÷w >> announcer: nbc 10 news starts now. right now at 6:00, searching for clues. investigators are back in the home of a bucks county man accused of sexually assaulting a girl. one of 12 girls found inside the house this week. we're doing a search warrant to collect evidence andç process e crime scene. we're waiting for daylight so we can get better photography done. >> thanks for joining us. i'm denise nakano. according to the criminal complaint, lee kaplan began sexually assaulting one of the victims in 2012, when she was just 14 years old. police say her parents, from lancaster county, gifted her to

the suspect. nbc 10's andrea cline-thomas has been covering the story for us. she's live where investigators have had a busy day. andrea, you just got an update. >> reporter: just minutes ago, denise, we were told investigators are going through every single room in the house, meticulously cataloging everything they've seen. they've found out the children were living in the basement. they said that the children were living on air mattresses. they found homework. a lot of instruments, violins, clarinets, we're assuming the children were being home schooled in the house. investigators say they're not close to being done. authorities returned to the home of lee kaplan, this time to gather evidence. they blocked off the street and brought out dogs to search for clues. despite the large presence, law enforcement remains tight-lipped

about what they're finding or looking for. >> we're processing the crime scene pursuant to a search warrant. >> reporter: the girls were found in his home. kaplan admitted to having intercourse with one of the girls when she was only 14 years old, resulting in the birth of two children. >> the house seemed out of place. one of the windows was boarded up for a few years. other than that, i mean, i didn't suspect anything. >> reporter: police also arrested a couple from this farm in lancaster county, accused of giving their teenaged daughter to kaplan, allegedly in exchange for kaplan saving them from financial hardship. they claim most of the other children in the home are theirs. >> it's scary, knowing it's so close to where we live. >> reporter: neighbors say it was not the first time they

tried to alert authorities. claims law enforcement has yet to address. we did ask law enforcement about that just moments ago. they said they did not respond to specific child abuse calls to this home. now, they alsoç tell us that t children are in the custody of children and youth services. they've been placed together at a home in lancaster county. they've not been able to find birth certificates to identify the children and have not interviewed them in depth yet. andrea cline-thomas, nbc 10 news. >> nbc 10 has the names and photos of parents charged in this case but we're choosing not to run them to protect the identity of the victim, the couple's daughter. count on nbc 10 for complete coverage on this story. for updates be sure to tap the nbc 10 app. new at 6:00, one man is dead and another is fighting for life after a shooting in philadelphia's overbrook

neighborhood. nbc 10 on the scene on edgemoor road around 3:00 p.m. police tell us the second victim is in critical condition right now. so far there have been no arrests. turning now to the latest on the terror in orlando. the global security firm that employed the gunman is facing scrutiny tonight over whether it adequately screened him. a psychologist released a statement to nbc news that she never did a psychological evaluation on omar mateen. the firm had said the psychologist conducted the test back in 2007, certifying that he was emotionally stable, allowing him to get a permit to carry a firearm as a security guard. one of the survivors of last sunday's nightclub massacre is on the road to recovery. tony marrero is walking for the

first time since the attack. marrero tried to play dead at pulse nightclub but he was shot in the back. the debate over assault style weapons has intensified following what happened in orlando. here at home, dozens of people demonstrated outside a congressional office today to call for stronger gun laws. nbc 10's drew smith reports from springfield, delaware county, where activists say they'll be keeping the pressure on lawmakers. >> reporter: there is now a call to action posted outside congressman patrick meehan's office asking that he sign on as a co-sponsor to a law banning assault weapons. through chants and tears, speakers urged something about done about gun violence. they stood above a banner showing the faces of 49 people gunned down in orlando, including a young woman fromç philadelphia. >> i stand here for kyra, who was 18 years old and had her whole life in front of her.

>> reporter: she says she's never gotten over the deadly shooting of her own child. and that's why she marched with these activists today. >> we should not have assault weapons in our communities. >> for god's sake, congress, pass the bill. >> reporter: the senate is set to vote on several gun safety measures on monday but opponents have vowed to defeat them. donald trump promised to save gun rights. >> they're not going to take away your bullets, they're not going to shorten up your magazines. >> reporter: gun control advocates have many times after tragedies tried to make a change. but now some leaders say the time is right. >> there is a determination that's new in this country. >> reporter: the gun reform group says they have a good relationship with the congressman and expect to have a dialogue with him on this issue in the coming weeks. in springfield, drew smith, nbc 10 news. and now to our forecast.

is, really. plenty of sunshine and temperatures in the mid-80s, at least in philadelphia, official high 85 degrees. you have your seven-day scrolling continuously at the bottom of the screen for the remainder of the segment. into your sunday, father's day looking spectacular. very similar conditions compared to what we saw for today, just a little bit warmer. the humidity looks like it's going to stay low. even as we head into monday, summer does start monday evening. it's still going to be warm and sunny. if you didn't get a chance to enjoy the weather this weekend, monday is looking nice as well. it's not until the middle of the week that we're tracking showers, particularly tuesday into wednesday in some spots. again, a lot of nice weather to enjoy over the course of the next couple of days. right now, 83 in some of our p.a. suburbs. in philadelphia, 85, particularly at the airport. same goes for those in west mt. airy. we are at 87 degrees toward penn's port.

we're at 70 degrees in atlantic city. point somers, 72. you don't have to go too much inland for things to warm up, 80 at woodbine, 79 in mays landing. high pressure is still going to be in control this weekend, giving us another gorgeous day. you can see we have plenty of dry air in place across the northeastern u.s. and the mid-atlantic as well, even extending back into the central plains. again, another beautiful day in store as high pressure stays locked-in across the area. this will build south over the course of the next day or two, intensifying the southerly flow. that will cause warming to 90 degrees over the next day or two. some clouds on monday start to build off to the west. that's our next front approaching. for the most part, any wet weather should hold off into tuesday. at the very earliest, this particular model is bringing in
