>> announcer: nbc 10 breaking news. you are looking at breaking news out of south philadelphia tonight. a car fire along i-95 northbound near lincoln financial field. you can see heavy smoke and big flames here right on the side of the road. let's take a live look at the

scene from skyforce10 where just the shoulder is getting by. that is the radar of course, not the live picture from sky force 106789 but we want to go back to those live pictures. there it is. this car fire, again, in the northbound lane. this is near the link. look at the traffic backup on i-95. firefighters are on the scene. here's what we don't know, though, at this point. we don't know if anyone is still in that car. our assignment desk is making phone calls to get more information. we will update you on this situation in south philadelphia. stay with nbc 10 for updates. well, good evening, everyone i'm jim rosenfield. another story we are following, the potential for severe storms tomorrow. first alert radar showing what is headed our way. we have declared a first alert for part of our area in fact. glenn schwartz is tracking the storms heading our way. glen, who is going to see the storms? when will they get here.

>> most areas will see a storm or two during the day. the greatest chance of severe weather is in the north area. specifically mercer county. that's why we've issued a first alert. the timing saturday 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. the greatest threat is for damaging winds similar to what we saw a couple of days ago. the severe storm possibility goes from the jersey shore all the way to detroit. and the best chance like i said in our area is just north and west of philadelphia. but there still is the chance of some severe storms in northern delaware and other parts of new jersey. just a little bit lesser chance at this point. you can see this line of storms approaching chicago. that's some pretty nasty stuff. and that is what we're going to be watching for tomorrow. here's the planner. as we go through philadelphia we are in upper 80s to near nine. p.a. suburbs andly high valley,

that's the symbol for the first alert for later in the afternoon. more on the timing of those storms in a few minutes. an eagles top draft pick accused of sex assault tonight. the investigation centers on wide receiver nelson agholor, tonight we are hearing from two players who were with him at the strip club where the accuser says it happened. brandon hudson is live in the digital operations center with details. >> reporter: at this hour, nelson agholor is not charged with any crimes. investigators want answers on what happened at this gentlemen's club yesterday afternoon. a 27-year-old exotic dancer at cheerleaders says a football player sexually assaulted her. nbc 10 later learned from the eagles that nelson agholor is at the center of this investigation. tonight, ban within, who was with him on thursday issued this statement to nbc sports.

quote, i would like to clarify that he was only present at the establishment for a short period of time and have no knowledge of what happened after i left the establishment. barwin said he was there to meet with his teammates and left around 2:30 p.m. philadelphia police have not said what time the alleged assault occurred. agholor is entering his second year with the eagles. he was in town for off season straining but has since left for florida. the eagles released a statement saying they have been in contact with nelson and the proper authorities in philadelphia. the 23-year-old's attorney says his client is not involved in any ril criminal conduct whatsoever. in the last 30 minutes eagles defensive enfletcher cox released a statement on twitter saying although he was at the establishment with his teammates on thursday he wants to make it clear he had no involvement in the alleged incident. in the digital operations center, brandon hudson, nbc 10 news. a vineland school teacher is under arrest. authorities say he said

communications of a sexual nature to a female student. 35-year-old richard super is charged with endangering the welfare of a child. he was at a teacher at the school when he engaged in inappropriate communicates with a 13-year-old girl. at this point there is no reason to believe there are other victims out there. >> i shall live for other days, i pray the lord the guide my ways. >> friends gathered for a candlelight vigil to remember the lives of two philadelphia children allegedly killed by their own mother earlier this week. investigators say sofia hines held a bed sheet over the mouths of her 7-month-old son and 3-year-old daughter. the three were have itting family in florida. heinz is charged with two counts of premedicated murder. the world said its final good-bye to boxing elite muhammad ali today. as many as 100,000 turned out on the streets of his hometown in louisville, kentucky, to honor his legacy both in and outside

political analysts say warren could help clinton because she is a progressive. on the flip side, warren and clinton are not close and have publicly disagreed on issues in the past. meantime, presumptive republican nominee donald trump got into a twitter fight with warren today. he called her pocahontas regarding her claims of native american ancestry. these comments have some supporters calling on trump to tone it down. here at home, preparations are underway for the democratic national convention right here in philadelphia. taking a live look at the wells fargo center in south philly. the dnc will begin here on july 25th. this evening preps for the security perimeter started. the wells fargo center closed commuter parking lot a. instead, people will be able to park in t off patterson avenue beginning monday through next friday. a philadelphia judge's ruling could address what penn state football coach joe paterno knew and when in the jerry san

dusky case. documents ordered unsealed could shed light on what was told to paterno in the mid '70s '70s. the documents include details of $92 million in settlements penn state paid to those who said they were victims of san dusky. he was convicted of convicting ten boys in 2012. you will be able to fly directly from philly to cuba something that hasn't been happening from any american city for 50 years. philly is one of five cities where the flights will begin. >> reporter: the last time commercial flights flew to cuba airports looked nothing like this. they didn't have tvs with departures on it. coming this fall, there will be three cuban cities on there. she showed us her itinerary of her last trip to cuba.

as a travel agent, it's been an exciting day. >> i think it's fantastic. i think that anyone who wants to see cuba, really cuba, do it now. >> reporter: frontier airlines won permission for eight flights week from philly to cuba. >> they are very welcoming. >> reporter: she took photos from the country that see says is unspoiled. but that may change. some old feelings remain the same from cuban exiles. >> some of the older ones prefer not to have anything to do with the regime or the country itself. >> reporter: it's not as easy as just hopping on plane either. in the visa process, you still have to prove you are meeting people in a cultural, originalous, or educational way. but to some travelers, it's worth it. >> you will see cuba as it was, i don't know, 40 years ago. >> reporter: frontier markets itself as a low-coast airline which it says means more people will be able to access the island country than ever before. drew smith, nbc 10 news.

in dallas, a police officer shot a man outside the airport there today. authorities say the man threw rocks and threatened his exgirlfriend. the moment was captured on cell phone video outside dallas's love field. investigators say a man threw rocks and smashed the windows of a car belonging to the mother of his children. then they say the threats turned to the responding officer. that's when authorities say the officer fired at least nine shots. the man is expected to survive. now an update to a story we brought you last night at 11:00. philadelphia police have arrested the suspect accused of slashing a woman on the schuylkill river trail. 29-year-old isaiah cheeseboro is charged with aggravated assault tonight. witnesses told police it was cheeseboro who followed the woman yesterday afternoon and cut her across the forehead with a sharp object. the woman is okay tonight. on the main line, a community came together to help the family of the police officer who died earlier this year.

philadelphia. firefighters, as you see here, have now put out the flames from this car fire. these are live pictures from northbound near the link. we are told a man was taken to the hospital with second degree burns as a result this car fire and there are still major back ups in the area. consider this the easy pass of public transportation. tonight septa showing us the new way riders can buy tickets. the senta key is a reloadible electronic fare card you will be able to use to take all mass transit except regional rails. the pilot program launches monday morning. 10,000 riders can purchase the cards at 1 different stops. >> anybody can become -- articulating the power of words. nbc 10 at aweden reed high school in south philadelphia this afternoon. students here part of the 2016

african-american history or forical competition. it's all part of an effort to make sure african-american history is included prominently in the school's social studies lessons. big day for the first family today. their first daughter graduated from high school. a beaming president obama looked on as malia collected her di appropriata from her high school in northwest washington. her mom and other relatives also there of course for the big moment. malia is taking a year for herself before heading off to harvard in the fall of 2017. hugs from dad. it was a night to remember in north philadelphia. the community coming together to give a little girl the prom night she deserved. nbc so's keith jones was there. >> reporter: this is the best way to start the story. i want to squash any doubt about how passionate these people are about this little girl. this is the send off party. all this work, all decked out, all ready for a special mile tony. the community, yeah, they are out and excited.

the parents and loved ones anxious for keyiana's arrival, in a beautiful dress w perfect make up, she has waited all her life for this. a smile crosses her face too many times to count. nearby, her mother surveys her daughter's char yotd, complete with balloons, special lights, streamers, each on the air conditioning. keyiana makes her way inside. to cheers from her neighbors, her mother proud. >> this is a milestone in her life. she has been -- she has been counting out a couple of times by the doctors. >> reporter: karen says her daughter has cerebral palsy and she's blind but she never lost hope. thanks to her daughter's nurses at summer den center they put this together. >> thank you, thank you, thank you. >> reporter: key yawna's aunt works there. >> i knew they had a van. i knew it was worth a try. >> reporter: they came through

in a big way on a big day. a prom keyiana will never forget. >> this is nice. i'm glad we got the opportunity to do this. >> we have a great support system. her nurses, they support me 100%. and i'm just ecstatic. >> reporter: reporting in north philadelphia, keith jones, nbc 10 news. >> she looks so beautiful tonight. a night to remember. glen, we're getting ready for some storms to start our weekend off? >> at least for part of the weekend. i'd say at least 90% of the time it's going to be dry. but we have perhaps an hour or less of some rough weather possible. and that's why there is a first alert lehigh valley, burks county, p.a. county, from 3 to 6 p.m., damaging winds the main threat. the storm goes from jersey west of droichlt it is a large area exacted by the storms. in our area the greatest threat is north and west of

philadelphia. there is a chance some of those storms get into northern delaware and other parts of new jersey. we'll update that during the day tomorrow as needed. it's going to be a hot saturday. temperatures getting up near 90 degrees. of course you want to know about those storms and the timing. now, there could be a renegade shower earlier in the day. but that's not going to bother anybody. it's this line of storms we showed to you. it's near chicago right now. now, some of the latest computer models do not keep this line totally intact. so that doesn't mean that everybody would be getting strong storms. but there is 3:00. it's just going past allentown. 4:30, just coming through philadelphia. perhaps up to 5:00 or so. and then going down toward the shore. there it is. atlantic city. and by 6:30 it's just about gone. so we're just talking about a temporary thing. strong, gusty winds. and there is the symbol for the first alert. so not in philadelphia. at least not at this point.

90 degrees, though, around the area. a little bit cooler inially high valley because the showers and storms will get there earlier. robinsville in the first alert because that's in mercer county. other parts of new jersey not in the first alert yet. and at the shore of course it's going to be cooler because of the sea breeze coming in. and speaking of the shore, tomorrow 78 degrees. just that brief thunderstorm. perhaps dinnertime or so. sunday, 80 degrees. windy. but it's an offshore wind. in the poconos, 76 degrees. the showers come earlier saturday. dry on sunday. but kind of cool. and windy, with temperatures in the 60s. the weekend forecast once again, 90 in philadelphia on saturday with that brief heavy thunderstorm. sunday is dry. but very windy. we've got windy conditions sunday across the entire area. the cool weather is at the jersey shore with the sea breeze tomorrow. but there is a land breeze on sunday.
