jessica boyington with the first alert traffic. >> there's ongoing construction on the vine street expressway, closing it between broad street and the schuylkill expressway. these are the westbound lanes. all traffic is being diverted off on to the broad street exit. that will typically be closed until about 5:00 this morning. there's more construction, this one is out on the admiral wilson boulevard headed eastbound. the right lane is closed. expect maybe some small delays there. maybe not yet. here's the schuylkill expressway, through the conshohocken curve, looking okay. the drive time still 12 minutes into the city, eastbound from the blue route to the vine. breaking from overnight, an alligator dragged a 2-year-old into the water in orlando and the child hasn't been seen since. police say the boy and his father were wade in about a foot of water at disney's floridian the gator was too quick. >> as a father, as a

grandfather, we're going to hope for the best in these circumstances. but based upon my 35 years of law enforcement experience, we know we have some challenges ahead of us at this time. >> all night, crews have been frantically searching the waters for the toddler. the family is visiting orlando from nebraska. 4:03 and 64 degrees outside. five people, some of them teenagers are in a wilmington hospital this morning after being shot. police say a gunman opened fire last night around 9:15 near south van buren and read street. police are looking for the gun and trying to get a description of the shooter. the names and conditions of the victims with not been released. flames are caught on camera shooting through the roof of a two-story mercer county home. the fire began just before 10:00 last night in ewing township. firefighters battled the house

fire for about an hour before gaining control. now to the latest in the investigation into the orlando deadly mass shooting. federal agents say omar mateen's wife was with her husband when he bought ammunition and a holster used in the attack that left 49 people dead and 50 hurt. and that she may have tried to talk him out of the killing spree weeks ago, she had gone to the club with him a couple of times. the fbi is taking a closer look at reports that mateen was a regular at the gay nightclub. a former co-worker describes mateen as angry and unpredictable. >> throw things, slam his hands down, a violent outbreak, a rage. >> i was really scared of him. >> we have learned that fbi agents spoke with mateen's in-laws yesterday at their home in california. the city of orlando continues to grieve. last night, five major vigils were held citywide. one was at first baptist,

orlando's biggest church. we're getting the first look at the medical heroes, the nurses and trauma surgeons who treated 44 of the victims. >> in a matter of 30 minutes we had multiple surgeons coming in the door to help us out. i saw dozens of nurses who i knew were not on that night who showed up. >> president obama will be in orlando on thursday to meet with their victims and families. nbc 10's george spencer is in orlando. his reports continue today on nbc 10 news. akyra murray was in orlando celebrating her graduation with family and friends. she was a basketball standout and received a full scholarship to mercyhurst university. the private vigil will be held at 6:00. you can find more of those details on the nbc 10 app. the gunman entered the bathroom and was shooting his

we saw yesterday morning in delaware. they're at 60 degrees. it's in the 50s, 54 degrees for the lehigh valley and some of the suburbs. south jersey at 52. philadelphia will warm into the 80s. didn't happen yesterday for most locations. upper 70s at philadelphia international where right through it's 64 degrees. it is dry this morning. that may change later today. there are showers, a first round of showers not very impressive, just some light rainfall that's moving through west virginia. this is a possibility that we could see a sprinkle or a brief shower into the noontime hour in some of the suburbs and in delaware. most of the area will be staying dry, isolated shower threat. that's all we'll see today. otherwise, it will be partly sunny and warmer this afternoon. the better chance of showers, that's the next round. it's moving in from the west. that will be arriving overnight tonight and this time tomorrow morning at 4:00 a.m. we'll be tracking some showers and possibly some thunderstorms in the area.

but not today. during the day todayual need your sunglasses at least to start with. humidity will be low at 11:00, 77. 80 degrees at 3:00. we'll see clouds increasing during the day in philadelphia. suburbs, same story, sunshine in the morning, 70s, upper 70s with clouds taking over during the afternoon. clouds on the increase for the lehigh valley late in the day as well. there will be some breaks in the clouds, partly sunny this afternoon. 83 degrees for the lehigh valley. so the south, delaware, 75 and mostly cloudy by later in the morning, those clouds will be hanging in there in the afternoon. this is where we could see an isolated shower late morning and early afternoon hours. new jersey, sunshine will warm temperatures to the upper 70s by 11:00 in the morning and low 80s while the shore will also see that slow increase in clouds today. 76 degrees at 3:00 this afternoon. showers are less likely to develop at the shore, at least

it's just about 4:15. the terror in orlando has gripped the nation as investigators try to figure out why the gunman decided to open fire in that nightclub, we're getting a firsthand account from one of the survivors of the attack, minute by minute. take a listen to 21 philadelphia native patience carter. >> the gunman entered the bathroom and was shooting his machine gun. we're all scrambling around in the bathroom, screaming at the top of our lungs when he was in there for the first time and then, you know, people are getting hit by bullets. blood is everywhere. it was shock. we just went from having the time of our lives to the worst night of our lives all within a matter of minutes. laid there for hours and hours, hoping that someone came and got us and hoping that the police would come through at that point in time and just save us all. but throughout that period of hours, the gunman was in there with us. and he actually made a call to 911 from in there.

everybody could hear it who was in the been room, could hear him talking to 911 saying the reason why he's doing this is because he wants america to stop bombing his country. and from that conversation, from 911, he pledged his allegiance to isis. he even spoke to us directly in the bathroom. he said are there any black people in here? i was too afraid to answer. but there was an african-american male in the stall where the majority of my body was had answered. he said, yes, there are about six or seven of us. the gunman responded back to him saying that, you know, i don't have a problem with black people. this is about my country. you guys suffered enough. he made a statement saying that it wasn't about black people. this isn't the reason why he's doing this. but through the conversation with 911, he said that the reason why he was doing this because he wanted america to stop bombing his country.

he said, hey, you, to someone on the floor inside the bathroom and shot them. shot another person and then shot another person who happened to be directly behind me who i'm told, through the eyes of her, shielded me with their body. they bust through the wall and start engaging in gunfire after they told him put your weapon down, put your weapon down, he didn't. they engaged in gunfire. they got him. i was begging for god to take the soul out of my body. i didn't want to feel any more pain. >> patience carter share a poem she wrote on monday night. one of the lines in the poem reads "the built of being alive is heavy." in a show of support for the victims of the terror in orlando, dozens gathered in

colliko collings wo collingswood, camden county. a similar sight in morristown, burlington county. a group gathered outside the first baptist church of morristown to pray for the friends and families of the victims of the attack. preventing more tragedy. ahead in our next half hour, the terror in orlando is raising safety concerns for the owner of a gayç nightclub at the jersey shore. 4:18. 64 degrees. in other news, atlantic city officials say the former revel casino is not ready to open quite yet. that, despite a new promise from its owner glenn straub. he insists it will re-open with 900 hotel rooms and amenities. but officials say he doesn't have a certificate of occupancy. >> who will be working inside the building when it opens? >> a contractor. >> the subcontractor has employees lined up?

>> i don't know. you have to ask them. >> a high level city official tells nbc 10 if hard work continues around the clock, a fourth of july weekend opening seems more feasible. general motors has unveiled a new feature to keep parents from forgetting kids in hot cars. the company calls it the rear seat reminder system. once a rear door is open, the system activates and then anytime after that, a chime will sound after the ignition is turned off and message pops up on the display, reminding the driver to check the back seat. system will debut on next year's gmc acadia. now your nbc 10 first alert neighborhood weather with meteorologist bill henley. >> 19 minutes after 4:00. a dry and cool start this morning. temperatures will be warming up nicely this afternoon. we saw 70s in philadelphia yesterday. we saw lots of sunshine and we'll start with sunshine today. as the day goes on, we'll see more and more clouds leading to some rain. we're not getting the steady northwesterly winds.

the temperatures will be running warmer this afternoon. increasing clouds during the day, too, though. most areas will stay dry for today. we are tracking showers and a potential for thunderstorms. for tomorrow, the chances of rain go way up for thursday. notice friday, allentown, atlantic city, the philadelphia area and dover, the chances for rain come way down. the best chance of wet weather is going to be tomorrow. and those showers are to our west this morning. we're starting to see some of the high clouds move into the area. nothing more than that this morning. a few scattered light showers to the west. look at the heavy weather moving through the midwest to the chicago area. that's where showers and thunderstorms are moving through at this time. those will be sweeping through the chicago area but not an issue for us until late tonight and tomorrow. but we will see some wet weather. after a mainly dry day today, there's a slight chance of a pop-up shower this afternoon. most of the activity will stay to our west. as we go into tomorrow, though,

showers and the potential for thunderstorms will be with us, even into the afternoon hours. during the late afternoon hours, we'll start to see a break in the rainfall and then there's just a chance we'll see some showers on friday and a good chance we'll be in for at least some sunshine to start with. so we'll keep an eye on the sky for today with a cloud increasing this afternoon, along with the temperature, up to 784 grows. steadier rain, that's in the forecast for tomorrow. won't be an hull-day rainfall. we'll see rain in the morning and into the afternoon hours. 75 degrees tomorrow. look at friday. turning partly sunny, a slight chance of an isolated shower on friday. we're dry this weekend, perfect weather for father's day, 85 degrees after a nice warmup saturday afternoon. both days we'll see the humidity, not all that high but look at the heat. here it comes for monday, tuesday and wednesday, into the low 90s, back into the 80s for thursday and friday. tracy? >> look at that weekend, bill. all right. thanks. 4:21 right now. let's get you to work. let's start with pennsylvania

it's 4:25 and 64 degrees outside. today gloucester county will be passing out fans with summer around the corner and the temperatures rising, the county is holding its annual keep cool fan distribution for older adults. officials are trying to help people 60 and older living on fixed incomes stay cool during the summer months. the fans can be picked up today from 10:00 to 11:00 at the glassboro senior center or between 1:00 and 2:30 in west deptford at the gloucester county senior services office. there is increasing evidence linking lack of sleep to health problems in children. they are updating their sleep guidelines. the american academy of sleep medicine is now recommending 12 to 16 hours of sleep for babies, 11 to 14 hours for toddlers, 9 to 12 for elementary school kids and the recommendation for teenagers is 8 to 10 hours of sleep a day. now your nbc 10 first alert
