windows blown in, trees down, some rotation or most of it may have moved offshore. keeping you updated own storms in delaware. more details on that coming up. nbc 10's first alert weather breaking news. >> at the top of the hour now at 4:00, as you've been hearing, following severe weather in parts of the area. as we heard from meteorologist sheena, in fact, a tornado warning at this hour in cape may county, a look now at live radar with heavy storms moving through at this hour. here's the latest on the storms. >> you know, a warning for cape may county. a live look at cape may county right now. this is cape may, what you saw, not heavy a rainfall as seen a while ago, but we still have tornado warning for cape may county. in effect until 4:15. we keep with cape may county at

the moment, more thunderstorms in delaware, mostly for parts of kent and sussex county, but cape may seeing the tornado warning. north of cape may, wildwood, cape may courthouse, villas, stone harbor, reports of windows blown in. we expect, if we do not have an actual tornado on the ground with this thing, we expect wind gusts near 60-70 miles per hour. damaging winds. we have the warning up. you want to get into a basement. if you don't have a basement, get in the lowest level of the home, and interior hallway or closet and stay away from windows. as i mentioned, there's reports of windows blown in. there you see it, cape may, looking right there at the tornado warning. that's still in effect until 4:15, and this section of cape may we're dealing with heavy rain, a lot of lightning, and gusts near 50-zigt miles per hour. we can't rule out the potential for small hail, but other sections around the area where we're looking at possibly very

heavy rain along with the damaging wind gusts. looking at potential rotation with the storm, looking here, i don't see much in the way of rotation, however, we could still be seeing gusts anywhere from 60-70 miles per hour. that's what we are seeing right there with the velocity. now we take a look closer in del delaware. cape may has strong thunderstorms and in parts of delaware as well. we'll take a look, real quick, at delaware. if you're in kent county, you are dealing with severe storms and sussex county with severe storms too. now sussex county, heavy rains, winds at 70 miles per hour, severe thunderstorms, also seeing potential for very damaging winds. looking across the bay into cape may county, and there we see, again, the tornado warning going on at this moment.

avalon and damaging reporting in villas and other parts around. we're going to actually continue to look at the radar here, seeing that tornado warning at the moment for cape may, where you see the red. the red area is indicating a tornado warning. if you're in the area, you want to get to a basement. if you don't have a basement, lowest level of the home, interior hallway or closet, and stay away from windows. right now, though, we're going to take a look at what's going on in cape may at the moment, and what exactly are we circling here, david? correlation for the area. okay. what we are looking at in this area, where we have potentially been seeing quite a bit rotation around north cape pay, diamond beach, looking at these sections, we could be seeing the most damage, highest winds as well. so what we are looking at is some very high winds or at least estimated winds, potentially damaging winds near 60-70 miles

per hour. this is something that we're going to be watching through the next several minutes here and also extends down in parts of delaware. severe that were warning for sussex county until 4:30 and damaging winds here as well. remaining south of philadelphia. if you are watching, in the philadelphia area and you see this, do not expect it to move into the philadelphia area. this is all confined to south jersey and delaware. that's what we're currently looking at. a live picture of cape may. this is what it looks like right now. we're looking at now so much heavy rain in that impage, but there's other areas in cape may county where there's heavy rain. right now, we're looking at just dark skies and potentially still very damaging winds at 60-70 miles per hour. there's windy conditions here as well. we have the tornado warning up for cape may county. more on that and thunderstorms

and where nay are headed. now, did the tornado warning for cape may get cancelled? i think it was cancelled. if the tornado warning got cancelled -- yes, it did, we still have a severe thunderstorm warning for cape may. the tornado warning is cancelled. not enough reation in the storm to call it a tornado warning anymore, however, for cape may, we still have damaging winds at 60 to 70 miles per hour in delaware and delaware bay. more about the sorms and where they are headed and what to expect the rest of the evening coming up. >> okay. i know we're be in close contact with you as conditions change by the minute. >> going live to the phone in wildwood. what's the situation, christian? >> caller: i can tell you conditions out here in wildwood are very dangerous, inside the live truck. we tried to get outside of the van, but the winds so strong we were not able to actually open the door. i've been looking at the folks

out here off magnolia avenue and board walk, and people are trying to get across the board walk going from post to post, door by door trying to take shelter from the winds. the winds were a little bit stronger just a couple minutes ago, and they -- looks like they just got -- the wind speeds just started going a little bit down. there is rain out here. some of the streets are starting to flood. a lot of debris on the streets. a lot of trash. folks out here trying to make their way across, no luck there. plenty of people out here trying to seek cover. we saw some of the electricity from some of the businesses out here, they were flickering. the lights are up right now in some spots. we did hear -- saw lightning, heard thunder. plenty of rain right now. wind, like i said, still going,

not as strong as it was a couple minutes ago, but definitely something to take note if you're out and about on the board walk. >> all right, christian, live on the phone with our sister station from wildwood cape may county. thank you, christian. as we continue to see radar, as you heard, the tornado warning in effect for cape may county, that is is no longer in place, but there is still a severe thunderstorm warning, and we're talking about winds up to 60-70 miles per hour. be safe in the area. we will continue to keep you updated on changing weather conditions. 20 minutes of nonstop news continues with breaking news. a guilty verdict for chaka fattah today. we were there as the embattled politician walked out of federal court this afternoon moments after the jury found him guilty of corruption.

the message from the jury was very clear finding him guilty on all charges he faced. >> now the philadelphia community is left with a sitting congressman who is a convicted flon. the jury found him guilty on racketeering, fraud, and money laundering. centered on efforts to repay an illegal campaign loan to fund his failed bid in 2007. he'll remain free on bail and out of prison until sentencing in october. live coverage on the verdict and community reaction as he falls from grace. we are in the courtroom as fa h fattah learned the face. >> reporter: had the same smile throughout the trial on his face as the jury read the charges against him. the guilty verdict, 22 of them, found guilty on racketeering, bribery, and money laundering. >> tough day.

we're going to talk with the lawyers figure out the next steps. >> reporter: what are the next steps? sentencing in october, some of the crimes carry a ten year prison sentence, some 30 years behind bars. found guilty of 20 crimes. troubles began in 2007 according to prosecutor running for mayor, disorganized campaign and lack of cash propelled him to set up imlegal campaign loan from a wealthy golf buddy, that loan? $1 million. found guilty of fraud for using co-defendant to pay it back. bulk came from a nonprofit he founded. $500,000, which is to fund the education of disadvantaged college students. instead, he ordered that cash used to settle his debt. the jury found he used campaign money to pay the debt and used bribes, using cash for vacation loans and pay his wage taxes.

the jury did not buy the defense that there was an actual sale, but a sham to hide a bribe and help the couple get cash to secure a mortgage for the pocono home. all right. outside the courthouse there and team coverage continues now with nbc 10's lauren mayk who heard from the prosecution in the last hour. >> what's the reaction? >> reporter: they don't know what to make of some not guilty verdict for one of the congressman's co-defendants, but when it comes to congressman fattah himself, this is what they looked for, those guilty verng verdicts saying he violated the public's trust. government officials who brought the case against the congressman gathered outside the courthouse where the verdict was read. they send a message. >> a clear message today that is

honesty and integrity in government is of utmost importance to the eastern district of pennsylvania as he and his co-defendants violated the trust. >> reporter: leaving court with a smile today after fighting charges for the last year. >> in short, they betrayed public trust and undermind our faith in government. >> reporter: the fbi special agent in charge took to it saying corruption is the top criminal priority. >> assembled here today are a group of exceptional public service investigating the congressman at length seeing evidence of corruption and jury cricketed him on all counts because he was guilty of it. >> reporter: the attorney said today they will be asking for jail time, but still calculating just how much. now, when someone asked him today whether he might be allowed to be out on bail during an appeals process, he said that is very rare.

live in old city, lauren mayk, nbc 10 news. >> all right, lauren. congressman got in a cab outside the courthouse after the verdict was red, skyforce10 followed him to a high-rise. we received a statement from the congressman reacting to the verdict. i'll read it to you now. saying, quote, extraordinarily difficult day for me and my family and the jury decided based on evidence presented to them, i'm guilty of charges presented by the government. n it's been my pleasure to serve the second congressional district for over 20 years. he talks about the work done, legislations passed helping tens of millions of people in the area. i continue to be proud of the record while today's outcome was not what we expected, i respect the system. i thank the people of the second congressional district for the honor of serving them. that statement just in from the

congressman himself. he's been in congress since 1995 and built up a lot of support over the years. >> despite charges and verdict, many are still waivering. nbc 10 comets coverage now with reaction from the people that the congressman served. what are they saying? >> reporter: yeah, we came here on urban talk radio station to hear from his audience here on delaware avenue. we also talked to constituents from the city to the suburbs and found their reaction is mixed. >> i feel if they had enough evidence to convict him, there's some validity to it. has to be some truth. >> reporter: are you surprised? >> no. i think he has not been representing people in his constituency for a long time. i'm satisfied by the verdict. >> reporter: reactions seem divided along the philadelphia-montgomery county line. here's how folks in west philadelphia, near where he grew

up feel. >> i think it's awful. i really hope it doesn't happen for him. his son, and now him too? i don't think he's guilty. >> reporter: 59, stands to spend decades behind bars sentenced on 22 koubcounts in racketeering conspiracy involved in several schemes intent on furthering his political and financial interests by misappropriating federal, charitable, and campaign funds. >> i think it's really a shame when we elect officials to do a job for us, and we put our trust in them, and you have to resort to this kind of activity. it's really unnecessary for personal gain. we had faith in him up until now. it's really a shame that somebody, that i personally voted for, disappointed me. >> reporter: back here live now at radio listening into the callers throughout the evening. working to bring you comments

from those fattah represented on capitol hill. monique braxton, nbc 10. >> thank you. despite the strong following, he lost that april primary. today, the man who beat him is also reacting to the verdict. state representative dwight evans says, quote, it is a sad day for our area. the congressman and all of the people and families that have been involved in this, and i'm committed to move us forward and be the best congressman that i can be. dwight will be on the november ballot to replace fattah. he was on trail with four co-defendants. >> there was a mixed verdict for some of them. lobbyist peterman was shocked he left the courthouse this afternoon, he found guilty on all counts including bribery and bank fraud. >> robert brand guilty on all charges convicting him of conspiracy to commit wire fraud. >> his aid, karen nicholas,

found guilty on some counts including wire fraud and falsification of records. >> the jury returned a split verdict for bonny, his former chief of staff, found guilty on five of 25 counts she faced. howard bruce cline was on the phone in the breaking news coverage. >> a former prosecutor, white collar criminal defense experience, thank you for joining us. >> convicted on all charges and fairly quickly, is that a testament to the evidence, a good job by the prosecution, or rather a bad job by the defense? >> well, it's impossible to know what happened exactly because the jury deliberates behind closed doors, so we don't know whether it was the strength of the evidence or it was the presentation of the case. in either event, a sad day for philadelphia when a 20-year congressman is convicted of corruption. that makes us think we have to

redouble our efforts to make sure that that kind of thing does not happen in philadelphia and the people that we trust are not going to be violating that public trust. it's a sad day for the congressman, for his family, and for his constituents and philadelphia. >> we know in the next half hour, we'll talk about what the conviction on all charges means when it comes to his sentence, coming up in october. thank you. >> we can tell you the same judge who presided over the congressman's trial is also on the bench when fattah's son was convicted on bank and tax fraud in february. chip is currently serving a five-year sentence at the federal correctional institution in mishchigan, found he took pa in a scheme as a sub contractor to defraud the philadelphia school district and scheduled to be released in june of 2020. coverage of today's forget continues, but there's more on sentencing, his political future, and status as a

democratic super delegate. now your nbc 10 first alert neighborhood weather with meteorologist sheena parveen. >> earlier tornado warnings, windows blown in, live damage, trees down across the area, and we still have a severe thunderstorm warning in cape may until 4:30 this afternoon because of potentially damaging winds that exist in the thunderstorms, potentially damaging winds meaning zigt-70 miles per hour. storms moving through have a history of producing gusts near 60-70 miles per hour. sliding into delaware quick now because more thunderstorms are strong. if we take a big look at the picture here, philadelphia, points north, you're in the clear. no storms moving in. it's delaware now. sussex county mainly, moving through kent county, now south in sussex county until 4:30,

south of millford, seeing the heaviest rain and lightning, and looking at cape may and sussex county, there's strong and severe thunderstorms. with my severe storm, we expect damaging winds, lightning, potential for hail, and heavy rain. we're still dealing with that. again, it's not the entire area dealing with this or entire area with the threat of this, just confined to extreme south jersey and delaware. georgetown and near louis, delaware, to longneck, expect some strong storms moving in soon. looking at cape may county, heavy rain here, still cape may courthouse, down to cape may, dealing with heavy rain, gusting winds, damaging winds potentially, lightning, and possibility of some hail in these storms. we're looking at the villas, had windows blown in in a house in the villas. north cape may seeing heavy rain, wildwood as well,

extending to the shore, and this is moving to the south and east, although, at the moment, i don't see it ending any time soon. it'll move offshore, but wild wood, diamond beach, and cape may appointment, seeing heaviest rain and some of the highest winds. the red shows heaviest wind. green shows lighter rain, but add in sussex county and cape may, there's 304 lightning strikes in 15 minutes here when we query all that. looking at lightning, very dangerous. like we said earlier, you want to someday away from windows in the areas with the severe storms. looking down around washington and further west. these storms move down to the south, and overnight tonight, clearing out more. we can't completely rule out this evening from thunderstorms, but we have the timing of what else we may be able to expect coming up. all right. as we continue to follow the weather situation, we're getting information on power outages, right? >> that's right, ac electric

a complaint about a milk shake led a burger king customer to assault a woman in a restaurant. you see the attack unfold in the surveillance video. police say when the man complained, the employee made him two other drinks, but he was still angry. that's when he started throwing things at her and threatened to kill her. police are still looking for a attacker. all right. look at this video. strong winds sent this inflatable bounce houseflying through the airs in new york, sailed over the trees and powerlines before crashing into a transmission power. fortunately, there were not children inside the bounce house. video tweeted out by fire wire, the power company cutting the electricity while workers

house in cape may just right there. listen to that wind. this is also from cape may. this video shot a short time ago. you really hear winds as it whipped through the trees there. now, a tornado warning expired, but the weather threat continue. >> tracking the severe storms, sheena? >> saw the severe storms in cape may and parts of delaware. we did, a second ago, had a severe thunderstorm warning for cape may county, just expired a minute ago, it was until 4:30. in the area, we had strong thunderstorms, and we still do, and we still have the potential of some high winds, potentially damaging winds at the moment, though, cape may county is out of the clear. or in the clear, with the severe thunderstorm warning, although, we are looking at heavy rain and windy conditions as well as lightning in the area. now, this is all staying south of philadelphia. if you're in the philadelphia area, northern delaware, in any

of the pennsylvania suburbs, you're in the clear. you don't have to worry about the storms moving north. they only continue to move south, but now we're looking at sussex county, in parts of sussex county, severe thunderstorm warning, louis, and also areas of heavy rain, lightning, and gusting winds. with any severe storm, gusts near 60, potentially 70 miles per hour, heavy rain, lightning, and possibility of hail. that's what we're looking at in sussex county, georgetown, louis seeing that, and dewy beach areas in sussex county, heavy rain, lightning, wickedy conditions too, and that's going to continue to slide down to the south. cape may county, stone harbor, dennis dealing with some moderate to heavy rainfall. sliding north, atlantic city, you're not dealing with severe storms, but with the rain and

gusty conditions. coming up, a closer look at what to expect the rest of the evening and we'll talk about that tornado warning we had earlier in cape may county. that's straight ahead. back to live pictures now from cape may. there you see the surf is picking up there and severe weather, and joining us on the phone is mayor from wildwood. mayor, what can you tell us about the conditions where you are? >> caller: well, right now, rain tapered off somewhat, the skies are brightening up in the west. we went through something i have not been through in a long time. we had sustained winds, 80-90 miles per hour, trees and wires down, barking wires all over. the public works garage, that's a 0 by 60 billing, garage doors, the whole roof blew off the building. it's -- that building is almost a total loss. it's hard to believe how hard

the winds blew for probably a 15-20 period of time. as strong as i've seen. >> and you said that the rain tapered off now and high winds seemed to have died down quite a bit. do you know of anybody who may have been injured? reports of injuries? >> caller: no reports of injuries. i do know there's a lot of electrics out, powers out in a lot of neighborhoods. urging everyone to stay off the streets. if you don't need to be outside, stay home, and that's the best place for you right now. emergency personnel is running from hot spot to hot spot with pole fires, wires down, wires arking, trees in the roadways, and stay home, stay out of the streets, and, you know, let us handle what we have to take care of here. >> the mayor, with the strong, sustained winds, reports of trees and wires down, i know as much as you'd like for people to

be on the roads, of course, that ends up being the case. there are roads blocked or wires down in areas that you definitely want people to avoid. do you know of any street names or intersections people should deaf nirtly steer clear of? >> caller: stay away from every intersection at this point. the reason being is that the amount of rain that came county, there's water and wires in the water. someone will get e lek cuted. no reason to be out. stay in until we get it under control here. >> the major joining us on the phone. thank you, talking about severe weather. you see the pictures we're showing on the screen right now from cape may county. thank you. appreciate it. >> caller: thank you. right now, back to the other big story at 4:30, a long time pennsylvania congressman convicted, and our cameras there as the congressman walked out a courtroom shortly after being

found guilty on all charges in the corruption trial. those charges included racketeering, fraud, and money laundering. a mixed verdict for four others charged in the case. the 59-year-old served in congress since 1995. joined by howard bruce cline this afternoon. former federal prosecutor, white collar defense attorney. as mentioned, convicted on all charges and quickly here. the next step for him in sentencing, coming up in october. what does this mean as far as sentencing, and pay any restituti restitution? >> sentenced on october 4th. it's up to the judge after receiving a report from the probation department and both sides with the prosecution and defense. at that time, look at the sentencing guidelines, standards to look at for similar crimes committed by others. you also look at the congressman's entire life, all the good things done over the

years, and he's done many good deeds to help thousands of people with college scholarships and gear up program, and that will all be brought up by the defense, and taking entire person's life and the judge looks at everything and then decides what would be an proempt sentence considering the seriousness of the crime, the amount of money involved, and so on. restitution is part of that. restitution is a mandatory requirement. the judge has to impose that. no matter the amount, he'll assess restitution and what you pay out over a period of time. >> all right. howard, appreciate insight as always. chatting with you again at 5:00 about whether the congressman, in fact, more on the issue of restitution and other questions we may get into with you. we appreciate that. a lot of questions remain about the congressman's political future. he was scheduled to be a super delegate for the upcoming national convention, and we checked with a democratic party to find out if he would lose his super delegate status now

convicted, awaiting to hear back, but i understand, i believe we did just get an answer to that from the deputy press secretary for pennsylvania's democratic party. lauren mayk passing this along to us a short time ago saying that because of his position as a democratic congressman, he's a super delegate and his conviction does not constitute an immediate resignation from position in congress, and as such, says he retains position as a super delegate unless he should choose to reside. again, that from the deputy press secretary democratic praert just into us. coverage at 5:00, read more about the history of this case right now on the nbc 10 app. we'll be right back.

kids could get the refridge waiter to get their own water. >> after the lines froze in the fridge last year, she called ge for a repair. they sent out a serviceman to restore it. >> saying it would fix the problem, no more issues. >> this march, the 8-year-old fridge breaks again, leaving her without a working water line. >> you can see one little defect like this that disrupts the household works is very frustrating. >> reporter: paying for another technician from ge to come out. this time, the tech said the only way to fix it was to preplace the entire door or get a new fridge. she said she had to use the water filter pitcher for the kids ever since. for weeks, she tried to get a refound for the calls that did not fix the problem. >> at night, trying to call them was frustrating because having the kids trying to get into the phone conversation was not making it easy. >> reporter: that's when she turned to nbc 10 responds.

about all afternoon, they have basically moved offshore: we're not looking at damaging winds anymore, but from cape may to atlantic city and points north, dealing with lighter rainfall. now, for parts of delaware, m t mostly sussex county, heavy and moderate rainfall near georgetown and beaches in delaware, and louis and delaware, those areas still seeing potentially heavy rainfall, so there you see offshore, just north of ocean view, watching these showers, but they continue just to slide to the south and to the east. we'll keep the eye on for the rest of the evening are the storms seen off back to the west. this is another round of severe weather. they are, in fact, moving southeast, but a lot of models pick up on those storms and moving them through delaware and potentially south jersey later on tonight. still remaining south of philadelphia, so if you're in philadelphia and points north, you're going to be in the clear, but some models are, in fact,

bringing storms in later this slning. what we're looking at for south jersey and delaware, severe storms left the area, there's a watch until 9:00 p.m. not surprised if some of the counties started getting trimmed out to include less areas, less counties, but we are going to keep a close eye on that. earlier this afternoon, not too long ago, an hour ago, we told you about a tornado warning in cape may county. here's what we've seen now looking back at the radaradar. this is the rotation, the area where we expect there could have been a potential tornado. we don't have word it was definitely a tornado on the ground. we'll have that shortly, within today or tomorrow, but near indian trail road and middle area of cape may county. watching reports on that very closely, but that is what we saw earlier today. good news is all the severe weather left the area for now. by 5:30, we'll continue to see that clearing. by 630, some models develop

storm clouds. >> let's stay down the jersey shore right now. live look from the cape may camera. you see the waves are a little choppy out there, but calmer than an hour ago. changes conditions based on where yo live. >> that's why we have your first alert neighborhood weather. >> if you live anywhere in pennsylvania, you have not seen any of this so, yes, depends where you live, if you're in delaware or much of south jersey, you have seen pretty bad storms roll through. current radar, pennsylvania is fine at the moment, looking at new jersey and delaware, dealing with the rain, but the most severe storms have already moved offshore. we have some heavier rain in sussex county, south of seaford, a lot of lightning, but, really, sussex county seen big improvements as well as kept county and delaware, and big improvements because the strong to severe storms earlier have moved further south.
