them. >> reporter: this evening police are not confirming or denying the presence of gang activity, but they say they don't have a suspect in the shooting. live in wilmington, nbc10 news. turning to the terror in orlando. >> as communities across the country mourn the 49 people killed in sunday's massacre at a guy club, there's no information about the gunman. >> we have more on the developments from our digital operations center. jacqueline? >> reporter: prosecutors are not speculating on whether any charges may be brought in the investigation to sunday's shooting. they said during a neuse news conference that it would be premature to talk about possible charges. authorities are looking into what the wife of gunman omar ma tebow keep knew ahead of time. we're also learning more about mateen's movements before he attacked. orlando's mayor today said mateen drove around the city and

visited several locations saturday night. hours later, he began his assault inside the pulse nightclub. the attack that left 49 dead before police shot and killed the gunman. authorities have said they were looking into whether mateen was scouting disney world as a target. orlando's mayor would not confirm disney world was one of the stopt the gunman made saturday. mateen's father questioned the club's security. >> when 300 or 400 people comes to the business, they should have a good security. the lives of 400 people doped that business. it's easy for them to make money. maybe they had some kind sloppy security. >> reporter: in other developments, records revealed that omar mateen passed a psychological evaluation in 2007 as part of his application to be a private security guard. as for victims still in the

heartbreaking update. just about 30 minutes ago from the orange county sheriff right here in the staging area. after more than 16 hours of searching, a heartbreaking news that the family waited all day to hear. the orange county sheriff telling us dive teams found the body of 2-year-old lane graves. who was reported missing by his father. his father telling us the gator took him from shallow water at a disney record and taking him into the water. he was found in the murky water not far actually from where he was reported missing. his body of found intact. you may remember officials, dive teams, people from florida fish and wildlife and orange county sheriff's office worked all through the night to try to find him. even using sonar technology to try to trace the gaidar. we're told his body was still intact. officials are -- trace the

the jury deliberating the fate of congressman chaka fattah just wrapped up for the day. we have more live outside federal court in center city with the latest development here. >> reporter: it was about 20 minutes ago the jury left for

the day. they only have the case for about two hours. they spent most of the day getting instructions from the judge and started their deliberations at about quarter after 3:00 this afternoon. it was a day with no witnesses, no statements from any of the lawyers. after five weeks, the case is in the hands of 12 people who sat and listened to witnesses and looked at hundreds of pages of document. in front of them is whether or not congressman chaka fattah stole campaign money, took bribes and defrauded educational charities. the judge told the jury they will have access to the more than 400 documents in the case. the first order of business, electing a fourth person. the jury was redskinstructed ton looking at the 28 crimes against fattah and his four co-defendant. courtroom watchers say they don't expect this verdict to be reached quickly, although there are 28 counts in the indictment. each dvd is charged with a different number of counts. some more than others. the jury must weed through all of that and decide if they

believe that any in the group willfully committed a crime. that's the latest from federal court. nbc10 news. turning to decision 2016. fresh off primary wins in washington, d.c., last night, hillary clinton and donald trump are back on the campaign trail today. trump held a rally inside the fox theater in atlanta today. the presumptive republican nominee ramped up his rhetoric about muslims and islamic terror in the wake of the deadly shooting in orlando. trump called for a ban on all foreign muslims entering the us and for stepped up surveillance now of american muslims here at home. hillary clinton campaigned in virginia where she called trump's plan dangerous. the presumptive democratic nominee for president held a national security discussion with members of the military community. clinton says now is the time to build trust in muslim community here at home.

despite a loss in the district of columbia last night and the end of primary season, bernie sanders has yet to announce any plans to drop out of the presidential race. the vermont senator is expected to hold a news conference or a conference call with supporters come tomorrow. coming up on nbc10 news at 5:45, nbc10 talks with supporters of the presumptive nominee's. they'll hear why there is such a big push for pennsylvania come november. sky force 10 was over olney where a crash injured four people including pair of philadelphia police officers. the police officers crashed into a car outside a church at 4th and tabor road around noon. they were taken to the hospital to be checked out along with two people in the car. despite a $46 million budget gap, new jersey transit says it won't make cuts or raise fares. today, the agency's board heard details about the operating budget for the coming fiscal year. the gap is from a one-time

payment to bus workers after a contract settlement last year. because of an existing savings account, new jersey transit can avoid cuts to staff or service. the atlantic city school district pulled a switcheroo today. >> the teachers became the students. nbc10 at the school parent center in atlantic city. elementary school teachers took on the role of students to learn a new launch curriculum designed by project lead the way. teaches students how to become real-world problem solvers using tools like wheels, axles, and levers. the goal is to get these teachers ready to teach the lessons. >> they get to experience exactly what their students will experience in the classroom. so they are experiencing the highs, the lows, and they're able to take that back to the classroom which will allow them to better help their students. >> the new curriculum will be taught to kindergarteners

20 young dogs have been rescued from what authorities describe as a deplorable situation in ocean county. >> shelters across new jersey are caring for the puppies that have h barely any contact with people. and new at 5:30, nbc10 has more

from the jersey shore bureau on the story. ted? >> reporter: denise and keith, several puppies are being cared for at a shelter here in atlantic city. and even more were taken today from a second location linked to the same owner. [ barking ] >> reporter: they are easily frightened, especially by the sight of a person. >> everything is completely new to them. >> reporter: the four puppies now at the humane society of atlantic county are among 20 rescued from what have been described as horrific, miserable conditions. >> we could see how absolutely terrified the dogs were. >> reporter: authorities say the dogs, many about five-month-old, were being kemtd inside a garage -- being kept inside a garage in jackson township with no ventilation or windows. >> no daylight. they've never been outside. the first time they've been outside is here. >> they were completely covered with mats and feces and dried urine. >> reporter: many of the dogs are shaved. since thursday, red bank based home animal rescue removed 14 puppies from the garage. several ended up at the

associated humane society's shelter in lacey township. then today, members of the rescue group say they took six more dogs from a filthy house in jackson about 15 minutes away from the garage. they say the same woman owns both properties. >> it's not right for any animal or person to live in conditions like that. >> reporter: the new jersey state spca is leading the investigation. a spokesman tells me authorities are still conducting interviews. at this point, no charges have been filed. >> they didn't see anybody except for the person there feeding them. >> reporter: rescue members say the dog's owner initially reached out to them saying she had become overwhelmed since. since the puppies are so scared of people, it could be months before they're ready for adoption. >> they have a lot of work because they've missed the most impressionable time with people as far as being handled. >> reporter: other than suffering from extreme stress, i'm told the dogs are in relatively good health.

morning. the truck hit a construction sign, then caught fire. the northbound lanes were closed for several hours. a 29-year-old reading man will spend the next 30 to 60 years in prison for killing a man he met on craigslist. tyrell young pled guilty to the murder of eric irvin. irvin was trying to sell a car in april of 2014 and posted it on craigslist. young responded to that ad, shot and killed and called irvin, and took the car. young used his cell phone to call and inquire about the car. police tracked the phone and arrested him. the popular home-sharing site airbnb has agreed to start collecting state taxes on behalf of those who rent out their homes. pennsylvania's 6% hotel occupancy tax will go into effect starting july 1st. hotel occupancy taxes apply when renting out a house room or apartment for fewer than 30 days. it's expected to generate about $1 million a year for out state. the former revel casino in

a beautiful day for parts of the area. if you were in delaware or new jersey, you at least saw some light showers around. here's a live look over the skyline. overcast skies, earlier we were sunny. now we're starting to see changes. don't forget your seven-day forecast is always scrolling at the bottom of the screen for you, too. you'll never miss that even if we go into your father's day weekend. philadelphia, 77. the winds are breezy right around 12 miles per hour. as we go into tomorrow, we're going to be looking at rain around for the morning commute. it's different from what we see now. in delaware, temperature 73 degrees. lehigh valley, sunny and 80. a difference from north to south. south of philadelphia, that's where the cloud cover has been. that's where the rain has been. a look at the neighborhood temperatures, greenville, 74. 76 in odessa. 73 in middletown. if you're in kent county, dover, 75. then if we get closer to the

beaches in sussex county, we're seeing temperatures more like 60s. 69 long neck. 67 in dewey beach with a south wind. also the overcast skies. that's where we've seen showers. weather headlines, we'll stay mostly dry for tonight. overnight, that's when the showers start to move back in. then tomorrow morning, the rain will be here. and a chance for thunderstorms farther south. the best chance at this point looks like delaware, maybe parts of south jersey in the morning. we go into the weekend, and we're looking nice and dry in time for your father's day. live look at the radar right now. maybe a few sprinkles trying to move along the shore. maybe a few sprinkles through the philadelphia area at best. all the rain we're watching tomorrow is back to the west. showers and thunderstorms there. and we'll be seeing them moving in early in the morning. here's future weather. tonight, we basically stay dry. look at the showers approaching by 12:30 tonight, around midnight. a big area of showers, possibly thunderstorms just off to the west approaching the philadelphia area. then they move through parts of

delaware and south jersey for the earliest part of the community -- earliest part of the commute. you could run into heavy rain between 5:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. the rain should be continuing for most of the area. for the morning commute through the afternoon, we still expect showers around. then we go into friday. that you will starts to shift to the south. we'll see gradual clearing from north to south on. friday, the best chance of a lingering shower would be in new jersey or delaware. so we go into your weekend not looking too bad. again, that north-to-south clearing on friday. we'll see temperatures around 80 degrees. then the best rain chance along the shore and in delaware, saturday, sunny, low 80s. father's day, sunny, mid 80s. >> thank you. lester holt joins us from the nbc studios in new york. >> good evening, what's coming up on "nightly news"? >> hey, tonight the disney alligator attack of the young child. we'll look at who disney may have known about the gator threat on the property.

it's an issue that's ignited cautions and sparked protests on both sides. this time tomorrow, we could know if a new soda tax will go into effect in philadelphia. good evening. council members will vote on the proposed tax increase on sugary drink tomorrow. the controversial proposal would pay for educational programs and improving of recreation centers. new details about how the money will be spent is being used by the opposition in a last-ditch effort to derail the plan. nbc10's andrea kline thomas joins with us more on the debate. andr andrea? >> reporter: the mayor says that that criticism is coming straight from the soda industry. he says it will not work. he and the council president

expect the soda tax to pass even if council members have lingering questions. on the eve of the monumental soda tax vote, mayor jim kenney continues to make his pitch at the smart center pre-k. >> it's never a done deal in government politics. you work hard up until the very vote. i think we'll be fine. >> reporter: the 1.5 cents-per-ounce tax would pay for pre-k expansion and improvement of recreation centers. that's not all. criticism reignited when it was realized that more than 10% of the fund will be used for unrelated program. and excess will be put to the general fund. >> as we collect this tax and we begin to ramp up the programs, some of the money will sit in the general fund until it's ready to be spent on programs. >> reporter: curtis jones said council know all of the details even if it wasn't specifically highlighted by the administration. >> now for people to suddenly at the eve of this vote say eureka look what we f
