllenhaal has more on the victim and the search for his attackers. >> the victim's family calls it a miracle. he was shot in the head but still survived. meantime, police are now looking for the two suspects who called in a fake order and then kidnapped the driver. when the pizza order came in last night, this man checked the address and headed out the door. >> like anybody, you take the delivery. >> but his coworkers say this routine delivery turned into a setup, the two suspects ordered him back into the car at

gunpoint. surveillance cameras capture them speeding away with the innocent delivery driver kidnapped in his own car. >> one guy in the back, one guy in the passenger seat. they made him drive off. >> and one says give me all you have. we are here to rob you. >> the victim's brother tells nbc10 the suspects eventually pulled over and demanded crash. he gave them everything he had. >> everything, everything, and they say the money you have is too small for me to let you leave. we have to kill you. >> but the $60 wasn't enough, so the suspects ordered him on the ground. >> lay him he laid down. >> he is now in surgery. his family praying he survives. he recently came to this country from ghana, delivering pizzas to support his wife and young daughter. >> make some money to feed our family, to get a better life. the only thing we are here, to live.

>> police spent the night looking for those two male suspects, both in their mid-20s. they abandoned the driver's car and remain on the run. the pizza shop here tells me this does not happen often, but they call it a dangerous job. they're working with detectives toified those two men. in southwest philly, randy gyllenhaal, nbc10 news. >> new information into nbc10, an arrest has been made in the murder of a 78-year-old handyman found dead in his home last week. police say quintus clark turned himself into police headquarters before 10:00 last night. he's accused of strangling and murdering joseph daley in his home last tuesday. police linked clark to the murder after the 19-year-old made off with daley's work fan. clark is facing several charges including murder, robbery, and other related offenses. >> from our jersey shore bureau, a huge turnout by those hoping to land a job at atlantic city's soon to reopen showboat. more than 1,000 people lined up outside the building before a job fair.

that went up in flames near route 896. remarkably, no one was injured. crews managed to bring it quickly under control. all lanes are back open. no word on what caused the fire. >> from our delaware bureau, the drive home might be slow on the delaware memorial bridge. two westbound lanes right now are shut down until about 8:00 tonight. crews are replacing the wire that connects the bridge deck with the suspension cable. this is part of the emergency repairs that forced the bridge to partially shut down for three days back in april. now to the latest on the corruption trial of chaka fattah. today, his former chief of staff in washington, d.c. was back on the stand. she said it looked back that the fattahs allegedly kept a poers in their garage two years after it was sold to a co-defendant in the case. the co-defendant is accused of bribing the congressman to get an appointment. they testified that the man's daughter was a paid fund r-rais

use overflow rooms if the arena reaches capacity. ali's body will be laid to rest following funeral services and a final trip through the streets of louisville. >> the champ affected everybody. didn't matter what walk of life they were from, and this week, obviously, we're seeing a lot of these folks come and pay their respects. >> an interfaith public memorial will be held on friday. president bill clinton, actor billy crystal and bryant gumbel are among those who will eulogize ali. >> o.j. simpson continues to serve time behind bars. today, we're getting our first look at him in three years. the nevada department of corrections released an updated mugshot of simpson, who is now 68 years old. he's serving up to 33 years for kidnapping, assault, and robbery. the last time we saw simpson was in another mugshot in 2013. he could be paroled as early as next year after completing a mandatory minimum nine years of his sentence.

>> imagine this. a leopard on the loose. zoo visitors in salt lake city got quite a scare today. they had to stay indoors until workers could spot the big cat after it escaped from its enclosure. it was found on zoo grounds and safely sedated. cincinnati zoo's gorilla exhibit opens this morning for the first time since a young boy fell into the enclosure. the exhibit now has a higher renoforced barrier. the zoo said it raised it to 42 inches in addition to adding wood beams and rope netting. the zoo says the exhibit now goes above and beyond standard safety requirements. a response team shot the gorille after the boy fell in. prosecutors announced yesterday the mother will not be charged. >> you may notice security lines at airports are moving faster and the tsa says there's a reason for that. the tsa administrator told congress today it's because the government hired more people and they switched management. during the busy memorial day

weekend, nearly all passengers waited less than 30 minutes in standard security lines. he said the agency is also using more canines and improving communications between airports and airlines to cut down on those lengthy lines. >> and there may be brief dela s s at the airport due to these showers and storms moving through now, but they're moving through quickly. there's not a whole lot back to the west. and so as we go through the next couple of hours, we're going to see a lot of improvement. there's the one cell that's moved through philadelphia right now, at least most of it, and the heaviest of the rain now has come across the river, even just east of cherry hill. the heaviest of all of this, as you can see, cherry hill still getting some heavy rain, but haddonfield, you're really getting slammed with this thing now. where is it going to be going?

seven-day forecast scrolling at the bottom of the screen all the time. we have more showers coming in during the day tomorrow. everything dies down tonight. and then upper air disturbance we have been talking about, very cold air high up in the atmosphere, comes in. watch what happens as we go through wednesday morning. not so much during the morning rush as let's say late morning, and we're talking about potential thunderstorms moving through the area. that's 10:30 in the morning, and there we are. it races through. again, it's not going to last that long, but we do expect to see some showers and thunderstorms tomorrow and a lot of wind, and a lot of cooler weather. it is definitely going to be cooling down. we're in the 80s today before the shower came. high of only 72 tomorrow. 76 degrees on thursday. so that is a cool change. and the wind, sustained wind of 20 to 25 miles per hour during the day tomorrow.

>> glenn "hurricane" schwartz is here to show us where those showers are headed. glenn. >> well, one of the showers is headed right through philadelphia, and it's already passed and we're already seeing some sunshine in parts of the area. everything is moving very quickly west to east. wilmington is halfway to the shore already. and we continue to see some pretty heavy rain, but it is, again, has moved across the delaware river. now it's even east of 295. it's moved past norristown, right into tabernacle and pemberton now. you're going to get hive rain, but it's not going to last long. we have one shower move through allentown, and now it's headed right into richland, right over coopers brg right now. it's a small one, but they're all fast moving. so it's not going to last long. the showers knocking the temperature down. 65 degrees, northern delaware.

she says her life couldn't be much better. >> we're blessed that we can have family barbecues and play with the kids and we can baby sit with the kids. >> but her refund from her health insurance company is giving her grief. >> i'm stressed constantly, and i just don't want them to get away with it. >> she tells us for years she allowed united health care to automat clack debit her account to pay her premium. she said she cancelled her coverage with the company in march and switched to a new provider, but in april, they continued to charge her account, taking out $246. >> it might not be a lot of money to a lot of people, but it's a lot of money to me. >> for weeks, she called the company for a refund, but tells us each time the customer service rep repeated what she already heard. >> so sorry. i apologize. but i will put you in for a refund. i said, wait, wait.

but the farther south we go, the lower the chances for any of those showers and storms, dover, rehoboth beach, don't have it at all. you can see the seven-day forecast at the bottom of the screen at any time, not just for philadelphia, and you don't to wait until the end. there's the thunderstorms tomorrow. again, it could be very brief. then thursday is dry, cool. 50s in philadelphia. 40s in some of the suburbs. friday, gorgeous day. saturday, most of the day looks dry. then we get late day or nighttime thunderstorms. they may move through quickly too, and then it's really windy on sunday and monday. sunday is kind of warm and then it cools back down just for a day before we warm back up next tuesday and wednesday. >> all right, glenn. how about this? get paid to spend your summer in the sun with your toes in the sand. that's the help wanted and posted at the jersey shore. they're struggling to find life

if you hit the beach in atlantic city these days, you might notice fewer lifeguards. >> the resort is dealing with a li lifeguard shortage, staffing levels the lowest they have been in more than 70 years. ted greenberg is live in a.c. with what the beach patrol is doing to bring in new blood. >> for josephine, a job of watching the water in atlantic city is a family tradition. >> dad was a lifeguard here, so i want to try out and continue the legacy. >> she is training for a try-out

test this weekend that she hopes will land her a spot on a.c.'s understaffed beach patrol. >> we're looking to replenish the ranks. >> ranks down by about 30 lifeguards since last year due to retirement and some even choosing not to return because of concerns about atlantic city's financial crisis. that's left the beach patrol with its lowest staffing level since the 1940s. and at times, fewer eyes on the surf. >> what we do is stretch out where we used to have two guards, will be one and we have a lot more communication. >> it will be just as safe as normal. >> the hiring test sunday will be the resort's first in three years. the pay starts at about $100 a day. former beach haven life guard matt is hoping to snag one of the open spots in atlantic city. >> one of the oldest patrols on the east coast. see if i can have it. i'm 35 years old, so see if i can still do it. >> if you can swim and run and love the beach, we would love to have you. >> that was ted greenberg reporting. speaking of which, this is what
