nbc 10 news starts now. i just couldn't imagine her doing it. >> a mother charged with killing her two kids. what she told police about a family trip that started in northeast philadelphia and ended with her children dead in florida. and developing this morning, an all-out manhunt for a teenager who police say shot a sheriff's deputy and another man in ohio. we'll explain what led up to the violence and have an update on the search for the suspect. plus, fire forces several people from their homes in philadelphia. how crews got control of the blaze as flames jumped from house to house. good morning, this is "nbc

10 news today." i'm katy zachry. it is just 4:00 a.m. on your friday. let's get right to meteorologist sheena parveen with the first alert neighborhood forecast. good morning, sheena. >> happy friday, katy. friday is finally here. temperatures this morning are cool once againlç maybe not as chilly as yesterday morning but we're still looking at the low 60s in philadelphia, mid-50s, pennsylvania suburbs, some of our south jersey neighborhoods are coming in in about the low 50s, some spots upper 40s like piney hollow here. 54 in voorhees, 51 mullica hill. 58 florence, cinnaminson, hamilton coming in at 58 degrees right now. your seven-day forecast is always at the bottom of the screen for you. as we go through the morning, plenty of sunshine, nice through the morning hours. by 8:00 a.m., mid-50s to low 60s through the philadelphia area and plenty of sunshine, not as windy as yesterday either. by lunch time temperatures should be close to 70 degrees

across the board and through the afternoon we'll be warmer than yesterday. many areas right near 80 degrees for a high temperature. we'll take a look at the rest of today's forecast for the rest of the neighborhoods and also thunderstorms for part of your weekend. the timing of that, coming up. let's get a check of the roadways with jessica boyington. >> the vine street expressway is open. no construction here around 24th street. you can see all traffic moving along whether you're headed westbound or eastbound. full access to the schuylkill and to 95. there's also some construction. watch out for that on martin luther king drive between ben franklin parkway and sweet briar drive. at least another hour for that. katy? 4:02. 64 degrees outside our studios in bala cynwyd. new from overnight, officials say three people are lucky to be alive. the flames broke out on church

street late last night. one person had to jump out of a window to escape the fire. all three people are at local hospitals this morning. the fire marshal is now looking into the cause. now to a row home fire in philadelphia's nicetown section. authorities say the fire began in one home on north 15th street just after 2:30 this morning. then it spread to the porches of nearby homes. four people total were forced out of their homes. fortunately, though, no one was hurt in that blaze. happening today, a woman from northeast philadelphia is scheduled in court after police say she confessed to taking her two children to florida and killing them. nbc 10's matt delucia is live in the digital operations center. matt, this is an incredibly tough story for a lot of people to hear. what do we know about the case? >> sophia hines is charged with two counts of premeditated murder. wednesday afternoon police in

miramar, florida, responded to a 911 call and found a 7-month-old and a 3-year-old, they were unconscious. investigators say hines admitted to holding a sheet over the mouths of both children, suffocating them. hines is from our area. she lives in the frankford area of philadelphia. we spoke to the father of the two young boys. he and the rest of his family have plenty of questions. >> she killed the kids. killed the kids? i didn't believe it. sophia killed ariel? no way. that wasn't possible. that didn't register. >> now, some family members believe that hines suffered from postpartum depression and she may have stopped taking her medication. she is due in court today. the boy's father, you just heard from, says he is trying to get down to florida as quickly as possible. live in the digital operations center, i'm matt delucia, nbc 10 news.ç

thank you. we are following a developing story from ohio. police are searching for this man who they believe shot two people, including a sheriff's deputy. neighbors are being told to stay in their homes this morning while police search for the 19-year-old suspect. officials say the female deputy was responding to a report at a domestic situation at an apartment complex in deerfield township. she was conscious and alert when she was taken to the hospital. we just learned she's been released mondays ago. the other victim is expected to recover. this morning, walkers and runners on a popular philadelphia trail is worried for their safety after a woman was attacked. it happened on the schuylkill river trail yesterday afternoon. witnesses told police the attacker followed a 24-year-old woman who was on the trail, the attacker followed her up the steps to walnut street. he said you don't know anything before he cut the woman across

the forehead with a sharp object. the woman says she didn't know who attacked her. police do believe this was random. >> no one deserves to be in this type of situation ever. we have to be really cautious. >> it's just terrible. broad daylight. everyone is out here trying to enjoy the beautiful day and exercise. >> this attack follows several incidents on the trail including a sex assault and indecent exposure. that forced kenyatta johnson to form a watch group. >> this incident is another painful reminder that we must step up efforts to make the trial safe and will sad very kate for additional officers to patrol at all hours of the day. passengers on a bus tell police they were terrified

during a trip from philadelphia's chinatown section and new york city. one of those passengers took this picture on saturday night. police pulled over the bus after passengers called for officers to come help them. the driver was arrested and later fired from the bus company. >> the rider described the trip on yelp, her post reads in part, he drove so crazily that three times he nearly drove no a wall or a post and the last time everyone thought we would die because the bus nearly tipped over. this is not the first time nbc 10 has reported trouble with this specific bus company. last summer, focus travel fired a driver after a video you're seeing here surfaced of him apparently texting while driving on the new jersey turnpike. a fund raiser is scheduled to help the family of a police officer in delaware county. a benefit dinner and raffle for haverford township williams

albertis suffered a symptom as ailment while playing in a police firefighter ice hockey game in april. he later died at the hospital. he worked in haverford for five years following service in philadelphia. the husband and father of three was just 39 years old. it appears the philadelphia archdiocese is taking aim at catholic state lawmakers who support legislation giving alleged sex abuse victims more time to sue. those lawmakers say they've been publicly shamed during church masses, called out in church bulletins and uninvited to parish events. a spokespersonç for the archdiocese say priests were simply sharing public knowledge. the church says changing the statute of limiting as would be unfair and financially crippling to its schools and parishes. now your nbc 10 first alert neighborhood weather with meteorologist sheena parveen.

the mid-70s. newtown, sunny and 70. byberry coming in around 80 this afternoon. haddonfield, 77 degrees, trenton 78. if you're along the shore today, 77 degrees galloway township, 79iv79 avalon. here's future weather. we'll stay nice and dry as we go through the afternoon. that warm air mass is going to stay in place. no rain in the forecast today. but tomorrow is a different story. mostly tomorrow afternoon. by the middle of the day tomorrow, we'll see the clouds increasing and through the afternoon we have showers and thunderstorms that will move in by about i would say, between 4:00 and 6:00 p.m. through the philadelphia area, points north and west all the way to the shore. we expect some of the storms to be strong to severe potentially and by tomorrow evening, we'll see that all winding down. the severe storm threat is all the county shaded in yellow. most of new jersey,

i want those of you who have been with me from the beginning of this incredible journey to be the first to know i'm with her. >> president obama officially endorsed hillary clinton for president yesterday. the president said he doesn't think there's ever been someone so qualified to hold the office. now a possible returning mate for hillary clinton, massachusetts senator elizabeth warren. she endorsed the presumptive democratic nominee last night. >> i am ready to get in this fight and work my heart out for hillary clinton to become the next president of the united states and to make sure that donald trump never gets any place close to the white house.

>> warren is one of the leading progressives in the democratic party. senator bernie sanders is not dropping out of the presidential race quite yet. he met with president obama at the white house yesterday. he then hosted a campaign rally in washington. sanders spoke about fixing wealth inequality and the campaign finance system but did not mention hillary clinton. presumptive gop nominee donald trump is trying to jump start fund-raising for the general election. he met with dozens of donors and leading republicans including new jersey governor chris christie. trump is coming after fire after a report that he doesn't pay his bills. a "usa today" analysis uncovered dozens of lawsuits filed by people who claim trump and his businesses failed to pay them in full for their work. some of the lawsuits date back to the 1980s. here's trump's reaction. >> i have a great history of paying my bills on time. you're right. if somebody does a poor job i'm not the quickest pay.

if they do a good job, i pay them quickly. >> trump's campaign say the number of disputes pale in comparison to the amount of business he does. as philadelphia prepares to step into the presidential and national spotlight, city council is making it clear that peaceful protesting is not a crime. the point is to reinforce free speech protections ahead of the democratic national convention at the wells fargo center center next month. they are changing the law that disorderly conduct would move from a criminal to a civil offense. you'd pay a fine instead of going to jail. first amendment rights will be protected. >> policy is very good. what we wanted to ensure that we did was have an explicit provision in there. >> city council may also formally condemn donald trump. members introduced a resolution yesterday saying his values are

at odds with philadelphia values. president obama is peared on "the tonight show" starring jimmy fallon last night. the president had fun while talking about his accomplishments in the white house. >> through the actions of my administration we were able to stimulate the economy and get our country back on track. >>. ♪ oh, yeah ♪ president obama stimulated long-term growth ♪ >> you can't help but join in that laughter. president obama also talked about donald trump. he said while he's not sure if the republicans are happy with their choice, his party is. changing gears now. today, target will be holding a job fair in center city for its new store that opens next month. the retailer says dozens of positions are open for its washington square west store on chestnut street. the job fair runs today and tomorrow from 9:00 to 3:30 at

the sinessta hotel at 18th and market. hundreds of new jobs are coming to the lehigh valley after fedex breaks ground on the largest ground terminal in the country. the terminal in northampton county will employ about 600 people and process up to 75,000 packages an hour. construction gets under way later this month and it's expected to be finished by september of 2018. now your nbc 10 first alert neighborhood weather with meteorologist sheena parveen. >> good friday morning. it is going to be really nice into the week and the weekend is going to be fine. it's kind of a half and half weekend, though, we have some thunderstorms in the forecast. right now if you're going to walk outside any time soon, vineland 49 degrees, atlantic city coming in in the mid-50s. 55, allentown 53. it is a cool start to the morning. not as chilly as yesterday

morning. still cool. we're nice and dry, too on the radar. no rain heading our way until saturday afternoon. don't forget, your seven-day forecast is scrolling at the bottom of the screen. it won't be as windy as yesterday. high temperature, somerton section of philadelphia coming in around 80 degrees, pennsylvania suburbs, areas like malvern 78. lehigh valley looking at 78 degrees in reading. if you're in south jersey, haddon feel, 77 degrees, atlantic city 77. delaware coming in with temperatures close to 80 degrees. 79 in dover. and wilmington with plenty of sunshine. so today we'll be warm and we'll be dry. we're not going to worry about any storms today. that's not until tomorrow. we go into your saturday by the middle of the day, we're warm, we're dry but then you see some thunderstorms rolling through, mostly in the evening hours or afternoon to evening hours. the shore and the delaware beaches should be the last ones to see these storms. so the chances there will be a little bit lower. if you're heading to the shore today, brigantine, 79 degrees

and sunny, tomorrow, low 70s. sunday we're looking at 83 degrees and dry. wildwood today 79 degrees, tomorrow 72 but we'll see those late-day thunderstorm chances, most of the day tomorrow at the shore will be a dry one. by sunday, 83 degrees. if you're heading to cape may, tomorrow, mid-80s with late-day thunderstorms and by sunday we're looking at 84 degrees. by monday if you're still going to be at the shore. temperatures around 77 degrees. for the rest of the area for this weekend, saturday we do expect those thunderstorms. the last place to see them will be the shore. that will be the lowest chance there. temperatures otherwise will be near 90 in philadelphia, tomorrow with afternoon storms, some of which could be strong to severe. lehigh valley 81 degrees. delaware mid-80s. sunday will be a dry day. mostly sunny to partly cloudy. temperatures warm in the mid-80s. zbls thank you f

. >> thank you for that. joining us now is jessica. she's showing us the boulevard. >> we're watching the schuylkill expressway. right around girard avenue. no big problems right now in either direction. and 12-minute drive time eastbound from the blue route into center city. speeds are still into the 60s there as well. we're also watching route 202. no real problems here as you can see right now. an 11-minute drive time from 30 to the schuylkill expressway. headed north or southbound, it pretty much looks the same in both directions. route 73 in voorhees, new jersey. looks great. not a lot of cars out on the roads here. you can barely even see the roadways without a car moving through the area. this is cooper road over in voorhees. mass transit also doing just fine. more updates when i come back. coming up next, a burning look at this video. we'll tell you how a disabled woman was rescued from that inferno seconds before it was too late.

we have new video of a burning transit bus on long island. fire investigators say the driver was transporting a disabled woman home from a therapy session yesterday when he smelled smoke. they say the driver ran to the back of the bus, grabbed the woman out of her wheelchair and carried her to safety just in time before the bus burst into flames. neither the driver nor the woman

were hurt. the fire marshal is looking into the cause. a restaurant owner used a butcher knife to chase off a man with a gun who was trying to rob him. a security camera captured the scene unfold at this restaurant in for knocnorfolk, virginia. the man walked in, pointed the gun at one of the owners. she fought back and took the gun away from him. then her husband comes into the picture with a huge knife and slashes the robber. police later arrested that marne. a former los angeles county district attorney says o.j. simpson had stopped taking arthritis medication before he tried on that infamous glove during his double murder trial. and that may have affected the fit. now, the former d.a. says simpson was told stopping the drug would make his hands swell and his joints stiffen. simpson's attorney johnnie cochran famously told jurors, if it doesn't fit, you must acquit. they did acquit simpson of murdering his wife and her
