quickly. we have to keep an eye out for any quick popup showers or thunderstorms. we're not in the clear, but areas at least in the short term in the clear from earlier this afternoon. we are looking around westchester and coatesville, heavy rain, downingville with heavy rain. this could slide to the philadelphia area over over the next hour. now in sussex county, delaware, light rain, where we have severe storms earlier as well as cape may county, but they moved away. what we're watching for the rest of tonight are all these thunderstorms back off to the west. some could be moving in later this evening, a lot of them already in washington and baltimore headed in the direction of delaware. we'll see if those end upholding together for later tonight. a lot of computer models are trying to bling those through. we have had damaged report today, tornado warning earlier in cape may county at 3:45, 4:00

p.m. this afternoon. what we've seen from that is quite a bit of wind damage in cape may county. we do have a house in the villa section of cape may county where windows were blown out and large branchs down around the house and wref 70 miles per hour gusts reported in cape may county. a lot of areas like we mentioned, power outages and damage as well. timing for tonight's potential storms and another roubd before the wroek is over straight ahead. >> a view now, live pictures right here in nbc 10 of the severe storm damage the aftermath of the storms, this is cape may county, look at that tree, it snapped in half and came down on power lines there, part of the problem we talked about, outages here. count on us to track the storms, stay with us on the air and online as always with the nbc 10 app. skyforce 10 comets to show us images of damages. >> let's go live now with the

latest in cape may county. >> reporter: we just pulled up to the home depot parking lot. i want you to look behind me. there are cars that are underneath needs trees here. you can tell the sheer strength of this storm here this afternoon by the enormity of the trees, and they snapped in half. we have the crews out here that are working on those and take a look here, also the home depot, obviously, evacuated here this afternoon. atlantic city, crews working out front and the fire department, and we're going to speak live now to middletownship police, and spoke with the chief sergeant responding to dozens of calls. what's the worst of it? >> several trees down. lots of electric lines, and trees on houses. that's the worst of it. >> that's the limit this afternoon? >> purchase, yes. >> what was the situation at home depot?

>> apparently on the roof, a couple air-conditioning unites or heating units blew off and took lines with it. fire company called out for the safety of the people inside. >> reporter: were you out in the midst of this? what did it feel like? >> i was. after the beginning, it was down force. it was heavy winds and lots of trees everywhere. cars on the side of the road and under over passes. >> any injuries? >> not that i know right now. >> reporter: good news. silver lining in this. the sun is out this afternoon. we know you are busy. thank you for stopping with us here this afternoon today. guys, as you can see, crews with a lot of work to do, and across cape may county, thankfully, the sergeant says no one was injured here this afternoon, but, obviously, there has been damage to both homes and cars and other

properties across the county. live in middle township, nbc 10 news. thank you. back up in the air, skyforce10 with another tree that's been brought down by the high winds moving through the area again. this is in cape may county. that tree in someone's yard fallen on to somebody's fence there, just missed the home there, but as we've been saying, a lot of trees knocked over with another right there, that one on the roof of the house, and you see workers removing the branchs as they clear that out of there. again, we don't know of any injuries, but they cut that tree, trying to remove it from the person's beyond a reasonable doubt there. count on us as we said to track the aftermath of this severe weather of any kind on the apps, skyforce10 continuing to give us live pictures from the air. >>. >> we're going to defer to my lawyers, figure out the next steps. >> other big story, the

congressman fattah with little to say after leaving court after his conviction on federal corruption charges today. tound guilty on all counts against him like racketeering, fraud, and money laundering. live team coverage on the verdict. nbc 10 was in the courtroom when that verdict was read. >> we have community reaction. we begin with verdict. >> it was the same smile we came to see throughout the duration of the trial. when he left court, he said very little about the jury's verdict, possible prison sentence or future in washington. >> very tough day. we're going to confer with the lawyers, see what the next steps are. >> reporter: the congressman will be sentenced in october. some of the crimes convicted of carry a 10-30 year prison sentence, convicted of 2 2 crimes. prosecutors say troubles began

running for mayor of philadelphia, once considered the front runner, he was fourth in the primaries. witnesses told the jury about a disorganized campaign, one that ran out of money before that primary. the jury found him taking an illegal loan to salvage the campaign that didn't work. they laid out a picture of a candidate who failed to settle bills and put stake campaigns on the books to hide loans. he used codefendants to pay the loan back. bulk of the cash came from a nonprofit, $500,000 supposed to pay for the college education of needy students. instead, it went to set tle hise lisle debt. he used car sales to cover bribes and money for wage taxes and to buy a vacation home. the defense strategy here was to point out to the jury multiple times there was no paperwork or e-mail saying that he knew about that illegal campaign loan or

directed anyone to pay it back. the jury did not go for that defense. instead, quicking the congressman on 22 different counts, all of the charges on the indictment. reporting live outside federal court, this bc 10 news. >> the congressman issued a statement late this afternoon. >> he calls this an extremely difficult day, talking about his record while serving the second congressional district. he writes, quote, i continue to be proud of the record while today's outcome is not what we hoped, i respect our nation's jew decisi judicial system, end quote. many gathered outside the courthouse to say public officials are held to a high level of trust, and the congressman and codefendants breech breeched trust. >> they are to act with honesty and integrity and not to sell

the office for personal gain. >> u.s. attorney added they will be asking for jail time for fattah, but not determined how much yet. nbc 10 monique braxton has coverage and reaction from the people that the congressman served. >> what are they saying tonight, monique? >> reporter: yeah. we've been listening to callers for a few hours here, and urban talk radio station, and we've spoke with constituents of the congressman and reactions across the board. >> he was always, you know, helping the people, do things to help. i don't, you know, i never imagined him trying to steal any money. >> i think there's some truth to it. i don't trust politicians. >> that's what federal investigators portrayed, a long time congressman who was part of a racketeering conspiracy. the goal, according to the feds, was to further fattah's political and financial interest by misappropriating federal,

charitable, and campaign funds. most callers favor fattah. >> it's a sad day in philadelphia. my prayers with the congressman and his family. >> reporter: we canvassed communities to find constituents. have you always voted for him? >> i have. you know, because of this, i changed to republican. >> i think he's not been representing the people in his constituency for a long time. >> reporter: reactions seem divided along the border. here's how folks in west philadelphia near where the convicted congressman grew up feel. >> i think it's awful. i really hope that it didn't happen to him. i don't think he's guilty. >> reporter: when sentenced in october, he could spend decades in prison. >> it's really a shame when we elect officials to do a job for us. we put the trust in them, and you have to resort to this kind

of activity. >> reporter: back live here, callers are continuing to voice their feelings. we have to tell you that people we talked to in lower marion and west philadelphia, several shook heads or held hands up declining an on-camera comment. live now, monique braxton, nbc 10 news. >> a mixed eed reaction today, monique. >> the jury came back with a mixed verdict for the codefendan codefendants. shocked leaving the courthouse this afternoon. he was found guilty on all counts against him including bribery and bank fraud. the jury found philadelphia businessman robert brand guilty on all charges convicting him of con conspiracy to commit wire fraud. karen nicholas found guilty on some counts against her like wire fraud and falsification of

chester county and lancaster county, just developing very quickly. the rain got lighter in these sections neardowningtown in parts of chester county and westchester. we're watching it closely throughout the evening. now, the strong storms that were in parts of delaware and new jersey have moved offshore, and we're looking at southern delsz and sussex county and south bethany beach. all the thunderstorm activity moved off in the atlantic. same thing with cape may county, a lot of storms now moving offshore, so cape may county in the clear, al the way up to atlantic city, but later on this evening, we cannot rule out a few more thunderstorms trying to move through, and it's all because of the severe weather back off to the west. still in parts of washington, around maryland right now, and this is moving in the direction of delaware, so some of you would, in fact, move through late into tonight, mainly for delaware and new jersey. the damage reports in cape may county, we have the tornado earlier this afternoon, and cape

may county, and damage reports are mostly wind damage, so one section of cape may county, that's all the wind damage. we saw a tree fall on a house. this is whitesboro. a tree on a house. we have reports of windows blown out of houses. we're seeing a lot of wind damage still across the area, and there's potential for more, again, thunderstorms through tonight, not widespread though. future weather, it is trying to pick up on the storms around baltimore, possibly more in new jersey by 9:00 p.m., and at sok, lieb i just showed you in parts of maryland and washington move once again into delaware, maybe some more in parts of south jersey, and those move into parts of cape may county, and clearing as we go into tomorrow. for wednesday afternoon, we look nice and sunny, temperatures warm, 80s, but thursday, that's our next round of thunderstorms moving in thursday morning. we could see them starting through thursday afternoon, some of these storms could also be

severe. so the storm threat on thursday, the severe potential is going to be yellow shaded area. that's the risk area for thursday including a larger portion of the area than what we've seen today. more of pennsylvania, new jersey, and delaware, you can expect damaging winds, lightning, hail, and heavy rain. potentially on thursday, we could see another round of pretty widespread severe thunderstorms moving through. of course, watching that very closely. as we go through the next ten days here, tomorrow, sunny, hot day and dry. thursday, low 80s, that's the cooler day only because we expect widespread thunderstorms. friday into the weekend actually looks good. hee heating up, near 90 saturday and sunday, nice and dry. next week, a stretch of stormy weather tuesday through thursday with temperatures in the 80s. the rest of the neighborhood

skyforce10 shows damage from this afternoon's severe weather. this is over wildwood where a deck there, what's left of it, ripped off a house in today's high winds. speaking of wildwood, the mayor says there's damage else where, especially to the board walk in wildwood, a long night of cleanup for people there. >> a lot of areas in cape may had windows blown in, trees down, power lines snapped, so we're going to continue to watch for any continuing damage coverage and any damage reports coming in. here's a look at radar. more storms throughout washington and baltimore moving east. they are moving to delaware. we could see more later tonight. we'll update you at 11:00.
