pra pratt for answers. they tell me they've learned in the wake of leo's birth the mother may have been suffering from depression. >> we found out it was like postpartum. >> i couldn't imagine her doing this. i can't. >> reporter: our sister station in miami is working this story in florida as well. our colleagues there just spoke to a man who may have been the last person to talk to the mother before she allegedly killed her children. a reporter broke the news to the man that the two kids he'd recently seen are now dead. >> reporter: the police found both children dead here last night and according to police she admitted to mother smothering them to death with a bed sheet. >> oh, god. oh, god. >> that neighbor says the mother told him she was stressed out because her relatives in florida

would only let her stay there until friday and she didn't have any money to get back to philadelphia. as i mentioned in the piece a moment ago the family in philadelphia told me that the mom may have been suffering from postpartum depression. it's a condition that's more common than you may realize. up to one in seven women suffers from postpartum depression. it can appear days or months after the baby is born and can last for many months. it's not a condition that goes away on its own and mothers should seek treatment as soon as possible. we've posted more information on our website. right now police say the man who fired a shot on i-95 during rush hour is off the streets. police led the 33-year-old out of state police baracks a short time ago. he's accused of firing the shot at another driver near the bridge tuesday morning. gilbert claims the shooting was accidental. no word on what charges he'll face. we were over this bus

accident in philadelphia's west neighborhood. the police say the bus was traveling north on broad and hit a parked car. seven kids went to the hospital. there were no serious injuries. no word on what caused the crash either. it's official, president barack obama has endorsed hillary clinton for president. he did so in a three minute web video released earlier today. jim rosenfield is here with more. >> reporter: on the oonl video the president calls on democrats to unify behind his former secretary of state's bid for president and build on the progress of his eight years in the white house. >> i don't think there's ever been someone so qualified to hold this office. she's got the courage, the compassion and the heart to get the job done and i say that as somebody who had to debate her more than 20 times. >> the white house taped that endorsement tuesday.

now. i brought a jacket. i'm going to need it later tonight. you probably too because we have clear skies even with sunshine it's only into the low 70s in the lehigh valley for example. 76 in philadelphia. that's as warm as it's gotten all day today. we have clear skies so as soon as the sun goes down that temperature is going down. in philadelphia by 10:00 we're 66 and 6:00 a.m. 55 degrees. it's one of those nights if the winds die down there's going to be a big difference between the city and suburbs. that's why we have the neighborhood weather. 61 degrees by 10:00 and 48 by 6:00 a.m. in the lehigh valley 60 by 10:00 and 45 degrees by tomorrow morning when you get up. it's going to warm up quickly but parts of new jersey in the 40s as well. we'll talk about the warming trend as we go into the weekend but also some more strong storms

after pleading guilty to murder. the boy shot and killed the man who was walking his dog last spring. smith will face trial for the murder in march of next year. a 92-year-old man who served in world war ii and known in the neighborhood as b.b. died in a fire this morning. he was trapped in his house after the fire started. it was his neighbors who saw the fire and called for help. >> he was praying. i said oh my gosh and i started screaming and that's when i got the phone and dialed 911. >> it's not clear if he had working smoke detectors inside his home so today firefighters spent the day handing out the life saving devices in the neighborhood. what are you willing to do to make your community safer? police in one say have a unique request, what they're asking people to put inside their homes, plus what's the 4th

families in pottstown will have to find somewhere else to celebrate this independence day. the annual fireworks fun and parade is cancelled this year. the event has been organized by a nonprofit group for the past 30 years but over the last few weeks they've been warning that next to nothing has been raised for the event. >> without having volunteers and social media everybody is saying we're blaming everybody but the reality is if you're not coming off of social media and coming out these things don't happen. >> some in the town say it's okay if the festivities wind a ye wind a year off. is the convenience worth the cost. >> the supporters are pushing for a new train line that would

intersections. now they're asking homeowners to pitch in. >> it's let likely that somebody will try to break into your home. >> reporter: this woman has multiple cameras surrounding her home. she supports the plan but it's not a catchall to solve the increasing crime in the city. >> i don't think it's going to stop them because people are going to be ignorant no matter where you go. somebody can see the camera and say i don't care there's a camera there. >> reporter: nbc 10 news. a man is in custody accused of hitting and injuring a septa officer last month. the man is charged with driving under the influence, leaving the scene of a crash and driving without a license. you may remember a little bit more than two weeks ago the officer was jogging when he was hit. he's had to undergo several surgeries. he's still in the hospital but the good news is that his condition is improving.

an exclusive video shows a crash involving a police officer overnight. the driver throws his car into reverse and then hits the police cruiser and speeds away. this happened during a traffic stop. there's the vehicle backing up and then pulling away off the right side of your screen. this happened in the city's graduate hospital neighborhood. the officers weren't hurt. the police are still looking for that driver. drug task force agents busted a drug ring in burks county. the investigation started in 2014 and it involved tapping the suspects cell phones and going under cover to purchase drugs. police arrested 16 people for allegedly dealing heroine and cocaine and marijuana throughout the country. 26 customers were arrested. pennsylvania lawmakers focus on a new budget that's due later this month some ledgislators ar

trying to learn from the past. today representatives talked about how they were impacted by last year's budget impass. it was part of the house human services committee meeting. the united way was there. they were forced to make a lot of cuts. >> we saw people being laid off and people having their hours cut back and that happened on a pretty significant level across the state. >> during that time more than 70 united way employees were working without pay and now the time is ticking until the next budget, that one is due in 21 days. hundreds of new jobs are coming to the lehigh valley after fedex breaks ground at the largest ground termal in the u.s. it will employ about 600 people an process up to 75,000 packages per hour. construction gets under way later this month and is expected to be finished by september

2018. a new walking and biking trail will help build bridges between some neighborhoods. the trail will be just over one mile starting in point park and running along the same spot as the railroad. when it's finished next year it will connect the neighborhoods. water meters are going to be replaced in the city of wilmington. the city is up grading all residential water meters. this is a picture of the old and new meters. installation is free and takes about 30 minutes. residents will get a letter in the mail letting them know when instalers will be in their neighborhood. the current meters are no longer covered by the manufacture's warranty and are beginning to break. it's a case that has sparked outrage across the country, the student from stanford convicted of sex assault sentenced to just six months in prison. now we're learning he may serve even less time.

serve half of his sentence if he keeps a clean record. he was convicted of attacking the unconscious woman he met at a party in january of last year. documents show turner lied to the court about his drug use and drinking. prosecutors had asked turner to be sentenced to six years in prison. carrying a concealed weapon in public is illegal says a federal appeals court. the court in california issued the ruling today. law enforcement can require applicants's to show a need for a conceal carry permit. t she has had to overcome so much but a student wasn't going to let that stop her from pursuing her dreams. she's one of the city's remarkable grads and we're going to meet her next. sunny and warm weather and

okay. temperatures today in the 70s throughout the area. a little cool for this time of year especially with sunshine and we have some places have gotten close to 80 degrees but not quite. 46 in metford. 74 in hamilton and 70 in princeton. all that sunshine and only 70 degrees. the official high today of philadelphia was 77 and tomorrow about 79 and then saturday we really jump up and then sunday is still warm but a very windy day. we're going to be seeing and talking about weekend thunderstorms. but don't let that ruin all your plans here because we're going to have a lot of sunshine and warm temperatures over the weekend but we've got that one exception. and that one exception could be a noisy one. it's not going to happen saturday morning.
