right now at 11:00, honoring the greatest. from dignitaries and celebrities to the fans who followed his career, and those who have only heard the stories about the legend. thousands are gathering right now in the streets of louisville, kentucky, to honor the hometown hero who became the world's most famous athlete and humanitarian, muhammad ali. the public is getting their chance to say good-bye to the man known simply as the greatest. a funeral procession is making its way right now through the streets of ali's hometown of louisville, kentucky. this is a live look at the procession making its way toward an arena in louisville where ali

will be remembered in a public service attended by celebrities and dignitaries. the procession began at about 9:30 this morning. the motorcade included 17 cars. among them, a hearse carrying ali's body. it is passing byñ%ç areas significant to ali's life, including his boyhood home. national correspondent jay gray is live in louisville with a preview of this afternoon's memorial service. we don't have a monarchy, but ali is about as close to royalty as we get in america. >> yeah, i think you're absolutely right. and everyone, not only here in our country, but across the world, felt like they had a piece of ali. that's the way he wanted it. it's interesting to see this procession route you talk about. over 20 miles through the place that he called home. a place that people from louisville say he never turned his back on. they're showing to to make sure they show their respect, their gratitude for what this man meant to his hometown.

thousands along that route which will wind through his neighborhood and past his boyhood home. yesterday, the first of the official ceremonies here. there was an actual islamic funeral prayer service. more than 16,000 there. people of all faiths, from all walks of life, and from all over the globe. just drawn to this city and to that event because they wanted to be a part of it. that's the way muhammad ali wanted this. he laid out with his family long before his death how he wanted things to play out, and he wanted to make sure that everyone was included, that everyone had a chance to be a part of his final good-bye. we know that he was a man who enjoyed the crowd, enjoyed the spotlight. it is on him today as he makes the final tour of the city and then we'll hear of course this afternoon from so many who were so important to him during his life, including former president billclipten, comedian billy

>> vai, just imagine for a moment you wake up to hear screaming. you look outside, and you see your neighbor's house on fire. then you take a better look. you see someone trapped on the third floor. what would you do? the neighbors who helped rescue that man tell me they reacted. that the victim was able to jump for his life and they were there to catch him. >> i saw him banging on the front window. awful, awful. >> cara is still shaken by what she saw last night. >> just it went up like a tinder box. >> a neighbor took this cell phone video of the fire, which can be seen shooting through every window in every corner on the lower level of the home. there were three people trapped inside. two on the second floor and one on the third. >> i screamed for my kids to call 911. >> her sons knew there wasn't much time. the men on the second floor jumped to safety. a third was still trapped. >> people see him in the second story windows and you know, he

jumped onto the landing of the roof. >> the brothers sprung into action. >> my brother and i are over there trying to get him out of the second floor. >> joseph's brother steve told the man to jump and he did, landing right into steve's arms, likely saving his life. >> to see him next to a flaming house catching somebody jumping out of the second story window was a treat. >> dennis jefferson knows the men who live here. once he heard how they escaped, he had to see for himself just what they survived. >> one guy has broken legs. the guy who was caught is okay, surprisingly enough. >> all three men were taken to area hospitals. the house, as you can see, is a total loss. it did cause some damage on the house next door. as well. the fire marshal, again, working to determine a cause of this fire, but i can confirm at this hour that they have ruled out arson. reporting live in west deptford, pamela osborne, nbc10 news. >> pam, thank you. meanwhile, police in springfield delaware county said a man set fire to his house

before committing suicide. firefighters arrived at the home at east thompson avenue in granite terrace around 12:30 this morning after putting out the flames, they found the man in a second-floor bedroom. police say he had shot himself. authorities also say there were gallons of accelrnlts throughout the home. >> now to a row home fire in philadelphia's nice town section. the fire started in one home on north 15th street after 2:30 this morning. then it spread to the porches of nearby homes. four people were forced out of their houses. no one was hurt. and philadelphia police say a shoot-out in hunting park left one person dead and another with a gunshot wound through the shoulder. this happed late last night at ninth and luzerne streets. officers found at least a dozen bullet casings at the scene. they believe the two men who lived nearby were shooting at each other following a dispute. >> today, a frankfurt woman is accused of killing her two children is set to appear in

67 in the pennsylvania suburbs. 70 in philadelphia. as we go through the afternoon, king of prussia warming up nicely. right now, king of prussia, 66. by 2:00 p.m., 73. by 5:00 p.m., temperatures topping out at the mid to upper 70s. a warm end to the weekend, even warmer start to the weekend, but we have thunderstorms moving in for part of the weekend, some of which could be pretty strong. we'll take a look at the timing of that and your shore forecast coming up. >> all right, thank you, sheena. >> this morning walkers and runners on a popular philadelphia trail are worried for their safety after a woman there was attacked. this happened on the schuylkill river trail yesterday afternoon. witnesses told police the attacker followed a 24-year-old woman on the trail and then upped his steps to walnut street. according to witnesses, he then said you don't know anything, before he cut the woman across the forehead with a sharp object. the woman said she didn't know who attacked her. police believe this is random.

eastbound from 29 to the schuylkill expressway, an 8-minute trip. the schuylkill expressway a few moments ago had an accident around spring garden east bnld. we were in the red a few moments ago r we're climbing back down. traffic is a little slow, but for the most part, doing okay. maybe about a ten-minute increase there. 24 minutes eastbound from the blue route to the vine street expressway. we have emergency construction in gloucester in new jersey on 76, right around market street. it is headed eastbound. these are the eastbound lanes there, but no big problems or delays by that scene. also an accident to watch for out in abington, old welsch road and old york road. >> thank you, jessica. today on the main line, a fund-raiser is scheduled to help the family of a police officer who died. a benefit dinner and raffle for township officer william alberts is set tonight. he suffered a stomach ailment while playing in a police/firefighter ice hockey game in april. he later died at the hospital.

a bailout. last night on capitol hill, the house passed a rescue package to help ease the island's financial crisis. the bipartisan bill would create a control board to restructure some of puerto rico's $70 billion debt. the measure now heads to the senate, just three weeks before the territory has to make a $2 billion dent payment. women living in areas where zika is spreading should consider delaying pregnancy. that message is coming from the world health organization today. the w.h.o. stopped short of recommending that couples put preginousy on hold, but they said there's no other sure way to avoid the virus' devastating birth defect. health officials in zika affected areas like latin mark and the caribbean already have made similar recommendations. >> a top health official said congress understood to act now to help prevent the spread of zika in the united states. the obama administration has requested nearly $2 billion for the job, but congress hasn't approved the money yet.

domestic incident. she was treated and released. >> one of the greatest hockey players of all time died this morning. gordie howe passed away this morning. the hall of fame player played in more games than anyone in nhl history. he played most of those games with the detroit red wings. howe suffered a serious stroke nearly two years ago. his son mark howe played for the flyers in the 'yalths and '90s. gordie howe was 80. >> a former los angeles county district attorney said o.j. simpson had stopped taking arthritis medication before he tried on the glove in his double murder trial, and that may have affected the fit. the former d.a. says simpson was told stopping the drug would make his hands swell and his joints stiffen. simpson's attorney johnny cochran famously told jurors if it doesn't fit, you must acquit. they did acquit simpson of murdering his wife and her friend. he's now in jail for armed robbery.

share the screen on nbc sunday night. tom brokaw will share a sit-down interview with former late night talk show host david letterman. this is letterman's first in depth tv interview since he retired. it will air on a new installment of on assignment this sunday at 7:00 p.m. here's a sneak peek. >> do you look every night? >> no, i don't. and it's interesting. i thought for sure i would. and then the first day of steven's show, when he went on the air, an energy left me, and i thought like, it's not my problem anymore. >> tom brokaw joins us now to tell us more about his sit-down with david letterman. he joins us from 30 rock in new york. thank you so much for coming on

this morning. >> glad to be here, vai. it wasn't so much of a sit-down as a walk around. walk around the old neighborhood, walk around indianapolis, walk around the indy 500 track. we had a wonderful weekend together, and it was david at his charming, witty best. commenting on growing up and where he grew up and how he grew up, and then going to the track with him. it was, you know, one of those things as a reporter you say how did i get so lucky? >> we'll get to that in a second. i want to start with some of the interesting things he said to say about who he thought should have replaced him. tell us what told you. >> well, it kind of came out almost by accident. i asked him if they asked him who his replacement should be. he said, no, no, i'm not watching very much at all. he said i thought maybe they could have picked a woman, in fact, i don't know why they didn't pick a woman for my job. you know, the fact is you look around.

samantha bee, ms. schumer, all these people who are now women at the top of their game as comedians. and comediccommentators. that's a fair question to ask. >> it is. letterman now spends most of his time at his montana ranch. he said you are the reason that he lives there. tell us about that. >> well, when i would be on his show, and i think i was on as much as anybody probably, and he would be interested in what i was doing. i often talked about montana and the ranch life. one day i got a in montana and he was in wyoming. i said what are you doing in wyoming? you said it's great and i don't see anything here for me. i said come to montana. then i told him to go to helena, montana, turn the car north and drive along what is called the rocky mountain front. he got to the end of the day, called me and he was in love. he found a big, big ranch up there, big wild country, grizzly bears in the wilderness, and

he's become a very good horseman. he bought fishing property as well. he does have that western life, and he is deep into it. >> we notice you spent time with him on the track. we all recognize his love for the indianapolis 500. he also obviously looks a little different now than we remember him when he was on television. did you ask him about that beard? >> yeah, i did ask him about the beard. i mean, everybody notices. i began by saying what's growing in there? what are you nesting? he said, look, i decided i had shaved at least once a day every day from the time i was 20 until i left the show because i was going to be on television every day. i just got tired of it, so i let the beard grow. he said, nobody in my family likes it, my son calls it creepy. and i just say to him, well, that's dad. that's who i am. >> tom caw, certainly great to see you both of you on television. we look forward to seeing you sunday night. thank you so much, tom. >> thank you. thank you, vai.

have been developed and produced and executed by youth, young filmmakers in the region. >> what's the buzz on some of the films being featured? >> well, tonight we kick off the celebration, our opening night, and we'll have norman, which is a movie that comes to us from venezuela. the director will be in the house, and one of the key things is that it really touches on the political landscape and totally opposite perspectives on a political -- at a political level, but how people can still connect. we felt it was very timely based on everything that we're seeing right now politically in our community. >> why is this such a big deal to the latino community? why is this such a big deal? >> it a space. it creates a space for cultural dialogue, so we definitely want to connect with folks throughout the region and share the diversity and the talent that

emerges from latin american countries, but at the same time, we wanton experiences, stories of growth, of resilience, of struggle, that really people can connect and really enjoy. and at the time, see some films that have been showcased in festivals internationally. we're bringing cows wearing sunglasses, our closer tomorrow night. that's the first puerto rican film to screen at the film festival in the netherland. >> i haven't been to a latino festival where there wasn't really great food. i'm keeping my fingers crossed. >> we start tonight, so definitely come and have some fun with us. >> all right. the fifth annual philadelphia latino film festival starts tonight and runs through sunday. nbc10 and tellemundo 62 are prod sponsors of the event. we thank you so much. did i say deright? >> yes. come out, people. have a good time.

move in. i'll show you the timing in a second. for the afternoon, 77 for the high temperature in cutstown. pennsylvania suburbs, 78. philadelphia area, sunny, 80 degrees. and new jersey neighborhoods coming in at 78 in trenton, 77 in haddonfield. and close to the shore, beautiful day today 75 degrees, atlantic city. 79 degrees in avalon, and the sunshine is going to stick around, even in dover. 79 degrees and sunny, and rehoboth beach, 77 degrees. future weather as we go through the day today, warm and dry. the warm air is going to last especially into tomorrow, mid to upper 80s. by the middle of the day tomorrow, there's a chance we could see showers trying to move through. the best chance is in the afternoon. there's 4:00 p.m., showers and storms lining up, possibly through the lehigh valley and across trenton, getting closer to philadelphia by about 6:30. there you see the line of showers continuing to move south, and strong thunderstorms

we expect that's going to extend to the shore and continuing to slide south through 8:00 p.m., south jersey still expecting it later tomorrow evening as well, and then into delaware. we clear up later tomorrow night. with the storms i just showed you, there's a good chance some of these could be strong to severe, meaning damaging winds, lightning, heavy rain, and hail. all the areas shaded in yellow, that's basically almost all of new jersey, northern delaware, all of pennsylvania, in our area, that expect those strong storms. shore forecast as we go through the weekend tomorrow, some late day thunderstorms. if you're in margate, 79 degrees. rehoboth beach, 82. sunday is nice and dry and still warm. around 80 degrees for your shore forecast. your ten-day outlook, today, nice. 80 degrees and dry. tomorrow, afternoon thunderstorms, strong storms, near 90. by sunday, mid 80s and dry. we go into monday, still in the 80s. rain chances come back tuesday and wednesday. but look at that. we have a long ten-day stretch of 80 degree temperatures across
