>> reporter: christina grimmie full of life and cheerful. the 22-year-old singer and former contestant on "the voice." released this video on social media before her latest concert in orlando. hours after this video was taken, a male suspect approached grimmie as she signed autographs for fans. >> the suspect walked up and shot christina. at that point, we know her brother tackled the suspect and that's when the suspect shot himself. >> reporter: the gunman, dead. his motive, unknown. the attacker had two guns on him. grimmie was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition. shortly after, her publicist confirmed that she succumbed to her injuries. christina has passed and went home to be with the lord. ♪ i came in >> reporter: grimmie was third runner up on "the voice" on adam

and heard she was shot. the bad news of her passing, of course. i mean, it is just so sad. so young. this was a girl and people say the phrase, so-and-so was a nice person. such a sweet person. christina really was. she was special. she was special. she would walk in the room. she had an infectious laugh. i'm surprised she did not win season six. her star was shining so bright which makes this tragedy that much harder this morning. as a show, we're thinking about her. her mom and dad and brother who was heroic last night. it's tough, craig. this really is. another senseless loss to gun violence. how many times do we do these stories? >> she was a crowd favorite. millions of fans. carson daly, thank you so much for talking to us this morning.

very early stages of the investigation. we are trying to figure out what happened. we are going to be all over the story for the next few days. let's turn to the weather now. 50 million people in the country are under threat of severe weather at some point today from the midwest and northeast. i know you have your eye on that. >> in the northeast, especially because of all the big cities that will see effects of the thunderstorms. we could see delays at airports. we don't have a big threat of tornadoes. this is more of a gusty wind threat. gusting up to 50 or 60 miles per hour. doesn't look like a lot right now. davenport, spotty showers. north of syracuse. we will see pockets of heavy rain. nothing severe right now. we have the right set up to see the chance of severe storms. huge ridge in the middle of the country. it's high heat and humidity which will fuel the storms. add that to the cold front and that's going to be the trigger for the storms later on this afternoon. keep in mind they are scattered. not everyone will see a storm

thank you. >> in dallas, domestic violence ended with gunfire at love field airport. the confrontation was caught on tape as a police officer opened fire wounding a man who appeared to be threatening him with rocks. the suspect was seen minutes before smashing windows of a car belonging to his ex-girlfriend. this caused a lockdown and caused delays for hundreds of passengers. the online media company gawker filed for bankruptcy three months after losing the case involving hogan. gawker ordered to pay more than $140 million for the hogan sex tape. the company's founder vows the writers will not be silenced. the golden state warriors are one game away. last night in game four, it was

pre-rinse? >> what they tell you today is pick up the plate and wipe it off and put it in. >> don't need to pre-rinse? >> it is wasting water. some people totally wash dishes before they put them in. that is totally dumb. >> i'll tell my wife. >> when you load the plates, make sure they are facing inside where the water pumps in the center of the dish washwashedis. there is nothing worse than going to bed and you hear the dishes clink together. dish washing loading is a point of contention. >> what about flatware? >> i would put them face down. >> you put them up. nesting is where the spoons go up. you do this, this, this. that's how do you it. the other tip that my plumber

told me. before you start the dishwasher, put the hot water on for 30 seconds. the first water that hits your dishes is going to be hot. >> loading pans. how do we do that? >> a lot of people do wrong is they want to stick their pans all over the dishwasher and cram them in. do not put your pans here. that prohibits the dispenser from opening up and soap from coming in. you should put them on the sides and back of the dishwasher. that will get them clean. >> quickly before we get to the laundry. the rinse stuff? use or don't use? >> absolutely. new dishwashers use less water. this helps glasses to not look spotty. either way, before we forget. do not do this. >> and the actual compartment. >> who knew people were doing that. >> a lawyer told me she was doing this and her dishes were filthy. it comes out in the first water. >> now we're going to do stains.

>> wine. people love wine. food and wine stains. give us the best way. >> so embarrassing. >> it happens all the time. >> if you can, stick one of these in the purse or diaper bag or briefcase. >> they really work? >> as soon as this happens, go to the bathroom with a cloth or paper towel and do this. as soon as you get home, take it off, spray it with and wash it. >> have you done that for wine? does it work? >> it does work. if you don't have one of these. if you are going out, you don't have one in the evening bag. club soda really works. somebody spilled coffee on my yellow sofa, it works. >> i can't remember the last time i started laundry when i was single. talk to me about sorting laundry. >> two bad things. they don't sort or think about

the temperature. some people do it all in cold or hot to save money. the new washers use a lot less water. it is better to do smaller loads that are appropriately sorted. >> how do we sort? >> it is very important to look at the care label. >> you are doing all the things i don't do. >> once you look at it, you remember. if it says warm, do it it warm. the warmer the temperature, the cleaner your clothes. don't use hot unless something is very dirty. it is very rough on the clothes. clothes will last longer on warm or cold. >> let's get to the soap. i saw detergent 5 for $1. how bad can it be? >> the most important thing is how much you use. six times or eight times concentrated. read the directions on the bottle. the other thing, for dishwashers, read the directions that come with the machine.
